Dabi has been a more hands-off parent the whole time you have been living with him. It’s not because he doesn’t care, he just really doesn’t know how to do the whole father-figure thing, so don’t blame him too much.  

He knew that you were awake the night before the school year started but Dabi really doesn’t know what he should do.  

So, the next morning you leave for school without breakfast just to make sure that you wouldn’t throw up from anxiety.  

Somewhere in your mind you knew that there was nothing to be afraid of and everything would go okay.  

The whole day Dabi was anxious for you, and he did check his phone every ten minutes just to make sure that you hadn’t panic-texted him.  

When you got home you were exhausted. You had gotten some new friends, and all had gone just fine but it had been a bit too overwhelming, and all of your anxiety had taken all of your energy out of you.  

Dabi was looking at his phone when you came home, walking straight to the couch, falling face first. You kicked your shoes off and dropped your back bag before Dabi had a chance to say anything.  

“So, how was your day?” Dabi asked, trying to sound like he didn’t care as much as he actually did. 

Dabi waited for a response for a moment before calling out for you. Once again you didn’t respond.  

Dabi walked to you touching your head, to get your attention, only to see your eyes closed.  

He pulled a blanket from the back of the couch and covered you with it, before sighing and took his old place on the armchair.

Being in a relationship with the most unpredictable of the Salvatore brothers brings many surprises — some good and some not so much. Damon's complicated behavior is even more pronounced around you, even though he tries to "behave," so to speak.

You can keep Damon's murderous tendencies in check to a certain extent, but in the end, it's his nature and who he is, and that can't be changed so easily, if at all. He wants you to accept him, to love him for who he is, not to try to change him. Damon will resent you if you do, and that never ends well.

Damon is a caring boyfriend, even. He tries to be as attentive and loving as possible with you, even though his murderous impulses are still there and will never go away. He's a vampire, after all. And a vampire who enjoys killing, a sadist.

He always reaffirms with meaningful and affectionate words how much he loves you, how much he adores you, and that he'll keep you with him forever. Sometimes it feels like he's threatening you, but it's all in your head; after all, your boyfriend just loves you very much.

He's more possessive than anything. Damon sees you as his and doesn't like to share what's his. You should almost always be in his presence, as Damon gets slightly paranoid when you're away from him, and a paranoid Damon means an unstable and murderous Damon.

He gets jealous so easily it's ridiculous, and to be completely honest, Damon doesn't trust you that much. He's had bad romantic experiences, and trust is hard for him. He doesn't think you'll cheat on him, but Damon prefers to keep an eye on you and scare off rivals. You know, by killing them.

Still on the subject of jealousy, Damon won't be entirely comfortable if you're too close to his brother. He trusts his brother to a certain extent, but the Salvatore brothers' history speaks volumes, so he'll always keep a close eye on you when you're around Stefan.

If you're human or something other than a vampire or immortal, like a witch/wizard, Damon will want to turn you, and he will. It doesn't matter if you don't want to, he'll turn you anyway because he doesn't want to lose you, and it's his way of showing that he cares for you, that he loves you. You will be together forever.

Damon would love to take you hunting with him. Like a romantic vampire date, the two of you hunting your prey, and when you finally catch it, draining the poor soul of all its blood, you'll have more action at home, with a good drink and just yourselves, if you know what I mean.

Damon likes to surprise you, and this can be both good and bad, depending on your perspective. He likes to buy you gifts at will, after all, money isn't a problem for him. He always notices when you want something, even if you don't say it, and the next day he'll show up with the thing you stared at for five seconds.

Spontaneous trips are a common habit for you as a couple. Sometimes, Damon will simply put you in his car and drive away in silence, with some '80s music playing, as you leave Mystic Falls for somewhere else. It's moments like these that truly show Damon loves you, even without having to say it in words.

Damon has his moments of insecurity, and you're always the one to help him, reminding him that you're his, that you love him, and that you won't leave him. These conversations usually end in sex, but that's because it's a very common way for you to reconcile. Damon is much more into physical touch, like kissing, hugging, and sex, than words, so it's a form of love too.

If you tried to leave him, Damon wouldn't accept it. He's not the good brother, and he's thrilled about it. You're not going anywhere, and he'll make sure of that. Even if Damon has to lock you in his house, you won't leave him. And if you try, it won't end well for you. After all, if he wants to keep you with him, Damon is willing to hurt you to do it.

Nothing is off limits to Damon when it comes to you and he will do anything to keep you with him.

You'll both be out snacking on whoever you can find, and he loves it.

• He gets so possessive over you, not an unbearable amount, but enough that everyone knows you're off limits.

• Speaking of possessiveness, if you're a human and let him, he will gladly bite you. Not enough to drink your blood if you don't want him too, but enough to leave a nice mark so everyone knows your his. He loves seeing them scattered along your pretty body.

• If you're a human and a little weird, in a good way, I promise and later in your relationship offer him your blood. He might just get on one knee and marry you right then. heyy, of course I can do that for you. this might be a bit terrible bc it's my first time, but I'll give it a go! <3 18+ warning (kind of)

Damon's love language is physical touch. He's always trying to find a way to touch you. He gets super jealous if anyone touches you in some way, even if it's a simple brush of hands.

Damon worships you; he sometimes jokes around . If you walk into a room that he's in, he goes down on his knees and says soft words: 'my saviour'. If he gets horny (which is easily) he'll say 'I pray to be in you right now.' He's not usually the religious type because of how the church disgusts people like him but he'll definitely do a little roleplay in bed. ;)

If you and damon ever get into an argument he'll never break first because he thinks he's always right. He will definitely keep a grudge until you say sorry first. He'll hardly say it but if it's been too long and he misses you he'll say it just to kiss you. You're usually the one saying it first.

Damon would do anything for you; he'll travel the whole entire world to find something that you need because your his priority.

Damon worries about you every day, you're a mere human unfortunately. Thus, if any vampires, hybrids, werewolves or any other mystical beings try to kill you or turn you he'll protect you at all costs.

Damon thinks you're the most beautiful girl he's ever lay eyes on. Therefore, you occasionally catch him staring at you with a charming grin that makes your cheeks turn pink.

Damon made a vow to you that he'll never kill a human being again. Which is extremely hard for someone like Damon who's only way of living is to feast on mortals. Not even blood bags will suffice the hunger he has once he hears or sees a drop of blood. Hence, if his hunger is stronger you'll always try and give some of your blood to him even if he refuses multiple times.

Do you have any hc about Damon's season 1 powers? I'm especially interested in shapeshifter!damon. The whole concept is quite fun to imagine. Also why do you think he has these extra powers? Personally after the whole lily thing I like to imagine that Damon is an untrained heretic. Also a scenario where hos powers would be revealed to scooby gang and/or the mikaelsons.

okay, okay so. Prepare for a short essay. (Sorry)

Intro!! So, in the Vampire Diaries books, vampires have Powers (capital letter and all) that feature things like weather manipulation, shapeshifting, flying, elemental control, telepathy, I think they can see auras or sense other vampire's Power. The books and the show are only like barely related. A lot was changed to make the show. (The Salvatores' ages, for one--they'd been Renaissance era men who'd killed each other in a duel over, you guessed it, Katherine. A ton of characters had personality changes (show Bonnie is better, imo), and book Caroline was an antagonist, plus Jeremy straight up didn't exist, Elena had a v young sister. So on, so forth, everything ended up super different.)

The show started off a (teeny) bit closer to the source material, but sharply diverged, including getting rid of the Powers thing. Something about it being too supernatural???? in the vampire show??? idk might have to fact check me on that one think I read it somewhere random.

But, as we know, it's heavily implied, and outright stated in some cases in early S1 that Show!Damon has access to some kind of power. Controlling the weather, controlling animals (perhaps shapeshifting, but maybe just a connection), and a long distance kind of hypnosis.

What we know about it:

In episode 1, a crow is seen following Elena around. It shows up multiple times. In the car with Bonnie, at the graveyard, when she goes to the Salvatore House for the first time. The crow heralds Damon's reappearance to his brother. Stefan says, "Crow's a bit much-" which implies this is a Thing that he knows about. Damon replies, "Wait until you see what I can do with fog."

The very first scene Damon is in, the opening with the couple on the way back from some concert (i think) it's foggy. They mention something about it that implies it shouldn't be foggy, or that it wasn't previously. Like, "What's with all the fog?" At the graveyard, Elena sees a crow, then it starts becoming much more foggy.

Bonnie, at some point, touches Elena and says she sees a crow, some fog, and a man.

It's foggy when Vicki is attacked.

So. We've established those two things. Moving on.

There's that one scene where Damon is locked up and long distance compels Caroline to free him--i think after calling the crow into his cell and eating it to gain that strength? maybe--it's heavily implied because he fed on her they have a connection he can use to influence her mind without direct compulsion.

I'm sure there's other examples, but I can only watch so much of S1 at a time.

OKAY!! now that that's been established, time for the fun headcanon stuff.

Firstly, I also love shapeshifting!Damon! Tis good fun and it lets me project gender envy i mean it's a great metaphor about vampires being inhuman!! Yes! That! Nothing else ahahahahaha. Something something, predator's perspective, something something instincts. In the book Damon could turn into a large crow and a wolf. Highkey wish they'd kept the crow thing as more than just the occasional motif. It could have been so much fun!! Crow minions!!! Crow friends!!!! Crows bothering the fuck out of people he wants to annoy!!!!! Damon trades shinies and food for things!! Somehow always has a snack on him. Crow drama??? Just casually mentions weird lil bird rivalries. Crows are Smart! They are super social!!! They hold grudges!! They absolutely have Drama on par with Mystic Falls. It could also be played for angst; Katherine announces her return with with a bunch of bird corpses in the Boarding House. Damon, who is unsympathetic to human deaths could be visibly upset by this!! Also nicely plays into the 'likes animals but pretends he doesn't bc it's a weakness' thing.

Comes home and there is feathers in his hair, nearly blending in. Except, on closer look, they're positioned oddly, like they'd been growing from him instead of just settling there. Then he brushes them off or shakes his head and they fall away. Maybe Stefan notices he's a bit more prone to tilting his head at things to get a better looks. Is a bit more easily distracted/more prone to notice shiny things.

A crow follows Elena around and maybe she makes friends with it. Or a crow comes across Stefan having some angst fest in the forest and bothers him into a better mood.

I like the heretic thing!!! I also just think the Salvatore bloodline is magic charged bc it's a doppelganger line!! They've got Silas germs!! Maybe Damon is a little bit more psychic than he should be. Maybe his compulsions require less effort and his dream-walking is better than vampires twice his age!!! Mild telekinesis would also fit in with early S1 nonsense! moving doors to creep Elena out!

As for his powers being revealed... I mean. Suddenly he's more valuable to the Originals? Not as much as Elena was, but there would prob be more recruitment efforts than in canon. Plus, Kol would be more interested in him as more than a batting target. Klaus and Elijah may press the 'saved ur life thing' more. Hm... I guess it would depend on when in the show? Early seasons and it just makes him more a threat. Stefan maybe assuming he did something to a witch??? Later in the seasons and if he develops those powers it's fun to imagine him having to learn to use/control them + having to deal with increased need for blood to fuel them. If it was a matter of him keeping them secret, I'm sure the Drama will manifest with 'how could you not tell me!!' and so on and so forth. Technically speaking, I imagine it'd be put in the same place as Jeremy's medium powers. Brought up when needed. not entirely sure, may think on it later

heyy!! I had to through all your metas and I really love how detailed they are. Some I agree with, others not so much but love your efforts anyways.

Your Elijah metas reminded of a discussion I had with a mutual a while ago on a what if scenario. So basically the two of us were discussing our own hc on genderbent Stefan Salvatore and my mutual was a major Elijah stan and it had her wondering how would the two of them workout.

For the sake of this discussion lets call her Stefanie. And the scenario is if Stefanie met Elijah as before canon (the 20s?) and in canon but Stelena weren't dating.

The stuff that I am most curious about are :

Which one of them warms upto to the other first and what is it draws them towards eachother? What hobby do they particularly bond over?

What would be Elijah's reaction to what Katherine had done to her when she was human?

What personality traits about eachother would they adore and which one would they dislike?

Would Elijah be surprised that for the Ripper Of Monterey, she's the exact opposite in person, as vampires like that aren't often to come by? Would he have helped her blood addiction issues before Klaus popped up?

If it turned into a love triangle, would Stefanie really nope out considering what happened the last time it happened? And how would they really navigate Klaus & rest of the family + Damon?

Let's say somehow they managed to crossover to TO, how would things fall into place & what changes? Do you think they'd ever go three way relationship with Hayley?

Most importantly, would they be able to overcome their family/sibling trauma and go separate ways? I think Stefan(ie) has stayed away from Damon more as their relationship was openly antagonist vs the forced co-dependency with the Mikaelsons, so perhaps it's her who suggests and encourages it. Or do you think it's Elijah who does it first?

I've never really thought about Elijah and Stefan (or Stefanie) romantically. I think they may be too similar in all of the wrong aspects.

One issue is that neither of them are the pursuers in the relationship. As you pointed out in a previous post, it's a little strange for Stefan to have pursued Elena in Season 1. We don't see him like that for any other relationship. Caroline had to practically force him to admit he had feelings for her. And Elijah is the exact same way. Hayley had to nearly die before he even kissed her and then he still disappeared.

They both feel unworthy of love and even scared to let themselves care for someone given their histories. I could see a scenario where they had to work together for a common goal and become friend to lovers. But again, it would be a miracle for either of them to make the first move.

I think their main thing in common is their willingness to sacrifice everything for those they love. Unfortunately, TVDU didn't spend a lot of time developing outside hobbies for the characters so it is always difficult to say what they would enjoy doing together. But I guess for both of them, their family is their hobby. Elijah and Stefan(ie) both spent most of their lives attempting to reign in their brother. They would definitely bond over that.

I would have loved a storyline where Stefan(ie) was actually able to deal with what Katherine did. Especially, having someone that actually cares. Elijah gets very protective when he feels someone was taken advantage of or harmed by someone much stronger than him. Likely because of his childhood. I think knowing what Katherine had done would have been the nail in the coffin for any lingering feelings Elijah may have had for Katherine. I don't think he would harm Katherine, but would warn her to stay away and if she didn't listen it may become lethal.

They would both really appreciate the other's loyalty and trust. But this would also cause issues. Stefan(ie) would be loyal to Damon and Elijah to his family. Their families often were working in opposition of each other which would cause problems. Stefan(ie) would hate how logical Elijah could be. How he could reason away any terrible deed. Elijah would hate when Stefan(ie) would try to push morals. Elijah understood sometimes you bend morals for those you love, something Stefan(ie) did often, yet never wanted to admit it.

Going off of that, I don't think Elijah would be surprised by the Ripper of Monterery. Elijah's done his own share of killing. I also don't know how compassionate Elijah would be to a Ripper. The Mikaelsons never seemed to struggle with blood lust, even right after they turned. I think Elijah would not fully understand what it means to struggle since he had such amazing control over it. Now, he does have the whole Red Door scenario, but I've talked about how that is more metaphorical than a hidden ripper inside him. His killing was never because he lost control. Elijah didn't tend to have a lot of patience for people losing control. He would try to help, but there isn't a way to 'fix' being a Ripper and that would have been frustrating to Elijah.

I guess there could be a love triangle and they would all probably just fall into it since the show made all of these characters incapable of removing themselves from love triangles. But again, they would not navigate the families well. This is why I always say I can't get into cross show ships. The Mikaelsons and TVD gang were always meant to be enemies. Making them anything else cheapens all of the pain they've caused each other and honestly just forces the characters to be OOC.

Maybe if Stefan(ie) and Elena were never a thing and, as you said, Elijah and she had a relationship before all of the TVD events, we could have seen Stefan(ie) siding with the Mikaelsons, but I still think that would be OOC. Stefan(ie)'s entire life was devoted to repairing the damage of her past. She wouldn't appreciate the fact that Elijah wasn't trying to be a better person himself, he was only concerned with making Klaus a better person. But, again, Stefan(ie) was good at rationalizing doing bad things for those she loves as well. If anything, being with the Mikaelson family would definitely make her a worse person. Elijah would not have tolerated how Damon treated Stefan(ie). We already saw he didn't like how Klaus treated Rebekah and Damon would have the unfortunate reality of not being a Mikaelson to make Elijah hesitate.

I think a Stefan(ie)/Elijah/Hayley dynamic would be interesting. Stefan(ie) would definitely be the least dominate of the three. I don't know why but I can't see Hayley and Stefan(ie) getting along. Similar reasons as to why I think Elijah and Stefan(ie) would have problems. Hayley was very much like a Mikaelson, willing to justify terrible things in the name of family. While Stefan(ie) did this as well, she still maintained kind of a moral superiority (even if it wasn't super justified) and Hayley would hate that. She would constantly call Stefan(ie) out on it, pulling Elijah into the middle.

I would love to think that they could help each other overcome their familial trauma, because lord knows they both have a lot, but I don't think they would. They were both so stuck in it that they needed people who didn't have that same trauma to help. They could relate to each other but then they would both justify their codependency because "it's family." While yes, Damon and Stefan(ie) had more time apart than the Mikaelsons, I disagree that it was any less codependent. Anytime Damon showed up, Stefan(ie) dropped everything to take care of him. It's why Lexi tried to force Damon away. Because, even when Damon was torturing Stefan(ie) (ie killing Lexi), Stefan(ie) couldn't bring herself to push Damon away. When Damon wasn't around, Stefan(ie) was fine, but as soon as Damon showed up (cause that man could not stay away), Stefan(ie) fell back into their toxic relationship. Damon would get jealous of Stefan(ie)'s relationship and insert himself back into her life. Stefan(ie) wouldn't be able to walk away. Same thing with Klaus and Elijah. Neither of them could truly encourage the other to walk away because they know they wouldn't walk away from their own family.

Yandere Stefan who has you sign the deed of the house, and only invite him in. Not even Damon can now access his home, his brother is too much of a wild card to be trusted around you. He needs to keep you safe, right? So you won't be leaving there anytime soon.

Yandere Stefan who cooks for you. God forbid you hurt yourself with one of them knives, accidentally of course. He'll learn to be the best chef in the world, just maybe don't go into the kitchen unless it's to reheat leftovers. If anything happened to you recently, expect him to also cut your food for you for a while, still afraid of anything that could happen.

Yandere Stefan who insists on eye contact when you are talking. Everything stops around you two and he holds your chin. You would think he was trying to compel you with how he looks at you.

Yandere Stefan who only drinks from you on special occasions before you are turned, and never directly from you. He'd hold your wrist oh so delicately as he positions it over the glass for you, healing you up when it's filled enough. After you are turned, blood sharing is quite often, from the bedroom to just wanting a snack.

Yandere Stefan who is always dominant, even when you're on top. If you're riding him then his hands are on your waist guiding you up and down, setting the pace and holding you up.

Yandere Damon who is a little more sadistic and controlling in his dominance, uncaring if both you and him have to feel a little pain now to keep you together in the long run. This can include killing people you know, especially if its friends telling you to break up with him.

Yandere Damon who, despite preferring a vampire partner to a human one, will keep you human and malleable for as long as possible. Whilst, yes, compulsion would wear off the moment you die with his blood in your system, he doesn't need compulsion to persuade you. Lizzy has never felt more at home than with Damon. All you shipper bitches know about a romantic home, but nobody talks about this one.

Lizzy's familial home. Her parental shelter. Having both parents is a rare and unrelatable privilege in Mystic Falls, and she will never take it for granted, and lives in constant fear that this life will be gone tomorrow.

Lizzy, as an adopted Mikaelson, and very much welcomed in, still has that feeling she's always had when she realised she doesn't really look like anyone else in that family: I'm not a proper Mikaelson. Klaus has been quietly aware of Lizzy's tendency to get imposter syndrome about whether or not she's a Mikaelson, and has actually worked really hard to keep her grounded to the fact that she has a place with him, more than anyone ever.

That being said.

The first time Lizzy saw her dad, with the understanding that Damon was the one who helped make her, she realized she had finally found a bird with the same feathers as hers. Dark black hair, offensively blue eyes, nobody else matched up to her quite like Damon Salvatore and she has been in awe ever since.

She got the pretty girl gene from her mama though.

Damon is the most reassuring and safest place Lizzy could ever run to in Mystic Falls, she changes so drastically when she's around someone she can rely on for unconditional love, like she can with Damon. She sleeps better, eats better, handles stress easier, she can shake off a lot of insecurity and fears and anxiety because she doesn't have to live up to any expectations.

I kind of already talked about Stefan and Katherine and her relation to him all over the place in various asks here and there but I think I will use this ask to talk about how Stefan is Katherine's favourite person.

I do not mean- well yea just over all also but I specifically mean in regards to her BPD Stefan is her favourite person.

It's important to understand what a BPD's favourite person is before I continue to explain why that's true for Stefan.

When a bpd person has a favourite person, it means that they have emotionally and mentally latched onto that person. That person is a psychological need, a staple in their mental health. A bpd person's mood is entirely dictated by interactions with their FP. They can become so reliant on that person for everything from advice to a sense of self that they become borderline obsessed with them.

You have to keep in mind that as vampires/immortals the rules change a little for them and borderline behaviors can show differently in different people....

So with that being said this is why Stefan is Katherine's fp.

his opinion on her matters the most out of anyones. Damon can shit on her all day but if Stefan says something she isnt ready for, it hurts her and she lashes out. Aggressively. Sometimes violently because she has no emotional regulation and reacts to things impulsively when it comes to emotions.

she rapidly switches between happy and angry with him based on his reactions to her. She switches her tune several times when she was pretending to be his prisoner in the Salvatore basement. Going from "I never compelled your love, it was real and so was mine.." Very quickly to "I will kill everyone she loves WHILE she watches and I will kill HER while YOU WATCH." <- a statement carefully crafted to get a rise out of him because he hurt her.

she is literally experiencing euphoria when shes with him and hes not being a dick to her. Katherine is quite literally the happiest little doppelganger, and actually pretty damn well behaved when Stefan gives her positive attention. Any time he's nice to her you can SEE she is quite literally walking on cloud 9. She is so happy to be around him, and further more to be SEEN by him.

she risked her life to stick around and watch him the entire time she was hiding. She could not bring herself to stray far from him. She stuck around so close she was at the same speak easy as KLAUS at the SAME TIME as Klaus in the 1920's just to keep an eye on Stefan.

She is unreasonably possessive of him. Strictly born out of fear of losing him. She is clearly not above threatening people who get too close.

Stefan Salvatore has been her FP for like 147 years. And honestly I’d say even as the Devil he was her FP because she so aggressively dedicated herself to revenge on the MF gang for the way they treated her AND STEFAN was STILL her main focus.

He is the air she breathes, hes everything she needs to be happy, when she has his attention good OR bad shes so much more stable and collected. She just wants him. He’s everything to her. EVEN her favourite person.

It is rather unfortunate that he is her favourite person on top of the one she loves the most, because when your S.O is also your favourite person it can put a lot of stress on the relationship. Twice as much as just being in a relationship with someone who's bpd. Despite her poor coping mechanisms and zero emotional regulation, Katherine still loves Stefan more than anyone and if he were given the right tools to work with her, I think he'd do just fine.

alkfdjalkfjdsf okay okay so!!! In S1 he was very much playing a role. He was the Bad Guy. Except that was to mask his real mission. He was there to save Katherine. Tormenting Stefan and causing trouble in Mystic falls are also goals, but secondary to the first, more amusements than anything. He also probably spent literal decades planning out exactly how everything was going to go. Some of his decisions were absolutely for the Drama. Like. Taking a Founding Family Daughter to a Ball in the Lockwood Manor to Retrieve the Amulet-Key??? Dramaaaa. He didn't need to do that. (I mean part of it was def Bothering Stefan, but he really could have just gotten an invitation into the house discreetly at any point prior. There was time between the comet 'charging' Emily's Amulet and the night of the party.) It really just strikes me as 'This is The Plan.' one he's spent who knows how long thinking of. So he has a Role to Play. That role is romantic hero/vengeful lover. He's very set on that, plus I imagine he wanted to present himself as similar, but not quite the same as the man Katherine has once known. Being in Mystic Falls, he's deliberately portraying a version of himself.

This being a very rambling way to say that after he realizes his entire life was based off a lie, Damon goes back to--like yeah sure I'm generally guy-shaped--(insert someone repeating 'generally?' with confusion here)--but who cares about that??? This vampire has spent decades hanging out in every dive bar imaginable and a lot of them had been drag clubs and gay bars and sex clubs and every shade of what society demanded be kept away from the rest of them. Gender isn't even like. some unimportant human concept to him, it's also one humans Made Up that doesn't apply to Other Humans and some of them just enforce the idea of it. It starts off small, in the 'when did you paint your nails?' sense, then he just starts going, yeah this IS a woman's top, but I'm rocking it and I Can Kill You, i think that's more important than how good I look in this sweater. Boots with more of a heel to them, occasional makeup, just whatever he feels like at the time. Sometimes he keeps his original body but wears a skirt, sometimes it's ambiguously androgynous in the 'excuse me, ma'am--sir? sorry, uh, here's your coffee.' And sometimes it's oh those are very much breasts, but that is a men's shirt and his face has stubble. Very nice clothes, like he had tailored shirts in canon, it's the same here. Really nice tops and skirts and shoes. Makeup On Point, expensive stuff, subtle jewelry, Caroline is lowkey annoyed he has such good taste. and also keeps wanting to look through his closet. Throw in some shapeshifting and its 'Are you a man or a woman?' 'I'm a vampire. Sometimes I'm a crow.' 'But what's in your pants?' 'fangs.' Given how very small town 2009 Mystic Falls is, this does not endear him to some people and probably sets him further apart than he was in canon. Though, I do like to imagine that the Originals don't even blink at this and just take it in stride before going back to their Murder Plots. Elijah is particularly gentlemanly, and does all those automatic 'holding out his arm' or 'holding the door, or a jacket' gestures with no reserve.

At some point Damon replaces all the (he usually goes by he because he doesn't especially equate pronouns with gender and does switch it up occasionally but sticks with he/him and his original name bc that's what he introduced himself as and bc Stefan would Make It a Thing--more about Damon throwing away every connection to his human life than him being a jackass, i think, but) but he replaces the pictures of the original Salvatore Siblings in the town archives and basically invents a sister solely for the purposes of gaslighting people into thinking he's the Original Damon Salvatore's Vampire Twin Sister Who Assumed Her Brother's Identity. Elena has to actually ask Stefan if he has a sister, which he denies, except it was a confusing conversation which left her unsure if they actually had a sister at some point or not and Damon somehow convinces her that Stefan doesn't know the actual truth and that he's his own twin. (He was very bored between the post-Tomb Opening binge drinking and depressed episodes.)

i imagine if he wanted to keep up the Masquerade, but walk around town in a different form, he has an ID and backstory all set for a distant cousin on his mother's side. Stefan, stuck escorting his 'cousin' around town: please stop inventing Family Drama to talk about, you literally killed off any real family we have.

Gradually practicing until he can hold a full shift for as long as he wants and just disappears for a week to be a bird bc god knows the murders hanging around town are more fun than the people. Blood red lipstick and winged eyeliner and feathers nearly blending in with black hair. Eyes a touch too wide or irises oddly sized, dark blue nearly corner to corner. Spends a month breaking limbs oddly often bc he fucked up his bones and now theyre hollow even when he’s human-shaped. Maybe in this verse vampires are a bit wilder, a bit more connected to dark powers, and Damon especially so. Some others get stuck or can only partially adopt animal form, giving them a bestial appearance—and play their part in the myth of vampirism, the origin of some of the world’s stories.

Stefan can’t shift, doesn’t really have that talent and has none on animal blood, but when he isn’t maybe he can float a bit. Some murderous parody of Peter Pan—forever young and forever luring people away never to be seen again. (He could fly in the books, once he’s had more than animal blood. So could Damon.)
