is there a kyman (or any other kyle ship) fic that you feel has accurately characterized kyle? lately im struggling so much to find fics where kyle isn't completely ooc be it kyman or style TT

I don’t read ky//man because it just about never feels like an accurate portrayal to me, and the ship makes me intensely uncomfortable for a whole list of personal reasons. More power to you if it’s your thing but I just don’t find that pairing very compatible on a fundamental level, even as an enemies to lovers fan. I guess it just depends on how you see Kyle or the cartman + Kyle dynamic though, and where your comfort levels lie.

One of my fav Kyle characterizations I’ve always shouted out was I Don’t Want Antibody But You by @lozislaw and I cannot recommend good fanfics with a Kyle focus without mentioning @fayoftheforest my beloved/p. but I don’t honestly read a lot of fanfiction nowadays so I’m not a fantastic reference for that sort of thing. I’m trying to get back into the habit but it’s hard with college + the multiple projects I’m working on (comic + animation MAP 🫠) to find the time to even read my friends’ work, let alone the dozens being updated each day by various authors!! One day I’ll get back in the fanfic sphere. Probably. Maybe. Unlikely but… I’m hoping.

If you’re into comics, the Bitchless AU on Twitter is pretty great imo, as is much of what you find on Insta nowadays. Tereredemanaos’ work is gorgeous (they’re more Stan focused but still), and like. Anything by Buggself is also pretty fun. Survivors and Saviors is another good insta comic, and I’ve enjoyed Euphoralide quite a bit since it’s first rendition- It’s now being redone with improvement on art and writing (which is not to say it was ever bad in the first place). 0harpies has a fun werewolf comic in its early stages that seems to be centering Kyle as the focus, and lastly, I can’t not mention the amazing short Style comic by @meteooru that’s been crossposted onto Tumblr as well. Chef’s Kiss of Style comics.

Insta is kinda a treasure trove for South Park content but if you’re looking for long, in depth character studies that are absolutely going to be completed you may be a bit more out of luck, as all of these are in progress, mostly focus on a wider plot over intensive character relationship dynamics, and lastly, there’s yet to be many SP comics that fell into the completed category unless they were intended to be fairly short from the start. Give these comics a try though, if you’re willing to take the risk on them. The art is beautiful and I like all of their various takes on the characters.

mika: heavy instagram user - posts a lot, just random pictures of her life, selfies, friends, whatever. heavy tumblr user - memes, random rambly rants about whatever, songs she likes, a bunch of pictures of her tits, way too horny on main. probably got suspended a bunch of times because too much tiddy lmao. gets into random fights with people with bad opinions. loves getting anon hate to make fun of.

gabriel: occasional reddit user. not hugely into social media in general, but likes being smarter than anyone else, especially on r/legaladvice. r/amitheasshole is his version of trash tv as a random distraction.

kat: does not care for social media but somehow got accidentally tiktok famous with some random medical misinformation rant because she just couldn't take all the bullshit anymore, and now occasionally throws out a new video. still undecided on how she feels about being called mommy by a bunch of 20yo lesbians. occasional instagram user to stay in touch with old friends and family and such, but doesn't really post much.

july: moderate instagram user, just really likes photography. mostly pretty shit she sees, actually well-shot. barely any selfies. heavy tumblr user - mainly rbs a bunch of random shit, not much oc except some of her photography crossposted from insta. lots of movie gifs. random rb sprees of whatever her favorite movie is right that day. fandom stuff. the occasional autism meme with her having a crisis in the tags like "wait doesn't everybody do this?? that's an autism thing?? are you sure?? this probably means nothing 😬". daria: has had the same anonymous wordpress blog for like 10 years, exclusively for book reviews, with like 3 regular loyal readers she has long discussions with in the comments. absolutely no social media, but checks out july's instagram regularly.

aaron: tumblr - lots of music, cute animals, funny shit. pops up every other week to rb a hundred posts in a row and then vanishes again. had a few funny popular text posts. follows tons of people. youtube & tiktok - posts music stuff, like the random weird instruments he acquired, and tutorials. bandcamp & last.fm - not exactly social media, but highly active commenting on random shit all the time

quinn: moderate instagram user - carefully curated edgy aesthetics with lots of black white photography, dead animals, cemetery shit. she's such a cliche goth lmao has a secret hard kinks tumblr, and so many people blocked.

eleonor: tumblr - posts the most incomprehensible surrealistic meta memes that nobody else gets. bugs, tech stuff. long text posts with a bunch of cited sources about their current rabbit hole. follows a lot of tags, but only a handful of people. rarely tags their own posts tho. is in some weird niche discords and subreddits where anyone else would be like "what is this FOR"

ruby: heavy instagram & facebook user, tons of family pictures, selfies, and inspirational quotes. puts way too much energy into educating her older relatives about the random bullshit they keep posting.

fia: usually randomly deletes her twitter account, comes back after a while, ramps up her activity, until it annoys her and gets too much and she deletes again, cycle repeats. gets into arguments with random idiots and afterwards is like "why didn't i just block them". maybe one day she'll learn. doomscrolls.

helena: found her niche on history/philosophy twitter and writes loooong long threads and then vanishes again for weeks. does not care for social media otherwise. used to be an active wikipedia editor but fell out of that eventually.

ok whatever. this isn't like a "callout" or whatever but i've thought really hard about this and given Prince has all but said my name i feel like i'm justified in at least letting my followers know about their shitty behavior

about a year ago i was mutuals with @/fukit-im-bucket we weren't friends but we were friendly, ya know? then one day outta nowhere he blocked me and in the main fandom tags vagueposted about how he was soooo sad to learn a long time mutual was a secret proshipper and he felt soooo gross for ever having interacted with that disgusting person. the person who informed me of the post let me know she didn't publicly use my name but was DMing people who asked so like. i was kinda bitter about being maintag vagued and called a disgusting person, but i was thankful she didn't name me directly at least so i move on with my life

this May i start planning a rerun of Dimple Week. i announce it on the blog, i post prompts, and a few days after i posted prompts it occurred to me i could crosspost to my twt and bsky. since those sites run off hashtags i could just drop prompts and a tag for people to use and wouldn't have to run a dedicated account. i go on twt and start looking up the commonly used mp100/Dimple tags and because twitter's block function Doesn't Fucking Work i see a post from Prince announcing dates and prompts for an alt Dimple week created specifically because of me

i don't own the concept of "running a character themed prompt event" but this felt really shitty. organizing an identical event because my cooties are so bad people can't even stand that i like the same character as them. after this i did seriously consider not running Dimple Week because if my involvement was making people so uncomfortable what's even the point. i hate the idea of upsetting people just trying to have fun, but i decided that since Prince was running theirs in twt and insta and on different dates i'd just keep mine as is to Tumblr

and then, on the first day of Dimple week, i was sent this

there was literally no reason for this. no one was asking Prince why he wasn't doing Dimple week, he dropped this on the first day instead of any point before or after, and he's suddenly offering to host on on Tumblr as well as twt and insta. we all know how nebulous the term "proshipper" can be so not offering literally any details lets people fill in the blanks for what possible evil thing i could've done. i do not have a secret alt where i "endorse and create proship content" i'm very open about my ships and the sort of stuff i like to make (and in fact there are a handful of posts i've made that Prince would've had to have been actively ignoring my tags/artistic intent to not realize were ship posts) i don't force my ships onto anyone or try to secretly sneak them in to works/convos/events

Prince could've at any point DMed me to clear things up but instead she's vagued about me, made it sound like i'm a creep and a liar, and tried to ostracize me from the fandom for almost a year. i have not interacted with Prince in any why shape or form since she blocked me, but i'm so tired of putting up with her spreading rumors about me. again this isn't a callout, i'm not trying to get Prince canceled or whatever but their behavior is just childish at this point. block as you will and move on with your lives from this whole "this could've been a DM" situation like i'm just trying to do

Twitter:

Bruce, Dick, Cass, Tim, Steph, and Jason all have twitter. The first four have verified accounts (like proper verified, not the shit Musky introduced). Jason's twitter is just something like litlover666

Tim has an extra anonymous account to post absolute shit in and pick fights with. Steph picks fights on main and makes fun of Bruce constantly. Jason posts mostly book reviews with the occasional photo of whatever he's eating right now and recommendation for some mom and pop restaurant in the worst parts of Gotham. He has a cult following

Bruce's account is entirely PR. He doesn't even have the password. Not because he can't be trusted with it but because he doesn't give a fuck. Every once in a while his social media intern asks him for some photo or he texts them about a charity he wants to promote and that's the extent of his involvement

Dick is sporadic with his use. He tweets happy birthdays to everyone including members of the batfam who aren't on Twitter (see Damian) and responds to random @ s a lot

Cass mostly uses it to crosspost videos of herself dancing from Instagram and retweets Steph's shitposting

Instagram:

Duke, Cass, and Steph all have Instagram. Only Cass is verified, because Duke is too new to the batfam. It irritates him more than he'll admit

Again, Cass's insta is mainly photos and videos of her dancing. She also posts a lot of photos with her family tho, especially in embarrassing situations nobody knew she'd managed to capture on camera

Steph uses it mainly to lurk but her friends only stories are a LOT of fun

Duke posts his poetry on there sometimes, but mostly it's a casual Instagram with pictures of friends and family and selfies. He also posts pictures of Damian's pets every once in a while cause he thinks it's a shame Damian is too young to join the platform and post them himself (Damian is like 11 or 12 at most in my mind and Alfred actually enforces the no social media before you're 13 rule)

Tim deleted his finsta when he became Robin cause it was dedicated to Bat content and that was Embarrassing

Only Steph and Tim have tumblrs. Jason would thrive on here, but he doesn't have time to figure out any other platform beside the one he's on. Neither Steph nor Tim told each other outright they have tumblrs, but they found each other and became mutuals anyway. Tim doesn't use the platform so much anymore, he was way more into it when he was like 13 or 14, but Steph keeps up with ALL the memes. Both accounts are anonymous but Tim has a HUGE following for telling random stories about his life that sound entirely made up except he always provides photographic evidence or some other kind of proof

Tiktok

WE PR made Bruce start a TikTok and he insisted it be a Wayne family TikTok because, again, he Did Not Want To Deal With It. Tim's supposed to be in charge of it but Dick is addicted. He has his own account too but he only ever posts on the Wayne family TikTok account, mostly to brag about his siblings' accomplishments

Cass, again, has a dance-focused account. She once posted herself dancing with Jason and everyone freaked out over who this giant dude is until he was legally brought back to life. Nobody in the batfam knows how she managed to get him to agree to participate but he was actually really good

Dick's personal account is not as active as the Wayne family account but he posts gymnastics there sometimes

Neither Alfred nor Kate are on social media for very different reasons. Babs is on every platform as a lurker, but on Twitter she interacts with Dick and Cass sometimes. Damian isn't allowed yet but once he turns 13 he becomes an absolute TERROR on twitter

The JLA, Titans, and Young Justice teams all have team accounts of various diplomatic quality. Diana runs the first for the most part, basically every member of the Titans team gets their chances with it at some point for theirs, and Cassie and Tim have learned their lesson about letting anybody except the two of them tweet from the YJ account

Nightwing's account is excessively popular. A lot of people thirst follow him but also sometimes he eviscerates someone horrible and it's extremely funny

Spoiler's account is also popular for being just as feral as her civilian main

It's a recurring joke among the superhero community that everyone is very lucky that Robin doesn't have an account

Signal's account is low-key

Oracle's account is vital, she provides a lot of early warnings for civilians when there are Arkham breakouts and the like. A lot of people have notifications turned on for her account

TikTok:

Just like the Wayne's account, the batfam has an account. It's mostly funny bits from cowl cam but Red Robin has posted a series of videos triggering Red Hood into talking about his various interests (literature, proper gun maintenance, the actual programs that would benefit crime alley) all of which go extremely viral

mod and site update! I already updated my patreon, but I decided I will be crossposting to other sites besides tumblr and twitter! as soon as Im done moving into my new place Im gonna open an Insta just for the art crossposting cause I heard it got a lot better in terms of art scene from like the way when. 

As for the comic/dailies/etc Ive decided to give deviantart another go since a lot of moots seem to enjoy posting there again! I uuh, got locked out of my old account since its been a year or two and forgot my password so Ill open a new one.

and a question! I want to repost some of the strips on some comic dedicated sites. My top two choices are Webtoons and The Duck but I dont have too much experience on them. Chronicles from 4.012: Why you should play it.

Chronicles from 4012 is an otome game that takes place in a dystopian future in which the forces of good and evil take dominance. As an MC, you'll be haunted by a premonitory dream that'll lead you to encounter supernatural creatures while you develop your own story 😌💕.

I've been keeping track of this game for more than a year, and I can assure you it's one of the best plots I've come across within the otome community. I think that people from certain fandoms would really like this game, so yeah, I'm doing crossposting for a fair cause.

The first thing you should know is that this game is COMPLETELY FREE. For those of you who cannot afford to spend too much money on games, you could easily give it a try, but please consider supporting them on Patreon, since they're a small indie team and any help is much appreciated.

You can play it in two languages: ENGLISH and SPANISH. It personally made me very happy to find a game that was originally written in my mother tongue since the translations to Spanish, in general, do not have much quality.

As an MC, you are a human, but you have THREE PATHS to take.

Join the Satanist cult in which you'll meet a few demons and a guy who's okay with the fact that a demon possesses him from time to time.

Stay with the humans that fight for survival from the lowest point in the food chain.

Or follow the path of the sympathizers of the Church of St.Gabriel, accompanied by two angels and a weird clairvoyant gal whose bff is a goat.

One of the things I like most is that apart from the plot of the story, you have a MORALITY SYSTEM.

(Yeah, mine is pretty low lmao.) This means that regardless of the path you take, your choices matter to you and to the ones that surround you. Yeah, you can be a chaotic ass in the middle of a church or as sweet as a cupcake while you're surrounded by mean demons, isn't that great?

The CHARACTER BUILDING is AMAZING, each character is a completely different world, and you can romance them the way you want since you can choose your name and pronouns.

As many of you know, I have a jerk type 😔 and of course, my favourite character wouldn't be another one than Zihel, a short-tempered demon (yup, you can see him in his demon form) of wrath who has to pay for his crimes.

IV: Unless otherwise marked, all of my work is written from the perspective of a female reader. Moreover, unless otherwise noted, most of my work takes place in a nondescript US-American location. If this is not the case, or if there is something important about the reader you need know (i.e. reader is plus-sized, disabled, etc), I will be sure to leave it in the warnings or notes for the piece.

It bears mentioning that I myself am a fat, white woman. I try to keep my readers as inclusive as possible for this reason. I want others to be able to enjoy my work. This will most evidently manifest in smut scenes, where it a very unlikely you’ll ever read about an insert-character being tossed around like she’s a toy. I find that language radically exclusive, at least personally, though I know I’m not alone in feeling this way. It really pulls me out of a fic, depending on the context, so I avoid it in my own writing. This also means I avoid flowery discussion of underpinnings, extravagant clothing description, mentions of breast size, overuse of “you’re beautiful,” etc. Some of us read fics to escape reality, but when you’ve lived with internalized fatphobia all of your life, some realities are hard to escape from. I try to accommodate that for myself, and I hope that it can in turn accommodate you as well. See the essay linked at the top for more on this. 

V: Be sure to read all of the warnings and notes that come with each work. I aim to be thorough and I will sometimes reference something that happens in conversation between characters that can be triggering or frustrating for some (think language around a character’s own body, antiquated views on sexual desire and virginity, etc). Please note that just because a character does or says something doesn’t mean I agree with the character or view it as an acceptable behavior. ALWAYS READ THE WARNINGS BEFORE READING.

VI: Which, by the way, practice safe sex. Make sure you stay educated on current forms of birth control and for the love of god, use them. Make abundant use of condoms. Have conversations with your partner or partners about possible infections, and then of course communicate about the boundaries that everyone involved has. My fics are about people. They are meant to have a certain sort of reality to them, but they are NOT INTENDED to be manuals, blueprints, examples, or function as advice for how to behave around your sexual partners or how to engage in relationships with potential or extant romantic partners. Just because you read about it in a fic or in a book doesn’t mean that it’s a healthy or realistic depiction of what romantic relationship should look likes. Fanfics contain elements of the fantastic; this can be positive or negative. Please keep this in mind when engaging with them.

For historical fics, this is especially important to note. Condoms as we know them did not exist before the early to mid twentieth century, and even then, did not reach wide availability until later. Thus, condoms aren’t used or depicted within the sexual encounters in these relationships. My advice remains. Use contraception and have conversations. Don’t use fics as a model for your own relationships and make sure to maintain a healthy mindset with the medium. Protect yourself by having knowledge at hand. Your personal safety is more important than erotica written by a stranger online.

VII: This is not a safe space for solos, antis, mantis, sasaeng/fansite content, or anything of the like. Simple as that. That Twitter shit stops at the door. Sasaengs are stalker fans and most fansites are stalkers so congrats: that pretty picture taken with a super zoom lens on a dslr was taken by a person with no respect for boundaries or consent. These people are legitimately dangerous for the health and well-being of not only BTS and other k-pop groups, but fans as well: they are extremely rude to fans and often get physical with folks at concerts. They endanger others by crowding airport entrances just for a fucking picture of member getting off a plane. A lot of y’all haven’t spent enough time lurking on Twitter and it shows. These people are bad. I refuse to support them. Do not slide into my dms or asks with fansite pictures, nor any other dubiously acquired content (leaks, private schedule stuff, content that looks like it was taken from a tree, etc). Even if you don’t mean anything by it, I don’t think this content is good or appropriate. We should respect the privacy and safety of all artists and their fans. Cell phone content is a different matter, for the most part. Like if they’re on stage at a concert, great! It wasn’t taken for financial gain. Clout maybe, but good luck monetizing a pic of Namjoon on his hands and knees barking like a dog at PTD LA.

VIII: As for biases: most people have biases simply because nature has gifted us the ability to have preference and connection. If you take that shit further than intended, I’m fucking blocking you. This blood runs purple to the core and each member is beloved will be treated as such in this space.

A note on this in combination with the Twitter shit: This includes romantic shipping of the real people that constitute BTS. I read a lot mxm on AO3, but never in a way that posits the pairings depicted as reality. The members of BTS are their own people and they should be treated as such. I find it grossly inappropriate to ship real people; we don’t know anything about their personal lives! I think it’s foolhardy, if not verging on idiotic, to ship based on the interactions we’re shown in things like Run!BTS and Bangtan Bombs. Their friendship is special. Let’s not take things out of context and make assumptions about their personal lives to begin with, but especially with regards to possible romantic pairings. It is not fair to them to assume their sexuality or identity; they will share these details with us if and when they are ready. This is all to say: If I use a ship pairing name, I’m using it to refer to fic pairings or friendship pairings, and it is never intended to romantically ship them in reality.

IX: Lastly, the characters in my fiction may bear in some way the likenesses of real people, but are not intended in any way to speak to how these folks exist in reality. The real people are heavily inspiring for me; I make absolutely no claims to accuracy in their depiction nor do I claim to have any knowledge of their personal lives. I don’t know them. None of us know them. That’s okay and emphatically important to keep in mind while reading fan works. Remember that this is fiction and that it’s meant for entertainment. 

This is something I’m going to comment on because I’m seeing an uptick in this sort of fic, and I want it here on the off chance that someone comes to this post wondering if I've talked about it (though I doubt anyone reads this shit anyway ... I digress). I do not write nor do I read idol-verse or idol!au fics. For me, it toes a lot of lines with reality and such content very VERY frequently oversteps a lot of very clearly set boundaries for the members. I can count on one hand the number of idol fics I've read that didn’t feel like massive, unhinged, obsessive oversteps. They’re buried somewhere in my AO3 bookmarks if you’re curious. If you’re a mutual, I’m sorry, it’s just not something I'm comfortable with reading or interacting with at all. I’ve watched people get overzealous and petty about me not reading such content and it’s just not something I want to have any part of, and I'm not getting myself sucked into that shit now or ever again. I’m not here to speculate on their personal lives and/or invade their privacy. They’ll share what they want to share when they want to or when they think they can. I don’t need to know everything or fill in any blanks just to feel like I've got an up on other folks in the fandom. I don’t want that shit near my blog and if you’re a mutual I will merely tolerate seeing it on my feed. Do not expect me to read it. Do not ask me to read it. ://INITIATE_GREETING Alright so Tumblr. The Tumblr. That one. The one that bad people thought was the antichrist itself in 2015. In my and others' effort to have actual plan Bs in case of Twitter doing what we think Twitter is going to do we're coming here despite the memes of keeping us out.

I suppose that I should open by saying that I have a pet peeve for superhero and urban fantasy shows to such an extent that they are the bad guys in my self-insert lore.

Now that I have torpedoed my attempts to gain a following on this site I should say that I actually remember liking it here. Getting all the formatting stuff right is going to be a little adventure on my part but hey I did some coding stuff in Uni (I did not finish Uni). The only real reason I never made an account here is because, well, exactly the time I would have made an account happened to align with, you know, that time where a lot of the people I would have been following were banned for posting lewd stuff. I understand they have reigned that back and allow it if it's properly tagged- which it should be- but I'm gonna have to comb the fine print there before I push it.

I will confess that at this point my knowledge of the state of this site is vague to the extent that I'm mostly here to follow people who went here before other places, especially considering I seem to be the sole VTweeter that is not on Insta or Tiktok. In fact, as most of my output is art, I may end up frequenting art sites more often. In fact, I was met with decent traction on my backup acct immediately.

Yeah it's probs Newgrounds now even if I'm not quite doing numbers there yet. But I'm likely to crosspost everywhere when possible. This may end up partially replacing my current Wix blog if I can get it to display info in the encyclopedic format I want for the sake of loreposting.

There'll be a better intro later- this is me getting my bearings and asking for help with that from friends. Tumblr is my most likely outright replacement for Twitter once I learn due to it having a similar capacity for being able to scream into the void and have your friends say "lol" beneath it, even if at a glance Newgrounds is my more likely portfolio site and Wix is gonna be where a lot of long-form posts end up. Will twitter collapse? Well one of my friends, who is a mushroom, she is cool, thinks not- that the businesses that rely on Twitter will be waiting like vultures to pick it up if Elon steps down. This makes sense- the brands all find value in Twitter because it's popular. It's a feedback loop they exploit for outreach.

But Elon does not make sense.

Why did he launch a car into space? It was because it was an easy way to get haha funny internet points. Why did he buy Twitter? And why might he, I believe to be in the cards, destroy Twitter, out of spite, at his own loss?

It's not like I'm sitting here weeping, the follower grind I had to where I'm at aside. Like I'm at 282 last I checked, that's pretty nice, and I hope my regulars are checking my new sites. I don't think Twitter was some sacred grounds as a lot of strawmen are painted. It was just convenient and cool people are there. Were there. Half expecting it to be gone when I tab back over just out of sheer jinxing lol. I really should have done all this earlier. Got pretty complacent with the idea that the situation had stabilized. Alas, Society.

I am, as with all sites I am spreading my high-aspect-ratio membranous wings into, eager to check this out and meet new people. I just hope I don't have to start from zero.

"Twitter" Ramblings

I just did a big thread on twitter that I'm gonna cross post here because idk I feel like it has some good thoughts. Sorry if it sounds a bit weird here since it was a bit disjointed and cause its Twitter posts™

For Context: I, in my immense worrying, decided to go through my entire following list on twitter and try to see if they had a tumblr or art station to follow in case Twitter really does truly burn to the ground.

Yippie! ive hit the point of worrying that im now actually scrolling through every person i follow to see if they have a Tumblr or Art Station or w/e the fuck

I ended up finishing this last night... all 1,527 people i follow... absolutely deranged behavior... but now i have the peace of mind that i follow a decent chunk on another social media...

I wont lie everything thats been going on with [Twitter] because of HIM is legitimately deeply concerning to me... No other social media works like Twitter does for artists seeking employment... Like i know im not popular [on Twitter], but it widens the base to connect with others

and having said base immensely increases job prospects. Literally my friend recently got a job with the assistance of Twitter connections (and i couldnt be happier for them). Its a very real thing, and unfortunately to my knowledge, no other true social media has anything similar

Like sure you could make the case that its on Art Station or LinkedIn too but to me those are far too professional and more just "gallery sites". Same with deviant art and New Grounds those are also just gallery sites I have a gallery, its my portfolio website.

I think if things really do go to shit, I of course still wont delete my twitter... but any actual interaction with people will be greatly reduced and mostly move to tumblr, even though my following is way tinier [on Tumblr]... It'll mostly become "i just share art [on Twitter] and thats it"

I know people are making Lists and such to keep track of people but like... when a site is becoming actively hostile to you for not spending money on it??? i dont want to spend my time here...

again this isnt the "im leaving cya bye forever" post im still sticking around till everything truly burns to the ground... but i definitely needed to set up alternate places to share my work far sooner (other than instagram cause lord i hate insta)

If thoughts do end up getting shared [on Twitter] after everything (stuff like this) itll probably just be crossposted from tumblr since it has a button to post to twitter (idk how it works though lol)

I know following doesnt matter as much here on Tumblr (the site literally does not show your follower count to anyone but you)... but i genuinely hope i can get back to even my small twitter numbers... Like dont worry im not a massive clout chaser or anything...

but posting into a void to only receive interactions in the single digits really does fucking sting.

Like at least on Twitter or Insta i can post stuff and will average around like... 30-50 likes on a post... which of course isnt a lot, but its nice seeing my friends among them and the occasional new person and hoping that seeing my work at least made them smile to see it. anyways im just hoping anyone that followed me on twitter will find me here and that i can make some new friends with people here too.

Comparing posting art to Tumblr, Instagram and Twitter

I made a simple cross-post across 3 different image heavy social media sites that are commonly used among artists to determine for myself which site is better for sharing illustrative artwork. The answer will surprise you!  

None of them! But really, that’s on me.

First, posting on Tumblr. I posted on a weekday, a Monday, after midnight my time but within viewing hours for the Pacific coast of America, which is the continent where the majority of my viewers live. I just assume everyone is staying up late due to depression and unemployment, etc. I tagged it with the generic art survey tags I use every year for this art in review post, plus another suggested tag that came up. 6 days later, I have no likes, no reblogs. 

Look at the post I made on instagram. I posted also on Monday, this time earlier, at 7 pm my time. Tagged with the two commonly used tags for this art in review, #yearinreview #2020artsummary. I have 2 likes from my friends, no comments, and the insta story posted a little afterward had between 5 to 10 unique users viewing it, I don’t quite remember.

This same post, posted Monday at midnight my time, tagged with only 1 tag that I saw other artists on my feed had been using. The retweet and quote tweet are both from me, the two likes are from a follower (not a real life friend) and an artist I don’t know. The stats show 20 engagements and 183 views, of which 50 are probably me on my other accounts lol.

As you can see, Tumblr is surprisingly the worst site for me even with fairly chronological posting and more robust search features, and despite me having the same account since 2014(?) with a significantly larger following of 256. Due to the suppressed hash tags and changing algorithms, Instagram mostly gets pity likes from my friends, I still only have a following of 97 since I restarted my account in 2016. My twitter account also restarted in 2016 and has 76 followers, and the most consistent activity comes from me crossposting to my personal account lol, although I will get a lot more views if a much bigger account retweets my post or if there is a resurgent interest in the few rarepair or side character hashtags I post to.

Let’s take an example of the latter...

The post on the left side was from twitter, quickly retweeted by both my partner and the mini-bang account who of course have more than 76 followers each. I got 33 retweets and 106 likes since December 2019, which I think makes it my most successful art post to date.  The post on the right side was from Tumblr, posted at around the same time, got 32 interactions. I get a few notes trickling in throughout the year on both Twitter and Tumblr because this is not a popular character in English speaking fandoms, so there isn’t much fanart and my post shows up soon enough in the searches. But safe to say, even though Tumblr has a functioning search engine and almost no algorithms, the site is much deader to the detriment of me, who doesn’t post or interact that much.  Note, I did not post this art to Instagram except in the 2019 year in review which got 5 likes. Lol.

Anyway, I hope that was enlightening to you. I don’t intend to game the algorithms or jump on the bandwagon or try to be popular, I only post when I want, what I want, I’m not putting on the monkey suit and dancing for an old white man.  But I think it’s good to know where to pour your precious resources into and just forget about the rest. We, the artist, cannot win unless we can subdue this web 2.0 and centralized capitalism.

Anyway, those were just some thoughts I’ve had that were pretty much a culmination of the stuff I’ve seen both from me glancing at fan Twitter (90% of them being Insta or Tumblr posts crossposted from there) and fandom bs in general.
