David Pearson and Richard Petty finished one-two 63 times. They finished in this particular order 33 times.
How’s this for a crazy stat…93 of Richard Petty’s 200 Cup wins came in races where David Pearson wasn’t in the field.
Pearson only scored eight of his 105 Cup wins in races were Petty wasn’t entered. The “what if” list is long in the history of NASCAR, but it’s almost inconceivable to think what the record books may look like if Pearson desired to run full time in the seventies.

Typography Summer School 2018 (http://typographysummerschool.org) with Fraser Muggeridge. Brief 1: Bringing 2 different wikipedia articles in a clear design based system. My one combines two professional sport characters: Andrew Reynolds (Skater) and Mehmet Scholl (Football player) and deals with the similarity in these two sports.

RIP David Pearson, The Silver Fox. The only driver besides Richard Petty to win 100+ races (105 to be exact) in NASCAR's Cup series. He enjoyed gray success driving Banjo Matthew's #6 Dodge and the #17 Holman-Moody Ford, during the 1960's, but many remember him best for his highly successful run in the 1970's, driving The Wood Brother's #21 Mercury. One of the greatest, ever. #davidpearson #thesilverfox #nascar #woodbrothers #holmanmoody #banjomatthews #ford #dodge #racing #stockcar #monsterenergycup #winstoncup (at Asheville, North Carolina) https://www.instagram.com/p/BqH-Iu6ACO-/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=98o2scj2qf1c

I felt very inspired listening to David Pearson talk about his work. One of the most interesting parts - I thought - was the way he experimented with different processes in order to come to a final outcome. This inspired me to use more than just graphics design for the book cover.

David Pearson
David Pearson used to work for Penguin before setting up his own publishing company, therefore he knows a bit about book design. However, his designs are based more around typography. As he said in his recent talk at AUB, type is what he knows and what he feels comfortable with.
Therefore, due to my designs needing a large amount of work with the typographical side of the design David was the best person to be inspired by. His work doesn’t always dominate with type however his type is usually more expressive and playful than general designs.

Quote
I think I try and gain a way in by presenting readers with something familiar (in the case of Great Ideas this was the history of the printed word). With this in place, it is then possible to layer interesting new meaning on top and to play with the form in unexpected ways. These minor subversions are essential in elevating the work beyond pastiche. Readers can only enjoy the rules being broken if they have a strong sense of them in the first place and using historical models greatly helps on this front.
David Pearson, designer (of, among other things, Penguin's Great Ideas series). From this interview.
