Chapter 4 - What Are We?
Book master list
We went towards the hall, the place where the party was taking place. The hall was very beautifully decorated, and all eyes were on us. I suddenly realised that the guy I am with is the most popular guy in the university. Every girl wanted him to be her boyfriend and every guy wanted to be his friend. I never had so much attention to me ever before. Aman instead was very confident, had no fear at all. He looked at me cringing and getting nervous.
Aman then said: "Don't worry about anything. They won't do anything that'll hurt you. Don't get nervous, because I am in any way very nervous."
I then responded: "You? And nervous? Oh, come on Aman! You are the most popular guy in the university then why are you so nervous for?"
He answered: "I know that I don't look nervous because I know you will be nervous about this. I just want to make sure that whatever happens tonight, becomes the most memorable night of our lives. The one thing I really want to do with you is..."He took a long pause. He was looking into my eyes, and I got lost again in his eyes.
"...dance with you, but I don't know what your reaction be like. And I AM REALLY BAD AT DANCING. That's the only thing I hate. And regarding the fact that I am the most popular guy in the university, then no one treats me the I want them to treat me."
While he was talking, he came closer towards me and leant his lips over mine, so that our lips were just inches apart.
I then reacted, trying to remove the tension that was building up: "How can you hate dancing!!! It's the best thing that you can do when you are stressed!! I love it!! I used to dance a lot when I was little and also, I had to dance stealthily because dad didn't like that. And as far for the dance is concerned... I don't mind dancing with you. It can't be that bad."
The music was very rhythmic, it demanded you to dance on the dance floor, but I was a bit reticent because I never danced in a public place before. So, I went towards the bar and asked for a virgin Mojito.
Aman was talking to some other people who I didn't know, and I didn't want to be a nuisance to him. And my friends? They were all dancing with their boyfriends, completely ignoring me. Great! (#BFFgoals)
For some reason, I couldn't take my eyes off Aman. He was looking really handsome and dapper.
Then a guy, I think his name was Karan, asked me if I wanted to dance with him. I did not know what to say, so I looked towards Aman, and he was looking towards me, from a long time. He nodded. I said OK.
Karan took me to the dance floor, and we started dancing. He would keep touching in inappropriate places till I became enraged.
I said, almost screaming: "If you want me to break your face, fair enough, but don't you ever disrespect a woman's dignity!!! Any woman's dignity!!! Just because she's quiet, doesn't mean she's not going to react!"
I looked at Karan and he first started laughing as if I said a very funny joke and then became really angry and wanted to attack me. I saw Aman trying to help me out but, he was getting stopped by the same people he was talking to. Karan ran towards me and formed a fist with his hand when I defended and counter-attacked him and broke his nose. I know this because I heard the bone crack.
Everyone was shocked. Aman was shocked, in all that chaos. Everyone was screaming and shouting. Aman then came towards me, took the hand that I hit Karan and kissed my knuckles and then the palm of my hand. He then kicked in Karan's stomach, and he took me out the venue, in the car park. No one saw us going towards the car park because everyone was focused on Karan and his nose.
It was cold, and I was just wearing a dress. Aman saw me shivering, and so he came towards me and gave me his jacket. I tried to stop him, but he wouldn't listen. He became really silent, not normal for a person like Aman. He was a very talkative person.

who: @eatabug ( dara ) where: outside the peppered pig after closing
closing up was something kiran volunteered to do whenever the opportunity arose. nights were the worst, maybe it was the neon that beckoned them in or the memories attached to their glow. or perhaps it was the crown of sweat that was already starting to bead at his hairline despite the cool breeze wafting through the city while he threw the waste away. it was inevitable he'd end up giving into the cravings before the night was over, if only just a little bit in order to sleep. he slammed the compost bin shut and put the lock in place per regulation.
it was the cleaning of everything they loved the most about closing. the small details. they took the time to get each corner and nook until everything was pristine. sometimes scrubbing so hard their hands would crack but in the end, it was no different than what they'd done at the academy. it was muscle memory at that point. kiran cleaned off his apron last, then hung it over the hook in the back and washed his hands, eyes squinting shut at the burn in their stomach. "calm yourself," they chastised themselves and unclenched their jaw to let out a slow breath. a quick splash of water to clean off their face and they were done.
stepping out the back again, now in their coat and back pack slung over one shoulder, they locked the door and headed to the alleyway to go out to the street. as they reached the mouth of the corridor, they noticed the silhouette leaning against the wall. even in the mixed yellow glow and neon light pollution, blurred by the dull roar of a headache from a long day of work and constant strung out exhaustion; even then, he knew who that silhouette belonged to. it wasn't until kiran was five steps away that they were sure he was real. they bent their head back towards few stars visible a silent plea to the universe...
not tonight, not now, i can't do this right now. please, have mercy on me.
he lowered his head again to the same view, only this time getting a glimpse of distinct glowing blue irises which were yet another confirmation he already didn't need. another fuck you from the universe. what else is new? "what are you doing here, dara?"

hi, stranger on the internets
could you please finish the sentence im very curious about what mian mir did. thanks!
Hazrat Mian Mir's darbar is within walking distance of my house so his relation to Lahore's history was one of the first history tid-bits I picked up. There's plenty of stories about his spiritual teachings. About how Dara Shikoh made him his spiritual guide. How he gained importance to the Sikh community because of his long time friendship with Guru Arjun. How Ranjit Singh paid homage to his memory by constructing a marble tomb for him which still stands today. How his love for music is honoured by Qawwali performances every Thursday night. How his followers founded a village next to his darbar. How the British decided to set up a Cantonment right next to said village. Etc etc. hard to summarize. What I can do for you is share some fragments about him from Manan Ahmed Asif's book (because I rather like the way he wrote about Mian Mir).

2025 is shaping up to be an exciting year as Ajay Devgn returns as Jassi in Son of Sardaar 2, the biggest family entertainer of the year, hitting screens this August. FOUR *PROBLEMS*, ONE SARDAAR! *From falling for jootha pyaar, getting tangled with four crazy women, and getting caught in the crossfire of the mafia, to being stuck with Bebe da vaada — Jassi’s life is a ticking time bomb of chaos and comedy.*
Highlighting how Jassi is pulled in every direction, by emotions, confusion, and full-blown chaos, the Duja Trailer puts the spotlight on *how a Sardaar may stumble, but when he stands… he stands tall, because giving up is never an option!*
Directed by Vijay Kumar Arora, the film boasts a power packed starcast featuring Ravi Kishan, Sanjay Mishra, Mrunal Thakur, Neeru Bajwa, Chunky Panday, Kubbra Sait, Deepak Dobriyal, Vindu Dara Singh, Roshni Walia, Sharat Saxena, Ashwini Kalsekar, Sahil Mehta and the late Mukul Dev.

who: @eatabug ( dara ) where: central market
they'd been on the way to work when they heard the noise. it was hard to miss and instantly they'd covered their ears. from outside central market, looking up, it looked like the sun had been blacked out by something. but it wasn't just something, it was moving and descending upon the market not more than one hundred yards away. no sooner than they could step out of the way, there were people running out and screaming. the chaos was something to behold. truly something that kiran had only seen in historical footage or read in books.
he tried to move closer in short spurts, but it was over before he could even get remotely close to the gate. before the crowd had started to thin, however, they weren't able to miss those glowing blue eyes amongst those trying to get out. then they saw them disappear and if they hadn't known dara was in town they would've accused their brain of playing tricks on them. but they know what they saw. when the crowd finally thinned their fear was confirmed when they saw his lithe frame on the ground.
kiran hesitated. when they'd last left each other dara had poured their heart out to him and apologized. then told him why they knew he was in town, about the request of his brother. and while kiran had already been conflicted about believing him or not, that request didn't help matters any. he still didn't know if he wanted to break down those freshly built walls around his still very shattered heart, if he truly had one anymore, just to let it get incinerated by the other again and this time it would be their fault for falling for it! if he went over there now, he knew it was a confirmation that he still cared.
truthfully it didn't need to be confirmed, he'd been lying to himself for months saying dara didn't care about him and that he never cared about dara, that it was never meant to be. that he should've killed him when the opportunity was there. all lies. the thing that need only prove it was seeing dara try to get up and stand. all hesitation left kiran and it was revealed those walls were made of cardboard around that small piece of heart that dara didn't have possession of still. kiran took off running, weaving throughout the remnants of people and stepping around debris to get to where dara was trying to walk.
"hey, stop it! dara you can't move you could be seriously fucked," they reached him and immediately took hold of him to hold him in place. "dara," kiran snapped their fingers in front of his face. "do you know where you are? your name?" the eye test for a concussion would likely be worthless with his mutation so kiran resorted to questions they knew dara could answer fast. "what's seven hundred six minus two hundred forty eight?" while he answered they put his arm around their shoulders and wrapped one of theirs are his waist so that they were almost carrying him when all is said and done. "put your weight on me. i don't care if you can feel it or not yet. c'mon we need to get you somewhere with cover, my house is close."

they insult Graham Staines as predator in fact he was helping tribal women for medical care
Looked this up, thanks.
Graham Staines was a Christian missionary who along with his two sons, was burnt to death in India by members of the Bajrang Dal. Bajrang Dal activist Dara Singh and Mahendra Hembram were convicted of leading the murderers and was sentenced to life in prison in 2003. Mahendra Hembram was released recently on account of "good behaviour" lmao.
Couldn't find anything on him being a predator except a few tweets from hindutva handles, looks like absolute bs to me. You know how it is.
