B O D Y L O V E When I put my bikini on this morning underneath my cycling shorts, truth be told when I caught sight of my body in my friend's gargantuan mirror I was horrified at my reflection...I "thought" I looked fat, I thought I looked wobbly, I thought I looked awful... But, I then thought about how lucky I am to have a body that moves...limbs that work, knees that can help me pedal my bike, and a pair of boobs that don't cover my knees when I remove my bra!! FFS...where was my gratitude earlier? SO, just for today, I bravely showed off my bikini clad curves on the beach at Reculver and felt damn bloody proud! 51 and a half and only just starting not to give a fu@k! Donde están mis mujeres bonitas?! Wake up look at the mirror and give some love to yourself!!! Body shaming is something that perhaps is less harsh as it used to be years ago, but sadly it is still happening. Specially on women. We are always analyzed, scrutinized, and judged mostly by our looks rather than by any other quality! (Say “me too” anyone? 🙋🏻‍♀️) When I was growing up, many people, including friends and some family members used to mock my body, my weight and my shape, I was incredibly skinny and tall, so for many I was a “stick insect”, without curves at all. Fortunately I had a strong sense of self worth, and loving parents, so I learned how to receive the jokes as a daily thing and let them slip off me without affecting me at all. Still, as an adult, people were mocking me, but some jokes were turning into compliments. And now, there are only compliments. I know many people didn’t experience the “omg I can see your bones” “do you even eat?” “Be careful the wind might take you!” type of body shaming, but rather the opposite. And hey, though different and yet similar scenario, I feel you sis. People have to be respected, we all come in different shapes, colors, and “weights”. There’s nothing wrong with your sexy body! as long as you are HEALTHY! just keep a balanced diet, eat all your “colors” (as my mom would say) and walk or do some sports from time to time, you and your body are beautiful master pieces, LOVE IT! ROCK IT! I believe that if we see kindness and tolerance around us, we learn to be kind and tolerant to others, and thus making body shaming and similar judgmental behaviors disappear.
