Multi-spacecraft radio observations trace the heliospheric magnetic field

Solar flares accelerate energetic electrons that escape into interplanetary space, guided by the Parker spiral magnetic field, and are responsible for the generation of the interplanetary Type III solar radio bursts. With multiple spacecraft now in orbit around the sun, we are in a unique position of observing the propagation of radio emission through the heliosphere from multiple vantage points.

A recent study by Daniel L. Clarkson and others demonstrates that the magnetic field not only guides the emitting electrons, but also directs radio waves via anisotropic scattering from density irregularities in the magnetized plasma of the interplanetary space.

To study this effect across large distances in the heliosphere, researchers used observations of 20 Type III bursts between ~0.9–0.2 MHz from the Parker Solar Probe, Solar Orbiter, STEREO-A and WIND spacecraft that were distributed around the sun.

To reproduce the observations, the simulations have been made to follow radio-waves. The research is published in the journal Scientific Reports.

The simulations show that the radio-waves are guided by the heliospheric magnetic field via anisotropic scattering.

Assuming that the magnetic field guides only the emitting electrons while the radiation is weakly scattered cannot explain the directivity pattern in multi-spacecraft observations without invoking a much steeper curvature of the Parker spiral, the paper concludes.

Therefore, the emitted radio waves are also guided along the interplanetary field due to anisotropic scattering, affecting the radiation received by observers that are spatially separated around the sun.

The eastward deviation of the type III radio burst intensity with decreasing frequency (increasing distance) allows for the magnetic field to be traced to distances greater than that of the emitter path, offering a powerful diagnostic tool for space weather studies and a potentially wide-ranging diagnostic of the magnetic field structure of different astrophysical environments in which radio sources are embedded.

First Reading Genesis 11:1-9 The tower of Babel.

Throughout the earth men spoke the same language, with the same vocabulary. Now as they moved eastwards they found a plain in the land of Shinar where they settled. They said to one another, ‘Come, let us make bricks and bake them in the fire.’ (For stone they used bricks, and for mortar they used bitumen). ‘Come,’ they said ‘let us build ourselves a town and a tower with its top reaching heaven. Let us make a name for ourselves, so that we may not be scattered about the whole earth.’ Now the Lord came down to see the town and the tower that the sons of man had built. ‘So they are all a single people with a single language!’ said the Lord. ‘This is but the start of their undertakings! Second Reading Romans 8:8-17 Everyone moved by the Spirit is a son of God.

People who are interested only in unspiritual things can never be pleasing to God. Your interests, however, are not in the unspiritual, but in the spiritual, since the Spirit of God has made his home in you. In fact, unless you possessed the Spirit of Christ you would not belong to him. Though your body may be dead it is because of sin, but if Christ is in you then your spirit is life itself because you have been justified; and if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, then he who raised Jesus from the dead will give life to your own mortal bodies through his Spirit living in you. So then, my brothers, there is no necessity for us to obey our unspiritual selves or to live unspiritual lives. WARNING: Your Breakthrough Is Being Blocked—Act Now to Receive Divine Favor

By praying towards the east, you are positioning yourself to experience the miraculous power that will turn your impossible situation into a testimony. Your faith, expressed through your prayer and offering, will cause the east wind of the Lord to blow, clearing the path to your victory. 2. The Arrow of Deliverance – 2 Kings 13:15-17 “And Elisha said unto him, Take bow and arrows. And he took unto him bow and arrows. And he said to the king of Israel, Put thine hand upon the bow. And he put his hand upon it: and Elisha put his hands upon the king's hands. And he said, Open the window eastward. And he opened it. Then Elisha said, Shoot. And he shot. And he said, The arrow of the Lord's deliverance, and the arrow of deliverance from Syria: for thou shalt smite the Syrians in Aphek, till thou have consumed them.” Just as Elisha commanded the king to shoot the arrow of deliverance eastward, the Lord is commanding you to align your prayers and actions towards the east. Your eastward prayers, combined with your obedience in giving, will be like arrows in the hands of the Lord, striking down every force that has come against you. This week, your deliverance is at hand—but only if you obey and shoot your arrows of faith and offering towards the east. The enemy that has tormented you will be consumed, and you will see the salvation of the Lord in your life. 3. Drying the Root of Your Problems – Hosea 13:15 “Though he be fruitful among his brethren, an east wind shall come, the wind of the Lord shall come up from the wilderness, and his spring shall become dry, and his fountain shall be dried up: he shall spoil the treasure of all pleasant vessels.” The east wind is not only a wind of deliverance but also a wind of judgment against your enemies. Child of God, as you pray towards the east and give your special offering, the Lord will send an east wind to dry up the very roots of your problems. Every source of trouble, every hidden cause of your suffering, will be exposed and destroyed by the east wind of the Lord. What has been fruitful in bringing you pain and hardship will wither away, and you will be freed from the burdens that have held you back for so long. This is your moment to uproot every problem at its source, but you must act in faith. 4. The East Wind Will Blow Your Enemies Away – Job 27:21 “The east wind carrieth him away, and he departeth: and as a storm hurleth him out of his place.” Your enemies, those who have plotted against you, will be swept away by the east wind of the Lord. As you pray and give your offering, the Lord will release a powerful east wind that will drive out every adversary from your life. The storms that have raged against you will turn on your enemies, and they will be removed from your path. This week, the Lord is ready to fight on your behalf, but you must activate this promise through your obedience in prayer and giving. Do not let fear or hesitation hold you back—your victory depends on your willingness to act now. But it is not enough to simply pray—your obedience requires action. This week, you are being called to do something extraordinary: to give a special offering that will play a crucial role in your breakthrough. This offering is not just a gesture; it is a sacred act of faith that will unlock the blessings you’ve been praying for. Third Level Society: First Version

Story One: Daniel Orville Carter

I parked my Scalar at one of the enclosed airship moors at Gentry County Airport and took a cable train to the terminal at University Plaza. There, I met up with the University Chaplain and the Headmaster, himself, who walked me over to 124 West Mason Street. I took a look around and saw no immediate sign of trouble other than the fact that the spellfire dymensional frame plane was missing its Algorithm Book.

That's troubling, because the Algorithm Book is essentially the brain of the dymensional plane. One cannot cast their created world across their dymensional plane frame if the Book containing all of the geographical information and character information and what-not is missing. So I asked Glenda Browen, roommate and cousin of Ivella Ogden what exactly transpired.

Accordingly, she, Ivella, and their other two roommates, Arthur Corbin and Martin Nodd, were co-administering the dymensional plane, implementing a session of TableQuest, which involves character role play among numerous members connected through radio frequency by their home consoles. They were operating it as a business, charging 25.00 qors per month. It was at a crucial point in a quest involving all four roommates when their consoles went blank and a commotion was heard coming from Ivella Ogden's room. Martin Nodd went to investigate, and that was when Ivella's bedroom door flew open and a dark figure rushed out, knocking him to the floor.

The other three roommates tried to catch the burglar but he escaped. That was when Glenda realized that not only was the Book missing, so was Ivella. I asked Glenda where she saw the burglar go, and she pointed Eastward.

I understand that there are some abandoned mineshafts and sheds toward that area; so I will check that area first.

German and Russian military plans–‘You can keep thinking that Russia is bluffing and then, one day, there is no more Great Britain to laugh at’

German Defence Ministry plans big boost in army reserves

The German Defence Ministry is planning for a significantly strengthened Bundeswehr or army reserve, to include up to 60,000 men and women, a top official for the army’s reservist affairs told dpa in Berlin.

“I am convinced that we must fully adapt the reserve to the current security policy challenges so that it can properly support the Bundeswehr in performing the task of national and alliance (NATO) defence,” Lieutenant General Andreas Hoppe, deputy inspector general and commissioner for reservist affairs, said. …

The German government has finalized new plans for a potential war, including reinstatement of compulsory military service and deployment of NATO troops on its eastern flank, …

The new defense plan spells out such details as mandatory conscription and forcing manufacturers to produce only war goods. Parts of the country could be evacuated, and subway stations, underground parking lots, and other subterranean facilities would be used as temporary shelters.

Revisions to the framework also reflect NATO’s eastward expansion, which could mean coming to the aid of allies in the Baltic States. “Germany is no longer a frontline state, but serves the allied armed forces as a hub for the alliance in the heart of Europe,” the cabinet said. …

German leaders have the desire to lead a massive European army–according to the Bible it will end up with “a great army” (Daniel 11:25). Because of the use of technology, I suspect that Germany may be ready for World War III by 2028.

German leaders have basically concluded that Europe no longer can (or should) rely on the USA for protection.

As far as Russia goes, the BBC reported the following:

President Putin claimed that Russia wouldn’t need to use a nuclear weapon to achieve victory in Ukraine.

He was being interviewed at a panel discussion at the St Petersburg International Economic Forum: the annual event often described as ‘Russia’s Davos’. …

Russia’s has “many more [tactical nuclear weapons] than there are on the European continent, even if the United States brings theirs over.”

“Europe does not have a developed [early warning system],” he added. “In this sense they are more or less defenceless.”

Tactical nuclear weapons are smaller warheads designed to destroy targets without widespread radioactive fallout. …

So, to which parts of the world might Russia deploy its missiles?

“Wherever we think it is necessary, we’re definitely going to put them. As President Putin made clear, we’ll investigate this question,” Vladimir Solovyov, one of Russian state TV’s most prominent hosts, tells me.

“If you are trying to harm us you have to be pretty sure we have enough opportunities and chances to harm you.”

“In the West some will say we’ve heard this sabre-rattling before,” I respond, “and that it’s a bluff.”

“It’s always a bluff. Until the time when it is not,” Mr Solovyov replies. “You can keep thinking that Russia is bluffing and then, one day, there is no more Great Britain to laugh at. Boldly suggesting the end of the UK is something those in the UK should wonder about.

Furthermore, in the not too distant future (maybe within the next 5 years) I expect that Russia will make a deal with the Europeans.

This will be a deal that will coincide with the end to the Anglo-American world order.

It will probably include Russia regaining at least parts of Alaska and some territory Canada currently rules.

That said, Russia has not forgotten its deaths from World War II.

Regarding the start of WWIII (the Great Tribulation), the late Pastor General of the old Worldwide Church of God, Herbert W. Armstrong, taught the following last century:

The Next World War

Now, all the pieces that have divided them over there, are beginning to fall into place, and it’s very shocking news. You’ll find it prophesied in the seventeenth chapter of Revelation and many other prophecies in the Bible. And it is going to trigger World War III, the feared, the unthinkable nuclear World War III. I want to read you what the Bible says about this World War III coming on; it’s in Matthew 24 and I’m going to show you how the time is now. And it begins, I’ll just begin in verse 21, it’s a prophecy of Jesus Christ Himself when He was here on earth and speaking of this time that we are in now He says:

“For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be [that’s the time of trouble in the world, that’ll be far greater than World War I and World War II, much greater]. And except those days should be shortened [unless God Almighty Himself intervenes supernaturally to cut it short], …no flesh [should] be saved [alive]…”: (Matthew 24:21-22)

It’s talking not of spiritual salvation but saving humanity alive. In other words; every man woman, child on earth would be snuffed out. You, your children, myself, all of us. Humanity would be erased.

What is this abomination? This refers to Daniel 11:31 and Matthew 24:15…That will be a time when the UNITED Europe shall appear–the revival of the medieval “Holy Roman Empire.” We shall then be warned, and readied to be taken to a place of refuge and safety from the Great Tribulation. Forty-five days later “the beasts armies” will surround Jerusalem. Thirty days later the Great Tribulation will probably start with a nuclear attack on London and Britain–and possibly the same day or immediately after, on the United States and Canadian cities. The GREAT TRIBULATION, we shall fully then realize, is the time of “Jacob’s Trouble,” spoken of in Jeremiah 30:7. And Jacob’s name was named on Joseph’s sons, Ephraim and Manasseh (Gen. 48:16). At that time a third of the people in our nations will die, or shall have died, by famine and disease epidemics; another third will dies of the war–our cities being destroyed (Ezek. 6:6), and the remaining third will be carried to the land of our enemies as slaves (Ezek. 5:12). As far as German and Russian cooperation, back in 1962, notice something that the old Radio Church of God published:

United within the ancient boundaries of the Holy Roman Empire; united by the common spiritual bond of universal Catholicism; united in a burgeoning and booming industrial economy that dominates today’s world; united geographically in the most productive and industrial complex of all the earth — at least TEN NATIONS OF MODERN EUROPE WILL MARCH ONTO THE SCENE OF WORLD HISTORY AS THE GREATEST SINGLE HUMAN FORCE EVER SEEN BY MAN! This United Europe will form a nonaggression pact or political alignment of some sort with the Soviet East. …

Modern Europe is counseling and making treaties and alliances and agreements to conquer this earth! … Germany, those living in Germany, even the German government, may not yet know that they are going to join in a treaty with the Russians to destroy the United States and bring it to its knees-it is not in his “heart” to think so, but on the other hand it IS in his “heart” to destroy-the very characteristic of the Assyrian, the modern German, is a harsh, cruel, iron, dedication to militarism and destruction! …

MAN’S ONLY HOPE LIES IN TURNING TO HIS CREATOR GOD!

“At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom. to pluck up, and to pull down, and to destroy it; If that nation, against whom I have pronounced, TURN FROM THEIR EVIL, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them… Behold, I frame evil against YOU, and devise a device against YOU: return ye now EVERY ONE from his evil way and make your ways and your doings good!” (Jer. 18:7, 8, 11).

The case of America and Great Britain is hopeless! (Hill DJ,What is Germany’s Destiny? Plain Truth, March 1962, pp. 28-29)

The German people are now asking themselves: “Can we rely on the Americans and British?” … These questions lead to the logical conclusion that maybe the only people the Germans can rely on themselves. They are now thinking: “Perhaps we can strike a better bargain with the Russians ourselves.” …

Once a German-dominated Europe is fully established, Germany will be ready to negotiate and bargain with Russia- and behind the backs of the Western Allies if necessary. …

When will a Russo-German deal be made? Here is a quotation from a circular letter issued in September, 1950 by the Nazi Geo-political Center in Madrid:

“However long we may continue to milk the Americans of millions of dollars, there must come the inevitable moment when we shall have to make it crystal clear to them that we are not willing to join the fight against Russia for American interests … (Germany Plots with the Kremlin by T H. Terens, p. 15). …

Most Americans and Britons are not aware of what Germany and Europe are planning against them. This is partly due to the cunning of German. politics. …

World events are moving swiftly toward the climax when Great Britain and the United. States will be attacked, conquered and DESTROYED! (Boraker R. Are the Germans Secretly Dealing with Moscow? Plain Truth, May 1962, pp. 45-47)

Yes, I, too, expect that Russia will make a deal with the Europeans. Some have been hinted at this century (see Greece begs Germany’s Merkel not to throw them ‘overboard,’ while it makes deals with Russia; see als0 Vladimir Putin allegedly helped stop a Grexit).

Notice that after Jesus returns, the following will be fulfilled:

7 For thus says the Lord: “Sing with gladness for Jacob, And shout among the chief of the nations; Proclaim, give praise, and say, ‘O Lord, save Your people, The remnant of Israel!’ 8 Behold, I will bring them from the north country, And gather them from the ends of the earth, Among them the blind and the lame, The woman with child And the one who labors with child, together; A great throng shall return there. 9 They shall come with weeping, And with supplications I will lead them. I will cause them to walk by the rivers of waters, In a straight way in which they shall not stumble; For I am a Father to Israel, And Ephraim is My firstborn. 10 “Hear the word of the Lord, O nations, And declare it in the isles afar off, and say, ‘He who scattered Israel will gather him, And keep him as a shepherd does his flock.’ (Jeremiah 31:7-10)

While the ‘land of the north’ has to do with end time Babylonian Europe (cf. Zechariah 2:6-7),  the “end of the earth” comment indicates that Russia will also have been involved. Some of the descendants of Jacob, which includes the Anglo-American nations (see Anglo – America in Prophecy & the Lost Tribes of Israel), will end up in the “ends of the earth” (this includes Russia, cf. Jeremiah 50:41) and will later be freed as Jeremiah 31 points to (for more details see Will the Anglo-Saxon Nations be Divided and Have People Taken as Slaves?).

Yeah 100% absolutely. All the thematic resonances around mutation in Qud work so strongly because the game itself is the product of a kind of process of mutation. This is sort of what i'm trying to get at when i say that Qud is an exercise in the determinate negation of RPG ideology while something like Fallout 4 is an abstract one. The kind of specific genealogy of its development you're doing here is really illustrative of that.

I think the geography of the overworld does a bit of the work in connecting Kyakukya to the game's "main story". For new players journeying east who have learned how dangerous the River Svy's madpoles are without having found a tactic for bypassing them, that narrow pass of jungle south of the river's end is the way to go at a certain point in the story—if you do cross the river further north where it narrows again, there's another river and mountains to get past. It's also a guaranteed location for the books on disease cures and on faction heirlooms, which creates narrative vectors between it and both More Than A Willing Spirit and The Council of Omonporch. If a player makes it all the way to Pax Klanq, I Presume? without having visited Kyakukya, they'll still find it located at a particular point on another narrator's eastward journey through Qud in the Scroll bound by a strand of kelp. In light of Qud being a game produced in the "Global North," in the "West," and in light of the jungle's position on the game's development timeline towards what it is now, what does it mean for the one explicit mention of Kyakukya directly along the "main story" path to read: "I've arrived at Kyakukya. Kind Nuntu shares his hut with me, offers me smoked mushroom, and asks nothing in return. I write these words at his desk, and though he lusts for knowledge himself, he leaves me be to chronicle my past [...] I wept, then I screamed, then I tore the hair from my head. The chant animated my bones more surely than my volition ever had. East and south, it urged. East and south. East and south. Toward Qud."? Just how much can I get away with reading into this?

But another angle that @tsunderebird put me onto is the allegorical relationship between Resheph as the Lamb, and Indrix and Mamon as Goats, Biblically speaking. If anyone has recs for Jewish translations of Leviticus 16 or Daniel 8 from Hebrew to English please let me know. In the KJV version I'm familiar with, the former verse has two goats being chosen, one to be sacrificed and one to be scapegoated and banished into the wilderness. This is another layer to Indrix and Mamon on top of the Cain and Abel routine that I didn't pick up on until now. The latter passage contains an allegorical vision in which a goat fights a ram at a river and breaks its horn, from which more horns spring forth, "and out of one of them came forth a little horn, which waxed exceeding great, toward the south, and toward the east, and toward the pleasant land." East and South. A mythopoetic interface is a type of allegory in an interactive medium. I'm pointing at something here but I don't know exactly what. It's a generative curation of parts. The river in Raising Indrix runs to the east. The same religious themes carry through from Kyakukya to the final decisions in the game's story. I guess if I'm claiming anything here it's that the apex of Gamma World-Qud is still an extremely fertile environment for post-furry Qud.

Warden Indrix, Goatfolk Pariah is a really interesting character. He's at the crux of Qud's reckoning with its own inheritance of colonialist fantasy genre tropes, but what does he actually say?

The goatfolk are hostile to nearly everything, populating the jungle in roles such as "shaman" and "bully" (formerly "savage"). The fellowship of wardens, straining to exercise a monopoly on the legitimate use of violence, guarding friendly villages, the "cozy" parts of the game, form the other side of this civilization/wilderness dynamic that players and authors alike have had to reckon with.

The game explicitly frames this conflict in terms of land and locates it in Indrix's neck of the woods in Council at Gamma Rock: "Four wardens from the southern banks of the River Svy ascended the rostrum and reported on goatfolk incursions. The villages of Shebal and Ekamas were sacked inside of a month. The wardens recommended mounting a counteroffensive." Indrix is an outcast goatfolk warrior who now lives in this part of the jungle as a warden.

A parallel here could be drawn to the Arbiter Thel 'Vadam in the Halo series—a reformed warrior who has switched to the side of humanism and order, and a powerful ally. Remember goatfolk savages being renamed? Did you know that the rank of Arbiter was originally called Dervish in the writing for Halo 2 until concerns arose that it would make the human-versus-covenant war read as too much of a US-versus-Islam allegory? Being sci-fi like Qud, Halo also inherits a particular vision of jungles rooted not only in the literature of the world of 1492 but also in Vietnam War literature—in the same way that Star Wars has its forest moon of Endor, inextricably tied up with Apocalypse Now [and therefore, to return back to those earlier roots, The Heart of Darkness].

But while Halo pits its marines against the forces of the Prophet of Truth in a noble struggle to save humanity and Star Wars has its guerillas fighting alongside spear-throwing Ewoks against the evil Empire, Qud's goatfolk/wardens conflict isn't the engine of the narrative. It's a line in an in-game book, a haunting of the jungles with sense memories, and a side quest that comes down to carrying out a fratricide plot [Biblical stylings here] against a cult leader whose sanity-frying power source might be the closest thing in the game to the type of metaphysical evil typically found as the antagonist in roguelike games. Here, the quest to retrieve the Amulet of Yendor for the forces of order is a minor tragedy played out on the sidelines of a much larger narrative whose antagonists (on multiple levels) are materially understood colonizers.

This is a lot to try to unpack. I haven't even gotten into Nuntu and Erah's comments about goatfolk or any of Indrix's own dialogue[!!] here. It's a really messy area. I haven't gotten into the Naphtaali. I want to consider the ways in which Indrix is specifically sexualized in fan responses to the game, in terms of his strength and "goatish nature" and the ways in which he is marked, and what connections there are here with the figure of the brute in the colonial sexual imaginary. I want to consider Mayor Nuntu, the ape who has given up bludgeoning things to death and put on a hat, and the Svenlainard -> Crowsong dynamic, and what Kyakukya as a whole is doing in the narrative of Qud. I think there's something about the stages of development of national consciousness, something Fanonian in there, particularly in relation to Mamon's association with insanity and Indrix's violent responses. What is it? I don't know yet but it's interesting.
