18 Books read in 2024 - more than the 10 previous years combined! Quite proud, tbh.
Bret Easton Ellis led me to Dennis Cooper led me to Alison Rumfitt led me back to Clive Barker...
My mum introduced me to James Baldwin, a friend lent me Laura Palmer's diary.
Dennis Cooper's Frisk shook me to the core, and I love it for that!
The only book I didn't love was Mother Howl by Craig Clevenger. Too heavy on 'society is unfair'-aspects, without any balance or payoff. I am aware that bureaucracy ruins lives and ACAB - give me something more within 400 pages, please.
The only book I didn't finish was Toni Morrison's Beloved - not because I disliked it! I guess I'm not 'fluent in metaphor' enough to keep up with her style, yet. I'll give it another go in a year!
I want to live inside Bret Easton Ellis' The Shards! I am a sucker for his style, the glamorization of drugs, the 80s and nihilism - they're all broken addicts, but there's great music playing, so who cares! (Icehouse is a beautiful song - thanks for introducing me, Bret!)

name a movie you put on to cry to
i will put tv on if i want to cry, crying at something thats also going to take two hours to get through? i dont have that kind of time to be sad. all my answers to this are such copouts though but i will tell you the last film i properly cried my eyes out at was the iron claw.
favorite book to film adaptation?
i actually dont have one!! its been years since i read fiction books, and the few times that i have read a fiction book AND its been adapted into a film, i havent been able to bear watching it in case its disapointing lmao. dermaphoria by craig clevenger is my favourite book of all time and ive been psyching myself up to watch that film for like six years now. im terrified of it hahahahahahaa.
favorite movie snack? (if any)
i usually stick a movie on during dinner, so its less of a snack situation as it is like, a full meal. but if me and my best friend are planning a movie night, we always get pringles and bombay mix. and maybe a little bit of chocolate.

wow this is incredible so I'm also reposting the entire thing! @almost--hot i am very intrigued by your personal religion project
Last song I listened to: Paranoid Video - Total Control 7s EP - underrated aussie postpunk
Currently Watching: The Righteous G*mstones, Good Om*ns (I'm censoring these bc fandoms lol), probably gonna finally start watching Tw*n Peaks this summer...
Currently Reading: just finished Stella Maris by Cormac McCarthy, starting Mother Howl by Craig Clevenger on the recommendation of Lyd*a Lunch
Current Obsession: my own ocd tendencies, working in ableton on music tracks, TOTK, tv, feeling empty, everything cool that happens in Prtlnd
tagged by @maotism >>:3 !!!
Last song i listened to: Berg, Piano Sonata Op. 1 lmao. Dont tell anyone but I prefer some Berg to Schoenberg 🫣🫣🫣 even though Berg is more ~tonal~. Also might learn music theory to voice train and deconstruct my favorite songs with one stone.
Currently watching: "Made in Abyss". It's my favorite anime... decided to rewatch because I havent seen it in a long time and it's what got me back into anime after not finding anything interesting for 6 years or so. The concept is: there's a huge hole in the middle of this town and the town's entire religion, culture and economy is based on people who literally for the fuck of it decide they need to go to the bottom (which maybe only one person has gotten to). I'm offput by the loli/shota undertones going on and I really really wish they didnt have to stain the entire story with that buuuuuuuuuuuuuut; I think it's actually very telling about where the story comes from within the author's psyche.
Currently reading: Women, Race and Class; Angela Davis + The Factory by Hiroko Oyamada. The Davis is a very easy read and I feel like I've learned more history than I ever did in high school in the first 50 pages. The Factory is strangely hard to put down despite how banal the content has been so far.
Current obsession: Practicing the religion I came up with and also discovering it out in the world... The ideas are on my page already so I'm not going to wxplain but, I've been figuring out how to transform cooking from a dead practice in my life into something which transforms my karma essentially? This along with shitting, breathing, peeing, etc are things I eventually think can radically transform us if we are mindful of them. While the result isnt magic, I think of the subjective process as dyed-in-the-wool magic.
I'm also just coming down from a magical girl obsession LOL. Like... magical girls are existentialist heros I think??? Like, if existentialism had a feminist mythology the magical girl archetype would be ESSENTIAL. It's also really interesting how uniquely Buddhist concepts become central to magical girl story lines??? Like good and evil becoming complements which only tell the story of nirvana or something. Crazy shit.

i dont really inow anyone else on here yet lol
not expecting anything, i just dont know who else to put :p

book recs?
sleepover asks!
dermaphoria by craig clevenger is my all time favourite book. i have a tattoo of a firefly because of it. it absolutely ruined me emotionally, and i couldn't read another book after it for about a year because it just wrecked other stories for me. life changing read.
my favourite book series as a kid was the vampirate series, which i was still flicking through when i was about 20! the writing really holds up, i think. it's been a few years asdfggjjkl. but i really enjoyed the characters, and the story itself is actually very engaging. if you like YA fiction it's a pretty good shout.
seven daughters of eve is one of my favourite nonfiction books ever. it's about tracing the genetic lineage of modern humans to their earliest ancestors by linking the mitochondrial DNA of modern individuals to that of seven ancient female skeletons. it's very science heavy because its about genetics but it's actually quite accessible - im an archaeologist so i understand the very very basic principles of the study but my focus really is early modern material assemblages, so this is very far out of my wheelhouse, but i didn't struggle too much with the science! it was very well explained - if anyone wants a brief explanation of it im happy to try! there are a lot of issues with ancient DNA ethically, and historiographical problems with this kind of study which cannot be overlooked, and again i will go into if anyone is actually interested hahaha but i do still think it's a fascinating study. he also dedicated the last chapter to entirely fictional narratives about the last days of each of the women based on where their bodies were found. it's jarring at the end of such a science-y text but it's strangely quaint, if bizarre.

31: who's your favourite contemporary author?
Hmm. This is tough. I'm going to have to narrow it down to one particular area of contemporary fiction that I'm interested in; Mental Health and Disability. There isn't one author that stands out but there are a number of writers who have one or two books that I have loved. Those have included:
Craig Clevenger: The Contortionist's Handbook and Dermaphoria
Emma Healey: Elizabeth Is Missing and Whistle in the Dark (both are also mysteries!)
Nathan Filer: The Shock of the Fall
Mark Haddon: The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time (another mystery!)
Graeme Simsion: The Rosie Project series (also a romance ❤)
Jean-Dominique Bauby: The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
Joe Hammond: A Short History of Falling: Everything I Learned About Love Whilst Dying
Matt Haig: He has such an amazing empathy for the human condition. For anxiety see his Notes on a Nervous Planet
22, 31 of the reading asks?
Ooh good ones!
22: pro or anti e-readers? Why?
My ex bought me a kindle when I was studying for my masters as I was struggling to read journal articles on the screen and I didn't want to print them all out. I haven't used it since then, but I have the kindle app which I use for books that are useful to have on my phone or don't particularly need a paper copy of (such as my 2019 Almanac, the highway code when I was revising for my theory test, etc) which are usually non-fiction. If I really love it and want to share it with people then I'll buy a paper copy.
So I mostly read paper books. All the fiction books I read are paper; you just can't cosy up with a good story on a screen. There is nothing like going to a bookshop, perusing the shelves for a good long time before finally settling on your next adventure, before returning home to cuddle up with it on the sofa with a [insert hot drink of choice]. Plus books smell lovely. And they're much easier to share with people. And they're good conversation starters. And I love seeing them all on my shelves. And I remember reading them so much better when it's a real book; I have a better connection with it be cause it's more of a multi-sensory experience. And and and.
Thank you for your excellent asks @sternenblumen ❤📚

STUNNING: FBI Now Refuses to Provide Documents on Seth Rich’s Brother and a DOJ Attorney (Who Admitted Meeting with Mueller Gang on Seth Rich Case) Due to Privacy Concerns?
The FBI has been reevaluate and decline to provide records requested on DOJ Attorney who claimed publicly to have discussed that the Seth Rich case with all the Mueller gang and on Seth Rich’s Brother in a FOIA request.
This story started by WikiLeaks related to Hillary’s and the DNC Campaign Manager creepy John Podesta. The firm that affirmed this was Crowdstrike and also its President Shawn Henry confirmed the claims. In December 2016, Ms. Nakashima followed up her reporting using all the bizarre claim that the CIA had determined that Russia hacked the DNC because Russia wanted Trump to win the election. Nakashima also reported the Intel Community had determined that Russia sent the mails to WikiLeaks. This position was bolstered by the Mueller gang in their own attempts to have President Trump.
TRENDING: WOW! NBC Guest Doctor Who Was Suffering at Hospital at TV Interviews from Coronavirus — NEVER HAD CORONAVIRUS! (VIDEO)
The Trump — Russia sounded fraudulent from the beginning and even preposterous. On March 8, 2020 and earlier June 16, 2019, we presented arguments against the Mueller gang’s assertion that Russians hacked the DNC. Cyber specialist Yaacov Apelbaum posted an report with information proving that the DNC was not hacked by the Russians. 1 transcript was from Crowdstrike’s Shawn Henry who said under oath that Crowdstrike had no signs that Russia even”exfiltrated” the mails in the DNC. The whole’Russia stole the DNC mails and sent them to WikiLeaks’ story. Many people suspected that at 2016 a young guy working for the DNC by the name of Seth Rich, copied emails in the DNC and shared them using WikiLeaks. Mr. Rich was murdered in Washington D.C. at July 2016 also it was labeled a robbery, but his wallet, telephone and watch were discovered on his person once the police arrived in the scene. We reported oddities surrounding his passing. For years the Seth Rich story labeled a conspiracy and has been covered up. We reported actions and events inside the Deep State to covering up the Seth Rich story linked. We recently reported that Judicial Watch published documents obtained within an FOIA request. These mails revealed that Peter Strzok and Jonathan Moffa were copied in an email regarding a report from Daily Mail where ex-Brit Craig Murray maintained he obtained Clinton emails and traveled to Washington DC. (This is a link on this article that has been shared between the dirty cops.) The Mueller gang never doubted Julian Assange to ascertain who supplied the DNC mails which were the cause of this Russia collusion sham to him and never looked into the Seth Rich matter. In a post we detailed the many actions taken to determine if Seth Rich was the person who supplied WikiLeaks with emails. Recently, transcripts of a conversation between a confidential informant along with George Papadopoulos thought to function as Stefan Halper. These transcripts confirm that Papadopoulos was spied on and listed, which they discussed that the WikiLeaks mails and likely Seth Rich (his name is redacted). We know from our previous coverage that a Deep State Anti-Trump former Assistant US Attorney maintained that Seth Rich’s personal computer was examined by the FBI and that she met with an FBI Agent and prosecutor.  Her statements imply the meeting ought to have been listed but the FBI has been assert no records linked to Seth Rich! We received word that the FBI is declining to supply any records related to DOJ Attorney Sines a FOIA request due to an’invasion of personal privacy’.  Despite Sines publicly saying she discussed the Seth Rich instance with all the Mueller gang this is:
We reported in mid-February the way Attorney Ty Clevenger, that represents a customer who has been sued because of his remarks concerning Seth Rich, reported on the courts who despite numerous assurances from the FBI that they hadn’t any information connected to Seth Rich, mails linked to Seth Rich were identified and given to Judicial Watch. It looked like the FBI lay to Clevenger this time. (There is much, much more within our prior posts that refer to this issue. Please have a peek.) The DOJ responded to FOIA requests linked to Seth Rich’s brother.  Lots of individuals believe he could participate in the transport of documents from his brother.  The FBI responded by also saying that this was an invasion of privacy:
The May Shocker
In early May (as we reported in the time), Attorney Ty Clevenger wrote to Richard Grenell in the DNI and shared with the following:
Before elaborating on that, nonetheless, I should first note the degree to which the”deep state” has tried to pay up information regarding Mr. Rich. In an October 9, 2018 affidavit filed in a Freedom of Information Act litigation, FBI section chief David M. Hardy testified that (1) that the FBI did not investigate any issues pertaining to Mr. Rich, and (2) that the FBI was not able to locate any documents regarding Mr. Rich. Both claims were false.
According to Ty, the NSA, knows just who sent the documents. Does the FBI. It was subsequently suspected that the CIA had a more prominent part in the fabrication that Russians hacked the DNC and”fingerprints” were identified at the purported hacking. The lawyers are asking relief from the court because they believe in providing records in the DOJ and 21, the delay is indeed no records need to be produced prior to the 2020 election. After several years of coverage we know there is not any proof Russia hacked the DNC and delivered the hacked emails. Attorney Ty Clevenger maintains the DNI has been covering up the fact that they have communications between WikiLeaks and Seth Rich. The FBI also is not able to provide documents related to the case. It is becoming clear that nobody in government needs Clevenger and the American people to understand.
