people hating on others playing/preferring default femshep are so boring and predictable. can’t you find something else to care about

One of the strongest points of Mass Effect, if not the strongest, is just how well written the characters are. From Shepard, to the squad, to the side characters like Anderson and Bakara, to barely-there NPCs like Ereba and Charr the lovers, Etarn Tiro the enthusiastic turian merchant, Kargesh the krogan who wanted a fish, Lia'Vael, the quarian who gets falsely accused of theft, and the Salarian who wants to buy a memento to his asari lover to remember him by once he's dead.

I feel like so many of them are memorable, and they all serve a purpose to the overall world building. The krogan show that they are not the violent thugs the galaxy has made them out to be. The salarian shows the struggle born out of building relationships with people of a species with a life expectancy so beyond your own. Lia'Vael illustrates what Tali says about the quarians being treated like second class citizens. Those small little side quests have a meaning and a purpose, it doesnt feel like they are Just There, and they add more to the lore of them game to those who care about that stuff.

I have played through the mass effect series a multitude of times and each time i start again i cant convince myself to make a custom character. Its only default femshep, anything else doesnt feel like Shepard to me. I could make a custom character but i know that halfway through mass effect 1 ill get all weird about regretting not using our beloved redhead as she exists to begin with and ill have to start over. I feel like i cant be alone in this.

The thing about a Mass Effect show or movie is that they'll probably go with MaleShep, whereas when I think of Shepard I immediately think of FemShep. MaleShep is just some guy to me. Some guy with special eyes

Was wondering how my Shepard would look like with the default femshep hairstyle vs the one I draw her with usually and let me tell you…I just somehow created a whole other Shepard doing that 💀

I saw the whole "Clearly femshep was canon because of this animation test" thing again and I feel like I have to say:

1) They always knew Shepard was gonna be a customizable character, they had just finished a female human model first

2) The mocap animation was originally from Jade Empire. They were testing models using animation from a previous game (wow BioWare reusing animations???? In MY RPG games????)

Considering that female Shepard didn't even have an actual unique default look until ME3 and also said look was voted on by players, saying that Shepard was canonically going to be just a woman is, like. Very Wrong
