I post that Kim thing because I had a similar experience. Kissed a guy once. Didn't care for it. Kiss a girl once. Didn't care for it. Should of probably been the sign that I just wasn't interested or ace then and there. ...Well its either that or I am like...deepcore Demi.

TP Scratch Writing: Deepcore Marina
Jim watched, relieved, as the Victory slowly put into dock. The massive man-o-war was quite out of place here on Wynboro, but Jim had never been happier to see his ship, his crew, and, more importantly, his best friend.
He could hardly contain his anticipation as the stairwell rotated into position, and it seemed he wasn’t the only one. No sooner had the ramp been erected then Onyx appeared at its top. Even from this distance, Jim could see the relief in his expression—as if all tension had suddenly bled out of his friend’s sturdy posture.
“Commander!” Onyx cried as Jim took the steps two at a time, both men finally meeting again at last. Before Jim could open his mouth in greeting, Onyx had wrapped both arms around Jim in a burly hug, startling the young commander.
“I’m alright, Onyx,” Jim assured him, giving him a quick pat on the back in return, smiling slightly. It was rare Onyx was so open with his affections. Jim’s disappearance must have really rattled him. “Though, I might not be in a minute,” he grunted, his back aching slightly from Onyx’s strength of arms.
“My apologies, Commander,” Onyx pulled back at once, though he did keep his massive hands on Jim’s shoulders to assess him proper. “You look worse for wear, Jim. Are you alright? Should I fetch Thompson?”
“A little rough around the edges,” Jim agreed, “but nothing serious. I’m glad my message rocket reached you.”
“It was very fortunate, Sir. Do you know who kidnapped you and why?”
“Somewhat,” Jim frowned. “We need to talk, but first how are the crew? How is the ship?”
“See for yourself,” Onyx smiled as he turned aside to reveal much of the crew giving their officers space.
“Welcome back, Commander,” Jim’s bosun spoke up. “We were right worried about you!”
“Sorry to give you all such a scare,” Jim laughed. “I promise to explain everything shortly. First, Pickerrews, I want you to finish coordinating the remaining docking procedures with the harbormaster. Onyx and I need to debrief.”
“Of course, Commander,” Pickerrews saluted as he relayed orders to the remainder of the crew. Jim’s deckhands were quick to return to work at their orders but not before giving Jim pleased smiles, slapping him on the back as he passed, or cheering his health.
Jim led Onyx up to his stateroom, closing off the noise from the deck as Morph hovered over his shoulder.
“Perhaps a glass of Zandarian red, Sir?” Onyx suggested, nodding to Jim’s cabinet.
“That sounds fantastic,” Jim agreed as he withdrew two crystal glasses from his desk drawer while Onyx fetched the bottle, Morph oooing at the contents. As Onyx poured, he spoke.
“I suppose I should start. When you did not return to the Victory at your specified time, I suspected something was amiss, but I did not truly recognize the gravity of the situation until we were nearing our designated departure. For that, I apologize, Jim. I should not have assumed distraction on your part and ignored sense.”
Jim waved him off and gestured for him to continue as he took a sip of his drink.
“As soon as I became aware of your absence, however, I followed up with the harbormaster and Admiral Curlington. When neither could report on your whereabouts, I organized a search party among our crew. That was where we discovered the evidence of an altercation along with the note designating you as bought and paid for.”
“The bounty,” Jim said, and Onyx nodded.
“If I had acted sooner, Commander, I might have—”
“Don’t,” Jim cut him off. “You did nothing wrong, Onyx. I won’t hear of any blame being passed to you.”
Onyx smiled softly as Jim grinned back, simply pleased to be with his friend once more.
“Of course, Sir,” Onyx relented as he then contributed his account, “I immediately informed local law enforcement to shut down the port to halt any suspicious ships from casting off, but it appeared we were too late by then. The bounty, however, denoted that the buyer would be awaiting their…shipment,” Onyx’s normally stoic expression shifted to one of disgust, “at Deepcore Marina.”
“That’s what the pirates who kidnapped me told me where we were headed,” Jim broke in, frowning.
“Did they explain why you were requested?” Onyx rumbled.
“No, that’s still a mystery. I have no idea who wants me and why.”
“This is disturbing, Commander. Deepcore Marina is no mere pirate base either.”
“That’s what Silver mentioned,” Jim sighed, rubbing his eyes.
“Silver?” Onyx lifted his rocky brows. “You have spoken to Silver?”
“He’s how I escaped,” Jim chuckled as he proceeded to explain his half of the story now with many a contribution from Morph who was all too excited to re-enact his own part in helping Jim break free. “Silver is here on Wynboro trying to secure a ship at the moment. I thought it best that, even with his pardon, he keeps out of sight of the navy for now.”
“That is wise,” Onyx agreed. “In such a case, perhaps Silver’s knowledge may be beneficial in bringing this unlawful trader to justice.”
“Yeah, it might be a bit trickier than that,” Jim grumbled. “He has very limited knowledge of the marina due to its ties to an underground slave trade. He’s dealt in smuggling, sure, but he’s never stooped to that level.”
“And the navy cannot attack outright due to the marina’s economic affiliations. Unfortunately, while it is highly likely the marina is a front for trafficking, they are still mere allegations, and to confront openly would be considered treason on record.”
Jim scowled as he planted his knuckles on his desk, staring hard down at his open star chart Onyx had no doubt unrolled in his absence.
“Can’t believe the navy won’t even bother to investigate these claims. Silver warned me that if we involved a superior officer we likely wouldn’t be taken seriously, and I’m starting to think he was right.”
“We have irrefutable proof in our possession that the person who placed a bounty on your head is operating out of Deepcore Marina,” Onyx pressed.
“Operating out of, but that doesn’t mean the head of their organization is planted there,” Jim retorted.
“Then what is your decision, Commander?” Onyx asked.
Jim glanced at Morph who warbled at him before Jim turned his steely gaze back to Onyx.
“It’s going to take some proper planning, but we need to investigate further. I want to visit this Deepcore Marina,” Jim asserted, straightening up.
“Even if it goes against our orders?” Onyx asked, but while his tone was unimpressed, his face was alight with a quiet vengeance.
“I can request a temporary shore-leave for the crew,” Jim’s mouth cleaved up in a wicked grin. “After all, we’ve been through a bit of a traumatic experience, haven’t we?”
Onyx, recognizing the regulation Jim was citing and planning to use against their superiors, couldn’t help but crack his own smile despite his best efforts. Usually, when Jim was this cheeky, he preferred to halt his commander before he pulled them all headlong into greater trouble, but in this instance, Onyx found himself rather taken by the spirit of revenge. Someone had come after his superior officer. Not only that, they’d nearly successfully abducted his best friend. The fear had been insurmountable in those days where Onyx feared he would never see Jim again, and for that, he was quite alright with bringing such a criminal to justice no matter the cost.
“Shall I draw up the paperwork, Sir, while you rest?” he asked.
“I’ll rest later. Right now, we’ve got a lot to do, Mister Onyx.”
And he raised his glass, Onyx doing the same, as the two tapped them together.
~*~*~*~*~
A/N: This was just some scratch writing I did based on a short story I wrote a while ago called "Serendipity". I've been playing around with a wider story in my head just for fun: Jim and Silver teaming back up and having to blow the lid off of a whole underground network thing of piratical dealings located at a place called Deepcore Marina. This piece came about simply because I wanted to write a situation where Jim and Onyx are just being bros. It's not a full short story, more of a piece of a wider story I'm not sure I will ever write, but never say never!

𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒌𝒚𝒃𝒂𝒓𝒐𝒏𝒔
𝒂𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒐𝒔 𝒅𝒓
𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒗𝒊𝒆𝒘
The Skybarons are not kings or emperors; they are the merchant oligarchs who rose from the ashes of the Sundering to seize control over the fractured skylands. Ruthless, cunning, and visionary, they turned disaster into dominion by monopolizing trade routes, floating city construction, airship fleets, and magitech industries. Today, they are the de facto rulers of Aetheros.
𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒖𝒄𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒈𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒏𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆
𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒄𝒐𝒓𝒅 𝒐𝒇 𝒆𝒍𝒆𝒗𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏
An elite council formed by the seven most powerful Skybaron houses.
Meets in secret on Veritas, a neutral floating spire accessible only by invitation.
Purpose: regulate trade agreements, mediate baronial disputes, and enforce unified sky-tax policies.
Decisions are enforced by mutual fleets or contracted Sky Marshals.
𝒊𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒗𝒊𝒅𝒖𝒂𝒍 𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒔𝒆𝒔
Each Skybaron House is a self-governing city-state centered around their skyhold (floating city/metropolis). They maintain:
Private militaries: highly trained aerial guard divisions.
Fleet control: cargo, passenger, and private warship classes.
Economic monopolies: controlling specific industries, routes, or resources.
Guild patronage: each baron House sponsors Arcanist Guild branches and licenses artificers under exclusive contract.
𝒏𝒐𝒕𝒂𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝒔𝒌𝒚𝒃𝒂𝒓𝒐𝒏 𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒔𝒆𝒔
𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒔𝒆 𝑽𝒂𝒆𝒍𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒐𝒎
Domain: Aether-Engine Manufacturing and Deepcore Mining
Skyhold: Eidolon, an industrial megacity built atop a layered floating plate system.
Culture: Cold, disciplined, militaristic. Brutalist architecture, black iron towers, constant steam and smoke.
Traits: Most powerful and feared. Known for harsh labor laws, elite enginewright academies, and a zero-tolerance policy for piracy.
Rumors: Their Foundry Depths mine is too close to an unstable ley zone—workers go missing in the dark.
𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒔𝒆 𝑫𝒓𝒂𝒆𝒍𝒆𝒏
Domain: Skyship Manufacturing, Privateer Contracts, Historical Salvage
Skyhold: Vespara, a sprawling shipyard city with tiered docks, ship towers, and suspended drydocks.
Culture: Lavish, cutthroat, flamboyant. Wealth flaunted through gilded hulls and elaborate figureheads.
Traits: Maintain fleets of privateers to harass rivals under sanctioned writs.
Rumors: Secretly funds Free Skies defectors for sabotage missions against other barons.
𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒔𝒆 𝑺𝒐𝒍𝒎𝒊𝒓𝒂
Domain: Runic Automation and Enchantment Infrastructure
Skyhold: Solmyre (yes they named it after themselves), an elegant city of marble towers, mirror-glass bridges, and suspended gardens.
Culture: Quiet, elegant, and secretive, with a powerful inner court.
Traits: Invented mass-scale automaton labor systems. Their cities are unnaturally clean, orderly, and efficient.
Rumors: Their lower districts are rumored to house hidden labs experimenting on ley-corrupted automatons.
𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒔𝒆 𝑪𝒂𝒓𝒓𝒐𝒘𝒆
Domain: Weaponry, Explosives, and Militarized Alchemy
Skyhold: Titanis, a floating fortress city built around an active aether-reactor core.
Culture: Pragmatic, blunt, and militaristic, with an ever-present smell of gunpowder and smelted steel.
Traits: Manufactures nearly half the weapons used across Aetheros. Exports volatile alchemical shells for baronial wars.
Rumors: Their core is cracked, leaking aetheric fumes into lower decks, mutating workers in secret.
𝒄𝒖𝒍𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒑𝒉𝒊𝒍𝒐𝒔𝒐𝒑𝒉𝒚
𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒌𝒚𝒃𝒂𝒓𝒐𝒏 𝒄𝒓𝒆𝒆𝒅
“Flight is freedom. Ownership is power. The skies belong to those who can pay the toll.”
Hierarchy: Skybarons at the top, with nobles, licensed artificers, and guildmasters beneath.
View of Beastfolk: Varies by house; most see them as fully fledged citizens, but others only regard them as cheap labor or exotic mercenaries.
View of Automatons: Tools. Even sentient constructs are treated as property unless unbound (illegal).
View of True Magic: Feared, outlawed, but secretly desired for its strategic potential.
Other notes:
Legacy is everything. Skybarons obsess over lineage, inheritance, and cementing their names into the annals of the skies.
Ruthless politicking, arranged marriages, blackmail, and assassination are standard practice.
Artificers are prized possessions, treated with luxury… and chains.
𝒎𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒂𝒓𝒚 𝒑𝒐𝒘𝒆𝒓
Each House maintains a private fleet:
Corsair-class raiders for fast interception.
Dreadnoughts equipped with alchemical cannon arrays.
Sky Marines trained in boarding tactics, sabotage, and leyline hazard protocols.
House Vaelstrom’s “Stormbreakers” are the most elite soldiers in Aetheros.
𝒍𝒂𝒘𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒆𝒏𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒄𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕
Each Skyhold has its own legal code, but all obey Concord rulings:
Sky Tax: tariffs on all ship cargo passing through controlled airspace.
Runic Licensing: unauthorized rune use punishable by fines, imprisonment, or indenture.
Artificer Registration: unlicensed artificing is treason-level crime.
Magic Prohibition: True magic users are to be executed or delivered to Guild custody.
Enforcement is carried out by House Marshals, Guild Inspectors, and contracted Sky Marshal detachments.
𝒓𝒖𝒎𝒐𝒓𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒔𝒆𝒄𝒓𝒆𝒕𝒔
The Concord of Elevation may be fracturing internally. House Vaelstrom’s expansion threatens House Draelen’s routes.
Some barons fund Free Skies cells to weaken rivals.
There are whispered “Arcane Stockpiles”—hidden vaults where barons hoard pre-Sundering artifacts and forbidden magics, preparing for an inevitable second Sundering.
𝒆𝒙𝒕𝒓𝒂
Ok so the skybarons are not people you wanna mess with. Which is of course why I'm gonna try and completely destabilize the system. Idk why I literally scripted in a capitalistic dystopia, but we're vibing I guess.
I promise I'll talk more about some of the other groups soon, like the Arcanist guild and the Free Skies Coelition, but I thought I'd start with the Barons, seeing as the literally rule the world.
Also, just a note in case I forgot to mention it, the Sky Marshals are basically the police in this world, and aren't technically affiliated with any barony, but at the same time, they can be paid off.

Ed Harris has publicly refused to speak about his experiences working on "The Abyss" (1989), saying, "I'm not talking about 'The Abyss' and I never will." One of the few things he said about it was "Asking me how I was treated on 'The Abyss' is like asking a soldier how he was treated in Vietnam." Similarly, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio said, "'The Abyss' was a lot of things. Fun to make was not one of them."
Cast members had to become certified divers before filming began. The Deepcore crew started training together in the Caribbean one month before filming, in order to create a sense of camaraderie. Harris was not among them, as he was still filming another movie, so he got his certificate while training in a lake nearby. The actors playing the SEALs received a separate, military training. At the end of the shoot, Harris was the most accomplished diver (near-professional level) despite not having trained a single day in the actual ocean.
During underwater filming, Harris almost drowned a few times. One time was while filming the scene where he had to swim without a suit at the bottom of the submerged set, and the safety diver took very long to hand him a breathing regulator. However, the closest call came during the descent into the Abyss. Harris was wearing a helmet filled with liquid, and had to hold his breath while he was towed along a set. When he ran out of air, he gave the signal for oxygen, but his safety diver got hung up on a cable and could not get to him. Another crew member gave Harris a regulator, but it was upside down and caused him to suck in water. Underwater cinematographer Al Giddings saw what happened, ripped the upside down regulator, and gave him his own in the correct orientation. Later that evening, Ed broke down and cried.
The studio was considering Mel Gibson, Dennis Quaid, William Hurt, Harrison Ford, Kurt Russell and Patrick Swayze for the role of Virgil 'Bud' Brigman. Cameron suggested Ed Harris, but the studio was concerned about his lack of experience as leading man, as well as his receding hairline (something that Cameron felt added to his everyman appeal). Harris convinced the studio with a screen test where he wore a motorcycle helmet as a diving helmet. (IMDb)
Happy Birthday, Ed Harris!
