novella: do you prefer to write short stories, one-shots, or entire novels?

It seems I have two writing modes: either it's something very short, more flash fiction than short stories even, or it's a big, big novel with enough plot threads to probably fill a trilogy. 🙄 

dickinson: what insecurities do you have about your own writing? what do you think you should improve on?

Prose, definitely. Also, pacing. I think that I can come up with a pretty solid plot, but then I struggle with putting it on “paper” in a way that makes sense. I often find that first there are too many things happening at once, and then by contrast it seems like nothing happens for a while. I’m hoping to fix this once I finish the first draft.

mifflin: what do you feel is your strong suit in writing?

Character arcs, subtly changing/evolving relationships and emotionally charged moments. Those are the things I like working on the most, and I think I do a decent job with them.

I am so glad to hear that! And I really enjoyed all the posts so much! I loved your writing and the characterization!!! I’ve been interested in Pseudonyms ever since I first read about it but I am terrible with keeping up with WIPs on writeblr and it took some time to get to it (the masterlist of all the posts about it really helped). I loved what I saw from it so much!!!

Also, I really want to check out The Second Moon (and Daisy Chains, too!) but like I said, I am terrible with keeping up with WIPs. I hope I will soon find the time and motivation, though because both of those look super interesting from the next-to-nothing I know about them.

The angst and longing was so poignant. I've felt that before. Whoa.

Pseudonyms: Frances and Kutcher 

I’m not turned on to love until it’s cheap – Bulletproof, La Roux (lyric edit) 

“Frances never pretended like it was love.” 

But I think it could’ve been. If her and Kutcher had met in college, or at a little cafe, or on a blind date. If Frances hadn’t been pretending to be someone named Elizabeth, and if Kutcher hadn’t been pretending to be someone who didn’t care about things. If they had taken a risk and actually gotten together, instead of just pretending there was nothing there. If they had some sort of future to hope for. 

And I think that last one was really the killer for Kutcher. She couldn’t handle the fact that there wasn’t an end in sight with that whole adventure. She pretended like she wasn’t, but I think she was the type that wanted to get married and have a family and everything. And Frances couldn’t promise that. For Kutcher, the cost of staying with Frances – and me, but let’s face it, mostly Frances – was too high. So she left. 

Me, though, I had some time to kill. Maybe not all the time in the world, but for Frances… I could wait another year or two.
