Meat King

According to legend, Meat King once had a voice and a real face. Did he don a mask? Or is his head cursed to be rubbery and unmoving?

The capricious Meat King spends more time sneaking about in the mortal realm than hanging around his fallen domain of delight. He can appear anywhere: outside your house, in your walls, in your bed. But despite acting (and looking) like a royal creep, it doesn’t seem like Meat King means any ill will. Most of the time, he wordlessly procures and offers the greasy, salty food native to his emptied kingdom. Meat King was probably deposed because of this alarming behavior – especially his tendency to pull this stunt on unsupervised children.

A trickster by nature, Meat King is nonviolent – besides the occasional sportsmanly boxing match. Meat King is a sucker for a competition. When he’s not foisting food upon unsuspecting strangers, Meat King makes appearances at sporting events across the planes – although sightings have diminished over the years. Meat King prefers winning people over to fisticuffs, and he’ll employ his numerous means of escape before resorting to combat.

The tales of Meat King abound with nervous whispers. “His powers stem from a nameless magic ring.” “His shadow moves of its own accord.” “If a child draws Meat King on the wall in great detail, he’ll appear.” “His truename is Kurger Bing.” Truth is, Meat King is just lonely and strange, not nefarious. (Still, you can never be too careful.) He was abandoned by his creators and court for "failing to provide a consistent message." Ironic, considering the Meat King is mute. Since being ousted with no replacement, Meat King’s domain fell into disrepair. Now he’s just desperate for people to swing by, have some grub, and hang out.

Meat King’s Magic Meals. When a creature consumes any food Meat King has magically summoned, roll a d20. On a 1 or 20, they sprout a magnificent handlebar mustache regardless of age, sex, or species.

Unnerving Presence. Any creature that starts its turn within sight of Meat King must succeed on a DC 13 Wisdom saving throw or be frightened until the start of their next turn.

Actions

Multiattack. Meat King makes three punch attacks.

Punch. Melee Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 8 (1d8 + 4) bludgeoning damage.

Magic Ring. Meat King twists his magic ring.

The Magic Ring can teleport Meat King and 4 other willing creatures within 10 ft to his domain in the faerie world.

Unfortunately, the Magic Ring only functions as a one-way trip to Meat King’s kingdom. Usually, Meat King has used his daily plane shift to travel to the mortal realm.

The Magic Ring also grants Meat King a d8 for his unarmed strikes (included in attack).

Magic Trick. Meat King targets up to 4 creatures within 15 ft. All these creatures must have line of sight on him. Meat King performs a silly magic trick. Targeted creatures make a DC 13 Wisdom saving throw. Creatures Small or smaller – or any creature considered a child for their species – roll with disadvantage. Any creature that Meat King has harmed in the past 24 hours automatically succeeds on this saving throw.

Creatures are unimpressed with the King’s magic tricks if they succeed. They are immune to Magic Trick for 24 hours.

On a failure, the targets are charmed for 1 hour, as charm person. Creatures charmed in this way assume Meat King is friendly; they accept gifts from Meat King, and willingly follow Meat King to his faerie kingdom. The charmed also feel hungry, with a particular hankering for rich, salty food.

Legendary Actions

Meat King can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature's turn. Meat King regains spent legendary actions at the start of his turn.

Cast a Spell. Meat King casts one of the spells in his repertoire.

Magic Trick. Meat King performs a Magic Trick.

Pump Up. Meat King wordlessly inspires an ally, demonstrating his flawless technique through pantomime and shadowboxing. For 1 minute, a nonhostile creature that Meat King can see within 30 ft can add a d4 to attack rolls and saving throws. Only one creature can benefit from Pump Up at a time, and Meat King can’t stack Pump Up on a creature. This effect ends if Meat King is incapacitated.

Summon the Subservient Chicken. Save vs fear as soon as The Subservient Chicken appears. Can’t use this Legendary Action again if the Subservient Chicken falls in battle. The Subservient Chicken uses the stats of an allosaurus (MM p79) with the following changes: Peck instead of Bite; Talons instead of Claw; and the Subservient Chicken shares Meat King’s Unnerving Presence ability (DC 11).

Disclaimer: I realize that Meat King’s Unnerving Presence directly conflicts with one of his keystone abilities – Magic Trick – which requires people to stay close. But taking away either of those features feels wrong. At the end of the day, I’m just trying to make silly yet functional monsters, not min/max everything. In a fight, yeah, that probably fucks Burger Meat King over. But I don’t see Burger Meat King as a combat monster. More like a weird social encounter or setup for an adventure, where he tries to buy your loyalty with tasty burgers.

I went to the rockwall gym for the first time in years..I mean every once in a blue moon I've climbed a random wall but I used to almost daily climb so this time I Went to an actual gym and it felt really good. They have really awkward hours so I don't think I can go as often as I'd like too unfortunately.

I started feeling like I had a scratchy throat last night after working on the above drawing and now I'm wondering if I really don't feel well or if its in my head because I'd like to go to the gym again.

I did finish a book! I finished The Cartographers by Peng Shepherd which was only just ok. I liked the ending of it but I felt like it took sooo looong just to get there I was ready for it to be over. I did binge the majority of Legends and Lattes last night. I have 7 chapters left and I am absolutely loving this book.

otherwise me and the spouse are planning an Easter weekend so I'll go out of town that way.

I'm also playing Elden Ring. I've been in Raya Lucaria for a while but I keep getting sidetracked and I'm pretty sure all I have to do is fight the major boss.
