Fic Rec Friday Intro and FAQ

I can’t do multiple posts with elaborate reviews/commentary today. I just wanted to say that over the last few months, while I was grappling with this overwhelmingly depressive sense of doom, profound sadness, hopelessness, and apathy, reading fanfiction was one of the most effective types of escapism I engaged in. 

So, here are the fics that I have been reading, keeping track of, and loving:

Summary: “Namor's life changes in all the right ways the day his student's aunt picks him up from school.”

What I Like About It: It may seem lame af to describe something as “tasteful” and mean it as a compliment, not a slight. I mean, this is a Suga Mama Shuri and a Baby Boy Namor (whom I call Ch’ah in my head) but not in the way you think. It’s a rom-com! It’s sexy, it’s funny, it’s adorable. And these two kinky assholes are in love! Also, he’s a kindergarden teacher; a good one. The way he is written with these kids just makes my ovaries quiver.

2. Filthy Mouth

Fandom: Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

Pairing: Nashuri

Summary: Single father Namor goes on his first blind date and gets his world rocked.

What I Like About It: Almost the same as above, but in reverse! Though more of a straightforward relationship dynamic, not a kept man/woman scenario at all. More of a freak in sheets, lady in the streets situation. But again, there is love and devotion, as there always is with this pairing (well, when writers stay away from the darker dynamics of the ship). This is absolutely amazing. Superbly written, well-paced, tonally balanced, funny, sexy, and somewhat dramatic but not anxiety-inducing. Like, literally perfect.

Summary: Shuri’s world unravels when she discovers her husband Namor’s infidelity, leading to a heart-wrenching divorce. Amidst the chaos, she finds solace in Loki, a charming entrepreneur with a complicated past of his own. As their unexpected romance flourishes, Shuri grapples with co-parenting challenges, the complexities of new love, and unresolved feelings.

What I Like About It: I mean, I didn’t think that a Love Triangle between Shuri, Loki, and Namor would be so intriguing. That it would be utterly confusing as to who you want to root for. That you would feel your heart beat for the plight of each character. There’s so much at stake, but especially the happiness of a little boy caught in the middle of the mess adults can make of their lives. It’s drama personified, and I live for each installment. Plus, Loki is written so well here, it’s hard not to root for him.

Summary: A year after her mother’s death, Shuri burns her mourning clothes on the beach in Haiti and wakes up not only back in Talokan, but also back in time. Given the chance to do things differently, can she prevent her mother’s death and convince Namor of a peaceful alliance?

What I Like About It: THIS fic is everything I want in a Nashuri. It is another “What If” scenario, mapped and tread carefully. We’ve all imagined what could have been if it had been different, as Namor lamented on the beach that day just after he speared the Black Panther, right before she almost killed him and forced him to yield to her. Go read this! It is so satisfying!

Poor Okoye. She doesn't seem to want to let herself believe that Attuma actually loves her and wants to be with her. I wonder if their poor therapist has picked up on the fact that she seems to pick fights with him whenever he challenges her assertion that he only wanted to use her for sex. I'm interested to see how they can break through the noise of their own inner saboteurs to hear each other. Perhaps therapy will help, although judging from this first session, it will definitely take a miracle!

Insight

A/N: Part 4 of the baby daddy chronicles. An insight into Attuma and Okoye's toxic ass relationship.

Other Baby Daddy Chronicles

Couple's therapy. Okoye's mother had suggested it first after walking in on one of their explosive arguments one day.

"If you're keeping that man around, you gotta learn how to stop being so petty with him." She had said, pinching her child's arm with a scowl. "I will take the children, and you two will go like adults and air your grievances."

That's how they ended up there. Okoye slouching into the couch deep on one end while Attuma got quite comfortable on the other end, every pillow possible wedged between them.

"So, What is the goal here?" The therapist, Namor, watched the couple take turns rolling their eyes and scoffing before Attuma took liberty to answer.

"I'm doing this for my kids." He sat up a little straighter at the thought of his girls while Okoye scoffed at his bullshit.

"We're doing this cause we're toxic."

Namor, pleasantly surprised by the maturity, smiled just a bit before jotting down some notes.

"Alright. Tell me how you met. Okoye?"

She could remember it like it happened just yesterday. There was a trail she used to walk almost everyday after work. She'd take 30 minutes to decompress before she went home with all the pent up tension.

Attuma had taken to the same routine and had gotten sick of not knowing a thing about the beautiful stranger that walked the trail. One day, they just ended up talking and walking together, staying at the park for almost an hour more than they intended.

Okoye caught her smile before it got too wide as she told the wholesome story. She spared quick glances at Attuma fidgeting with his fingers as he remembered the first thing she did when he approached was punch him in mouth before exclaiming her apologies.

"When we first started it was just sex. Once I got pregnant, then he decided he wanted to date me." Okoye held a certain scorn in her voice as she remembered the tears that burnt her eyes when she realized that she was carrying his children.

"That's not true. I always wanted to be with you. You just wouldn't stop running."

"I don't run, Attuma. That shit was all you!" Subconsciously, her voice began to raise as they continued to contradict eachother.

"I asked you out plenty! You were just too scared to say yes for once!"

"Please! I was just a body to you!" Okoye sucked her teeth, waving his claims off.

"What the hell are you talking about?!" Attuma, now turned towards her began to yell to the point that Namor was afraid he might get a noise complaint about the two.

Okoye of course wouldn't let him slide. "Who the fuck are you yelling at?!"

"You! Cause you don't fucking listen!" He turned to Namor who had turned to jotting down various notes as he listened to the petty spout. "Do you see what I deal with?"

"Uh uh don't go to him for help now!" A pillow got tossed away as Okoye sprung from her seat to across over to Attuma's side of the couch. "So you got feelings for those other bitches you fucking all the time too?!"

"Here we go."

"Nah since you had feelings for me right? You fall in love with every hoe you stick your dick in?!" She continued to invade his space, kicking at his leg lightly until she got a reaction out of him.

Attuma rolled his eyes as he leaned forward to shout in her face.

"How many times I gotta tell you?! Huh? I ain't fucking nobody else!"

"Liar!" Another pillow thrown towards him now. "Fuck you!" Okoye pushed at his shoulder until he rose from his seat and caught her wrists.

"Like you so innocent..Who was that I caught all laid up on you when I went to pick the kids up last week huh?! I'll fuck up whoever you got around my kids! I don't give a shit!"

"That shit is childish! You're childish Attuma!" Okoye tried failed to break from his grip as she continued to yell profanities into his face. "Get the fuck off of me! Grimy ass hands prolly touched every bitch in town!"

She twisted and turned until she got a hand free, only to reel it back and send him a searing slap to his cheek in her rage.

The room enveloped in silence as Namor sat, too used to situations like this to really react. Okoye, feeling a ping of guilt as Attuma's cheek turned a dark shade of red due to the impact but also much to prideful and stubborn to apologize.

Attuma, face burning from the slap, only shook his head as he watched the pity tears fall from her eyes.

"Tell the girls I'll be around to get them on Saturday." He muttered, grabbing his jacket and leaving the room, making sure to slam the door on his way out.

It only took a beat of silence before Okoye slunk back down on the couch, her tears running down her face as she realized what she had done.

"I didn't mean to hit him!" She cried. "I-I just got so pissed! I couldn't think!"

Namor supplied her a box of tissues. "Well...at least now I have some idea of what I'm working with."

Hi! It’s been awhile! The last couple of months have been … interesting, but mostly good. I took a cruise for my 40th birthday. Had a great time. I went to a convention in Houston TX to meet Tenoch Huerta. Really enjoyed myself. I got back home and got some kind of jet lag + mild cold + insomnia due to stress, and so I just took it easy. I also decided, instead of writing fanfiction, I am going to just work on finishing my screenplay. I started a journal to track my writing process and progress here:

I was also interviewed by one of my good friends for her podcast, which I posted about here. Check it out if you’re interested in getting to know me better. With that being said, I also did a lot of reading. Not as much as I wanted to, but a lot. All of today’s rec’s are of the BPWF variety. Summary:  … just know that Aneka, Namor, Attuma, and Oni have little get togethers where they gush over their wives.

Why I Love It: This is the kind of fun stuff that serves as a cooling palette cleanser when you want a little light reading that involves your favorite characters just enjoying themselves. There are shenanigans, but it maintains its lightheartedness and sense of humor. The writer is having fun with this, I can tell, because I am having fun reading it. Nothing is more fun than having these characters interact with one another in a spousal support group, because they are utterly addicted to the loves of their lives!

This is an offshoot of another series, The Sun and The Sky, which has been the writer’s starting point for these characters, especially the original character Oni. It began as an Attoye one shot, from what I can tell, and has expanded into an ensemble epic with two additional multi-chapter installments. I have not read this series yet, but I did read the “I Worship my Wife Committee” shorts and it made me want to check out the original series. I plan to do just that before the next Fic Rec Friday!

I think it would be best to start with the series itself before reading this? That’s what I should have done. But, think of this as something to look forward to once you get to that point. This short series of chapters does stand on their own as separate, entertaining little vignettes, but start with the whole meal, then cap it off with these sweet little bites!

Why I Love It: When I came across this story, I read all six chapters in one go.

Superbly constructed, it moves. If you are unfamiliar with the myth it borrows from, as I was, the tale it weaves is so intriguing, trying to figure out what will happen next is so much a apart of the fun of reading it. Things are not as they seem. You begin this story feeling one way, and end it having changed your mind twice over.

It’s fun, sexy, mysterious, and angsty. It’s a quick read, but once you reach the end, you really won’t want it to be over. The author has made this the first installment of a series of works (Give me Nashuri, any Nashuri, and I will show you how the root of Nashuri is Greek) and I REALLY hope the other installments come sooner rather than later!

AH! Okoye hasa gift for Attuma! They are so cute!

"He knew that she had no hesitation about others seeing them together. But still, he could feel the tension in her body when others looked to them, how she relaxed once they merely received nods or teasing jibes. Usually the last was from Aneka before General Ayo sushed her with a fond look and gave them a smile and a nod.

Okoye expected to have to fight for him, defend him. She seemed almost perplexed that he didn't. Attuma knew his difficulties with atanzahab had the xok bah'te looking at Okoye speculatively, wondering how she had managed to capture his attention.

They could wonder all they liked, he was the one receiving her patan."

Why I Love It: This is yet another masterful work from one of my favorite writers. This story actually came at the perfect time, although I don't know if it was planned that way.

Letitia Wright just released a film called Surrounded, wherein she portrays a cowboy-type - actually an ex-Buffalo Soldier turned bounty hunter of sorts. But she’s a gunslinger, dressed up like a man for the time, and a general badass. The movie is awesome, highly recommended!

But, it ties in here because the gist of this story is that our Shuri has to disguise herself as a young male horsehand in order to get close to Namor, who is himself disguised as a rancher, in order to figure out the mystery of the hidden, secret nation of Talokan and their source of vibranium.

Picture something like this. Shuri in disguise, Namor falling in love, bed sharing, action, humor and angst all rolled into one extremely well written package. This is a slow burn, but it doesn’t burn too slow. Shuri is clever, proud, and good. Namor is haughty, but with a heart of gold, and a fiery protective streak that extends to Shuri the minute she shows her loyalty to him in disguise as the young boy he takes under his winged feet.

I just love this story, please give it a read!

Summary: Shuri, a brilliant and ambitious young scientist, dedicates herself to her work, sacrificing the usual experiences of her peers. She accidentally overhears a conversation that devastates her, leaving her confidence shattered and her heart broken. Her next door neighbor, Namor, has no problem showing Shuri everything she’s missed out on. What could possibly go wrong?

Why I Love It: Man! This is the second work from this author that I have read. What lead me to them was their “Adventures in Co-Parenting” series. Their take on Shuri and Namor as domestic regulars just trying to navigate raising their adorable daughter in the wake of their divorce is sweet and handled with care. I will say – it does have a Romonda as the villain trope in there, but the focus is mainly on Shuri and Namor finding their way to falling in love again as parents who want the best for their daughter.

The “Swim Lessons” verse is completely different! It’s young scientist Shuri meets cocky playboy Olympic swimmer Namor and it is so good! It’s like one of those rom coms you see where the uptight young woman finds her arrogant next door neighbor to be rude and annoying, but quickly falls for his charms as he tries to get her to loosen up a little. And the best way for Namor to do that with Shuri is to give her the pleasure she’s been missing out on! 

It’s got cameos from Riri Wiliams and MJ (among others), which I will leave as a surprise! And the characters are so well written, you just go with it. You’re in this world, you believe this set-up, and you are rooting for Shuri to get the guy, even though they both are trying to pretend like they aren’t falling for each other.

What I really appreciate about this story is that it is updated regularly every week.

Why I Love It: I love music. I think most creative people do, and most creative people who write use it to inspire, inform, shape their writing. They also use it to inspire them when they are blocked from expanding on some larger project that requires a bit more brain power to ideate around.

I stumbled upon these short songfics from cyb3rscoups when I was preparing to do another installment of fic rec Friday after so long of leaving it neglected. I had previously recommended their “Baby Daddy Chronicles” series, and I wanted to take a look at other works of theirs.

These music inspired blurbs were the perfect, quick reading for an Attoye fix, and easy to recommend. My favorite, which I had previously come across when it was originally posted, is “Cross my Mind” which features prose inspired by one of my favorites songs of the indelible Jill Scott’s. Jill is a poet, and this ode to Attoye through her is poetry.

Honestly, it’s nice to have something like this when you just need a few quick fixes of your faves on nights when you can’t sleep and you need to decompress. And the coolest thing? Listening to the tracks while you read. ::chefs kiss:

Namor is having an internal crisis, and it goes a little something like this:

"His head was pounding in anger for every reason: his inability to prevent the death of Lalalil, the surface powers killing for vibranium, the disappointment of not protecting his people again, the passiveness of Wakanda that led to this accident, and at the center of them all:

He knew she tried her best; Lalalil’s eventual death was not her mistake but an unfortunate accident. He understood every reason why she chose the nonviolent approach toward the surface world; she had her demons to wrestle with. Yet he was furious, not at the princess, but at how he was around the princess. He had never compromised his nation’s position and his people’s lives before he met her. Not a person lured him to show them Talokan, not a person fought and asked him to yield, and not a person made him make decisions that sacrificed Talokan. He could have pierced her through her heart at the dessert, refused to be sent to these missions like dogs, and rejected her proposal at the last tribal council. But she made him weak. She made him not put his people first, not himself first, but her first. He was even stupid enough to think he only nurtured their relationship for the grander goal. He had lost control of himself, and the fear of it caused this tornado of anger in him.

He could have flown to Bahrain and destroyed their base. He could even fly to Europe and make them pay. But, instead, he was back at the site in the Indian Ocean, slashing the wreckage to vent his rage like a sore loser.

Because he was no longer the all-powerful K’uk’ulkan who ruled the seas and commanded his soldiers however he wished. He was the God-King that yielded before the Black Panther, entranced by her strength, intelligence, and charm.

And he hated himself for that."

Summary: Rafa loved women. Rafa loved weed. Now he found a woman who loves weed just like he does. And he is immediately down bad.

A/N: Request: so I was thinking what if he met a woman who was strong and sassy and also into *cough cough* gardening *cough* and he just melts for her but she’s a hard to get maybe cos they’re rivals and she has a reputation to uphold being a strong independent woman ??? Maybe some smut with them giving into the attraction ??

Why I Love It: Uh, ya'll already know THAT I AM DOWNBAD FOR RAFA.

When I first took notice of Tenoch Huerta, I had no idea his most famous role before Namor was portraying an infamous drug dealer in a Narcos TV spin-off. I never watched that show (still haven’t) but I am so hyper fixated on Tenoch, I did watch all of his scenes on YouTube and salivated over every gif I came across on Tumblr. I lamented here in a post one day that I hadn’t been able to find any fic for the character, and was pointed to this gem.

Rafa the character is fascinating to me – as problematic as I know people may find the distinction fans want to make to separate their regard from the real criminal depicted by Tenoch in the series. It’s something I still question. I don’t care too much for film, TV or media around drugs and crime. My family loves Scarface, I despise it. People will recommend the Godfather, I have never, nor will I ever watch it (some in the industry insist I study it if I want to write movies, but I still refuse). No different with Narcos. So why do I like the “character”? Why am I drawn to him; curious? Why am I attracted?

Tenoch, plain and simple. I have no other way to articulate that thought, as it is shallow: I like the way Tenoch looks and speaks and characterizes Rafa, no deeper than that.

This story, a one-shot, the first I’ve read featuring him, is a Reader and it’s the perfect way to edge into a full blown hyperfixation. It’s my first in the realm of Tenoch’s other roles outside of Namor. It’s well paced, well plotted, well characterized, not too long or bitter, but rather sweet. I find that of the handful of fics I’ve read featuring Rafa, they are mostly tragedies. This one is not. It’s an easy narrative to be swept away by. I am not Afro Latina, or Mexican, and I don’t smoke weed, but I had no trouble reading this as I would “watch” an episode of the TV show, despite it being a “Reader” fic. And since I will probably never actually watch that show, this is good for me.

This is the first fic I read from the author. If you are intrigued by Rafa, here is a way for you to feed your curiosity that doesn’t require payment in angst.

While Ramonda refuses to even consider, Shuri can't help but be as drawn to Namor as he is to her. And the choices she makes will shape both their kingdoms in the time to come . . .

Why I Love It: So, there are always going to be the Hades/Persephone fics with a pairing like this. It’s just par for the course. 

What I love about this is that Shuri not only has agency/autonomy, she is level headed and practices diplomacy, and she is full of wonder and joy. Her mother is still alive, so she is not bitter with hatred towards Namor. She is still the curious, nerdy, charming young woman that is eager to explore a new world. Namor does not push, this is not dubious consent. Nor does he manipulate. He is just as awed and curious and charmed by her as she is of him. And he is honest, as he is wont to be. The union is natural, though there are obstacles.

Ramonda, in conjunction, is not written as a mean-spirited villain here (as she has been in a few Nashuri’s I’ve attempted to read), just a concerned and still grieving mother. What would you do if a 500 year old blood thirsty God asked you for your only remaining and youngest child’s hand in marriage? Shuri patiently, and respectfully reasons with her mother, asking for her independence and gaining it on her own terms. Shuri does this while acknowledging her mother's grief and anxiety around losing yet another child. And to the depth of the sea no less. And because of this, Ramonda comes to recognize her daughter as a woman with her own right to choose as she pleases, though it pains her. Reluctantly, albeit. But it's there. A mutual understanding and respect for one another.

The story is ongoing, but the writer proves that the union between Namor and Shuri is a good one, and strong. That it was the right thing to do. It has its obstacles, of course, a good drama needs conflict, but they are not no-win scenarios. And if the characters miscommunicate at times, they always find their way to the truth and express it with love and trust (so far). I would call this writing a healthy depiction of what Nashuri could look like outside of canon.

Hello! Because of my love for Wakanda Forever in all of its GLORY, I have been sucked back into the world of fanfiction!

Formerly known as @krockafella, I actually came back to Tumblr after I left all social media over a year ago, because I am truly hyper-fixated on Tenoch Huerta after his turn as Namor in BPWF. Also the performances that Letitia Wright and Angela Bassett gave in this film deserved all of the awards! Those women, along with Danai Gurira and Lupita Nyong’o are the backbone AND the meat of the film, no question. This film, more than even the first, has me thinking about it and consuming content/media about it almost obsessively now days. Y'all know how it goes.

So now, during this phase of hyper-fixation, I am interested in exploring these characters and reading the ways in which others interpret their motivations and arcs in their writing.

Fic writers in this fandom have been FEEDING me, with such amazing content! Every day I am amazed at the creativity and skill people are demonstrating with the fruitful motivation the film provided.

So! Because I’ve been reading and enjoying so many of these gems, I decided that I would do this Fic Rec Friday post every other Friday (that’s what I can commit to right now) where I post the fics that I have read, that I’m currently reading, or re-reading with a brief comment on why I love it.

I will read other things, but this is what I am mainly interested in right now, and it’s already a lot.

*If I specify that Reader fic characters be coded as Black or a Character of Color, it's because a lot of Reader fic tends to be coded white. If the reader fic is written in such a way as to truly be devoid of indicators to race/ethnicity, I will read it.

A few things to know:

I ship both Nashuri and Attoye (among other pairings, some of them are rare pairs). I DO NOT engage in fandom wars or discourse. I do not argue with strangers on the internet at my big age. If either of these pairs doesn’t make sense to you, or weirds you out or makes you uncomfortable or upsets you, it’s OK, but we don’t need to argue about it. If you are an author and your fic is on this list, but you do not wish for it to be included because you don’t want it on a list with the other pairing, just let me know (cordially please, without attitude) and I will remove your fic from the list. No harm, no foul.

That said, if there is anything on the list that you feel is beyond simply nonsensical, but problematic, genuinely offensive, discriminatory, et al, please let me know. I do my best not to read or recommend things that fall on that spectrum, but if you have a genuine concern I of course want to know if there's something I overlooked or didn't consider.

These recs will be posted with the link to the fic on ao3 and if the author has a Tumblr, their @handle. If the author has no Tumblr, but is on some other social platform, I will post that instead.

If the fic is posted on Tumblr, I will ❤️ it first, and then it will be queued to reblog on Fridays. I will usually comment on it, but my comments can mostly be found in the tags. If that is unacceptable to you, I’m sorry, that’s the way I like to run my blog. I like to do a rapid scroll, like, and then go through my likes some time later (days maybe weeks depending on how busy I am) and queue them up for reblogs. If you’d rather I’d reblog as soon as you post your fic or not at all, let me know (cordially please, without attitude) and I will do my best. I have a full time job, and sometimes all I have time for is to scroll and like quickly. Then on the weekends, I sit my old ass down, go through my likes and queue them up. I’m saying this multiple times so that there is no misunderstanding.

If the author has more than one work, not all of them will be listed in one post. I may not have read the others yet, and spreading them out will help keep the list fresh.

I will only recommend what I have read. I can’t recommend something I haven’t read myself, for obvious reasons. If you want me to read something, please ask. However, if it doesn’t end up on this list, please understand. I am open to giving feedback, but I probably won’t recommend something I don’t like.

This is mostly for me to organize the fics I like in a way that’s easy to find for anyone who is interested that may stumble across this blog. It’s useful, but it’s not that serious. If you want to interact with me about it, please do! (be nice tho)

Why I Love It: I have an affinity for threesomes. I’ve attempted to write them before, and this just takes me back to the days where I wasn’t too busy to let my freak flag fly all over this website.

This also took me by surprise, because it involves Namor, but the surprise is a welcome one because the way this is written, he belongs. He belongs here, and he is ostensibly the one in control of this situation. But actually, Okoye is the one in control here! What I love about this is not only do the two male parties make sure she is the one giving very specific, verbal consent, multiple times, but they are gentle with her protests, not responding in anger or retaliation. It’s a turn on. Consent is sexy, no?

I’m seriously hanging on edge (patiently) waiting for the full story to begin.

Why I Love It: One of things I absolutely adore about Attoye fic writers is how inventive they are with the pairing. Alternate Universe fics are honestly, some of my favorite type of fiction because it usually relies more on the writer's own world building, outside of the foundation the original creators of the IP laid for the story and characters. 

This took me by surprise. People tend to have an aversion for things they may deem to be “out of character” for incarnations that already exist within an established canon. This for me, is simply another fantasy. The point of fanfiction (IMO) is ultimately to pull apart, examine and experiment with what’s already there, then create something else entirely, if you’re that bold.

This is bold, brash, sexy, and entertaining! It’s an experiment, it’s a new mold and shape for these beloved characters. I enjoyed this very much.

This is the first fic I read from the author. Do yourself a favor and read it. Get out of your comfort zone!

Why I Love It: I often discover things like this late at night when I can’t sleep and I can’t stop fantasizing. This was a welcome relief to pass the time I spent in insomnia some nights ago.

I ate the whole thing up in a couple of hours read time. It’s one of the most mature explorations of this dynamic between film canon Shuri and Namor as they exist after the events of BPWF. While everyone can reasonably acknowledge that in real life, the idea of falling in love with the person who took the life of your mother is not rationally justifiable, those of us who can see a way for fictional characters to come around to it do appreciate the sensible approach.

You can ignore the un-sensible and suspend disbelief in most cases, but when you are presented with something that comes close to making sense in the world of fiction, it leaves room for unburdened enjoyment. This story does that. It unburdens the reader the same way it unburdens Shuri. Nothing is gone. Grief, sadness, anger, disgust – it’s all there. But as a human tends to do with lesser stakes in real life, so does a well-written character do with more dramatic stakes in a narrative. So does Shuri here. She connects, she learns, she grows. Namor is a calculating God, who gives Shuri what she wants under the guise of manipulation, but if you read between the lines drawn here, the author is actually telegraphing the nature of his true feelings and motivations for yielding to Shuri in more ways than just in the ways of war and diplomacy. He loves her, and will make himself weak in the eyes of his people for her, understanding that together they will be stronger. I would classify this as a slow burn, not in the traditional way you may think.

It’s calm, it’s introspective, it’s thorough, it takes itself seriously in how it handles the subject, but it knows what it is: fictional, hypothetical, fantastical. The characters have arcs you can track. Give it a chance, go on the journey. Follow the author’s updates here on Tumblr.
