rewatching degrassi because it’s one of my comfort shows and just thinking about how i do not think any storyline ever has had more of an impact on me than manny’s abortion storyline, like i think about this so frequently and it was done so well for the time and the realism of everyone around her trying to tell her what to do and dictate her decisions, even emma who DEFINITELY doesn’t deserve to have an opinion about it, is actually haunting

manny is 14 YEARS OLD when this storyline happens!! that is crazy!! the amount of pressure society is putting on this actual child to have and raise a baby??? it’s almost too real, even now (especially now?)

ALSO i absolutely love that spike is there for her through everything and never encourages her one way or the other, just listens and tells manny about her own experiences and expects nothing in return - mother of the year

ALSO ALSO this is actually one of the most awful things ashley ever does, exposing the fact that manny is pregnant to the entire school, but again, lowkey realistic because teenagers will talk, it just makes me so sad because the absolute last thing manny needed was that on top of everything

basically cassie steele (who was only like 15 at the time) SLAYED this storyline so hard, degrassi wrote the teen soap opera blueprint, and i love manny santos with my whole heart
