Predict the Playoffs Prophecy Game: Round 1 Update

hello all!

before this years' playoffs began (and WHAT a playoffs they've been so far) i asked you guys to fill out my devious forms predicting the results of the playoffs. i traditionally do an update post-round 1 and post cup victory, so here's your first - congratulations to @lectrix, @twistedarts, @hikingintherain, and @coffeeandbows for being our leaders so far ! short breakdown beneath the cut

i usually try and balance out questions so each one can be as fair or difficult to guess as possible, but sometimes they have a pretty easy answer. the first q was "guess the winner of WSH/MTL" and most people guessed correctly

same with q2 -- guess how many games vgk/min goes to. most ppl (or, a plurality) were correct

for the car/njd series and the tor/ott series it got a little more finicky; these questions were "who will score the first goal of the series" and "who will score the series-winning goal" (i.e. the GWG of the final game) respectively. not a single person got either question correct. not an admonishment, just a bit of a laff. to be clear i also participated in this (because i test it before it goes out) and i was extremely terrible at it. just goes to show you can't always guess the guy who's going to score a singular goal

for the fla/tbl series, i asked you to guess who would score the most goals. there ended up being 4 players who tied for the lead -- matthew tkachuk, jake guentzel, sam bennett, and nate schmidt. i decided to award the "official" winner of this to tkachuk, because he both a) scored all 3 goals on a goalie and b) was on the team who won the series. however, anyone who guessed any of the other three players was awarded 1 point. this means that if you guessed tkachuk/guentzel you could walk away from this question with 4 points. 2 people did that, including our friend twistedarts!

landeskog walked away from that thriller dal-col series with an L and 4 points. impressive, and slightly above the most common answer, which i'm pretty sure was 3.

and finally, jordan binnington finished the jets/blues series with a respectable .901, and connor hellebuyck crawled out with an .830. if i were to have asked this based on which of all goalies in this series were to have the best sv%, it wouldn't be either of them -- eric comrie, who played two-ish periods in relief of hellebuyck, landed with a .923, the best of all three of them. but alas.

I dunno who needs or wants this, but I was doing some research for my outline and, well. If anyone wants or needs a full season recap of the Jo and Nate show, here you go:

September. 

9-24 preseason against wild lose 3-4 none of the big guys play.

9-25 preseason against vgk 3-2 win. Jo 1a. Nate doesn’t play. AT HOME.

9-28 preseason against the wild. Lose 2-4. None of the big guys play.

 October: 

10-1 preseason game HOME vs Dal. win 4-3 OT. Jo 1a. Nate 1a.

10-3 preseason game IN DAL loss 1-3. Jo does nothing.

10-5 preseason against VGK. 3-4 loss. Jo 2a. Nate 1g.

10-26 IN PIT. Lose 0-4. Sid scored the 4th goal. Nate had a penalty. Jo went -1 (Nate went -3).

10-29 IN BUF. Lose 0-4 AGAIN. Nathan got a 2 and A 10???!!! BUDDY WTF. MUST research. Jo -1.
