A new merch line got announced, and the theme is yokai (which is. actually fucking pog?)

then the character selection feels like an actual lottery ticket, because generally Naruto merch lines include team 7 in full + some other token protagonist-alinghed character + 2-3 members of Akatsuki with Itachi, Deidara or both being selected as they are by far the most popular ones among Akatsuki. Pretty often if both get chosen then we get the next one in terms of popularity which is Sasori. So you can imagine why I am rolling on the ground wheezing from the fact that along with Deidara and his first "Uchiha-induced crisis" we actually got his second "Uchiha-induced crisis" in Obito. Like. Holy holy holy fuck.

The yokais that the characters are supposed to be representing are a bit weird at times, but pretty cool anyway. My knowledge of yokai is pretty limited and mostly derived from whatever the hell I remember from Persona series and Genshin Impact LMAO, but I am pretty sure that Naruto is supposed to be a kitsune (which is. duh.), Sasuke is something like Yamata no Orochi(?), Sakura is a nekomata (I guess they just wanted a catgirl in the merchline), I am not exactly sure about the next three, and Deidara is a kasa-obake (these are playful yokai that are portrayed as having one eye, one leg and a giant tongue which is. honestly. really funny and fitting for Deidara) and Obito is a tengu (which is a weird choice considering that Itachi would have likely been a better fit for an avian/crow-like yokai? but he looks sick anyway, and I guess tengu do have long red noses that are oftentimes represented by tengu wearing a mask with an elongated nose, which would connect Obito to this particular yokai?)

anyway I am off to shake with my whole body for a few hours, holy shit this is so good

(also respect to the designers in recent years that started to realize that Itachi simply looks better with glasses)

even older art from the same sketchbook of Kabuto and Deidara’s squish on him (not a ship) O_o I like to thing when Kabuto (extremely underrated character btw) was a spy for Iwa these two met (Deidara started following him and calling him a nerd and “foureyes” and a bookworm.)

Idk it happened in a filler, but it was sweet when Kabuto said something along the lines of “Do as you want, Deidara, freedom suits you well”. And in a canonical interaction, Deidara refers to Kabuto as a bookworm. Happens to be, Sasori also called Kabuto scrawny, too.
