Okay you GOTTA share ur thoughts on the raz models now im curious

i hope this wont be too long of a post i have a bit to say.

starting off, here's a model edit i did.

They just changed too much with his face proportions. It puts me off, as someone who really likes the pn1 model.

the changes are so subtle you may not even realize what i exactly changed. elaboration under Read More.

this is gonna be so opinionated. haha. but i really dont like his pn2 model. it just looks freaky(in a bad way) and doesn't look good from many angles. its just like, ugly(bad way).

this is hard to say with pictures only but i'll try to say the main things that doublefine changed and that i put back. I'll go over some specifics but here,

Maybe treat this as a "can you spot it" list.

his new model has his eyes too far apart. Or they're too big. They need more space inbetween his outer helmet and eye corners. *

In his pn1 model the eyelids are thicker. they're a lot thinner in the 2nd.

his EYE SHAPE changed *

his helmet moves with his eyebrows *

His eyebags/dark circles are less pronounced or may not even be present in the 2nd.

Made his nose slightly bigger(?) (not a big deal, just noticed it.)

His eyebrows are more kempt and are pushed farther from the middle *

head is less square. helmet sides need to be pushed in more.

Nose bridge is less defined *

He has more, face fat?

His general face expressions also contribute to the off-look. He's not able to look angry? Or they just don't push it hard enough. A lot of raz's resting expressions in pn2 just have him look worried. Or like a kicked puppy. Don't really get it.

And none of these are particularly heinous things to do. but all together just creates a whole new Raz.

A lot of those changes come from the change in artstyle/art direction. Which i'm also not a fan of!!

And pictures are hard to provide because with Psychonauts models, no two pictures look the same for some reason. So something i listed previously may be present. These are just traits i listed to myself while trying to find some notable difference.

Why did they do this. It looks freaky. Making an already freaky character look needlessly weird.

I have quite a bit to say on other characters too. They contribute to the reason why I'm not a fan of the Pn2 models.

Hope they're clear to see. The pics are a bit dark.

Unlike Sasha and Lili these two can handle rounder edges without much detriment.

Milla's Pn2 model isn't that offensive but I still do think its the worst one. Its all down to preference on if you prefer Pn1's chilled look or every other more expressive model. Like Ror's. That model looks great, i can't imagine diversifying away from that look.

Milla and Raz both benefit from having their faced a little squished in. Examples of the Pn2 Raz model looking a bit better:

Wanted to add that Sasha and Milla both previously did not have eyebrows in Pn1 but gained them in Pn2.

No more pictures. But extra extra note, all of their colors got lighter/changed in some way. why

To have a face is to have personhood. So by making Bell wear a balaclava, Bell's personhood and identity is denied.

Bell's balaclava therefore serves two purposes. In universe it serves both as a tool to sever the connection between Bell and their former identity and to dehumanize them to the rest of the safe house crew. Getting attached to Bell is dangerous and it's easy to get attached to something with a face. By removing Bell's face from the equation with the Balaclava it becomes easier for Park and Adler to avoid becoming attached to Bell.

Out of universe it allows the player to imagine however they want Bell to look like without having to add actual character model customization to the game.

Day One: Soulmates/Doomed Pair

Word Count: 1,845

(there is background, implied Remisa and one-sided Yagamane as this is going to be as canon compliant as it gets)

The concept of soulmates being tied together by red string is a rather interesting idea. An invisible red thread tying two people together that can have knots and tangles, and can be pulled across countries and oceans but can never break, really shows a deep understanding on how human connections form and work along with the complexities of human relationships, while still showing that people are simply made for each other, and that nothing can keep them apart.

However, I always preferred a more... realistic version of the concept.

That being the more you pull away from the other, the more tighter the rope will cling into your skin, before you have to, need to stop, so that the rope doesn't cut right through your finger and fall by the side of the one you are running from. So the only thing you can do is either stay where you are, with the thread still pulling you towards them, it sticking tight on your skin, or, go forward towards them relieve the tension on the thread, while getting closer to the one you never even wanted to be close to. Of course, the thread is always interpreted as a mental link, something that can never be physical due to the impossibility of something like that ever existing. It's why this belief has lived on for thousands of years.

And they are correct in some ways. The thread is a mental image and can only be tightened when one is mentally pulling away from someone, but the feelings are physical. You are able to feel every push and tug that comes from that thread.

In short, what I'm trying to say is we shouldn't focus on how the thread can't break. We should focus more on that the thread won't break, no matter what you do, no matter how far you run, it will always connect you to your soulmate, despite how much you need it to break.

It's always there, a reminder of the inevitable, a reminder that one day, you will meet the person that you will be spending your entire life with, and the moment you try to pull away from them, you know. You know that it it them.

Light knows that it's L.

Even since he acknowledged L's existence, he felt the thread tighten.

He, of course, ignored it for as long as he could. He had much bigger things to do as Kira than to worry about who Light Yagami's soulmate was and brushed it off as the woman that was actually connected to the end of it was having a hard time accepting that she has a soulmate and was rebelling. Most girls do at this age.

This didn't change the fact anytime Light thought about L, the thread moved along his finger, going from tight to loose depending on his thoughts. Sometimes, it's better to just ignore the facts.

Until he couldn't anymore.

Let me ask you this, what would you do if no matter how far you pull the thread, it never tightens?

It started when one Misa Amane arrived at the front of his house, on a cold winter's afternoon, the day the cameras and wiretaps were removed from his home, looking for her 'soulmate', Kira.

"Kira has to be my soulmate. Anytime I think about getting to know him, I can feel the thread looping around my finger, which is an indication that you are getting closer to your chosen one! Which means you have to be my soulmate!"

Light didn't actually know this and was somewhat grateful for her bringing it to his attention. Somewhat. But that didn't change the fact that Misa was not his soulmate. He hasn't felt the thread get loose on its own, and no matter how much he thought about living a life with Misa, the string never changed.

This did leave him feeling some sorrow. If Misa was his soulmate, it would make things much easier for him. Never having to hide Kira from her and being able to rule a new world with someone who was completely devoted to him, and never second guessing him would be the perfect partner for him. However, he was already exhausted from spending two hours with her. He didn't think that he could spend his entire life with her.

After listening to her whole reasoning on why she thought Kira was her soulmate, and hearing a certain shinigami's name come up in almost every step, Light was quick to realise who her actual soulmate was. He just hoped she would figure it out too, before it was too late.

He places Misa's death note with his own in the drawer and swears to them both, mostly Rem, that he would look after it while she is away.

He was at least willing to pretend to think she was his soulmate, until he found the right time to tell her that he wasn't.

His realisations had led him to start actually considering his options on who his soulmate could be, because it couldn't be him. Light won't let it be him.

Soon he had a list of all the names that could possibly be his soulmate. There were only five names on the list.

Three were girls that he dated during his highschool years, one boy that he was very close to in middle school before they moved to different high schools and the last one-

The last one didn't matter. It wasn't him.

He really thought that would have been the end of it until he met L.

When he first saw him in that exam room, he knew something was off about him. The way he sat in his seat, his unnatural mannerism that kept eyes on him and the fact he scored the exact same score that Light got on the exam.

It wasn't much of a surprise to find out that man was L, but it still came as a bit of a shock. He knew that L wouldn't be like the average person, but Light didn't think it would be this extreme.

Light pulled away from the thread on reflex after hearing the words "I'm L." It's something he had grown accustomed to after these few months. He could never let himself get too close. The thread pulling towards L had become somewhat of a comfort to him.

And when he felt the thread tugging at him, L's eyes widened just slightly.

Fuck.

L knew.

He had to know now.

So Light needs to pretend not to know that he is his soulmate. It's the best chance he has at allowing himself to have mental outburst towards L without L suspecting anything.

Plus, Light needed time to think about what just happened. Why did L reveal himself to Light?

Damn it! He knows I'm his soulmate!

Does being his soulmate change how he will approach the case from now or is not going to mean anything. No, stop thinking about soulmates! I need to control myself. Sure, he knows that I could be his soulmate, but it wouldn't matter to him.

I just need to continue as though I don't know anything, like the son of Soichiro Yagami.

Except; L took it one step further.

When L offered to play tennis with him, Light pulled himself away when answering, in order to maintain the mentality distance of himself from L. He didn't know what L would do if Light let himself get too close. Except this time was different.

This time, the thread didn't tighten.

The thread didn't tighten.

Why did it not tighten?

What do you do when the one you are trying to get away from is getting closer?

Sure, he had felt the thread get loose on its own during the entrance ceremony, but he didn't expect it to go this far.

Light, despite earlier claims, jumps to conclusions quite easily, but this was something he needed to spend time thinking on, even though the task at hand was already a lot for him to handle.

Playing tennis in an inconspicuous way, while trying to decipher what L was thinking, with that intentionally playing into how he plays tennis, al while paying too much attention to the sensation of his fingers.

He's surprised he is even able to remember he needs to move in order to play.

The thread was becoming loose and tight by both parties during the entire game, but when it ended, the thread felt a lot looser than before.

He decided to ignore it.

He decided to ignore it.

He had other things that needed his attention at this moment.

He didn't want to think about this implications.

Light's move to go to a cafe made things much easier for him to navigate, especially after hearing from L that he is still a suspect in the case. So it actually gave him time to ponder about the thread as he was answering L's questions, as they were easy enough to answer.

Why would the thread be moving closer? Is L it as a manipulative strategy in order to try and throw me off my game? No, that wouldn't make sense. There's no way that L could know that I know that he is on the end of the string. Then again, he could be testing me, like he is right, testing if I'm truly on the other side of his string and trying to see if that reveals anything for the Kira case. Testing my reactios and how the string moves in order to try and reas what I'm thinking to see if I am -

A thought hit Light that almost made him stutter while speaking.

H-how long have I been accepting him as being at the end of the thread?

How long have I been accepting him as my soulmate?

It-it doesn't matter right now. It's only natrual to be thinking that in this situation. I should keep believing that it might be the case, in case it is, which it is not, but it is better to be safe and continue acting the same, rather than change my thinking patterns now and have L become suspicious of m-, A fourth letter?!

It doesn't matter what the reason is right now, there are other things that need to be taken care of.

There always is, isn't there?

Despite the fact their time at the cafe dragged on for much longer than what Light believed was necessary, he took comfort in the fact that there is no resistance when pulling the thread anymore.

Because it means the thread hasn't wrapped around L's finger.

Yet.

But it wouldn't, because L is not Light's soulmate. But, hypothetically if L was, that at least means he doesn't have to shut out any mental responses in order to keep the thread as motionless as possible.

And just as they were about to start leaving, so Light could have more time to think by himself,

Light's phone began to ring.
