[-Welcome to DeityTale-]

(Intro) There was a legend that tells of the God of Balance, named Kinkou. The deity had resembled and maintained the balance of both life and death, dating way back to the creation of existence itself. Though one day, as the mortal society grew, the balance became harder to maintain on his own, which he found a huge problem. As solution, he would split his soul in two, thus splitting his very being into two counterparts. The two new deities were now known as Sei, the god of life, and Shi, the god of death. They have taken the form of Sans, but with a more godly appearance. Now the two siblings act as a natural order, making sure things live and die as should.

(The Cast) "均衡 - Kinkou, the God of Balance." The original God and creator. As mentioned, he was the original being and the keeper of the balance between life and death, making sure existence stays stable. He's also the creator of DeityTale's realm and the Tree of Balance.

"生 - Sei, the God of Life." Kinkou's first half. He is the being of creation and evolution, nurturing life and guiding it to flourish. Some societies and other mortals often seek out his aid to overcome the many challenges life may bring and become prosperous in each endeavor. (Needs to be redrawn)

"死 - Shi, the God of Death." Kinkou's other half. The being of death and decease. He reaps the souls of the deceased, leading them down the path to the afterlife. Some may fear him or believe he is evil god, though he is only a benevolent being thats bound to enforce the balance between the forces of nature. (Needs to be redrawn)

(Where They Live) DeityTale takes place in a realm within the skies that was created by Kinkou. It was a large and vast meadow that's split into two parts. The meadow was divided by the Tree of Balance, a tree that was half spirited and well, and half deceased and decayed. Sei's side of the meadow was full of life. The flowers are blooming and the skies were blue and clear. Whereas Shi's side of the meadow was dull and decayed. The sky was a dull orange, and the grass and flowers had been decayed. (Image below is a placeholder, I'll draw the actual meadow soon)

(Extra) The two siblings often struggle to maintain order between life and death between universes. They strive to prevent one from overcoming the other. Although they are opposites, they are the key to the balance of existence within the multiverse.

(Side Note) This AU was heavily inspired by both the DreamTale and ReaperTale AUs. I basically combined the two ideas together and that's how DeityTale was born pretty much. (Feel free to ask questions, would be appreciated. :D)

Flufftober 2020: Day Six

Sometimes Reaper hated the cruel fate that doomed him to an existence as the deity of death. Sometimes he wished that he could cast off his cloak and scythe and live as normal monsters and humans did. Sometimes he couldn’t even bear to look at the poor suffering SOULs that he collected as the living transitioned into death. Guiding them to the afterlife was a thankless task, and sometimes he wanted out.

Today happened to be one of those days. It always hurt the worst when the SOUL he arrived to gather belonged to someone young, someone who had barely begun to experience life. Those deaths weighed the heaviest on him as he shepherded the tiny SOULs away from the bodies that they had abandoned far too soon.

The fact that no living creature could offer him the slightest physical comfort only added to his burden. The dead rarely waited around to chat, viewing him only as the harbinger of their demise, and his fatal touch meant that he could never risk receiving even the tiniest gesture of solace- a touch on the cheek, a head rested upon a welcoming shoulder, a supportive arm slung casually around the back- without killing the person who sought to help him.

His was a lonely life of isolation without end, and on days like today, despite the singing birds and blooming flowers, it seemed like his own personal hell. To escape his responsibilities and the pity he saw in the eyes of the other deities that he called friends, he fled to the Void. The vast, dark nothingness of the Void echoed the emptiness inside of him… at least it usually did. Today, though, the Void had a visitor.

It was strange to see another skeleton monster interrupting the murky darkness of the Void. The other skeleton seemed to be fighting (and losing) his own emotional battle, curled up with his knees held against his chest, one eye staring but seeing nothing. Reaper considered making a hasty exit to another timeline, but the stranger intrigued him. He crept closer, observing the newcomer.

The other skeleton’s clothing was torn, showing a wound across his chest, and an odd glitch partially obscured his face. Something bright red, possibly blood leaked in thin lines from his mouth. A long, equally red scarf unfurled behind him, moving as if touched by a breeze though no air stirred in the Void. Surprisingly, the skeleton emitted no signals of life beyond the fact that he shifted in his spot every now and again. Reaper knew the dead when he saw them, and he could see the auras of the living. This monster was neither.

Mortal eyes (or eyelights) could not recognize immortal beings, yet the moment Reaper stepped into the other skeleton’s line of sight, the stranger leapt to his feet, throwing his arms out as if to ward off an attack. Reaper recoiled, a natural reaction for someone whose touch killed instantly, but he moved too slowly. The other skeleton’s hand brushed his face, and he braced himself, waiting for the inevitable collapse and appearance of a dispossessed SOUL.

Nothing happened.

The stranger scrambled backwards a few paces and stared at him. Reaper supposed he must look alarming- an amorphous mass sensed but indiscernible against a backdrop of inky blackness, with only the pale hint of a skull and gleaming blue eyelights visible. He extended his arms past the sleeves of his cloak and lowered his hood.

“Do not be afraid, mortal,” Reaper intoned, but the visitor interrupted him by barking out a humorless laugh. Reaper continued, all bravado lost. “I’m, uh, Reaper, the, um, deity of death.”

“You missed your chance then, friendo,” answered the stranger. “I’ve been dead for a while now; only the Determination keeps me going.”

Reaper cleared his throat awkwardly. “I’m not actually here to, uh, collect you,” he admitted. “I’m actually… on break.”

The other skeleton laughed a little more gently this time. “That’s a relief, probably. Do you come here to hide away from the world too?”

Reaper nodded.

“I’m Geno,” said the other skeleton, reaching out to shake Reaper’s hand. Reaper yanked his hand away, but again, he wasn’t quick enough. Geno shook his hand only once, letting it drop when he noticed Reaper’s discomfort. “Something wrong?”

Reaper stared at his hand in wonder, then glanced up at Geno, meeting the other skeleton’s eyelights. “I can’t… touch people,” he explained, though the words were clearly untrue. “My touch kills.”

“Not me it doesn’t.” Geno sounded proud but also a bit melancholy.

“I’ve seen too much death today anyway,” sighed Reaper, sitting down on the ground. Geno sat down beside him, not touching, but with very little distance between them. “Me too.” Scenes from a plethora of genocide timelines played in his mind. He’d come here to escape them. “Timelines without mercy… they all live up here.” He tapped the side of his skull.

Reaper nodded again. The inescapability of the deaths they’d experienced was a trauma they shared. Tentatively, Reaper stretched out his hand and rested it on Geno’s hand. The other skeleton didn’t move away.

Death smiled.

Shared visits to the Void became a regular occurrence with the two skeletons. Each had his own reasons for being there, and they found a reprieve from their overwhelming sorrows in each other’s company. Often they sat side-by-side, hands touching and no words spoken to break the solemn silence. Other times they spoke of their sorrows, offering consoling hugs or an empathetic shoulder to cry on as they fought to cast out their personal demons.

“Do you remember when we first met?” Reaper asked Geno on a quieter visit to the Void, one made for companionship and not to flee from his responsibilities. He suspected that Geno often had similar reasons for making so many trips to the infinite nothingness from his usual residence- the Save Screen.

“Of course.” Geno leaned against Reaper. “I wanted to escape the horrors of the past, and you were avoiding a bleak future.”

“Yeah,” agreed Reaper. “The past is full of unreconciled suffering, and the future is still a dismal prospect, but the here and now? Well… that I kind of like.”

With those words he leaned over and planted a kiss on Geno’s mouth.

Idea for how Deitytale's Toriel could smell like: Since Toriel is goddess of maternity and motherhood, when people are near her, they feel they smell scent of something they connect in their mind to positive maternality/parentality. To explain with example: The person haves fond memories of maternal character, for example their mother, and their mother smelled like fresh bread and soap, Toriel's scent would smell like fresh bread and soap to this person. (and flowers). Sorry if weird idea xD

Little behind the scenes for the outcodes I created:

- Slash, Besida, and Agni are from a universe called Deitytale! The Undertale cast are deities while Frisk and Chara are Toriel’s and Asgore’s champions

- Merc is heavily inspired by Dust and Killer’s designs minus the backstories. Merc and Con are brothers and are the multiverse’s mercenaries-for-hire. They will take on any job that pays well. Because of their pretty gray morality, a handful of other multiverse heroes have mixed feelings of the two

- The Wandering Void is inspired by Nightmare Sans and came from a shower thought. They feast on despair and negativity. While they can feast on other people’s, they have a persistent hunger for it, which is why they also devour universes that are filled with it. They also can change their form and how tall or short they are! But they’ll always be a shadowy form

- Glitch’s design is based off of those electronic eye masks and this cool design where parts of the arm are connected by some sort of electric current. He’s also my funky skrunkle who goes around to befriend anyone who’s lost their universe

- Phantom and Trance are my own takes on Dreamtale but they’re more focused on appearing in dreams or causing dreams/nightmares. They also work together! There’s also going to be a swapped AU but I still haven’t figured out what their designs are going to be

DT Sans: He stays calm most of the time. The problem is that he can figure out any little thing you have done. It is his job to judge and punish after all. Without knowing why, slowly everyone you know starts to disappear. Soon, all you’ll have is him. Be careful though, He’ll judge you too. And he won’t go easy on you just cause he loves you.

DT Papyrus: He plays mind games. He’ll get upset with you for hanging out with others and even get mad if you do it to much. He’ll then “forgive” you and say it was his fault. He’ll manipulate you into becoming dependent on him. If anyone tries to take you from him, he won’t forgive them. You don’t want to know what happens when the god of forgiveness won’t forgive you.

Iyrus (OverTale) the Baby Brother of the group. 8-year-old human experiment, nervous, angry, unstable, slowly dying. non-fusion. Sans and Papyrus counterparts: unknown. Deals in Mass, Raw Magics, Chemical Reactions, and Emotions. Soul: Affection (silver), with a glow of Perseverance (purple). Contains RaGe, DeTermination.

Serif (HumanTale) the “Human”. Brotherly, Awkward, Matured, Human Mage, militaristic, extensive PTSD. non-fusion. sans and papyrus counterparts: younger twin brothers. Deals with Space, Physical Plains, Mass, Physics, Resets. Soul: Affection (silver) with a glow of Perseverance (purple). Unusually high amounts of naturally occurring RaGe and DeTermination.

Xayrus (DeityTale) The “Goddess”. Loving, Sexual, Compassionate, Protective, Wise, Family-oriented. permafusion. Deals with love, sexuality, gender, family, hormones, chemical compounds, psychology, emotion. high amounts of both LOVE and Love.

SugarCube (BittyBones) The tiny bitty bones au version of sayrus that lives with mun counterpart and several other bitty fusions. Anxious, loves everyone, just wants to help. permafusion. Deals with Space, Time, Reality, and Gravity. contains DeTermination and KinDness.

Ruyss (PatchTale) The ‘full fusion’ containing Sans, Papyrus, sayrus, as well as the souls of ‘dissolved humans’ (Perseverance, Bravery, Patience, Justice, Kindness, Integrity, and the frisk/chara Determination souls). Unstable, Aggressive, conflicted, Permafused. deals with Space, Time, Reality, dimensions, void, and Gravity. highly paradoxical. can only exist in the Void. contact has been made.

While I’m on this posting/DeityTale (thinggy) train, I also drew Ganz’s UnderSwap Deity!Sans! Immediately after “finishing” him though, I thought ‘wait, if this is the swap AU, wouldn’t papyrus be the deity?’ So I drew Ganz’s Paps with a few of Sans’ items, what I remembered of antelope horns and something to smoke that would make sense for the time period! (I realize now that in Ganz’s drawing Paps is holding something up to his mouth, but for the life of me I cannot tell what it is >~>)

I’d also imagine that Papyrus would like incense around his shrine(s), with (swap)undyne supplying the most since I imagine her as an (alchemist/)chemist who combines different items to get the best scents. 

On the topic of his forest, I imagine Papyrus would be too lazy to do anything about the chaotic underbrush and thorns; which is probably why his worshipers stopped coming. His favored plants would be ones that attract honey bees, flowers with potent scents, and others that when consumed or scented, can have pleasant affects on the mind.

Sans in this version would most likely be a training samurai who stumbles upon one of Papyrus’ minor shrines. It looks old, made of stone and is sticking out of the ground with a rounded top. In the front, there is a squared off ledge in the shape of a rectangle(from birds-eye), close to the ground with a hole in it for a stick of incense. On the front of the shrine seems to be a carved image, so worn by time and covered in foliage that Sans can barely make out the long forgotten god. But through stories, rumors, and pieces left behind, he finds Papyrus’ main shrine and the god himself, though Papyrus has been watching since Sans first brushed off the foliage from the mini-shrine.

While swap!Paps being the god would make more sense, Swap!Sans being the god opens up so many ideas =w=

His shrine would be beautifully kept, with a few armors and blueberries around it. The blueberries are provided and cared for by one of his worshipers who saw him for a brief minute. Despite his insistence that he does “NOT LOOK AT ALL LIKE A BLUEBERRY”, “Blue’s” complaints fall upon deaf ears as that worshiper, like all the others, can no longer see or hear him. Despite the fact that he could easily… get rid of the plants, he found that they act as a nice reward for beings and their children who have traveled far to find his main shrine. Even if he can’t always bless their children, house and/or armor, they can always take some blueberries.

In Blue’s forest, the underbrush would be tightly kept, as there’s a thick canopy that opens only on the well made pathways. There are many beautiful flowers and bushes along the path, as they attract more worshipers, but there are also wide, open, sandy hollows with “strategically” placed tree trunks for honing one’s skills in battle.

Papyrus in this version would probably be a lone nomad, or hobo (take your pick) who happens upon Sans’ main shrine thinking he’s found shelter. Taking out a pipe, stuffing it with a few herbs and starting it with sparking rocks, Papyrus is resting when an alarmed Sans comes in at the scent of smoke in his not-completely-fireproof-shrine.

There’s a few beats of silence before Sans sighs and frowns, realizing it’s just a stupid mortal who bETTER NOT BURN HIS SH-

“Ya got a problem buddy?” the mortal asks, interrupting Sans’ thoughts. 

At this, the god was confused, he hadn’t heard anyone walk in, and a quick look around confirmed that. He took a step back to make sure he hadn’t accidentally phased through someone, but there was no one there except for Sans and Papyrus.

Realization struck Sans as he stared wide-socketed at the one mortal he had ever seen who was able to see a god.

There was more silence as many thoughts and emotions ran through him. For, except for the few gods and spirits he tried to befriend, Sans could never speak to anyone. Sure, he could scream and shout at mortals who upset him and murmur comforting words to the emotionally wounded who came to him, but they would never respond…

An odd look from the present mortal suddenly reminded Sans of his question. 

“UM, Y-YES! I DO HAVE A PROBLEM!” ‘great stutter Sans…’
