A Woman At War

My magnum opus. My most completed and well-researched fic, my pride and joy. I wrote this fic ten years ago (from 2014-2015) and it's still the most favorite I've ever written. I am currently on hiatus from rewriting it here, but plan on finishing it in the future. Also the truest slow burn I've ever written.

Original summary: Marie Docherty is one woman of a select few chosen to join the men of Easy Company in the front lines. She follows her friends into Europe as she learns the nature of camaraderie and of the heartbreak of war.

Rewritten summary: Marie Docherty chose to enter the paratroopers as one of the first females to join the fight. That was her choice. What she didn't choose was to fall in love with a fellow soldier, or grow attached enough to endure bloodshed and heartbreak like no other. Join Marie (again) through the Eastern front of WWII as she cares for the men of Easy Company.

Beyond the Deep

My first delve into writing Lovecraftian horror/cosmic horror. There's a lot of pain, misery, and psychological horror in this fic (more that I'm planning) and honestly it's quite challenging to write, hence why updates are slow. As a writer though I think it's good exercise to dabble in different genres, especially other genres we're interested in.But overall I'm enjoying writing it and have a lot planned for it on how twisted and otherworldly the secrets of the universe are hiding. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I'm mostly writing this one for myself.

Summary: As the fight against the Reapers races toward a conclusion, Adrienne Shepard receives evidence that her missing father is alive. As Shepard searches for answers, she begins to uncover secrets that are sinister, ancient, and beyond her comprehension. She soon learns that the Reapers could only be the beginning of their galaxy's extermination. 

Run, Girl, Run

Fandom: Hemlock Grove | Relationship: Roman Godfrey x OC | Rating: T | Words: 8,881 | incomplete

Fun little fic I started while watching the Netflix show, but never got to finish it and probably never will since it was taken off Netflix. Although this fic is incomplete, I adore it because of the strong narrative voice I gave the character, personality, and how well she blends into the story surrounding Hemlock Grove. The best compliment I ever received from this fic is one of the readers thought I was an actual double-amputee with how I described the pain and absence of losing a limb (or two in this case), but also the day to day life living without it. Hoping to be able to finish it one day, but not sure when.

Summary: I was forced to move to the small town of Hemlock Grove after a terrible accident left me permanently disabled. This town was supposed to be a new start for me, instead I found myself caught in a place full of darkness, deceit, and mystery. At the center of everything, the Godfreys always seem to be involved. This isn't the change I had in mind.

Crossing Paths

My other most completed fic, and the first fic that I have multiple other fics for. Although the series isn't complete, I'm enjoying expanding on the universe. Originally meant to be an x reader story, but changed as I started to develop one of my favorite OCs. This story brings back good memories with a friend who helped give me ideas for the story that I lost touch with, hope she's doing well.

Original summary: It was supposed to be a simple heist: attend the fancy gala at the Rossi Estate, grab the St. Dismas Cross by either outbidding the guests or stealing (or collecting as I like to put it), and slip out before I was noticed. Little did I know I wasn't the only one who had my eyes on the cross that night…

@fairyhaos i want to sit down with yena and have a very serious discussion about all of joshua's looks. but like it has to be in person. we'd rate them all from debut until now while listening to svt songs and make a rly rly fancy powerpoint presentation about them all in order from least to best with reasoning. it would be so detailed and aesthetic bcuz we're like that <333

|☆| today i was playing Crossing Timelines on Roblox roleplaying as my oc Nikki (which i might add to my au), and was randomly asked out by a Cross roleplayer. i remember this part vividly -

"do i...give her my cookies??" -Cross

"ABSOLUTELY NOT." -Fresh

"HELL NO." -Epic

|☆| and when i tell you I FREAKED when this happened(hes one of my favorite characters).....he needed help talking to girls from Fresh and Epic. it was honestly so funny to watch, but at the same time i was giggling and kicking my feet. GIRLLLLLL I WAS BLUSHING, cross was so shy oh my god

Winter is Coming

The first snow has dusted the nearby peaks with news that a little further east there is snow and slush along the North Cascades Highway. The road will close soon as the expected winter snows arrive and won't reopen until sometime in the spring.

I am reminded of Shawn Forry and Justin Lichter's story "Cold Going" found in 'Crossing Paths A Pacific Crest Trailside Reader". The story describes a southbound (SOBO) PCT journey from Canada to Mexico in 2014-15. Their story is a powerful one. It speaks of stamina, determination, and excellent backcountry skills.

Wherever you live, the call of the trail may be heard even now as fall is falling and winter is soon approaching. I enjoy the white quiet of the woods near my house when we get an occasional lowland snowstorm. I also like to take my skis and swoosh around a little in the nearby Cascades. Venturing into the mountains is usually something I do on the short term. I go out for a day or part of one. To be honest, my feet and hands don't much like the cold for extended periods. I have learned that getting caught in frosty and snowy conditions even in non-official winter times on the PCT. When my body talks, I try to listen.

If you do answer the call and venture out for a cold weather excursion here are some things to keep in mind:

Tell someone where you are going and when you expect to be back.

Check the weather and trail conditions before heading out. If you are going into National/State forests or National/State Parks the respective ranger station will have critical information in many cases.

Bring a map and/or some form of navigation...think the Ten Essentials.

Bring extra water and food (see above).

Wear appropriate footwear clothing, such as rain gear. Bring extra layers.

Stay on marked official trails.

Plan carefully for winter weather. Conditions can change quickly and the sun sets early.

If for some reason you get lost, the U.S. Forest Service recommends the following:

Keep calm. Trust your map and compass. Shelter and warmth are more important than food. Backtrack if possible. If traveling with others, stay together, if possible. If not, send at least two people for help (depending on the size of your group.)

To find your position, climb to a place where you can get a better idea of where you are. When you reach a road , trail or telephone line, follow it. As a last resort, follow a stream downhill.

Before darkness falls select a sheltered spot and plan to stay there all night.

Don't abandon skis. Build a fire and shelter. Stay warm by getting out of the wind; insulate yourself with a parka and other clothing (use an insulated, branches or skis between you and the snow).

If you are injured and alone, keep calm. Stay where you are, clear an area down to mineral soil and build a signal fire. Green boughs will create heavy smoke.

Three signals of any kind, either audible or visible, is the universal SOS call. This is where a whistle flashlight/headlamp, or mirror can come in handy.

Going out in the winter is a serious endeavor. Informing other and going prepared are essential keys for having a successful experience. There are other winter stories to be found in "Crossing Paths" that put the above tips into some kind of context. We have also posted stories here that reflect on cold weather and snowy travel that are easily accessed. Whether or not you leave the cozy confines of home or brave the weather consider your skills and equipment. Finally, please don't rely on your cell phone. What works well at home may not work at all in the backcountry.

Poetry Corner

It's the ursine mating season. And we find the Hair Bear Bunch and Emmy Lou and Jenny Lee, both travelling separately, know, in close proximity to some serious hot springs which can get to be rather relaxing.

And, as it emerges, almost mystical; it seems some Native American peoples past found these same springs rather sacred by virtue of their comforting powers for the sake of assorted ailments and disorders, as well as sacred ritual preparatory.

But when ursine paths crossed like here, you can imagine how the powers of hot springs and the waters thus inherent can work wonders medicinal and sensual. Especially with the mating season bringing much in the way of physical and psychological challenge. Don't it just feel relaxing when you're an anthro bear just preparing for the sacristy of ursine mating and the ordeals such can bring about, soaking in hot-spring waters and cooling off afterwards in a nearby stream for the sake of benefits bound to be fulfilling?
