Song Review: Chicago - “Where Do We Go from Here” (Virtual Summer Concert Series)
Digging deep into their second album, 90 percent of Chicago unexpectedly performed “Where Do We Go from Here” for its latest virtual summer concert series.
It’s acoustic. There are no horns - never were - and the current group, minus the MIA Robert Lamm, sounds like an ace cover band as original members James Pankow and Lee Loughnane are relegated to background vocals.
Written and sung by the long-decamped Peter Cetera in 1970, this socially conscious number is still relevant in 2020 as Neil Donell sings:
Let’s all get together soon, before it is too late/forget about the past and let your feelings fade away/if you do I’m sure you’ll see, the end is not yet near/where do we go/where do we go/where do we go from here?
Pulling this gem from dry dock is the band’s gift to the die-hards. But it sure would be nice to know what’s up with Lamm.
Grade card: Chicago - “Where Do We Go from Here” (Virtual Summer Concert Series) - B
See and hear it here.

Broadway's Best Shows has just announced a musical extravaganza with dozens of Broadway stars performing the title songs from over 20 beloved musicals. "Show of Titles" will be available on June 8, 2021 for a limited time only. All proceeds will benefit The Actors Fund.
The evening will be a rousing and memorable celebration of title songs from more than two dozen Broadway musicals spanning nine decades, ranging from "Lady Be Good" to "The Light in the Piazza." But is the original title song disappearing from the theatrical map? What used to be the norm has become a rarity. Tony nominees, for example, from the 60's frequently had title songs. Contrast the 1965-1966-67-68 seasons when 75% of the nominated musicals had title songs, with the three most recent seasons when there was no original title song from a Tony-nominated Broadway musical.
The evening will feature favorite works by Lee Adams, Maxwell Anderson, Burt Bacharach, Irving Berlin, Jerry Bock, Bertolt Brecht, Cy Coleman, Betty Comden, Joe Darion, Hal David, Fred Ebb, Gary Geld, George Gershwin, Ira Gershwin, Adolph Green, Adam Guettel, Oscar Hammerstein, Sheldon Harnick, Jerry Herman, John Kander, Burton Lane, Mitch Leigh, Alan Jay Lerner, Frank Loesser, Frederick Loewe, Cole Porter, James Rado, Gerome Ragni, Richard Rodgers, Charles Strouse, Jule Styne, Peter Udell & Kurt Weill.
With performances by: Annaleigh Ashford, Glenn Close, Len Cariou, Darren Criss, Santino Fontana, Kelsey Grammar, David Alan Grier, Jake Gyllenhaal, Joshua Henry, Isabelle Huppert, Norm Lewis, Patti LuPone, Rob McClure, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Melba Moore, Jessie Mueller, Eva Noblezada, Kelli O'Hara, Laura Osnes, Steven Pasquale, Michael Rupert, Ernie Sabella, Lea Salonga, Phillipa Soo, Will Swenson, Aaron Tveit, Leslie Uggams, Vanessa Williams & Patrick Wilson. And Special Appearances by: Broadway Inspirational Voices, Candice Bergen, Danny Burstein, Bryan Cranston, Sheldon Harnick, John Kander, Angela Lansbury, John Lithgow, Lindsay Mendez, Phylicia Rashad, Ben Vereen, BD Wong & Florian Zeller.
"Show of Titles" is directed by Emmy Award winner Lonny Price ("Best Worst Thing That Ever Happened," PBS' "Harold Prince: The Director's Life," Sunset Boulevard starring Glenn Close) and Emmy & Grammy Award winner Jason Howland (PBS' "Handel's Messiah Rocks" & Broadway's Little Women & Beautiful) is the Music Director/Supervisor.
"Conceived by producer, Jeffrey Richards, 'Show of Titles' is a celebration of the some of the best songwriters of the theatre- from George Gershwin to Jule Styne to Stephen Sondheim, sung by some of the theaters best and brightest stars," said Director Lonny Price. "It has been my pleasure to be in the company of performers and songs I grew up with, some of which inspired me to be in the theatre in the first place!"
"Show of Titles" will be livestreamed on Stellar at 8M EST/5PM PST and available for a strictly limited amount of time. Starting May 17, tickets will be on sale for $29. Starting May 21, tickets will be $39. Proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to The Actor's Fund.

Voyd / Svdden Death - EDC Las Vegas 2021 Live Set

This is a 75-minue audio recording of Voyd (Svdden Death) at EDC Las Vegas 2021 live set, Saturday, October 23, 2021. The performance took place at the BassPod stage, and began at 12:30 AM the following morning.
Rave Tapes · VOYD (Svdden Death) Live at EDC Las Vegas 2021 [full set, stereo]
Ahhhh VOYD!
At a festival dominated by bright colors and happy imagery, Voyd offers a refreshing departure. Sure, it's bass music, but the vibe hits different. The tracks he plays are slower and ominous-sounding. His mask and outfit seem occult. But it's so much fun! It's like a guilty pleasure feeling as if one is participating in a dark ritual. It may be schtick, but it's wonderful nonetheless. And the music is 100% legit.
The first time I saw Svdden Death was at EDC 2019. I caught the tail end of his set and instantly regretted not getting there earlier and recording it. I knew right away that Svdden Death/Voyd/Danny Howland was something special.
When Svdden Death came to LA in February 20202, going to the show was a no-brainer. It was awesome! The first half of the show was more mainstream riddim and dubstep. The second half of the show was performed as VOYD. During the Voyd into, Howland was rigged in a harness and got lifted 15 feet into the air, appearing as if he was magically hovering over the decks! The crowd went insane! Listen to the set here: Svdden Death Live at the Hollywood Palladium 2020.
This set at EDC was ideal. It conveyed that eerie Voyd feeling while delivering ground-shaking beats. Of course, Howland looked the part, donned in the skull helmet and spiky jacket. The visuals were tamer than what I had seen before. I personally like the animated imagery of demonic warriors, devils and witchcraft. Visuals like that really fit the Svdden Death/Void persona. The visuals of this performance were mainly undulating patterns of red and black, accented with occasional blasts of pyrotechnic fire. At a stage shared by a dozen other performers, artists are limited in how much stage production they can control. Perfectly understandable, perfectly acceptable.
Several times during the set a small mosh pit opened to my left. I understand people’s desire to mosh, especially to this music. I get it. As long as the moshers stay respectful of the people outside the circle, it’s not a problem. But the nature of moshing is chaotic and it’s inevitable that some moshers get pushed hard into the crowd. I’m usually able to keep my mic upright and save the recording even with the moshing going on. Luckily, I got through this set without a major mishap.
I have to say the sound quality of this recording is flippin’ off the charts. Even I can’t believe I was able to capture sound this good. Yes, I did a little processing to clean up and boost the signal, but damn, the final product sounds amazing. All frequencies are heard, from the sub bass to the crispy highs. Stereo separation is correct. Props are owed to the Basspod crew for properly tuning the sound system for this set.
So enjoy the recording! It’s a doozy!

THE ELVES
September 2, 1949
“The Elves” is episode #52 of the radio series MY FAVORITE HUSBAND broadcast on September 2, 1949.
This was the first episode of the second season of MY FAVORITE HUSBAND which concluded on June 25, 1950.
Synopsis ~ Liz and George arrive home from vacation to find that someone has been ordering strawberry ice cream from the milkman every day, and the pink trail leads to the doorstep of their new neighbors, Mr. and Mrs. Wood, and their ten children.
“My Favorite Husband” was based on the novels Mr. and Mrs. Cugat, the Record of a Happy Marriage (1940) and Outside Eden (1945) by Isabel Scott Rorick, which had previously been adapted into the film Are Husbands Necessary? (1942). “My Favorite Husband” was first broadcast as a one-time special on July 5, 1948. Lucille Ball and Lee Bowman played the characters of Liz and George Cugat, and a positive response to this broadcast convinced CBS to launch “My Favorite Husband” as a series. Bowman was not available Richard Denning was cast as George. On January 7, 1949, confusion with bandleader Xavier Cugat prompted a name change to Cooper. On this same episode Jell-O became its sponsor. A total of 124 episodes of the program aired from July 23, 1948 through March 31, 1951. After about ten episodes had been written, writers Fox and Davenport departed and three new writers took over – Bob Carroll, Jr., Madelyn Pugh, and head writer/producer Jess Oppenheimer. In March 1949 Gale Gordon took over the existing role of George’s boss, Rudolph Atterbury, and Bea Benaderet was added as his wife, Iris. CBS brought “My Favorite Husband” to television in 1953, starring Joan Caulfield and Barry Nelson as Liz and George Cooper. The television version ran two-and-a-half seasons, from September 1953 through December 1955, running concurrently with “I Love Lucy.” It was produced live at CBS Television City for most of its run, until switching to film for a truncated third season filmed (ironically) at Desilu and recasting Liz Cooper with Vanessa Brown.
MAIN CAST
Lucille Ball (Liz Cooper) was born on August 6, 1911 in Jamestown, New York. She began her screen career in 1933 and was known in Hollywood as ‘Queen of the B’s’ due to her many appearances in ‘B’ movies. With Richard Denning, she starred in a radio program titled “My Favorite Husband” which eventually led to the creation of “I Love Lucy,” a television situation comedy in which she co-starred with her real-life husband, Latin bandleader Desi Arnaz. The program was phenomenally successful, allowing the couple to purchase what was once RKO Studios, re-naming it Desilu. When the show ended in 1960 (in an hour-long format known as “The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour”) so did Lucy and Desi’s marriage. In 1962, hoping to keep Desilu financially solvent, Lucy returned to the sitcom format with “The Lucy Show,” which lasted six seasons. She followed that with a similar sitcom “Here’s Lucy” co-starring with her real-life children, Lucie and Desi Jr., as well as Gale Gordon, who had joined the cast of “The Lucy Show” during season two. Before her death in 1989, Lucy made one more attempt at a sitcom with “Life With Lucy,” also with Gordon.
Richard Denning (George Cooper) was born Louis Albert Heindrich Denninger Jr., in Poughkeepsie, New York. When he was 18 months old, his family moved to Los Angeles. Plans called for him to take over his father’s garment manufacturing business, but he developed an interest in acting. Denning enlisted in the US Navy during World War II. He is best known for his roles in various science fiction and horror films of the 1950s. Although he teamed with Lucille Ball on radio in “My Favorite Husband,” the two never acted together on screen. While “I Love Lucy” was on the air, he was seen on another CBS TV series, “Mr. & Mrs. North.” From 1968 to 1980 he played the Governor on “Hawaii 5-0″, his final role. He died in 1998 at age 84.
Bea Benadaret (Iris Atterbury, Liz’s Best Friend) was considered the front-runner to be cast as Ethel Mertz but when “I Love Lucy” was ready to start production she was already playing a similar role on TV’s “The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show” so Vivian Vance was cast instead. On “I Love Lucy” she was cast as Lucy Ricardo’s spinster neighbor, Miss Lewis, in “Lucy Plays Cupid” (ILL S1;E15) in early 1952. Later, she was a success in her own show, “Petticoat Junction” as Shady Rest Hotel proprietress Kate Bradley. She starred in the series until her death in 1968.
Gale Gordon (Rudolph Atterbury, George’s Boss) had worked with Lucille Ball on “The Wonder Show” on radio in 1938. One of the front-runners to play Fred Mertz on “I Love Lucy,” he eventually played Alvin Littlefield, owner of the Tropicana, during two episodes in 1952. After playing a Judge in an episode of “The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour” in 1958, he would re-team with Lucy for all of her subsequent series’: as Theodore J. Mooney in ”The Lucy Show”; as Harrison Otis Carter in “Here’s Lucy”; and as Curtis McGibbon on "Life with Lucy.” Gordon died in 1995 at the age of 89.
Ruth Perrott (Katie, the Maid) does not appear in this episode
Bob LeMond (Announcer) also served as the announcer for the pilot episode of “I Love Lucy”. When the long-lost pilot was finally discovered in 1990, a few moments of the opening narration were damaged and lost, so LeMond – fifty years later – recreated the narration for the CBS special and subsequent DVD release.
GUEST CAST
Hans Conried (Mr. Wood, New Neighbor) first co-starred with Lucille Ball in The Big Street (1942). He then appeared on “I Love Lucy” as used furniture man Dan Jenkins in “Redecorating” (ILL S2;E8) and later that same season as Percy Livermore in “Lucy Hires an English Tutor” (ILL S2;E13) – both in 1952. The following year he began an association with Disney by voicing Captain Hook in Peter Pan. On “The Lucy Show” he played Professor Gitterman in “Lucy’s Barbershop Quartet” (TLS S1;E19) and in “Lucy Plays Cleopatra” (TLS S2;E1). He was probably best known as Uncle Tonoose on “Make Room for Daddy” starring Danny Thomas, which was filmed on the Desilu lot. He joined Thomas on a season 6 episode of “Here’s Lucy” in 1973. He died in 1982 at age 64.
Conried plays Mr. Wood in several other episodes. His first name is Benjamin, and his wife - who we never meet - is named Gertrude. They were both only children and want to make up for it by having a large family.
Frank Nelson (Mr. Stevens) was born on May 6, 1911 (three months before Lucille Ball) in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He started working as a radio announcer at the age of 15. He later appeared on such popular radio shows as “The Great Gildersleeve,” “Burns and Allen,” and “Fibber McGee & Molly”. Aside from Lucille Ball, Nelson is perhaps most associated with Jack Benny and was a fifteen-year regular on his radio and television programs. His trademark was playing clerks and other working stiffs, suddenly turning to Benny with a drawn out “Yeeeeeeeeees?” Nelson appeared in 11 episodes of “I Love Lucy”, including three as quiz master Freddy Fillmore, and two as Ralph Ramsey, plus appearance on “The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour” - making him the only actor to play two different recurring roles on “I Love Lucy.” Nelson returned to the role of the frazzled Train Conductor for an episode of “The Lucy Show” in 1963. This marked his final appearance on a Lucille Ball sitcom.
Anne Whitfield (Joanne Wood, Nearly 7) is best remembered for her signature role as the younger daughter of Phil Harris and Alice Faye on their hit radio show. Although she never appeared on screen with Lucille Ball, she did a 1962 episode of Desilu’s “The Untouchables.” She is best known for playing Susan in the 1954 film White Christmas. She was 11 years old in 1949 when this episode of “My Favorite Husband” was broadcast. As of this writing she is 82 years old and living in Washington state.
Joanne Wood is one of the many children of the Coopers neighbors Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Wood. She will also appear as Joanne Wood, without Conried, but with Nelson, in “Liz’s Superstitions” in October 1949.
THE EPISODE
ANNOUNCER: “As we look in on lazy little Sheridan Falls, the hometown of the Coopers, we find many signs that summer is over. The leaves are turning red, the Coopers are turning their faces toward home after summer vacation, and Liz is hoping that all her friends will turn green when they see how she’s turned brown. Let’s pick them up as their drive into town...”
Liz is anxious for people to see her summer tan. She spots the Atterburys and wants to stop the car to talk. They also just got back from vacation at Moosehead Lodge. Every time Liz tries to talk about her sunny stay, Iris and Rudolph interrupt about their Lodge at the lake. Liz and Iris tug at her blouses and slacks to reveal their tans. Mr. Atterbury tells George that he may be getting a promotion. They say their goodbyes.
LIZ: “Goodbye, Paleface!” IRIS: “See you later, Snow White!”
The Paleface was a Bob Hope / Jane Russell film released at the very end of 1948 and still in cinemas at the time of the broadcast. The Paramount western also featured future “Lucy” cast members Iris Adrian, Iron Eyes Cody, Olin Howland, Nestor Paiva, George Chandler, Fred Aldrich, Oliver Blake, George Bruggerman, Dick Elliott, and Bert Stevens.
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was a 1937 animated Disney film based on the classic fairy tale. It featured the voices of future “Lucy” cast member Pinto Colvig and Moroni Olsen.
Upon arriving home, the Coopers notice that their porch has been painted white. Upon closer inspection, they realize it isn’t paint - but milk. Their ‘milk card’ has been tampered with to order strawberry ice cream while they were away - yet none is found.
During the early part of the twentieth century, dairy products were usually delivered to homes, rather than shopped in a market. The milkman was part of daily life. Housewives would leave notes (or cards, as above) to request items outside their standing delivery order: Milk, eggs, yogurt, butter, and ice cream, were all offered. It was not uncommon to see back porches with milk boxes and or empty bottles ready to be returned to the dairy. This service has all but disappeared in favor of supermarkets.
Liz and George turn into amateur sleuths to track down the trail of strawberry ice cream drippings which lead directly to... the empty house next door. Liz notices laundry on the line and surmises that the new neighbors moved in while they were away.
George angrily knocks on the door, which is opened by Mr. Wood (Hans Conried). He explains that one of his children has brought home strawberry ice cream. The elves gave it to her. Mr. Wood goes to find his daughter to explain.
LIZ (to George): “I think Mr. Wood has snapped his twig!”
Mr. Wood returns, assured that Joanna, his daughter, isn’t listening. Mr. Wood explains that he has ten children and one on the way. Liz is shocked to find out Mrs. Wood is still alive!
GEORGE: “Well, Mr. Wood, you’ve certainly got a lot of little splinters.”
The rest of the children stay with relatives in the summer. Mr. Wood calls for Joanne, who he thought was buying the ice cream from her allowance. Joanne is an imaginative child who thinks she’s a fairy queen, comes in. She has been feeding her pet dragon, Charlie, the ice cream. Liz tells her that dragons don’t eat so much ice cream, but Joanne insists that Charlie’s just a small dragon - a dragon-ette.
LIZ: “Yes. I’ve heard of her sister - Jessica.”
Jessica Dragonette (1900-80) was a singer who became popular on American radio and was active in the World War II effort. She was voted best female singer of the country 1942 and 1943.
Much to Liz and George’s chagrin, Mr. Wood let’s her daughter off without any punishment or admonishment for her ice cream thievery. Mr. Wood offers to pay their milk bill as compensation.
End of Part One

Bob LeMond gives listeners a Jell-O ‘dreamy’ recipe for a fluffy orange tart.
As the second half opens, Mr. Wood has rung the Cooper’s doorbell to report that little Joanne overheard them say that their were no such things as elves. Mr. Wood wants them to pretend to be elves to console her. Liz and George are reluctant, but agree when they see her awash in tears.
The Coopers will pretend to find Joanne’s lost dragon, Charlie. To prove that they are really elves, Joanne insists that Liz transform into a troll and George into a Brownie Princess. On the way out, Joanne picks up the Coopers telephone and it is Mr. Atterbury, who is bringing over an important client, Mr. Stevens. Joanne refuses to tell Liz and George who was on the phone - claiming it was the King of the Elves.
As Joanne waits outside for their transformation, Liz and George plan their outrageous outfits. As a brownie princess, George will wear his brown shoes, socks, and garters, a dried grass-skirt, water-wings, and a brown bathing cap. As a troll, Liz will wear a stocking over her face hanging down like an elephant’s trunk, red rubber gloves on her hands and feet, and will walk on all fours.
Meanwhile, Mr. Atterbury drives up with Mr. Stevens (Frank Nelson), describing Mr. Cooper as a “dignified, sober, and conservative”. On the porch is Joanne, who identifies herself as the Fairy Queen. From inside, Liz bids them open the door and come in. Liz is hopping about on all fours, spouting gibberish. Joanne describes the men as ogres “one uglier than the other.”
In retrospect, this storyline might have inspired the TV series “Bewitched” (1964-72), in which Darrin Stephens’ boss, Larry Tate, was usually bringing home an important client, describing Darrin to him in glowing terms, and then finding Darrin transformed due to a spell, sometimes involving his own daughter, Tabitha. Even the names Stevens / Stephens is the same!
Liz straightens up immediately when she sees them. Liz realizes that the ‘Brownie Princess’ is still upstairs, waiting to make his entrance. Too late! George dances on looking for his lily pad! Mr. Atterbury fires George on the spot. Mr. Stevens wants to hear George’s explanation. George stands up for himself - he was simply preserving the fantasy life of a child. Mr. Stevens takes George’s side and Mr. Atterbury immediately grants George his promotion to third vice president!
End of Episode

In the live Jell-O commercial that ends the show, Bob LeMond is singing “I’ve been working on the railroad...J-E-L-L-O!” Lucy thinks he is talking about having to take a job on the railroad, telling him that radio is a tough business and television is the future. They both sing the song with lyrics about Jell-O.

i hate ned stark. i get that he claimed jon was his bastard to protect him, but he was also very passive to his wife’s emotional abuse of his nephew. ned could’ve told cat the truth a few years into their marriage when he knew he could trust her but he didn’t. or to keep him safe, he could’ve stayed with howland reed or ashara dayne. there were options, but instead he chose to let him suffer. (continued)
(continued) personally, i think he just didn’t want jon to realize that he was the rightful heir to the iron throne because that would challenge his best friend’s claim to the throne. he was waiting for his “bastard” to take the black and join the night’s watch. even though jon could have been a prince if he knew the truth about himself. ned stark should have told jon and he should have told cat. that’s why i don’t like ned stark also i’m so sorry that i just sent you a fuckin essay about why i don’t like your favorite character, i don’t even know you. i hope you have a great rest of your day
I should probably just not answer these but if you’re gonna come into my house and shit on my floor I’m not gonna let you just walk away. it’s horribly rude even if you say sorry. But let's talk about this.
We’re gonna start with some of the more outlandish stuff and work our way to the only reasonable thing that was said. Which mostly means going backward.
“Jon Could have been a prince” him and what army??? if Robert found out Jon would be killed full stop end of story. His claim to the throne is better than Danny’s and Robert wanted Danny killed. also, no one would rise to get Robert off the throne when Ned Starks bastard all of a sudden “OH HEY I’M ACTUALLY A PRINCE” do you expect Ned to lead this uprising? when was it supposed to happen?
“he was waiting for his “bastard” to take the black and join the night’s watch” okay so I don’t remember how it shakes out in the show or if it does BUT here is the scene from the book“Jon must go,” she said now. “he and Robb are close,” Ned said. “I had hoped. . .”“He is your son, not mine. I will not have him.” it was hard, she knew, but no less the truth. Ned would do the boy no kindness leaving him here at Winterfell. The Look Ned gave her was anguished “you know I cannot take him sought. There will be no place for him at court. A boy with a bastard’s name. . . you know what they will say of him. he will be shunned” . . .Ned looked Shocked “He asked to Join the Night’s watch?”. . .“And even a bastard my rise high in the Night’s Watch” Ned reflected. Still, his voice was troubled “Jon is so young. If he asked when he was a man grown that would be one thing, but a boy of fourteen. . .”Clearly, a father who was waiting around for this right? No not at all not even close. Like, Ned didn’t want to send him, Ned wanted him and Robb to stick together. It sounds like Ned had never given the thought to Jon joining the nights watch considering HE WAS SHOCKED.
“i think he just didn’t want Jon to realize that he was the rightful heir to the iron throne because that would challenge his best friend’s claim to the throne” This is just silly like I’m sorry but I have no idea how you are reading this story to get to this conclusion. Like where are you getting this at all? For the entire time Ned is alive we don’t know that Jon has any kind of claim to the throne, so it’s not like Ned thinks this thought directly. But also, even re-reading it there is NOTHING AT ALL to suggest this, however, there are LOTS AND LOTS of reasons why Ned would keep Jon’s parents a secret, for example, ROBERT WOULD KILL HIM Like I can not stress enough how dangerous it is that Ned is hiding a Targaryan. Not only would Robert kill Jon, he would kill Ned, Robb, Sansa, Arya, Bran, Rickon, and Cat, and that’s just if everyone is lucky, he probably would also kill everyone who worked for Ned as well as all his bannermen. Robert could not be swayed UNTIL HE WAS DYING to not kill unborn children. and that unborn child wasn’t even the product of the man who stole? (we don’t know what happens in the books) the woman Robert loved. Ned has to keep his family safe, and his nephew son safe.
he could’ve stayed with Howland reed or ashara dayne. there were options, well I mean he could have stayed with Howland Reed as...as Howland Reed’s bastard and how do you know that would have been any better? What do you know of Jyana Reed that says she would not have been just as if not more terrible than Cat? Unless you’re GRRM himself I’m gonna go with you don’t. moreover we don’t know if Ned and Ashara were ever actually in love, maybe they were, Ned won’t talk about it and besides why would Ashara take the child? what do you have that would suggest that she would? are you really GRRM? but I think, more importantly, Ned could not have done either of those things. Ned Stark, is a man of honor through and through. Through the show/books, he only has two motivations, doing something because it’s the right thing, and doing something because he loves his family. Lyanna asked him to keep Jon safe, it was her dying wish, so Ned, quite literally could do nothing but keep Jon safe, and the safest place he, a 21/22 yearold could think of was with him. and guess what HE WAS RIGHT. The options you have given would force Ned to 1. possibly let down his sisters DYING WISH, 2. force a bastard on either Howland or Ashara 3. might not be safe at all. More over on Howland, Ned is in debt to the man, this is clear in the TV show and a bit less clear but still present in the books. A man of honor will not ask a man who saved his life to take up a bastard. so no, Ned didn’t have other options.
Now the only thing that actually makes some kind of sense “ he was also very passive to his wife’s emotional abuse of his nephew. ned could’ve told cat the truth a few years into their marriage when he knew he could trust her but he didn’t“ But again, no. Ned couldn’t have told Cat, he couldn’t tell anyone again literally everyone’s lives were in danger. But more than that, Cat could not love Jon. Even if even if she knew about who Jon was I don’t think anything would have changed, because Jon would still be Ned’s bastard. Cat doesn’t hate Jon bc of his personality, she hates the fact that Ned has a bastard, she hates the shame that brings to her and her family. Jon, even if Cat knew, would still bed Ned’s bastard. Let’s take the example of the feast with the King and think about how it would change if Cat knew about Jon’s birth. (hint:it wouldn’t) Ned would still probably not say anything about it and it would be up to Cat to tell Jon that he has to sit in the back (or as in the TV show, not show up at all) and here’s the thing. Even if Cat knew about Jon SHE WOULD BE RIGHT ABOUT THAT. Think for just one second about what Cersei would do and say if she saw Jon, a bastard, with the trueborn children? Robbert cares for his bastards it seems, but not like Ned does, would Robbert also take offense? perhaps. Ned doesn’t want to treat Jon like a bastard, he loves Jon like he loves Robb. So it falls to his wife to treat Jon like a bastard. and it needs to be done. Ned can’t rein in Cat bc he won’t do it himself. It’s one of his weaknesses but someone must remember that Jon is not Robb, and Ned loves the boy too much for that. Moreover again I can not stress how dangerous it is for anyone to know about Jon’s parents. Sure Ned could trust Cat, it’s a genuine true love maybe the only genuine true (romantic) love that we see in the whole story (I refuse to recognize what d&d did with Talisa) But still, it is far safer, not just for Jon but for Cat, that no one else knows. If Ned did tell Cat and Jon, they couldn’t change, they would have to go on with the story that Jon is Ned’s bastard, Cat would have to continue being cruel to him bc that is what is expected, Jon would have to continue living as a bastard. Only now these two have to live with the knowledge that it is a lie. Do you honestly think it would be easier for Jon to live with that knowledge, that his life sucks and it didn’t have to? That his life sucks and he could be living a MUCH better life? Now, this is also all in the context of a medieval feudal society. if this story took place in the 21st century? I would have a lot more problems with the way Cat treated Jon and the way Ned didn’t care. But it doesn’t and we have to keep the context in mind. and I’m not entirely sold that Cat is emotionally abusing Jon. I think she doesn’t love him and she treats him like a bastard. And that from our vantage point of the 21 century that a stepmom ought not behave like that. But she’s not his stepmom, right? like she has no love for Jon and she doesn’t have to, not in the world she’s living in. Sure it would be nice if she did, Ned probably wishes she did. But he also understands what Jon being a bastard means and that it brings some level of dishonor to not only him but his wife as well.
I really don’t care if you hate Ned, honestly, I don’t, I also don’t think i am going to change your mind one way or another and I don’t care about that either. I just think it was incredibly rude to come to my blog knowing very clearly who my favorite character is and then just hate on him. my “how can anyone hate ned” post was about someone who is doing this exact same thing on my fics about Ned so perhaps it was about you if you have a habit of coming in to people’s inboxs and hating on their favorite characters when you’ve never had a conversation with them at all ever. but like, what you did was wholly unnecessary so I responded in kind.

Re-Read Saturday Why Limit WIP Week 7, Chapter 6, Healthy Constraints #Lean @ourfounder
This week, we talk about Healthy Constraints in Why Limit WIP: We Are Drowning In Work. Many years (think decades) ago a friend of mine, Danny Bailus, had a cool mini-bike. He rode it around our neighborhood in Howland, Ohio all summer. It was the third coolest (text me the first two) that summer. That was until Danny decided that it did not go fast enough and removed the governor from the small…

The Peanuts Gang Do “25 or 6 to 4”
Ladies and gentlemen, tonight the part of Terry Kath will be played not by Keith Howland, but by Charlie Brown.
With that little bit of housekeeping out of the way, Sound Bites’ four readers can dive into a new YouTube video featuring the Peanuts gang performing Chicago’s “25 or 6 to 4.”
And in doing so, it’s immediately apparent that good ol’ Charlie Brown is one hell of a fake guitar player.
And Linus Van Pelt as Peter Cetera?
He should give lip-synch lessons to Mariah Carey and Garth Brooks before they try to fake it on TV again.
Pigpen pulls double duty on bass and drums, replaced in some scenes by Franklin on the kit and by Snoopy on the bass, which raises the following:
Question 67: Is Pigpen portraying Cetera or Jeff Coffey? (67-A: Is Snoopy Jason Scheff?)
Question 68: Is Pigpen Danny Seraphine and is Franklin - who joined the strip later - Tris Imboden?
I’d like to know, can you tell me? Please don’t tell me. It really doesn’t matter anyhow.
