The making of Emperor’s In the Nightside Eclipse

[…] Released from prison in December 2002 after serving nine years and four months’ time, Faust joins fellow ex-Emperors Samoth, Ihsahn (guitar/ vocals/keys) and Tchort (bass) on the eve of a sudden Emperor reunion (featuring Samoth, Ihsahn and longtime Emperor drummer Trym) to recount the making of one of the most historically fascinating and sonically influential albums in the annals of extreme metal…

What are your most vivid memories of the recording sessions for In the Nightside Eclipse?

Faust: There were a lot of practical things we had to organize, because Bergen is like 500 kilometers from Oslo, and we were very young at the time, and we didn’t really know how to organize ourselves. But we managed to get hold of a car and we managed to actually get an apartment in Bergen. The car we used was from Samoth’s father, and I was the only one who had a driving license.

Ihsahn: For me personally, it was kind of a turning point. We had recorded demos before, and also the first Emperor EP, but that was in a very cheap studio. This time we went to Bergen and Grieghallen, and recorded in a big studio with an experienced sound engineer and everything. I was only 17 at the time, so I couldn’t get into the pubs, and since I had to do the guitars and the vocals and all the keyboards, I spent a lot of time in that studio. When the other guys finished their parts, they could always go to the local rock pub and hang out. I’d generally been very interested in sound engineering, and because I couldn’t get into the pubs, I’d spend my nights with Pytten, the engineer, learning about recording and studio technology.

Tchort: I remember Varg Vikernes walking around the studio in his chain mail eating ice cream. I had just turned 19 and was starting to drink coffee for the first time. Grieghallen was huge—the drums were set up in a big hall and that’s where I recorded the bass as well. Before, I had only been inside a small basement studio, and this was a hall where big orchestras could be recorded live.

Samoth: I had just turned 19 that summer, and I remember Bård and I terrorizing the Bergen neighborhoods in my dad’s old Ford Econovan. [Laughs] We had a lot of fun during those weeks, but also a lot of work. We were quite inexperienced as far as being in the studio, and this was really the first big recording for any of us. There were some magic musical moments in the studio, for sure, but I don’t remember too many concrete incidents from the actual studio session. I remember more about the time, the atmosphere and the total rebellious freedom I felt back then.

Were all the songs completely written beforehand, or were parts improvised in the studio?

Ihsahn: Oh, yes, we’ve always had all the material ready before we go into the studio. I would say it was pretty well rehearsed. We never booked time before we were actually finished writing the songs.

Samoth: The song structures were all done, but a lot of the symphonic keyboard parts were actually made in the studio. We didn’t have a keyboard player at the time, so we never rehearsed with keyboards prior to the recording. Of course, certain parts we already had planned the keyboard lines for, and some riffs were made with keyboard lines in mind to begin with, but the overall symphonic and atmospheric layering on Nightside was pretty much composed by Ihsahn during the recording session.

Tchort: As far as I remember, most of the material was written beforehand, but the intro for the song “Towards the Pantheon” was made during our stay in the apartment next to the studio.

The album was co-produced by Pytten, who also produced Mayhem’s De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas and the first Burzum albums. What was he like?

Ihsahn: He was the sound engineer at Grieghallen Studios, and still is, as far as I know. He also recorded several Immortal and Enslaved albums. Grieghallen came to be the studio where everybody recorded their first black metal albums. But Pytten wasn’t a metal guy at all—he was just a very good sound engineer. He used to work for Norwegian television, as a host on a youth program. He’s a very nice guy and a very skilled guy, socially. He related very well to all these extreme types— all these young black metallers who were coming in. He took it very seriously.

Faust: I have only good memories about him. He was very well educated in his work, and very relaxed. In the past, Grieghallen wasn’t one of my favorite studios, but I think he put a trademark sound on each recording—a very organic and dynamic sound. I think he was a part of getting the right sound for In the Nightside Eclipse. At the time, he was already famous in Norway as a musician— in the ’80s he was in a band called Blind Date. His daughter is one of the most famous handball players in Norway now—she’s a very known icon for sports, and I think she was voted most sexy female in a magazine back in 2002 or something. We met her, because she would always drop by the studio when bands were recording there. I think she was maybe a year or two younger than us.

Tchort: Everyone seemed to “know” Pytten from a TV show he used to be on, but I didn’t recognize him. He was cool to work with, kinda relaxed. I remember he didn’t like the bass I brought, so I borrowed one of his for the recording. I don’t think his bisexual daughter was into handball—or at least not known—back then, as she was probably only 15 or 16 at the time.

Five of the songs on Nightside actually have the word “Emperor” in the lyrics. Did you think of Emperor as a character, or was it purely self-referential?

Ihsahn: [Laughs] I didn’t realize that. You know, I can’t really remember all that was put into the lyrics at that time, because some of them are mixed with stuff that Mortiis wrote before he left the band. He wrote lyrics for “I Am the Black Wizards” and “Cosmic Keys [to My Creations and Times]” and then me and Samoth wrote some lyrics together. I wrote the lyrics to “Inno a Satana” and “The Majesty of the Nightsky” on my own. So it’s all a big mixture, but I think they were partly drawn out from some of the concepts that Mortiis was working on at the time. The rest was pure imagination. I think there was a lot of running through forests [laughs]—it’s all very epic. I suspect we used the word “landscape” more than once as well.

Samoth: I think we saw “Emperor” as a sort of entity. We didn’t really ever use the word “Satan” much in our lyrics. We’ve always used a lot of metaphors and symbolism. Emperor became a metaphor for our own entity, for the dark lord, for the devil, for the strong and the mighty. There could be several ways to see it, you know.

Tchort: I don’t think I read the lyrics until I was holding the finished album in my hands. I came from a different part of Norway, so the few times we met were for rehearsals — I didn’t witness the birth of the songs and the lyrics behind them.

There’s an essay in the appendix to the book Lords of Chaos that compared black metal as a Scandinavian youth phenomenon to the Norse legend of the Oskoreien, “the ride of the dead,” which was also reflected in a Norse folk custom that involved groups of young males terrorizing villages on horseback while wearing masks, making noise, etc. Are you referring to Oskoreien in “Into the Infinity of Thoughts” when the lyrics go, “In the name of the almighty Emperor I will ride the Lands in pride, carrying the Blacksword at hand, in warfare”?

Ihsahn: Until you say it now, I’ve never heard that comparison. To be honest, my only connection to Oskoreien is more or less the famous Norwegian painting—I’ve seen the original at the national museum here in Norway. It’s also on the cover of the Bathory album Blood Fire Death, which is my favorite black metal album. But I never read Lords of Chaos. I know I did an interview with that guy, and I think I’m referenced in the book, but I never bothered to read it. I’ve never had any interest in that side of it—all the hysteria, and what everybody else wanted it to be. Of course, in the beginning, we knew all the people involved, but the whole idea of a unified black metal scene was just very unfamiliar to how I experienced it. I’ve always been detached from that and, how do you say? . . . kind of self-centered about my own work. I’ve never cared very much for the whole scene and its development.

Was there anything in particular that influenced the lyrics—books, films, etc.?

Samoth: Emperor expressed many things, both internal and external, during the years. The power of Norwegian nature was always a source of inspiration for us, especially in the earlier years. We found great motivation in the vast forests and mighty mountains, and would actively be a part of it and also use its visual strength in our artistic vision. We also had a strong fascination for anything ancient, such as the Viking era. Ihsahn and I would spend a lot of time brainstorming on concept ideas, and at one point we had this whole concept of a dark fantasy world going. It was all very visual, I think. We drew a lot of influences from artwork related to Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings. And keep in mind, this was 10 years before you could buy a “Lord of the Rings burger” at Burger King—quite a different vibe, so to say. We also had a period where we had a strong fascination for the whole Dracula myth and everything related to Transylvania, the Carpathian Mountains, the dark corners of Eastern Europe and folklore. For example, a film like Nosferatu—both the 1979 one and the 1922 silent movie—was a big part of our ambiance and visual influences.

Ihsahn: The lyrics represent very much the imaginary world we were occupied with. I never really read The Lord of the Rings or any of the things that everybody in that scene was reading at the time. I steered away from that, but the words we used and the fantasy imagery were still part of the whole way we thought and played. It doesn’t really mean much in particular on this album, but it does capture the essence of the atmosphere of that time.

There weren’t that many black metal bands in existence at the time you recorded In the Nightside Eclipse. Were you enjoying the freedom of what was essentially a new art form, or did you feel restricted in any way by an ideology you felt you had to adhere to?

Samoth: I don’t think we felt too restricted. When we first started Emperor, we stripped everything down from what we were used to with our death metal outfit, Thou Shalt Suffer. Our aim was to go back to basics and sound like Celtic Frost, Tormentor from Hungary and Bathory . . . lots of Bathory! But as we got more serious with Emperor, we started to develop a more personal sound in addition to the obvious black metal influences. It was based a lot around the use of keyboards and the whole atmospheric and symphonic aspects. It became our thing, and we just took that further and further, really. But at the same time, it was very important for us to make sure we still maintained a certain spirit in the sound.

Faust: Black metal had existed for many years, but this was the second wave, and ours was the more symphonic black metal. We knew—or we started to realize—that it would be something different, but I don’t think we felt we were caught by any ideology because we pretty much did what we wanted.

Tchort: Black metal was still very new to me, and since I hadn’t been in the scene—I came from a death metal band—I didn’t know much about the ideology, so I certainly didn’t feel any restrictions. I understood the passion for atmosphere and even melodies that was put into the music, but besides that, I tried to play my part well and not be concerned about anything else.

Ihsahn: We were so young, and we had no idea what kind of impact this whole thing was going to have. I suppose now black metal has become a world-renowned phenomenon, but at the time, it was so small and so totally underground, we were just occupied with trying to do our best. I mean, I know Pytten used a lot of big reverbs, so it all sounded very majestic, which is maybe how he interpreted it. For In the Nightside Eclipse, we also kind of built further on the use of keyboards to try and give it more of an orchestral feel.

Not many other black metal bands were using keyboards very extensively back then.

Ihsahn: Yeah—I think that came from when me and Samoth played in several bands prior to Emperor. We used keyboards in [Thou Shalt Suffer], so that kind of developed into a more progressive death metal. At the time we did the first Emperor EP, we wanted to use some layers of keyboards, and that kind of evolved on In the Nightside Eclipse—but even on that record the keyboards are very simplified, compared to later releases. At the time, there were no bands using keyboards in the same fashion.

Faust: Emperor and Enslaved were the only bands with guys who could actually play the synth and the piano. Up ’til then, all the use of synth in black metal had been made out of very minor knowledge of the instrument—just mak- ing the easiest chords and stuff. But Ihsahn and Ivar from Enslaved were able to create good melodies on the synth and use it as an instrument along with the guitar and bass and drums. I remember people in other bands would see Ihsahn and say, “Shit, this guy really knows how to play the synth.” It wasn’t really that common back then, so I think we realized that we were a lot different from bands like Immortal and Burzum, who played a very primitive kind of black metal back then.

Tchort hadn’t been in the band very long at that point.

Faust: Tchort replaced Mortiis, who was kicked out or asked to leave in the beginning of 1993, after the recording of the mini-album.

Samoth: After Mortiis left, we played without a bass player for a while, and then actually Ildjarn [who had been in Thou Shalt Suffer] played bass for us, but that didn’t end up being anything permanent. I think we hooked up with Tchort during the winter of ’93 [early ‘93]. We left for our first tour in June, which was the U.K. tour with Cradle of Filth, and by that time he had already been with us for a little bit.

Tchort: I felt comfortable with the band and its other members, especially since we had just spent two weeks together touring in the U.K., but recording the album and being in a professional studio was a new experience for me. I had only recorded a demo before that. I didn’t have more than a handful of rehearsals before we went to the U.K. to play—and then we went straight to the studio.

Ihsahn: [Laughs] When we went to the U.K. to tour with Cradle of Filth, they were our support act!

The album was recorded in July of 1993, but wasn’t mixed until the following year. Why the delay?

Faust: Well, basically because half of the band ended up in prison. I was arrested one month after the recording, as was Samoth, who was released not long afterwards. My charges were a bit more serious, so I stayed in prison and didn’t take part in the mixing. I wrote down my point of view on a piece of paper for them to take into consideration during the mixing, but it was mostly about the drums and stuff.

Samoth: There was a lot of stress that fall with Bård and I being arrested and taken into custody. I was, however, let out again some few weeks later, but Bård didn’t come out until nearly 10 years later. Fucking crazy, eh? There was a lot of turbulence within the scene around this time, and this pushed the whole thing back quite a bit. I believe that Grieghallen was also booked for a while, so we had to wait. Eventually we found the focus and got studio time booked for the mix. It was just Ihsahn and I who went for the mix; I remember us sleeping in a rehearsal room in Oslo, and taking the early morning train to Bergen. I believe we gave Candlelight all production parts by late fall of ’94. They had it pressed in ’94, but it didn’t really reach most distributors and shops until early ’95, so that’s why many see it as a ’95 release. It was a very frustrating time, as we lost our drummer, the stable lineup, and the whole Norwegian scene was in turmoil and we weren’t really sure what lay ahead for us as band. But in retrospect, I actually think the whole delay of the album made it an even stronger release. We sent out advance tracks to a lot of friends, and the tracks spread around the world and created a great expectation for the release.

Tchort: I also remember Ihsahn was sick during the recording of his vocals and he was spitting blood during the sessions. He did some vocals that were replaced with new vocal recordings later on—when he got better—so I think that contributed to the delay as well. They had to go back to the other side of the country to redo the vocals and do some more keyboards. He probably couldn’t do any clean vocals when he was sick, either.

Bård, were you nervous about getting caught by the police while you were record- ing the album?

Faust: Not really, because a lot of time had passed [since the murder], so I didn’t really think that much about it. I think it was a bit of luck that we were able to finish the recording before both Samoth and I got caught.

Varg Vikernes killed Euronymous shortly after you finished recording In the Nightside Eclipse. He also lived in Bergen. Did you see him often during the recording sessions?

Tchort: He came by and we spent some time at his apartment, too. I think I took a shower there and used his bubble bath. [Laughs] The killing happened later on, but I can’t recall exactly when Euronymous was murdered.

Samoth: It was just weeks after we returned from the studio that all hell broke loose in Norway. It’s weird to think about, really. If all the controversy with the police had happened a little sooner, this album would have never been made and the future of Emperor would probably have taken a whole different turn. We went to see Varg several times during the recording sessions. Even though we knew there was some tension between him and Euronymous, we didn’t really involve ourselves in that and didn’t really think that it would come to such extremes only weeks later. I have a classic memory of Varg stopping by the studio in his chain mail and standing in the recording room enjoying a huge ice cream with a smirk on his face.

At what point did you decide to dedicate the album to Euronymous?

Samoth: Sometime during ’94, I’m sure, when we pieced together the artwork for the album. It was natural for us to do so, as Euronymous had always been very supportive of what we were doing and he was also a friend of ours, especially to Bård. He wanted to sign us to his label, Deathlike Silence Productions, but we had already done the mini-album with Candlelight and made the decision to stick with them.

Ihsahn: I think it felt very natural at the time, since he was so recently deceased, and we were releasing an album at that time. Bård was working very much with Euronymous at [Euronymous’ infamous record shop] Helvete, so it felt right at the time.

Faust: Yeah, I reckon that I was the one closest to Euronymous. I worked in his record shop and also at some point lived together with him. I think it was a consensus some time after the murder when things finally started coming down to ground again. No one thought about not dedicating the album to him. It was the most obvious thing in order to commemorate his memory.

Where did you pose for the photos on the back cover?

Faust: Apart from Tchort, I think they were all taken outside of Samoth’s place—in the woods—but at different times.

Tchort: My photo was taken at a local cemetery. I was later arrested because I stole that stone angel with the blood covering it and placed it in my bedroom.

Ihsahn: I remember there was no Photoshop or anything like that at that time. If you look at my photo, there’s this dark background, and that was a very manual cut and paste. I’m cut out with scissors and glued onto a different back- ground. I think it was the same with the goat in Samoth’s picture. We had to be very handy at that point—we didn’t have all the technology that people have today. We took our own photos, too—we didn’t have any contact with photographers or designers, you know? Things are almost too easy these days.

How did you decide on Necrolord’s cover art?

Samoth: I’d seen some of his work, like Grotesque’s Incantation mini-LP and Dissection’s The Somberlain, and liked his style. This was before he took off as an artist, I guess, and before long, every black metal album had a blue-toned art piece as a front cover. [Laughs] Originally, an ex-girlfriend of mine had tried to draw something for us, and from that we had a sketch of the tower that can be seen on the cover. Later, Ihsahn and I pieced together a bunch of ideas, [including] the tower and incorporating the death rider from the first mini-album, and we sent that to Necrolord. He did an awesome job and totally got our ideas and the vibe we were looking for at the time. I think to this day it stands out as a classic black metal album cover.

Faust: I thought it was fantastic—the perfect visual for the music—even though today it might seem a bit cheesy. It’s a little bit mysterious, and maybe a bit Lord of the Rings.

Which song holds up the best for you personally?

Ihsahn: I think both “Cosmic Keys” and “I Am the Black Wizards” hold up well still—especially “I Am the Black Wizards,” which was popular from the beginning. But usually my favorites from the albums we’ve made have hardly ever been the same as everybody else’s. I think my favorite from this album is probably “In the Majesty of the Nightsky” because it has some musical elements that I feel were very well thought out for the time.

Samoth: Actually, I think the whole album holds up still. Of course, songs like “I Am the Black Wizards” and “Inno a Satana” have both gone down as “classics,” but the whole album has a very real and natural flow, I think.

Faust: I think “Inno a Satana” is the perfect black metal hymn. That track manifests itself as the personification of symphonic black metal. I think it’s a really, really good track—it’s what constitutes symphonic black metal for me.

In the Nightside Eclipse is the record many people would consider the first fully realized symphonic black metal album.

Faust: Yeah, I think it’s the first album that consciously tried to make black metal symphonic. Ihsahn has always been very good at orchestrating music, and I think that everybody who has a relationship to symphonic black metal always points back to In the Nightside Eclipse as maybe the first album that inspired him or her to start making that kind of music. That’s a huge compliment.

How long after its release did you realize the influence/impact it had?

Ihsahn: I remember the first time we went on a European tour with Bal-Sagoth. They were actually older than us, but they said they started playing more black metal–style music—with keyboards—because of the first Emperor EP. We felt that was a bit strange, but later on we were in England and we met the guys from Cradle of Filth, who claimed that In the Nightside Eclipse was the album that everybody had. But the impact Emperor, as a band, has had on this black metal scene—and to some extent extreme metal—has been most noticeable after we quit the band. But I haven’t given much thought to how influential we were, or how influenced we were by others, or any of the more superficial aspects of it.

Tchort: I am still to this day overwhelmed by the impact the album seemed to have on the scene. I travel more than ever now, with my bands [Green Carnation, Carpathian Forest], and in the darkest and most uncommon places of the world, I meet with people who approach me and tell me how much that album means to them.

Samoth: It wasn’t really until after [1997’s] Anthems [to the Welkin at Dusk] was released that we started getting a lot of front covers and bigger media attention, and then Emperor really started to become larger and taken more seriously in general. Looking at Nightside, I think there was a lot of buzz and hype about the album even before it came out—with advance tracks spreading around the world, there was a lot of anticipation in the underground about the release. When it finally came out, it quickly became an album that led to a lot of influences in the growing black metal scene—or black metal boom, rather.

Faust: I corresponded with Samoth while I was in prison, and I had access to magazines and stuff, so I saw that black metal was growing bigger and bigger. The album sold very well, and I saw that people were inspired by it, but I’m not sure I realized how big Emperor were before I started to see the tours they did and things like that. I was a little bit hidden from all that attention when I was in prison, so I didn’t really see or understand it before I started to come out again on weekends to meet people and go to gigs again. I think it was in 1998 that I had the possibility of actually going out, but it wasn’t very often—maybe six times a year or something for 12 to 24 hours. I was given that opportunity because it’s a part of the Norwegian prison rehabilitation program. I remember going to a Dimmu Borgir gig in Oslo in 1998, and it was packed with a lot of people and young girls who I wouldn’t really imagine going to a black metal show. That’s when I saw how big it had become.

Do you feel differently about the album now than you did at the time you recorded it?

Ihsahn: At the time we recorded it, I was of course very proud of it. By the time we did a couple of more albums, it’s always like you wanna go back and change things you think you could’ve done better. [Laughs] By now I feel like that about all our albums. But I see it as a product of that time, where we were musically, and how old we were. It makes me feel like an old man at times, because it’s such a long time ago, and there are so many kids coming up these days that have the album, but were barely born when we recorded it. But I’ll be 30 in October, so I guess I’m not that old.

Tchort: For a period of time, I didn’t like it so much, mostly because of the production. But I’ve probably only heard it three or four times since it was recorded. The last time I heard it was earlier this year, after a show I had done with Carpathian Forest. There was an after-show party and I was lying on a couch when they played the whole album, and it struck me that I really got a kick out of the music. And I got that old vibe again . . .

Faust: Well, I do realize that if it was released today it would be a very cheesy album, but that’s something you can’t take into consideration, because it was recorded in 1993 and released one and a half years later. I don’t really listen to the album anymore—it’s been many years since I actually put it on, but I can appreciate the moods and atmospheres in the music and I can understand that a lot of people like it because it was a very good album at the time. But for me, today, there wouldn’t be any point in trying to re-create that album or to establish a band to continue in that vein.

Samoth: The album was something totally fresh for us when we were in the middle of making it, but today I see it almost in a historical sense—as a part of my life that also had great impact on how my life has become today, actually. We didn’t really know that we had made a groundbreaking album. We knew it was a good album that had something personal and unique to it in our genre, but we never really saw it becoming one of the classic black metal albums of all time. Even saying this now is weird, but it makes me really proud of what we managed to put together. We took our music and everything around it very seriously. Those times were very special. We were quite young and very active in a rather obscure underground movement. It almost seems like another life looking back at it now.

1. Erik Ekdahl

- Born 10 June 1975, Gothenburg, Sweden. He is an only child.

- Started playing viola when he was 4 years old but soon his interest moved toward acoustic guitar, he was 6 years old at that time. Few years later after listening to KISS and Iron Maiden - a music that changed his entire life - he started playing electric guitars when he was 11.

- His first guitar was an Ibanez RG550 and later he bought a Jackson rr24 Rhoads with his own money. He continued using that until now(1998).

- Attended the University of Gothenburg, but soon he dropped out(1995) with a dream of making his first metal band. Due to his decision he had a lot of fights with his parents and eventually left his home.

- His first band’s name was Moonchild, a symphonic metal band, and he was also a guitarist in that band. But its genre didn’t suit him and he wasn’t satisfied with the quality of the music so he decided to disband it(1996).

- Wandering around for 2 years, having some part time jobs and sleeping in an abandoned car, he saw the notice about Skwisgaar and Tobbe’s band by chance and decided to join the audition.

After Skwisgaar’s departure(2004)

For a few months he was totally wasted. He tried to contact Skwisgaar one way or another but kept failing, and it made him more and more fall into depression.

Eventually, he decided to leave the band(2005) and thought he should sublimate his feelings into music - so he created a one-man DSBM band called Viva la Vida(2007), using his stage name as W. Although his band drew excess attention to listeners and achieved pretty much success, he refused all show suggestions and all interviews at that point.

In 2012, his parents accidentally died in a car crash. He heard that news from his friend and had a small funeral with his friends, but didn’t invite AP members(He didn’t want to show his weakness). After their death he started getting into some kind of old norse religion, so he stopped Viva la Vida(2013) and made another side folk music project called Heimdall. 2. Natalia (Nana) Berg

Childhood (5-14)

- Born in Rio de Janeiro,Brazil-december 20th 1975.

- Natalia was "made" as an accident by two young adults who didn't feel like wearing protection at a party. her dad was a Swedish tourist , and her mom was a stripper.

- When she was born,Nana lived with her mom till she was 5 in a messy shack in the slums of the city. but she was taken from her after many neighbors report loud crying and screams coming from their house, her mother used to leave her child alone for days to attend funk balls/parties without leaving food or anything for them.

- She was forced to move to Sweden to live with her dad, who was mostly an emotionally absent man,whom Nana would be homeschooled by until they turned 14 and were registered into an actual school.

- But before they were even attending classes, Nana already had a fascination for bugs from any shapes and sizes, and used to play with those in their father's backyard, sparking their interest in biology.

Adolescence(14-18)

- Soon after Nana starts to attend school she starts to get bullied by her classmates for being a quiet(mostly non verbal) and ‘’weird’’ kid,which made them completely change their personality to become more defensive but that only made things worse,as now they would constantly get into fights with her bullies.

- Towards the ending of their highschool years, Nana began to date a guy she met in biology class, she didn’t know how to differentiate between platonic and romantic feelings and ended up accepting his offer to date him.

Adulthood(18-20s)

- like 2 years go by,and Nana at some point realizes she didn’t like him that way, but couldn't bring himself to break up with his partner as they are now living together after their dad kicked them out for coming out as queer.

- And while dating this guy, Nana realized their talent for music and they would sometimes do some gigs here and there to pay their rent. She would sing while her partner would play guitar.

- After saving enough money to move out and finally breaking up with their boyfriend,Nana moves into a shitty apartment next to a bar,in which he would perform almost every night,singing some cheesy and moody blues.

- This goes by for almost a year and a half until he auditions for agnostic Priest as the vocalist.

Skwisgaar leaves and AP breaks up.

- After trying to keep everyone close and failing at it,Nana loses contact with his old friends and goes back to Brazil to get a new start at life. with the money they got while being in the band he’s able to buy a good new house in a good neighborhood.

- Things where going great,he goes to a good university(UFRJ) and starts studying biology like he always wanted to,though he still misses working in the music industry.

- Until he decides to get drunk in the middle of a Carnaval,blacks out,and wakes up in someone’s bed.(9 months later he has a VERY UNEXPECTED surprise!!!)

- Finally after such a long time,Nana gets her biologist degree and decides to contact their old friends again to try for one last time to get everyone back together,luckily this time it’ll work out.

- (They never really moved on completely,just avoided thinking about it all the time.)

FUN FACTS

- Fluent portuguese and swedish,a bit shitty at english,sometimes he’ll forget words and curse in portuguese until he figures out how to speak again.

- Was terrified of thunders as a child,never grows out of that.(the nights where Ocelot sleeps with him helps him chill out in case it’s raining)

- Really wants a pet snake.

- Might not be the best at giving advise,but will def listen to a dear one vent and comfort them.

- Has trouble opening up to people,even those he’s close with.

- There’s bug bites literally all over his body.

- If they’re angry at someone or just wants them to shut up he just stares at them without saying anything until the person gets uncomfortable.

- Forgets to eat for hours until he starts to get a bit dizzy.

AFTER AP

- Kept contact with Skwisgaar for a few weeks until they were asked not so politely to leave him alone.

- considering top surgery after their baby grows up a bit

- Gains a bit of weight,which makes them happy

- Still uses the friendship bracelet Ocelot made him years ago

- Damn i still want a pet snake.

3. Torbjørn “Tobbe” Sørensen

- Born 9 September 1974 - Aarhus, DK. Oldest of 3 children (a younger sister and brother).

- Pretty normal childhood. Parents had an amicable divorce when he was 5 and both remarried. Tobbe and his siblings spent time with both sets of parents evenly.

- Began piano lessons at 7 but wasn't really into playing the classics like Bach and Beethoven. He was good at it despite being bored and continued playing at the urging of his parents.

- Got into hard rock and heavy metal around age 12. He tried learning both guitar and drums for a few years but had no patience for it. In the early/mid 80s, he realized that keyboards had a place in hard rock and heavy metal through artists like Van Halen, Yngwie Malmsteen, Nocturnus, Faith No More, etc. He swapped his piano for a Korg Krome and began learning lead guitar solos on the keyboard.

- Dropped out of high school at 16 (1990) and moved to Copenhagen with a group of friends who wanted to start a band. They had limited success and performed local gigs at small venues. Spent some time living in a VW van.

- By age 19 (1993), their band had broken up. Tobbe moved to Gothenburg which had a bigger metal scene in hopes of more opportunities to advance his musical career. He played as a session guy with limited success until meeting Skwisgaar in 1995/96(?) and beginning to record demos.

1998

- AP releases its first studio album.

- Current (1998) equipment: Korg Krome 88 key workstation.

- Other musical abilities: Classical piano. Occasionally does backing vocals. Can play very basic chords on an acoustic guitar.

- Current (1998) musical inspo: Jesper Strömblad (In Flames), Stian Aarstad (Dimmu Borgir), Janne Wirman (CoB/Warmen), King Diamond (Mercyful Fate)

2004 - Present

- 2004: Tobbe and Skwisgaar's argument leads to Skwisgaar leaving the band. Tobbe immediately cancels all remaining shows on their tour so the band can re-group and plan what to do next. However, they never find a replacement for Skwisgaar.

- 2005: After Erik leaves, Tobbe officially dissolves AP and ends their contract with the record label. He disappears back to Denmark and has no contact with his former bandmates for several years. He leaves the music industry altogether at this time.

- 2007: Starts one of the only long-term romantic relationships he ever has.

- 2008: He finally gets his student matriculation degree (basically a GED/high school diploma) and begins attending university for a tourism management degree.

- 2009: With social media becoming more popular, he reaches out to those of his former bandmates who he can find online with a long written apology message about how everything ended. However, he doesn't maintain conversations with anyone, still feeling guilty about everything. He marries his partner, which is probably a mistake.

- 2011: Divorces. It's not bitter but they don't stay in touch.

- 2012: Finishes his degree. After this, he moves around Scandinavia and the US for some time, unsettled and kind of aimless. Never really gets into a new career and just kind of works odd jobs here and there.

- 2018: Finally settles in Copenhagen to be nearer to his siblings and his nieces/nephews.

- 2024: Returns to Gothenburg after receiving Nana's call.

Misc. Facts:

- Languages: Danish (fluent/native), Swedish (conversational), English (conversational), Norwegian (very basic)

- He's been bleaching his hair fringes for years…perhaps the bleach has affected his brain…

- Doesn't really like doing interviews - especially if it's not in Danish. He gets nervous.

- His personality is pretty reserved and easygoing. Alcohol makes him come out of his shell a bit more, and on the rare occasion that he gets VERY wasted, he's like a totally different guy (loud and laughing at everything, flirtatious, etc.)

- Health-conscious and likes to be outdoors every chance he can get. Also loves exploring different cities when they have free time during tours.

- Keeps his private life separate from his rock star persona/work life.

- Skwisgaar was one of his best friends before… everything. :c

- Still visits his siblings and parents when he has time. They're quite supportive! His mom has a scrapbook with mementos from all their tours, interviews from magazines, ticket stubs, etc.

- His freckles are more pronounced after a lot of sun.

4. Ziggy

- Born May 29, 1980

- He is grumpy, introverted, and picky. He prefers spending time alone rather than socializing with others, valuing his personal space and time. He doesn't easily show his emotions and often appears aloof, but he is actually warm and sensitive inside.

- His favorite is Drum playing. He has been playing the drums since he was 5 years old and is highly skilled, excelling at creating fast and complex rhythms.

- His hobby is Collecting vintage records. Ziggy has a deep interest in music, particularly vintage records from the 60s and 70s. His room is filled with a carefully organized collection.

- He loves Spicy food, especially Buffalo wings. He enjoys eating spicy food to relieve stress.

- He hates Seafood. He especially dislikes food with a fishy smell.

- He prefers simple street fashion and mostly wears dark-colored clothes. He likes comfortable yet stylish outfits, often seen in black T-shirts and jeans.

- He lives with his parents and an older brother. His father is a mechanic, his mother is a nurse, and his brother is studying engineering in college. Though he gets along with his family, he spends a lot of time alone.

- He has a black cat named Shadow. Shadow is a close companion who understands Ziggy's introverted nature.

- He dropped out of high school after finishing middle school. He attended an arts high school, majoring in music, but left to focus more on actual music activities.

- He listens to Rock, punk, metal. He enjoys playing and listening to aggressive and powerful music.

- His favorite stuffs are Drums, particularly his vintage drum set. This drum set, inherited from his grandfather, holds great significance for him.

- He has a small circle of close friends. He dislikes large groups and prefers deep conversations with a few trusted friends. His best friend is Erik, the band's guitarist.

- He avoids Crowded places and parties. He feels uncomfortable in noisy and crowded environments.

- He loves video games. He particularly enjoys arcade games and often spends time at a local arcade.

- Most Cherished Item: Drumsticks inherited from his grandfather. These sticks are a source of inspiration for him.

- He hates Rude people, noise, overly cheerful individuals. He prefers serious and quiet atmospheres.

- His dream is to become a famous drummer and tour the world. He wants to move people with his music.

- He is actually emotional and sensitive, though he rarely shows it. He struggles with expressing his feelings, which can make him seem cold at times.

- He's fluent in English and has trouble with speaking Swedish but he's perfect at body language so it doesn't matter.

5. Ocelot

(CW: Physical and verbal abuse, drug addiction)

Pre-band - Present (1998)

- Born on August 29th 1976 in Gothenburg Sweden. She was the youngest of four, though with a fifteen year age gap between her and the nearest sibling

- Was generally a pretty outgoing, loving kid up until the teenage years when they started getting verbally and physically assaulted by her parents

- Moved out swiftly the day she turned 18, leaving to Germany for a few years

- Made some friends there and that's when they realized they were a lesbian. It's also where they found their passion for music and was introduced to alternativae bands

- In 1997 she moved back to Gothenburg to hopefully patch things up with her parents, which didn't go well

- Soon after breaking up with her girlfriend she met Tobbe, who practically picks her up off the street. She was one of the last members to join the band in 1998

Post Band

- When Skwisgaar leaves in 2004 Ocelot quickly descends into a deep depression, though trying to pull herself together and keep the band going. She never openly talked about it or expressed it

- In 2005 when everyone breaks up she attempts stability, failing miserably

- From 2005 - 2012 she spirals into a major drug addiction, mainly downers, becoming heavily reliant on heroin and pain killers.

- In 2013 she meet someone who helps her back on her feet and forces her into rehab where she makes a full recovery. She begins focusing on music again and attempts to reach out to her old band mates, though mostly failing

- In 2015 she's broken up with and that sends her into another deep depression where she ends up in and out of homelessness and desperately attempting to not slip into old habits

- 2020, as the world fell into disarray, she gained an emotional dependency on weed

- When Nana reached out in 2024 she was quick to respond and more than happy to regroup

- Wears little cat ears because she thinks they're cute

In the few months that Ihsahn had been around, he had found his footing. He started off very nervous, and stuck very close to Audie. But all had changed the day that Ihsahn had found a pair of fans in a shop. With Audie's help, Ihsahn learned that the traditional dancing fans were imbued with wind magic, and learned to use those wind magics in addition to his fire moves.

As Ihsahn and Audie walked around Alstroemeria, the latter looked over at the former. "It's good to see you getting a bit out of your shell."

The Salazzle smiled. "It's partly thanks to these fans. I was really into fan dancing when I was younger. I practiced a lot on my own, with big leaves." Ihsahn paused to chuckle. "My parents always made fun of me for it, but... It feels good to be able to express myself. And that's thanks to you."

"So this is where you went... Vega..."

Ihsahn and Audie both turned around, and the Salazzle froze, and his smile disappeared, seeing a Salazzle and a Salandit. "Mom... Dad?"

"That's right... You mistake. Thought you could just run away from us and hide? You knew we'd be back." The Salazzle said, looking directly at Ihsahn.

"N-No... You can't..." Ihsahn stuttered, then moving to hide behind Audie as tears streamed down his face.

"What? Don't hide behind your stupid friend!" The Salandit shouted. "Face us head on!"

Audie's eyes lit up blue, and his white rings began to glow brightly. "Hey... Leave him alone. Is it not obvious to you that he wants nothing to do with you? And his name is Ihsahn, not Vega!"

The Salazzle pointed at Audie. "You don't speak for him! We know what's best, so we speak for him!"

Ihsahn grit his teeth, and stared directly at his mother, who then scoffed at him. "Oh... Finally ready to face us, you freak?"

"Shut the hell up!" Ihsahn grabbed hold of his two fans, and unfurled them both. "I... Am so tired of you. Of you belittling me... Of you wishing I was dead, just because I'm a male Salazzle! Who cares? Just let me live my life!"

The Salandit smiled. "What are you going to do to us? You wouldn't dare lay a finger on us before... Why now, Vega?"

"My name... Is Ihsahn! I've found people who love me, and I don't need you!" Ihsahn's fans seemed to grow in size, causing his parents to recoil slightly. But as they turned to run, they bumped into Audie.

"Oh no... You two will want to stay for this." He said, grabbing hold of the Salazzle and Salandit and turning them back around to face Ihsahn.

"Get out of my life!" Ihsahn wound his fans back, and stared down his parents. "Issei Ougi..." He then threw his fans forward just as Audie jumped out of the way.

"... Sai!" Ihsahn watched his parents get caught in the spinning fan, which then closed and knocked the pair out. He breathed heavily, closing his fans and placing them at his hip, then walking up and spitting next to them. "Good fucking riddance..."

Audie stared in disbelief at the Salazzle, before tapping his shoulder and pulling him in for a tight hug. "Ihsahn... I'm proud of you for standing up to your parents."

Ihsahn stood silent for a second, before returning the hug and burying his head into Audie's neck and crying. "It's thanks to you... For giving me a chance... And making me feel welcomed. You and Solaris are a better family than they ever were."

"I'm glad to hear that. I'll talk to Solaris, see about making you a singularity like the rest of us." The Espeon then broke the hug off, and looked at the unconscious lizards in front of them. "I'll throw them in the local jail."

Ihsahn sighed and smiled. "No. Allow me to."

"Are you sure?"

"Yeah... It'll give me some final closure. I'll be sure to tell the warden everything they've done to me. Keep watch on the town. That's what's important." The Salazzle unfurled his fans once more, holding them at his side.

Audie chuckled. "You got it. Again... I'm so proud of how far you've come."

"Thanks... I owe it all to you... I'll see you soon." He said, giving a wink to Audie as he covered himself and his parents with both fans, which then disappeared into blue butterflies, leaving Audie by himself in town.

BABY NAMES, PART I

- okay, wether you guys want it or not, here are the names with their meanings found on websites and what i imagine some of the babies to look like! but i will never name them in the works so if you do not like these names, you can replace them for whatever you want, i would actually love to hear the names you guys think they would like or your thoughts on these that i chose! i know i am not all that great with names at all but i tried to pick nice ones and ones i think actually fit the father <3

PELLE “ DEAD ” OHLIN

dad! pelle has a daughter named calliope ohlin and a son named casper ohlin…

- calliope means “ beautiful voice ” from greek κάλλος meaning “ beauty ” and ὄψ meaning “ voice ” in greek mythology she was a goddess of epic poetry and eloquence, one of the nine muses!

calliope looks exactly like you! she has your hair, your eyes and just so many of your features, she looks like your twin! the only thing she inherited from pelle was his bone structure and that only really starts to show when she enters her teenage years! pelle absolutely loves this though, he thinks it was one of the major reasons he was able to open his heart to her so quickly after she was born, because she just looked so much like you… she was so undeniably your daughter, your child… whenever he looked at her soft face, looked into her gentle eyes, all he saw was a mini version of you, someone he knew he just wanted to shower in love and support, someone he knew he needed to protect…

casper is the opposite and looks exactly like pelle! he has his bright blue eyes, his blonde hair that only shines brighter in summer, his bony nose and a similarly indented chin! this is why in a similar opposite fashion, pelle felt it was harder to immediately bond with his son after the birth, he felt it was harder to open his heart to him because of how much of himself he saw in his son… how much she saw his younger self, how much he felt like he was looking into a mirror of the past! pelle was just so afraid of tarnishing your son, of somehow corrupting him and his happiness by simply being around him… because all he saw was his younger self, all he saw was the child so long ago that would soon run into so much cruelty and sadness in life! but of course, with a lot of support and reassurance from you that he would never hurt your son, that your son would only ever see him as his father, he was quick to open his heart to him too, just as he did for calliope…

as a father, pelle is beyond subtly proud of the name calliope for his daughter! he thinks it just fits her so well! he thinks she has such a creative soul, even when she was so young with her little messy finger paintings and scribbled crayon drawings, he immediately knew he had a strong creative and inspired soul… so much like him, as you say to him which always makes him blush and feel even more shy pride! and calliope is absolutely his muse, she became his muse right alongside you the second she was growing in your womb… he adored drawing you when you were holding her in your stomach and now, he loves to draw her as he sees her! every time he looks at her, he feels a rush of inspiration and a want to craft! both you and her are his muses, eventually his son too!

BÅRD “ FAUST ” EITHUN

dad! bård has a daughter named selene eithun…

- selene means “ moon ” in greek! this was the name of a greek goddess of the moon, a titan! she was sometimes identified with the goddess artemis!

selene looks almost exactly like bård but she does have a fair few of your features too! but when you look at her, you mainly see bård… she has his brown hair, his big brown doe eyes and his pronounced, naturally slightly pouted lips! she certainly got his height too! despite being a pretty short and petite child, she hit a major growth spurt in her teenage years and is just a little taller than the average girl! but when she was a newborn and toddler, she was definitely one of those chunky little babies! she had the chubbiest little apple red cheeks and pudgy arms, bård thought she was absolutely adorable and always claimed she just had to be the cutest baby in the world, she was too perfect to him! he loved peppering so many kisses to her chunky arms and chubby cheeks when she was a baby, he bathed in the glory that came with hearing her high pitched giggles and squeals as he did it, he could not get enough of seeing a gummy smile with just a few tiny teeth showing through stretching across her rosy red cheeks! it just manages to wash away so many of his insecurities, his fears that maybe he is not a great father…

when selene was a newborn, bård was very aware of the meaning of her name and got her a little astrology mobile to go in her crib instead of the usual sheep or animal one! not to mention how many glow in the dark stars and moons he stuck up on the ceiling of your shared bedroom in your apartment when her crib was in your room… bård thinks the name fits her so well, she is his treasure, his moon! when she is old enough to not choke on things, he buys both you and your daughter a matching necklace, both silver chains holding one half of a shiny moon! to be honest, a lot of his gifts to her in life, from the moment she was born, revolve around astrology and especially the moon! he is absolutely the type of father to fully support her childhood dream of wanting to become an astronaut!

older! bård definitely gets a moon tattooed somewhere in his arm sleeve tattoo, likely when she is in her teenage years! it is a beautiful tattoo dedicated just to his moon… he likely has a star tattooed somewhere on his body too but from when he was younger, it was one of his first few tattoos and it was dedicated you, his special star, the love of his life and mother of his child!

ØYSTEIN “ EURONYMOUS ” AARSETH

dad! øystein has identical twin girls named alva aarseth and audra aarseth…

- alva is the feminine form of alf! derived from old norse alfr meaning “ elf ” in norse legend this was the name of king, the suitor of a reluctant maiden named alfhild! she avoided marrying him by disguising herself as a warrior, but when they fought she was so impressed by his strength that she changed her mind!

✩ audra means “ storm ” in lithuanian!

both alva and audra just look like complete doubles of øystein, they look like factory made female replicas of him! sometimes you spend minutes studying their faces, trying to find any traces of your own genes in their appearance but you find very few… they have his natural blonde hair, his small button nose, his soft face and so on… they just mirror all of his physical features! and it only got more and more noticeable as they got older, especially in their teenage years when both decided they wanted to dye their hair black after looking at old pictures of their father! øystein went through a crisis in the early months of their lives, he liked to dress them identically because he thought it was funny to see double of his baby but the humour would quickly turn into panic when he realised he could not decipher who was who… that is why the both of you spend time stitching their names into clothes whenever they get new dresses or onesies! he does get much better at knowing who is who within a couple of months, he just found little ways to differentiate them! and that is when he finds it funny to dress them in the same outfits once again, seeing them in the exact same outfit, with the exact same ribbons in their hair just makes him laugh so much! øystein is also incredibly smug about how much they look like him, he is just so smug and proud…

whenever a storm rolls around, with rain hitting against the glass windows of your shared apartment, øystein likes to hold audra on his hip and stand in front of one of the windows, looking down at her as shadows of water droplets reflect inside through the window and against her curious face, watching with a small smile as her wide eyes follow the raindrops and her little hands grasp his sweater tightly… audra lives up to her name in two ways! one way being that she loves storms, she was never scared and afraid of rainstorms or thunderstorms! she always just wanted to sit at the window with her father whilst you built a pillow fort with alva! the second way being that she was an absolute storm of a child… she was hyper and rowdy, every time after playing, the apartment would look like a tornado had run through it!

VEGARD “ IHSAHN ” TVEITAN

dad! vegard has a daughter named violet tveitan…

- violet is derived from the english word violet for the purple flower, ultimately derived from latin viola! it was common in scotland from the 16th century, and it came into general use as an english given name during the 19th century!

violet is a very balanced mix between both you and vegard! she has your eyes but his frizzy and curly black hair, she has your nose but his mouth and an abundance of other little features… both you and vegard see the others features so strongly in her! he thinks she looks like your twin and you think she looks like his! the only thing the two of you can absolutely agree on is that your genes never stood a chance when it came to his hair! literally the second you told him you were pregnant, he knew that baby was going to have his hair, he just knew it! because the hair type is pretty particular and specific when it comes to care and washing, vegard likes to be the one to help her with it! he is more than happy to help you learn how to deal with her hair better too, obviously, but nothing makes him happier than sitting her on his knee and tying her frizzy black hair into little pigtails with little purple ribbons…

i feel like the name violet would come after a lot of thought with vegard, he was thinking about names every day right after you told him you were pregnant! but the two of you could just never decide on a name, nothing rolled off the tongue right before violet popped into his head when he saw you, late in your pregnancy with a very sizeable bump, wearing a deep violet maternity dress… he just thought the colour was beautiful on you, hugging your bump that cradled his baby… once the name was decided, ihsahn was determined to paint her already prepared wooden crib a light violet purple before you gave birth! not to mention how many little violet bows and outfits he buys for her with what little money he has… i feel like he would even switch his usual guitar picks to glittery violet purple picks just for her, to honour his little girl during emperor shows in the most subtle yet thoughtful way!

a slight bonus one here because i have not made his dad! headcanons yet but i wanted to include him <3

VARG “ COUNT GRISHNACKH ” VIKERNES

dad! varg has twins with the daughter being named vígdís vikernes and the son being named vidar vikernes…

- vígdís is derived from the old norse elements víg “ war ” and dís “ goddess ”

✩ vidar derived from old norse víðarr, which was possibly derived from víðr “ wide ” and herr “ army, warrior ” in norse mythology víðarr was the son of odin and grid! at the time of the end of the world, ragnarök, it is said he will avenge his fathers death by slaying the wolf fenrir

whilst vígdís and vidar are twins, they are not identical twins! they actually look pretty different from each other… surprisingly, vígdís looks more like her father whilst vidar looks look you! it turns into a kind of daddys girl and mamas boy situation too… at first, varg was not a super overly loving and father towards his little girl, it took him some time to fully open his heart to a daughter, took him a little while to allow her to practice braiding his long blonde hair with colourful ribbons! but he so obviously loves her, so obviously loves both her and his son! he softens a whole lot and almost entirely drops the front he was putting up of being a headstrong and ignorant guy! when he sees how happy it makes her to be able to play with his long hair and feels his hands braiding her hair, it is worth it… it is beyond worth it for him! with vidar, i think varg would really want him to toughen up and be a manly man, even as a child but that is extremely quick to drop too! especially when you tell him it is just… really not okay, that it will only upset his son and feel like he can never be good enough! he drops all of his bullshit after a good talking to from you because deep down all he wants if for you and his children to be happy…

no one in this world can convince me that varg would not want to name his twins some really norse names, some really strong and kind of uncommon names! he spent months during your pregnancy reading through mythology and history books, looking for meaningful names, unique names… he wants names that highlight their norse blood! even if you, their mother, yourself are not… i have no doubt in my mind that he would have at least two songs inspired by their names, made for them! the first majorly soft thing varg did towards your son was buy him a little wolf plushie from a store! it is kind of ironic considering the mythology lore behind vidar and fenrir but it was cute nonetheless and the first bit of major affection he showed towards him when he was still a baby!

an easy answer for how they would react: the bully > meat grinder feet first > ice cream with you and their child after the job is done > rinse and repeat if another incident occurs with their child, they simply do not care <3

okay but let me actually go into this a little for you because ah! i’ve missed your guys’thoughts in my ask box hehehe! i’m gonna say the kids would be pre teens or early teens in this because middle school is always where i see the most bullying!

dad! pelle would be a very mixed bag of emotions because he just knew this would happen, he knew it would happen and he blames himself so much… he is so angry and upset at himself for not being able to protect her from everything… even when your daughter was so small and innocent, he feared that her teenhood would become like his, riddled with such cruel people and loneliness but you always assured him that you, both of you, would not let that happen to her… and now it is, he knows it is no matter how much she tries to hide it with her fake smiles and obvious lies about how school is going great! he is so quick to act on what he sees in her, so quick to jump into action and sit her down one day, trying his absolute best to get her to really open up to him about how she actually is and just what is happening… you likely stay out of this, letting him get the truth out of her due to just how familiar he is with what she’s facing, offering love and support from the sidelines to both of them before and after their chat… when your daughter falls asleep later that night after opening up to him about everything going on, she falls asleep in your bed in between the two of you just like she used to when she was so small all those years ago, wanting nothing more than to be cocooned in her parents love! pelle will lay awake for a bit after she falls asleep, letting you reach a hand over to stroke his and comfort him… making sure he knows he did nothing wrong and there was nothing he could have done to prevent this, that you guys will let her stay home until this is sorted and speak to her school in the morning or even let her move schools if she would prefer it but that slight disappointment and anger in himself will stick with pelle for a little bit, just until he sees your daughter begin giving those beaming, real smiles once more… he just needs to see that she is not sinking into a pit as he once did before he can fully feel better… if he was younger, he would probably go about leaving dead animals on the kids doorstep but he’s older now and as much as thought might slither into his head, he knows it isn’t the right way to go about it and knows it might just make things worse for your daughter…

dad! bård goes fucking insane, sorry not sorry! he is the type of dad who you literally have to physically stop from killing someones child because they fucked with your child… i can really see him having a super shy and insecure yet passionate daughter, he knows exactly what that is like and will not just sit by as she lets people walk all over her out of fear, out of being too much of a people pleaser to ever actually speak her mind! absolutely not, it just will not happen with his baby, his little treasure, his absolute pride and joy! just as any attentive and caring father would, he immediately clocks a sharp change in her usually shy yet bubbly attitude, noticing her grow more reserved and even more quiet around you guys when she would often delve into passionate yet soft rambles about things she was up to! he hears how silent she is at the dinner table and watches as she keeps her head ducked from the two of you… listen, if he cannot fight the kid bullying his daughter, he deadass wants to fight their parents because holy shit they raised a kid who thinks they can just walk all over his babygirl like that? they clearly did a terrible job and need their brain knocked back into place or something… bård is absolutely the type of dad to pull his baby out of school immediately until this shit is sorted out, taking you and your daughter out every day to wherever she wants to go, wether it be to get some ice cream or take a walk in nature or even just go shopping for whatever she wants to buy! but he will let you push him to leave you at home for at least one of these days, letting you tell him that maybe it would be good for the two of them to just have a daddy - daughter day and who is he to say no to that? especially when he knows his little, or not very little anymore, girl adores and looks up to him so much…

dad! øystein also goes insane but in less of a violent way and more of a strategic yet petty way… he just wants to completely ruin the lives of everyone involved with that kid, wants to fuck with them so badly and make their lives hell as revenge for his baby… maybe it’s a cliche but with twins, it’s like one is popular and the other is more of an outcast lone wolf, i can see that being very true for his twin girls! one ends up becoming pretty popular and well liked in school whilst the other becomes kind of lonely and often picked on for no particular reason! øystein absolutely hates this, it is just so… stupid to him! i think he would be kind of, just slightly, disappointed in the other twin for not helping and looking out for her sister when in school! he definitely sits her down and asks her why she never helped or told you guys, quickly getting beyond confused as she explains just how complicated school is now… he cannot remember it being so trivial and split up when he was a young teen… do not be surprised if you wake up one night and find euronymous sitting in the kitchen drinking a coke and flipping through same papers which hold just about all of the dirt he could possibly find on the kids family…

dad! vegard is the most logical and levelheaded one, to be honest! obviously, he is insanely angry and upset to hear that his child is going through something like this but he really knows how to keep his head and just get things dealt with to make life better for his child, to make them have a happy teenhood and make sure they do not have to go through bullshit like this! vegard will very calmly go to see the head of her school in person, speaking slowly and remaining as civil as he can be whilst he very obviously, but slyly, threatens the school with legal action if they do not sort their shit about as soon as possible… i feel like your child would actually open up to him incredibly quickly without him even needing to prod at them much, he just has that warm and comforting dad feel to him, so welcoming and not judgmental at all… after your daughter let’s so much out to him, he lets her just fall asleep in the midst of a tight hug, lets her fall asleep in his arms and does not even attempt to move until you come up from behind him and tell him he cannot sleep on the couch and to at least take her to bed, which he does! carrying her as if she weighs nothing and tucking her into bed just as he used to, planting a soft kiss on her frizzy hair that mirrors his before he leaves…

so, yeah! i really just think they would all be pretty similar in how they want to deal with the situation but different in the ways they actually deal with it! either way, all of them are beyond upset that this is happening and show so much love to their babies after it all comes to light, not that they did not before! they just show extra love now, really making sure they know how adored they are by you guys, how loved they are

TEETHING

about to go to sleep but i was thinking about how some of my favourite men would handle seeing their baby go through the teething process because i think some would definitely handle it way worse than others… obviously no one likes to watch their baby cry and not be able to do much to soothe the pain but i just think some of them would take it especially bad and just be so sad… sorry for any major spelling errors or anything here, super tired but wanted to get this out lolol…

i feel like the ones to handle it the worst would absolutely be dad! bård and dad! pelle… like urgh! they would just feel so beyond helpless and useless, being completely unable to really do much to relieve the pain their baby has just absolutely destroys the already little confidence they have in their parenting abilities, makes them feel like such terrible parents and they almost always want to cry right alongside their baby because of the stress, lack of sleep and general sadness from not being able to help more than they already have! they sort of just run around like headless chickens through the whole teething process, eye bags and migraines growing by the day as they constantly get new ice chew toys from the freezer, refusing to sleep and let you look after the baby when you tell them to rest, knowing they wouldn’t even be able to get to sleep if they tried because of the worry consuming their mind! they almost hand you the baby but only because their insecurities were making them believe maybe your baby would be in less pain in your arms, that maybe they are doing something wrong and somehow hurting the baby more but they quickly throw that idea out of the window when their baby tightens a chubby fist around their long hair, as if sensing their idea and refusing to be out of their arms, so they instead just bring them closer to their chest, holding them tightly

it really does not matter how much you try to comfort them about how they’re doing all they can for their babies, they just cannot help but feel like total failures, as if they are just letting their babies feel all of that pain and not even trying to help which could not be further than the truth! when the teething process is over, they will need a good sleep, finally being able to even think about getting some peaceful rest without being kept up by their screaming baby and worry clouding their minds but they will want to get their first sleep with your baby on their chest… just in case some pain suddenly comes back… just so that they can go to sleep smelling the scent of your babies hair and know that they are safe in their arms…

but i think dad! øystein and dad! vegard would surprisingly handle their babies teething quite well, at first they would definitely be a wreck with worry and stress but over time and after much reassurance from you that they are literally doing all they can, they would eventually just accept it and do the most they can do to comfort their babies, making silly faces down at them or blowing raspberries on their skin and peppering kisses on their chubby red cheeks, kissing their tiny tears away as they whisper softly about how the pain will lessen soon and they are doing so well, being so strong! just doing all they can to comfort and distract them from their pain

obviously, it does affect and upset them to see their babies so in pain and hurting but they just do not let it get to them, not after you have assured them that they are doing all they possibly can! they really do know that they have to be calm and collected, they have to be strong for their babies to help them through it, they have to hide their worry and just try to distract their babies, try to make them flash a gummy smile and forget their pain if even for just a second… and do they let their babies chew on their fingers if needed? well, obviously! all whilst cracking some jokes to you about how you might just have birthed some kind of vampire baby…

either way, all of them stay absolutely stocked the fuck up on ice chew toys… dad! øystein and dad! vegard bought way more than you even ended up needing before the teething process even started in preparation whilst dad! bård and dad! pelle bought too little than you needed because they did not realise just how bad the teething process would be and had to go to a small 24hr store in the early hours of the morning to buy many more on the first night <3

hehehe, oh gosh! anon, i wish i could say that i am sorry but i am not… i am not sorry at all… those pictures had to be seen and i would be a horrible person had i not shown them to you all!

his buzz cut era is definitely up there with my favourite eras of every single person in the black metal scene, he just looked so damn good! and the fact that those pictures of him looking so gorgeous were taken in my home country makes it feel even more special to me lolol! you have been infected with the buzz cut vegard era as i have been for a long time now…

the little piece of lore i have created for his buzz cut is that his super young toddler daughter that he has with you kept grabbing and pulling at his long hair, she kept getting it all tangled up when trying to braid it and so on… absolutely no one prepared vegard for just how strong a toddler can be so he just goes for a buzz cut until she gets a little older and stops trying to rip his hair out! he knows his hair grows back pretty quickly anyways and he let you buzz his hair for him in the bathroom of your shared apartment on an early morning whilst she was still sleeping comfortably in your bed… it is safe to say that she was definitely not all that happy at all when she woke up and got her first peek at his temporary new look! you know those videos of babies crying at the sight of their father after he shaved his facial hair? yeah, that is exactly what happens with vegards daughter except not because he shaved his facial hair but because he shaved his beautiful long hair… she has a complete toddler meltdown filled with wet tears and high pitched wails over it and just does not really recognise him at all for a little while, he feels absolutely horrible for the rest of the day as the two of you softly try to explain to her that all he got was a haircut! vegard will continue to feel terrible up until she eventually comes around and just wants cuddles from her papa to make her feel better :(

obviously even you were a little apprehensive to the idea of buzzing his hair for him too but you can never really say no to his big eyes and his slight smile, no matter how much you would miss his long curly hair for a short while… but it is certainly safe to say that your slight displeasure did not last long because as soon as you finished buzzing his hair for him and watched as he brushed some hair off from his naked shoulders and chest, as soon as he turned to face you with an ever so slightly confident smirk painted on his lips, you were an absolute goner to his new look and did you perhaps get insanely turned on at the sight right then and there in the bathroom? did you lean up to press a heated kiss to his soft lips whilst they were still turned up in a little smirk? did the kiss turn more intimate as your tongues invaded each others mouth? did your hands begin to wander as he reached behind you to quietly close the bathroom door? did he take you right then and there against the porcelain white bathroom sink whilst muffling his low moans against your neck? maybe… absolutely… definitely… you would just really need to get used to not having those long and gorgeous curly locks to tangle your hands into for a little while…

BAKER AMONG OTHER THINGS

- just had a really random thought but i had to get it out there… listen, october just makes me so fluffy for some reason! do not question me :P

dad! vegard is absolutely the type of man to learn how to bake for you when you crave baked good when pregnant with his baby! he takes it deadly serious, using your cute little apron to protect his band shirt from getting tattered with flour, tying his frizzy hair back to keep any from getting in the batter and wearing an oven mitt… well, he only started wearing the oven mitt after burning his hand something fierce during his first time baking for you

you started craving a really specific and expensive brand of cookies, no other cheap cookies he had bought for you fulfilled your craving! you needed those specific ones! but because you guys are pretty young and kind of broke with a baby on the way, he could not keep buying packs of those high end cookies… so what better to do than pick up baking as a new hobby of his? be it just to please your very pregnant self…

he spends every bit of free time he has of every day trying to perfect the recipe for you, his first few attempts were truly terrible with the cookies either coming out burnt to a crisp, raw inside or tasting like complete crap but eventually, after many failed attempts and very dramatic crying from you about how badly you need these cookies, about how badly his baby is making you need these cookies, he gets there! he perfectly copies the recipe of those high end cookies and he could not be happier, he almost jumps through the kitchen ceiling in excitement and complete pride when you take a bite of one of the cookies and moan in pleasure around the crumbly baked treat, mumbling through a full mouth of cookie to him about how they are perfect, how they taste exactly like the ones you crave if not better…

does he particularly enjoy being woken up by you at ungodly hours of the night? looking up at you with sleepy eyes and messy hair, quickly waking up more and panicking slightly when he sees your eyes glistening with wet tears and your hand resting on your sizeable bump as you look down at him before sighing with relief when you mumble to him about how you just really want some cookies right now, his cookies? i mean, maybe he does not exactly love the lack of sleep and sudden rude awakenings but he could never be mad at you, not when you sit on a chair at the small table in your apartment kitchen to much on the cookies when they are done, not when you use one hand to cradle your bump and one to shove cookies into your mouth, not when he gets to lean over the table and wipe some cookie crumbs from your mouth, not when you offer him a cookie and laugh quietly as he just leans down to you and lets you slide it into his mouth for him! really, these late night baking sessions only make him fall even more in love with you, only make him even more excited for your child to be born so that he can bake for them in the future too
