Something something about the Third Doctor and the fate of Tantalus. You're trapped in one place. Everything you want, that you once took for granted is right there in front of you, you can see it you can reach for it but you can never have it. You will never attain it on your own. Your fate is dependent on the mercy or cruelty of others and you hate it and you rage against it but you can’t do anything, your defiance is treated like nothing but a childish tantrum but you refuse to beg, you won’t get that desperate no matter how long you’re trapped here, no matter how low you’re brought down. You stand among humans and you look human but you’re not, you’re an animal in a cage with them and you’re the only one who can see the bars. Gnawing and hacking at them to no avail. And yet all you can do is wait and hope and try and fail in an endless loop until an outside force interferes to free you from your prison. The carrot and the stick. How does it feel to be on the receiving end?

- The Last Creature: The Brawnkle -

Wow, first week of the year and I am on fire with an idea.

So, this long necked being is known as a; Brawnkle (Bra-wn-k-le) They are an advanced species of creatures that mixes between cybernetics and the Burning Core.

Once a group of Hoodlites with a bucket/ barrel for a limb. These beings took to making advancements to improve their way of life and gain the upperhand against other Hoodlites. The hubris of meddling with their biology resulted in them becoming the way they are today.

Brawnkles share a consistent platform object that covers half of their bodies. Their bodies are elongated, making them taller. The platform has four chambers that holds the Brawnkle's main arsenal.

- The Power Gauntlets -

Each Brawnkle shares three wireless gauntlets. The Crab Pincer, The Mantis Claw and The Kong Glove. Each of these gauntlets will circle and distract its opponent. Baiting the victim to the right location. Thus, unleashing the Bolt Canon.

Often nicknamed as "The Lone Army" we're lucky that most of them prefer to be studious scholars instead of being dictatorial. Having said that, The Brawnkle are quite smug about their intelligence and innovation which can be interpreted by some as very obnoxious.

In actual life, the Brawnkles are mainly inspired by Doctor Who's; [The Daleks] and Lovecraft's [Great Race of Yith]

I've been on record stating that I am completely neutral on Universes Beyond, but there's something about setting specific mechanics that's so... uninteresting.

The funnest part when I think about other characters/settings is figuring out how to represent them within Magic mechanics so when instead of doing that WotC just designs mechanics for the product it doesn't actually feel like I'm seeing that setting represented with Magic cards.

This is, unequivocally, my favourite take on the Daleks I have ever seen. It's coloured my view of them going forward, it'll inform the very way I think about the creatures; the inspiring amount of thematic potential and worldbuilding in just two paragraphs is gorgeous.

Though their initial mutations were the result of long term nuclear war, it's actually an intense culture of propaganda and strictly enforced conformity policies that have kept the Daleks in their current state. Every Dalek undergoes surgery just after birth; not to mitigate the effects of irradiation, but to rid them of whatever is legally considered "imperfections to the Dalek form" (usually throwbacks to a humanoid body plan, such as teeth and hands) and physically ready them for their casing. Additional surgeries must occur throughout a Dalek's life to prevent them from becoming "rooted" - a painful, often fatal scenario in which the Dalek overgrows their own shell and cannot be safely removed. Not only does their homogeneity serve to reinforce their fervent belief in genetic superiority, but the resulting chronic health issues prevent insurrection; a Dalek's fear of losing access to regular healthcare colors much of their judgement, and most attempts at dissent end as soon as their painkillers run dry.

My Personal Rating: 6/10 I actually like them a lot, a lot a lot. I think they're great, and I feel for them considering they share a planet with the Daleks. It was also interesting to see different stages of their timeline in different episodes. And I think generally, they're rather pretty
