he smiled at me this morning!!!!!! several times!!!! he still looks confused and alarmed immediately after smiling lol but he’s definitely figuring out how to do it. and his little expressive face looks so joyful when he manages it 😭😭😭 gosh I love my little baby so much. ALSO I don’t want to jinx it but he has now slept through the night for a full week (8:30pm-7am). we usually have one little hiccup between 5-6am where he wakes up and fusses for a bit but he doesn’t act hungry and will go back to sleep if I give him his pacifier. I think this week I might try not giving him the pacifier right away to see if he can get himself back to sleep on his own. anyway what a nice little baby. he is down for his first nap now and I am lying in bed listening to the rain :)

his sitter is coming at 2… here’s what I need to do before that:

read for 30 min

shower

take down dishes & bottles

clean up kitchen

maybe clean out fridge

take out trash and recycling

tidy bedroom and make bed

start laundry

while she’s here:

pack Q returns (with shipping label)

walk dogs if it stops raining

call PT to schedule

prep for student mtg

update and submit JE rec letter

if I get done with this stuff early I can write for a bit!

3:30-4:30 student mtg (I am really struggling with this kid sigh I gotta spend some time thinking about how to approach this)

Ok, that stings, but you do love Arthur and at least you have your work to focus on. You get cc'd on a message from your second close pal and it says you WILL be attending a celebratory dinner. Yeah, to celebrate your dream girl saying yes to Close Pal #1. Ok, whatever, you're a man of honor. You go. Girl falls ill. Close Pal #1 says hey man, please go medically examine my fiancee - yeah, the one that rejected you. I know it'll be weird but I insist. Please man, you're my Close Pal. Ok. Fine. This girl is still important to you. You do it. You're sitting by said Ill Girl's bedside, trying not to think about that embarrassing time when you sat on your hat, asked her out, and then got rejected, and then her MOTHER walks in and goes wow, dude, why don't you have a wife yet? You and the girl Do Not Look at Each Other Dear God Lucy Do Not Make Eye Contact With Me Right Now I Swear to God. Girl gets sicker. You phone a friend. Your friend comes and promptly breaks the ice with your Mortally Ill Dream Girl (who rejected you after watching you sit on your hat) by being like Well, You Know Jack. He Doesn't Know Anything about Women. Probably Why He Sat on His Hat and then You Rejected Him. Christ. Mortally Ill Dream Girl dies and you find yourself enmeshed in Horrors Beyond Your Comprehension and you think, well, ok, at least if I'm focused on the Horrors Beyond My Comprehension I won't be thinking about my tragic and thus far very embarrassing love story. Let me just focus on picking up this nice lady from the train station because she and her husband have some important information for us. And then the FIRST THING OUT OF THE NICE LADY'S MOUTH is Oh Yeah I Know You Lucy Told Me How You Sat on Your Hat and Then She Rejected You. Ohhhhhhh my god

slightly tougher night but we had some smaller victories around extending sleep windows a little longer (currently trying to teach him to soothe himself back to sleep when he’s not acting too hungry, just fussy). but he’s being super snuggly and cute right now so yknow. newborn tradeoffs. today is the BIG DAY for new baby arriving!! so we are mostly hanging around waiting for that. here are the things I’d like to do today:

bf for 30 min

wash bottles & formula pitcher

10 min tidy of the downstairs just focusing on resetting the space in case my brother & SIL come over for dinner later

10 min tidy of the upstairs

change sheets and duvet cover (we had a Spit-Up Incident this morning)

fold laundry and maybe start new load of laundry if I can find the will

walk the dogs—I have been doing short 20 min walks because it’s a lot to wrangle two dogs and a stroller, but carrying this giant boy in the carrier hurts my back on longer walks. however I really want to build back up to 45 min/day!! I might try doing 20 min with both dogs + boy in the carrier and then 25 min with pip + boy in the stroller. we will see.

ok this easy list of tasks feels a bit overwhelming lol so let’s see. I’ll do 15 min of lying around and scrolling now then I think I’ll get dressed and do the walk while it’s nice and cool out… get it over with early. then shower! then feed the boy! then tidy?? we’ll reassess then lol.

Fun fact: after his evolution was reversed, Nuzleaf started having to shave the patches of Shiftry mane that would still grow on his head. However, shaving is only really done in the Pokemon World as part of certain medical procedures, and is unheard of as an aesthetic practice. Despite all that, Hero is an expert on it! This is confusing to literally everyone. Especially the gal herself, who has no clue why she’s got such niche expertise.
