How does Cult of the Lamb work? And what's your favorite spider and favorite spider behavior?

It's a game where you're a cult leader separated into two distinct styles of gameplay: roguelike combat and base building (idk the genre name). You build your cult base and go on expeditions. Expeditions give you resources to expand your cult. Expand your cult to give you benefits when on expeditions. It's a very addictive loop.

As for favorite spider, I am not immune to the alluring dance of the peacock spider.

So only for like half of them (I just, do not have thoughts about Poseidon, sorry), and none of these are exactly original (and are all probably overly meanspirited), but for the ones I do-

Zeus - Honestly just want to say 'literally Berlusconi' but that's not that interesting is it?

Hades - Trad-masculinity influencer. Not even as a grift, he owns a mining company or something, he just has a lot of advice to offer young men about dating and how to make women commit.

Apollo - Yeah this one's just going to have to be 'med school golden boy sex pest/future #metoo scandal wherever he gets hired'

Artemis - Has significantly more dogs than human friendships. Takes probably excessive pride in hunting her own meat. Shared a lot of 'humanity are the real virus' memes during lockdown, and still hasn't gotten vaxed because big pharma. Probably not online enough to be an actual terf but like, the spirit's there.

Hermes - Thoughtleading Thinkfluencer tweeted and instagramed and youtubed and substacked his way into relevance despite zero expertise in anything except brand-building and now he's got a podcast with a six-digit subscriber count. Actually very funny, but has definitely dunked on numerous people with his million-follower twitter account and basically ruined their lives.

Aphordite - okay this one's just obvious. Beauty vlogger and tiktok star and the picture next to 'toxic femininity' in the dictionary. #girldinner #girlmath #coquette etc. Directly responsible for at least a dozen eating disorders.

Ares - from everything my friend whose really into it has ever said, he would 100% be an MMA guy, or at least a former one. Like, Joe Rogan wannabe except with none of the chill or comedy and significantly more macho bragging about fucked up stuff he's done. Most likely to get high at a party and commit a hate crime.

I can see how it might be prudent to not be vague about gender because you don't want your audience to go "wait I thought that person was..." during the middle of the plot (when it's not relevant to the plot). I'm not sure what your profs were on about though.

​oh yeah i did have one of my profs say "aren't you worried the audience will be confused?" about my first design for my main character, and yeah given my graduate film isn't meant to be very long it isn't something you want to spend a lot of time on in the exposition, you want things to be clear just from looking so we can get to the action quickly without taking up time on details. but then she also said 'it's not like she suddenly has the body of a man, she's just putting on a man's costume', which. was. uh. i mean it's a choice, to phrase it that way.

meanwhile my other prof whose specialty is art and character designs for animation told me "it's cheating to draw a man and give him breasts and ask the audience to accept him as a woman" (????????????????) and "you can always tell from looking at someone even when they dress it up" (???????????????????????) and basically acted like everyone who has a vagina always has wide hips and narrow shoulders all the time....??? like i assume somewhere in there what he was really trying to say was 'you aren't clearly communicating what you want to communicate with this character design' or 'this character design isn't consistent' but it wasn't exactly helping me in realize my vision in a way that IS clearly communicative and IS consistent and also is quite possibly the most insane transphobic way you could possibly phrase that bit of advice????

(i told about this to my friend later and they got super mad on my behalf and when i showed her the references i used she told me 'if he DARES say anything about how afab people look next time show him this' lmao so i at least feel like i'm not crazy in that i am not seeing what my teachers seems to seeing)

Fullmetal Alchemist Birds

Here it is a full summary of all the birds that’ve collectively been found in the original fullmetal alchemist manga let’s go

The Omake’s are unfortunately non-canon but there it is proof that arakawa has at lest once drawn a real bird we’re off to a great start Noncanon/10

Look at that bird silhouette - while it was clearly added for humor that is a definite bird shape and could be our first real bird sighting! Omen/10 lets see if we can do better 

Oooh nice, the Hohenheim-Dying Bird. Is it a real bird? Is it a metaphor for life and death and the transition between them? Who can say for certain! There’s at least one feather in there so even if it’s a ghost it’s got Detail: Metaphysical/10!

The first bird doesn’t get much definition and it only shows up as a background smear so we can’t say for certain it’s not a freaky chicken but the odds are good that is at least one more real bird! ProbablyABird/10!

There’s no feathers to be seen but they’ve got beaks and what look sort of like wings so they’re well on their way to being actual honest to god birds! WillBeABird/10!

whoever told you that was deceiving you. the word used is olah, literally every usage in the bible refers to burnt offerings. here's more background. also, in context he's clearly not home: he is currently advancing against the ammonites

somehow id never heard this one. people argue that she was just dedicated to god and kept in seclusion or something, and that the word translated as "and" is more like "or". but from what i can tell this is all apologetics, the reference to burnt offerings is very clear. plus it doesnt have to mean god *likes* human sacrifices, just that he recieves them. part of a whole "unwise vow" theme in judges

Red still caught Mewtwo in this au, but it was on Giovanni’s orders. Giovanni considers him too unstable/vengeful to use for anything beyond rotting away in stasis in a lab. Because of that, the kindest fate for Blaine here probably would have been getting shot for trying to leave Rocket.

Well, in a sense you're right: the article I wrote was prompted by a comment someone left on that long SSC thread where I got into a fight with su3.

(For the record, some of what I wrote isn't really directly in response to that person. For example, I wrote of the concept of an "Uncanny Tangle" in a bit of early text that never made it into the article. And some of the article wasn't written with the intention of the tangles having anything to do with "uncorporealized AI" or whatever, it just developed that connection as I wrote.)

But I can't really think of much else that's directly inspired by the comment. nostalgebraist-autoresponder's tangles all started as dreams and are grounded in reality, while her sense of touch is mostly real, for example, and the connection to the AI in that sense-of-touch case is even clearer in the dream world.

That being said, it certainly would have been nice if the comment had been left by someone who knew about that thread and not su3 (or some other commentator who used the same name). So, thanks for that.

Spelling and pronunciation aren't the same thing! I would absolutely pronounce Jesus' with three syllables.

As is well known*, the rule** for turning proper names that end in an "s" into possessives is that you add 's, unless the name is Jesus or Moses, in which case you just add an apostrophe. So "Jesus' tears" but "Harris's tears".

But I just hit an interesting edge case. What about people who are named "Moses" or "Jesus", but aren't the Moses or the Jesus? What's the rule there?

Any specific game state resolves regardless of whether the two prime conjecture is true. But Alice has a guaranteed winning strategy if and only if the conjecture is true.

You're right that the players both pick specific numbers. But the order is important. Bob picks a number first, and he can pick any number he wants. Alice picks a number second, and she needs a number that is larger than Bob's number, but also a twin prime.

So if the twin prime conjecture is false, then Bob can just pick a number larger than the largest twin prime, and he wins. But if the twin prime conjecture is true, then Bob doesn't have a winning move. Whatever number he picks, Alice can pick a number that's even larger, and still a twin prime.

Now @d007ization is right that Alice doesn't have a useful way to find that prime at the table. In practice, if I'm Alice and Bob says a million, I don't actually know what number I need to pick, even though there are definitely twin primes bigger than that. But if TPC is true, then Alice has a winning move, even if she can't figure it out at the table.

(but of course it's trivial to write down an algorithm that generated arbitrarily large twin primes, if they exist. Just try every number in order! It's just Very Slow.)

Ok first of all, the MTG game state doesn't just need the TPC to be true, it also needs a way to generate arbitrarily large twin primes, which I seriously doubt will ever happen. I'm not sure I understand your objection but Alice can't simply pick a larger prime number than Bob's number: He can respond (once) by reducing her number by 1, making it composite and her card doesn't work if it's composite. She can however, reduce her number by 1 also, making it prime again/the smaller twin prime.

My objection is that in a game, it sounds as if the players need to designate specific numbers. I'm no mathematician, but I don't think finding out whether a specific number is still prime when you do stuff to it proves stuff about all numbers.
