Being there with the teacher the aim of one has to learn, to grasp, absorb, and evolve. This is the normal way in all other fields except when it comes to self, each one goes to a spiritual/religious teacher holding the teacher within as a force to counter knowingly or unknowingly. So the teacher within the student absorbs little or nothing for the aim remains to teach others without first properly learning, grasping, absorbing one teaches words meaningful or not to others. I am a student even now for HIS teachings continues and my learning too follows, keeping mind and consciousness busy trying to grasp, absorb the depth of the teaching. I have to be there with HIM, near HIM, without the ' I ' being there, Here only HE remains and when HE finds that the knowledge is absorbed properly and it is realized only then can I give.
