i can admit this Dabi is my roman empire. imagine you write a superpowers world and establish early on underneath the fun shonen glaze is very clearly unjust system that has fascist undertones and it lurks under the fun at all moments and then you write The poster child of Domestic Abuse with a father implied to be SO BAD it might be the first case of people rooting for a potential father murderer in mainstream fiction. enter Dabi, a character so critical his existence can shake up the hero society, with potential to shape the direction the story would take, just to redeem Endeavor. just to make Shoto a well adjusted hero. imagine you capture how domestic violence feels, the stress induced autoimmune diseases destroying your body, hating your home and hating the world for it, just to not utilize it. damn.

maybe its the Trans in me but when a character has to reinvent themselves and take on a new name and earn it and make it theirs i dont like to see them walked back into their past. when a character is rejected and treated like a criminal and outcasted and isolated, when the circumstances became them i dont like to see it undone, healed or set aside in clumsy ways because they cant afford to explore the very real and very difficult experiences of alienation and trauma. you made your bed now lie in it. take it to its potential. engage with traumatized, difficult characters now that youve set them up as cool interesting people.
