FONTAINES D.C. - Big Shot (Glastonbury festival, 2024)

One of my favourite lines from Big Shot. Here's Grian singing it during Fontaines' headline set on the Park Stage at Glasto 2024. Figured it was also a decent shot, the pensive mood, Grian's tricolour band he sets up on his mic at every show the band play now, the beauty of all that in context of the line he's singing. And of course, for Grian in the eyeliner; I am a people pleaser at heart. I've been meaning to gif that moment since June.

Chalk Circle were an American punk rock/post-punk band formed in 1981 in Washington, DC (not to be confused with Canadian band of the same name).

I was so happy to come across this track again, I hadn't heard it in years!

It embodies the raw, angular intensity of early post-punk, driven by a minimalist yet forceful sound.

Hi (I find that people like to say mean things to me because I put a little $$$ on my blaze, I didn’t really know it’s for art per say but I do know that my playlist is worth it…hear me out!!!)

I was born in a affluent family of African American/ Portuguese/ Golden hill Paugussett indigenous heritage

Mom listened to Mick Hucknall, originally at the Sex Pistol gig! Went on to form Simply Red. Dad listened to only black music, I used to get beat for listening to Editors, Interpol and Tokyo Police Club, bad too… fucker broke my shoulder and then took me to the doctors lol

Dad left, so I got to expand my taste. For awhile I just discovered British bands

This collection is not just music I heard that I put on a playlist, half of it is dear to me! Very dear! I wouldn’t be the same person if it weren’t for the collective of dark subgenres. Please, enjoy over 300 hours featuring no particular annoying order, perfect for random searches and long nights of … well painting and studying!!!!

I’ll admit I do have some color…

When I read in GQ article Cillian Murphy saying about last Fontaines D.C. concert in London: “My son was in the mosh pit. I was in the balcony with the other dads”, I was like: “Mosh pit?! He knows what it is?! But mosh pit at the gig like this?! Hmmm”.

And last week one day later Fontaines D.C. in Madrid my stomach muscles reminded me that he was right. I was next to the mosh pit at not metal gig for the first time. WTF?! After “Boys in the better land”, which is my favourite and I could record nothing, I found myself about a few metres away from my starting location 😂 And a lady in front of me started pushing and yelling. Me and lads around were surprised and laughing. Guy behind trying to talk to her but it didn’t work. I didn’t understand her and even if I did I couldn’t help. I could yelling back that she need to take a sit and there are no place in pit for her cause she is much older than she really is?! But just yelled: ”What the fuck?!” and back to the band. She was lucky she wasn’t more to the left where the guys just went crazy. Yep, the mosh pit felt unnecessary but anyway, I hate you, lady from the second line 🖕

The band sounds even better, heavier, more energetic live. I didn’t expect. They are so good! What a gig! 🖤🤘🔥 Watching them leave on buses reminded me of good old days 😭

I was parsing the lyrics and felt dumb, like after David Bowie’s lyrics. Love it. They are definitely the best young band right now. I mean really young, they are younger than me I guess 😂

And they are so Irish against English. Love them even more 💚🤍🧡

i saw this album on my list and thought "i have no idea who this is" until i realized i'd been bumping their newest album back when i was a janitor. so at least i had something new to look forward to from them

"Big" has been in my playlists for years now. this guy is 4 steps ahead of me at all times

when a song is a dude just kinda talking to you while the instrumental is going insane is one of my favorite genres of music, and "Hurricane Laughter" is delivering

oh and just when i thought i was safe turns out "Boys in the Better Land" is also another song that i've listened to for a while, wow. is my memory this bad? have i listened to this before??? im confused, good album, 8/10
