I want it on record that I am a proud member of Team "Gabrielle Benele is Completely Unhinged."

This may be a rather lukewarm take, as I don't have as much interaction with the Daggerfall Covenant side of the ESO fandom, but I'm convinced that, like myself until a couple years ago, neither has anyone that has ever earnestly considered her a voice of reason.

Gabrielle is that one character that people assume is put together at first glance because she's intelligent and professionally accomplished, but that perception completely shifts as people gradually discover the laundry list of borderline war crimes she's used those smarts to commit.

Her canonical claims to fame include, with no hyperbole applied:

Singlehandedly breaking into a cult-infested crypt for a talisman rumored to open portals to Oblivion.

Gleefully hacking the warding sequence on one of the most secure vaults in the Covenant and openly admitting that she'd wanted to take a crack for some time upon learning it was named the "Impervious Vault."

Getting banned from the Anchor's Point Inn for setting fire to the hair of a pushy dragonknight who failed to heed her rather upfront request to stop hitting on her (easily the most understandable point on this dissertation).

Losing "teleporting directly to the Evermore Mages' Guild" privileges for a reportedly similar incident.

And, most unnervingly of all, sending a treatise to Covenant generals advising the displacement of beasts and beastfolk in enemy territory to send them rampaging into local settlements as an invasion tactic.

Ya gurl may have more outward tact in professional settings, but there's absolutely no way her dynamic with Darien doesn't involve him reigning her in ethically as often as she reigns him in conversationally. These feral besties are two halves of a whole common sense and I love that for them.

A noble from Glenumbra and the mistress of King Casimir of Daggerfall. Sabrina had little interest in combat nor politics until she was kidnapped by the Worm Cult and became the Vestige... in which she still prefers to persuade/intimidate her way out instead of fighting. Not because she is a good person, but simply because she prefers a life of indulgence and laziness.

Elder Scrolls Online: Devana Wildspear

Reachman | Daggerfall Covenant | Stamina Necromancer

Devana Wildspear often prowled the rugged terrain of the Reach with the primal grace of a she-wolf, her senses attuned to the faintest evidence of prey. Born into the Wildspear Clan, she was raised to revere Hircine and embrace her Lycanthropic nature as a sacred gift. Her clan honored Hircine through ritualistic hunts, their prey slaughtered and presented to the Daedric Prince of the Hunt as an offering. With each full moon, Devana would transform into a fearsome werewolf, her howls echoing through the ancient forests as she stalked her chosen quarry.

As the years passed, Devana found herself yearning for a challenge worthy of her abilities. As a Lycanthrope and a skilled reach-witch with a talent for necromancy, the hunts orchestrated by her clan had become predictable, their prey too easy to track and capture. It was during one hunt, targeting a group of scholars and mages that dared to venture into the Reach in search of scholarly pursuits, that Devana’s fate took an unexpected turn. As one of the captured mages attempted to escape through a portal, Devana was inadvertently pulled along, finding herself stranded on the Isle of Balfiera.

Confined within a cell, Devana's first instinct was to unleash her fury upon her supposed elven captor, demanding a means to return home. As she listened to her plea for aid, however, a new curiosity stirred within her. Perhaps there was new prey to be found on this unfamiliar island, creatures unlike any she had encountered in the Reach.

Venturing further into Balfiera, Devana soon found herself facing off against Daedra, twisted creatures of Oblivion that tested her skills like never before. Though the hunt was perilous, it reignited a fire within her, reminding her of the thrill she had once felt when stalking her prey in the wilds of the Reach.

When her journey led her to Glenumbra, within the Daggerfall Covenant, Devana was initially reluctant to involve herself in the affairs of outsiders. But as she witnessed the chaos unfolding in the region, suspicions of another reachman clan's involvement piqued her interest. Though she harbored no loyalty to the Covenant, the prospect of hunting and killing their enemies appealed to Devana's primal instincts. With a newfound sense of purpose, she pledged herself to their cause, knowing that each foe she faced would provide an opportunity to prove herself as the ultimate predator, a Wildspear of unmatched skill and ferocity.

I'm going live in about five minutes! Going to start the Betnikh questline and see how far we get.

It's not only the best faction, I am fully convinced it is the default faction either because it was the developers' favorite or because they thought most people would gravitate towards it for whatever reason. Or maybe they simply wrote Coldharbour with a Covenant Vestige in mind.

Sure, some AD and EP characters are running around Coldharbour too, like Telenger or the Vanos siblings, but everyone who sticks with you until the end (aside from Vanus) is introduced on DC territory. EP and AD folks used to wander in there having no idea who Gabrielle and Darien were. Also, Laloriaran who? Pacties and Dominion babies won't have the slightest idea who that is. Meanwhile, neither of their "Vestige's bestie" NPCs (Naryu, Raz) are there.

This was likely even worse when you couldn't just wander off into another alliance's territory before reaching Cadwell's Silver/Gold.

So yeah. Coldharbour was designed for the Daggerfall Covenant and I don't know if that was a massive oversight or deliberately done.

I have a lot of thoughts for it, but I will ALWAYS die on the hill that Daggerfall Covenant is the best faction to start with (and then do AD for silver, and EP for Cadwell gold) because It Just Works the best
