D20 Bounty Board Event Interest Check!
Howdy y'all! We'd like to make an interest check for a potential D20 community fanfiction event — the D20 Bounty Board.
The event is fairly simple: participants will be able to post bounties (prompts/fic requests) on the event Discord server, and other participants will be able to snipe these prompts for points. Anyone can claim any prompt, but only the first to post their fic will earn the FASTEST FINGERS FIRST bonus!
Other than writing fics, there will be other ways to participate and earn rewards, through writing prompts, beta-reading and commenting! We're hoping to host a pilot run of the event in August, and make it happen annually :)
If this sounds compelling to you, we'd really love it if you could fill in our interest check form here!
If you have any questions about the event, feel free to drop us an ask!

Interest Check Summary!
Howdy everyone, and thanks for all your interest in D20 Bounty Board! We thought it’d be good to do a little summary of the interest check form, so full information for this under the cut.
TL;DR though, thank you for the enthusiastic response! We’re really excited to be hosting all of you in August. :)
There were 45 total respondents to the interest check form, so thank you! It’s really helpful for us to gauge participation and readership for the event. Here’s a short summary of each question:
For Q1, on how respondents identified their position in D20 fandom, the majority (93.3%) identified as fic writers, followed very closely by fic readers (86.7%). Thankfully, no one said that they didn’t read any D20 fanfiction, which is good to know. We also have a good number of respondents who said that they also create other forms of fanworks (24.4%)!
For Q2, on interest in participating in the event, almost everybody who responded said they’d be interested in participating in the event, barring availability and experience (thank god, because now we know we can run it and people will participate enthusiastically).
Rest assured — you don’t have to have any experience with D20 fandom to participate in Bounty Board! We’d love to have you, whether you’re a seasoned contributor or this is your first fandom event. :)
For Q3, on whether people have fic ideas/prompts that they would like filled, a little more than a quarter of respondents said yes (26.7%), the same number said no (26.7%), and the rest said that they could probably make something up on the spot (46.7%). This is encouraging too, because it means that people will probably have prompts stocked up to post!
Please don’t worry if you post fewer prompts, or none at all, though. You as a participant can decide how and how much you participate in the event, whether that’s focusing on writing prompts, fulfilling prompts, or even just reading along and commenting! There is no expectation for minimum participation. If you want to spend the whole event just filling other people’s prompts, that’s totally fine too.
For Q4, on participants’ availability, most participants were free during the Northern Hemisphere summer vacation (that is, the months of July and August). We recognise that there isn’t a perfect slot for everyone when it comes to availability, but we’ll try our best to schedule future iterations so that as many people as possible can participate, depending on how the pilot goes! We’ll be sticking to our August pilot date for now, as a result.
For Q5, on whether participants would prefer individuals or teams, the majority said they had no strong feelings either way (71.1%), and there was a minor preference for teams over individuals (15.6% vs 13.3%). Based on this, we’ll be trialing having teams during the pilot run of the event to facilitate a sense of camaraderie and community!
For Q6 and Q7, we’ll address them together since they’re about similar things: what people would be interested in reading and writing about! The majority of readers and writers were both overwhelmingly interested in Fantasy High, with almost every respondent to this question writing it in.
For readers, this was followed mostly by the other Intrepid Heroes seasons, with interest being relatively close between The Unsleeping City, A Crown of Candy, and A Starstruck Odyssey (sorry to Neverafter, which fell pretty significantly behind the rest). There was a smattering of interest in pretty much every Side Quest season, with A Court of Fey and Flowers, Misfits and Magic, and Never Stop Blowing Up leading the pack. The only SQs not mentioned here were Tiny Heist and Shriek Week.
For writers, the margin between Fantasy High and pretty much every other season was much larger, with a whopping 28 respondents to this question (70%) indicating that they’d want to write about it. For context, the next runners up were The Unsleeping City and A Starstruck Odyssey, both of which clocked 9 writers (22.5%). Other than this, interest in other seasons was mostly similar and also much less diverse, with 14 campaigns mentioned compared to the readers’ 18 campaigns.
In conclusion, it seems that there’s a demand for a wider variety of fics than writers currently are writing! We hope that Bounty Board can help to lessen this discrepancy, and match more readers with writers who love the same things that they do. :)
For Q8, this was once again dominated by characters from the world of Spyre, but with a good spread of characters from other IH seasons and Side Quests! Congratulations once again to Riz Gukgak for being the most popular fandom Blorbo (13 responses) but congratulations ALSO to Kristen Applebees who was only one away (12 responses). The most popular non-Spyre character was Pete Conlan (6 responses).
For Q9, we received mostly positive feedback and some questions/comments — we’ve already answered these in this post. If you have any other questions or comments, feel free to send us an ask through our ask box.
Thanks to everyone for reading, and we’ll see you soon! We’ll be opening up the Discord server for the event in June.

Answering some questions from the interest check form
Thanks for the enthusiastic response to the interest check form so far! We'll be keeping it open for a while so feel free to continue to express your thoughts on the event.
Answers to some of the questions that have been submitted through the form:
How accessible the event will be: how long will we have to make things, are there limits or expected word count etc?
There is no expected word count and no word limit, and you can earn points for any fic you post. HOWEVER there are additional points you can earn for incremental word count starting at 1k. TL;DR there are no expectations but there are goals.
I would suggest making it like, full points for first fic and then partial points for any subsequent fics for the same prompt to make a fic not seem worthless? And maybe making "first" be the whole day? Those are just suggestions though
The FASTEST FINGERS FIRST bonus will apply separately from the points you receive for posting a fic and for word count. So you can still earn a lot of points just by posting, even if you aren't the fastest! We're hoping this balances out for longer works that people want to spend more time and energy on as well. :)
You are also free to post both one-shots and multi-chapters, but points will scale differently for both. More information about the point matrix will be made available closer to the event!
If you have any other questions about the event, you can also shoot us an ask!
