the mountain family just makes me sad... people (rightfully) get on demetrius' case for never acknowledging sebastian, but i've never seen robin acknowledge maru (hopefully i'm wrong and i'm only saying this is bc i don't talk to robin enough). maru wants to connect with seb but seb thinks she wants him gone... plus demetrius is really overprotective of maru (that combined with pierre and abigail + pam and penny makes me wonder why there's so many bad fathers in the game). no family is perfect of course, but a lot the mountain fam's issues could be solved by just talking to each other. but bc of the game's structure, it feels like they're forced to be this way forever...

i just think that like half of the "Demetrius is a bad stepfather to Sebastian" arguments stand entirely on infantilizing Sebastian?? like, guys, that's not your poor little mistreated baby boy, that's a grown-ass man who acts like an angsty 14-year old and is constantly just straight-up mean to his stepfather...
ALSO, Robin has ONE line of dialogue mentioning Maru.
ALSO ALSO, Sebastian mentions that Robin threw away his entire comics collection? why does everyone talk about how Demetrius told Sebastian to take down his snowman, but nobody says anything about the comics collection? like. that is indisputably about a hundred times worse.
ALSO ALSO ALSO, i think people are getting so distracted by their love of women who are mean to them that they hate Demetrius for being socially inept (cough, autistic) and yet think Robin is awesome for being incredibly rude to her husband, to the point where he jokes about how mean and short-tempered she is... IDK MAN. i juuust think there's a BIT of a double standard going on here
#sdv demetrius#demetrius sdv#notice how i'm not tagging R or S bc i actually have the basic fandom etiquette to not put negative posts about characters in their main ta#WOW what a concept. fans of a character don't search for them bc they want to see people being genuinely hateful toward something they like#GROUNDBREAKING.

Are we finally heading into the long awaited Desmond arc? 👀 It's hard to say yet, but my first thought upon reading the new chapter was that, like, 9 out of the 23 pages was just awkward silence at the dinner table 😬

Another thing that stood out to me within the first few panels was how different Damian seems at home than at school.

When he's rejected and inconvenienced by Demetrius and Max respectively, he keeps calm and doesn't get mad. On the contrary, he's very understanding and considerate. It's quite different from how he acts in similar situations at school where he's quick to lash out, especially at Anya of course. I'd like to think that what we're seeing in this chapter is more of the "real" Damian; a basically nice kid who longs for a normal childhood with a normal family, but unfortunately was born into the opposite...and because he's not free to openly express his frustration about this due to how uptight and estranged his parents are, he lets out a lot of his negative emotions at school instead. Anya is often the brunt of this due to how often she tries to interact with him in ways that he's not used to.
But anyway, back to the chapter itself, we're also introduced to a new butler at the Desmond house, Mary Jane.

Not sure how prominent of a character she'll be, but the fact that Endo gave her a name (which he doesn't always give to reoccurring characters) makes me think we'll see her again.
We also finally get to see Max and Damian interact. Despite being a German shepherd (I think), I like that Endo made him look distinct from Aaron. Though it seems like he has longish fur...maybe he's a mixed breed? Endo provided this cute illustration along with the chapter release too.

Among all the "Desmond family being awkward at dinner" panels we got, the one that stood out the most to me (and probably others) was this two-page spread.

Showing all of them in separate corners against total darkness, each seemingly in their own little world not looking at any of the others. This is very contrasting to how the Forger family meals are conveyed...

It really makes you wonder - which is the fake family and which is the real family?
A more subtle thing to note about the Desmond dinner is that Melinda never actually eats anything. Throughout all the panels, she's only seen drinking wine and never using her silverware. When she leaves, her plate hasn't been touched.

What I interpret from this based on what we know so far is that she has such an aversion to the Desmond house, and probably Donavan in particular, that she can't even bring herself to eat in his presence.
And lastly, I wanted to touch on the word that Donovan uses when describing the family dinner. In the Japanese version, he uses the word 有意な which means "significant," "valuable," "useful," "of interest," etc.

I got the impression that Damian doesn't know what that word means, which is why it's written in katakana when he asks Jeeves. He says "Hey Jeeves, what's ユーイギ?"

The English version makes it seem like he knows what the word "worthwhile" means, but not what Donovan meant by it in this situation, so slightly different nuance between the two versions.
That about wraps up my thoughts on the new chapter! Like I said in the beginning, I think it could be leading to a new arc focused on the Desmonds, or it could simply be a standalone chapter, and we'll focus on something else next time. Gotta wait and see~

Was Donovan trying to read the mind of his family members ?
Like some fans, I believe Donovan's scars on both sides of his forehead (which he didn't have as a kid, as we know thanks to Henderson's flashback) are proof that he had some sort of neurosurgery.

Some fans say it was to suppress unecessary emotions : he indeed only ever reacts neutrally, positively or negatively, using a few basic emotions like judgement, acknowledgement and disappointment (both in ch106 and ch38).
However, I'm also of the opinion that Donovan has a big link to the organization that experimented on Anya and maybe that neurosurgery was meant to give him "mind-reading" powers, similar to Anya's.
After all, he did say two things of the utmost importance to his characterization :

So basically “you can’t trust anyone but yourself”.
As such, thematically it makes sense that he's Twilight's entire mission, but also, as a man with so much distrust, he would definitely be interested in a project that would allow a peak into other people's thoughts.
Demetrius is also a good hint as to what could be up with Donovan :

The son Donovan used to be so invested in seems very similar to his father (my God, his eyes), but when Anya tried to hear his thoughts ?

What she rather got was that "pondering [about not understanding people] is a waste of time" for him. So maybe, when they used to spend time together, Donovan showed a lot of distrust towards his own son and taught him to trust no one, so much that Demetrius started to believe all people are an enigma to him.
And that makes sense : children learn from their parents' example, in most cases (take Anya with Twilight and Yor). So if your father is a man who hardcore believes everyone else lies, how would his son understand all the moratively complex dynamics that exist between many people ? Avoiding to think altogether would be less of a headache, for sure.
Lastly, Donovan's reaction about the family dinner is another good hint he maybe has mind reading powers : Melinda tried once to chat but quickly gave up, while Damian spent the entire meal mustering the courage to speak up, so what could decidedly be interesting since nothing was said ?

However if things were thought during dinner... well, it sure would give a different reading to this scene.
Bonus #1 : since Twilight's entire life is based on a lie (his name, his work, his family, maybe even his father, who knows), it makes absolute sense that the entire plot is about deciphering what Donovan and his plans are about.
The fact he keeps on getting emotionally trapped by four year old Anya, who can read his mind, makes it instantly ten times more intense if Donovan now also has mind reading powers.
Bonus #2 : the only other important character in the narrative, besides Anya, who is aware that mind reading is real is Damian.

He doesn't believe in it yet, but once he does, it's likely that his friendship with Anya will eventually make Damian realize a lot about what his father has been up to (in the meantime, Yor please, give Miranda the desire to fight for her sons' safety).
TL;DR maybe Donovan has (recent ?) mind reading powers (I'd even add Sigmund Authen's past as an esteemed neurology professor is related to the whole shenanigan).
The family dinner was just a way to make extra sure that no one in his family is plotting against him, hence the bodyguards at home, because how more dysfunctional can it get ?

look i’m not a fan of him but people’s intense hatred of demetrius stardew valley feels mildly racist to me. he never does anything *that* wrong. he’s a bit of an overbearing father and sometimes acts a little cluelessly, but he’s not a monster lol. i dont think what he does in game warrants the negative response from the fanbase personally.
#stardew valley#sdv demetrius#i could be wrong since people also seem to hate pierre and clint more than they probably deserve#plus i can imagine the way he treats sebastian could rub a lot of people the wrong way#but even then as somebody who once had a horrible step dad demetrius doesn’t even compare lol

Broi finally got Maru's heart event where demetrius threatens the player for getting close to Maru. And man i hate that guy.
Dude im MARRIED i have TWO KIDS. I AM A MILLIONAIRE. I have COMPLEX TECH ON MY FARMS. I USE MAGIC. MY DEAD GRNDFATHER PATTED ME ON THE SHOULDER AND TOLD HES PROUD OF ME.
"DOnt wAnT AnYThiNG geTTinG in thE WAy of HEr FUtuRe"
MATE THAT'S YOU. YOU ARE GETTING IN THE WAY OF HER FUTURE. YOU ARE LITERALLY SABOTAGING HER SOCIAL LIFE FOR YOUR EGO.
I know we are all in agreement here that Demetrius is the SOLE CAUSE of the rift between Seb and Maru.
But have you NOTICED who exactly Maru's friends are?? Penny (a teacher), and Harvey (her BOSS).
Though these are not the worst choices for friends (they are GOOD) but if you take into context Demetrius' warning toward the farmer, we can assume he did this to any person that might start to become friends with Maru.
Maru is outgoing and friendly, to the point where i could literally see her being friends with almost anyone. She doesn't even really like Harvey that much and hes still considered her "friend"
Now, out of everyone in the village, who do you think are the most unlikely to get the talk? A doctor and a teacher. Two "intellectual" and "educated" people who are unlikely to "affect" her future negatively.
SO SHUT UP DEMETRIUS. I HOPE SEB WATERBOARDS YOU WITH MOTOR OIL FOR BEING A BAD DAD
NOT ONLY HAVE YOU FAILED ONCE AT THIS DAD THING YOUVE FAILED T W I C E .
SO SHUT UP GO HOME AND READ THE BOOKS ROBIN GETS YOU BEFORE I GO ALL GALAXY HAMMER ON UR FLAT FLATULANCE
#honestly i think maru would be good friends with Abi#maru already goes into the mines and i think her knowledge would help abi and abi's rebelliousness would help Maru grow#i also think Maru and Haley would be fun friends#idk i just think haley and Maru would be like fun girly friends. weirdly enough i think theyd both bring each other down to earth#idk i feel like maru straightns her hair and has an extensive hair routine which haley would relate to#stardew valley#stardew#stardew maru#sdv maru#maru stardew valley#maru stardew#maru sdv#sdv demetrius#stardew valley demetrius#sdv sebastian#stardew sebastian#sebastion stardew#sebastion statdew valley#sebastion sdv#stardew meta#stardew analysis#stardew character analysis

Sebastian's Age
Ok please excuse me while I get autistically pedantic about this but I do not believe Sebastian is 2 years older than Maru. How would that even happen? He’s not 20. He’s not 22. Sebastian is 26.
FOLLOW ME OK LETS GO FOR A WALK.
Canon Facts:
Maru is his half-sister
Demetrius does not have a single line of dialogue about Sebastian
Sebastian has only negative things to say about his step father
Sebastian and Robin have no lines about a biological father
Are you telling me that Sebastian was raised by this man from infancy? He was raised from infancy, with this man as his only father figure, with Maru as his sister very close in age, and has no relationship with either of them?
Is it technically possible? Yes, I will give you that! But it is far less likely. Especially in fictive works, we have to consider the more likely scenario.
The more likely scenario being: Demetrius entered Sebastian’s life when he was old enough to reject him as a father figure. At the earliest, I would say seven years old. But even that feels young? The average seven year old will WANT a father figure unless something goes terribly wrong (which I headcanon it does, but thats another post). Then, a year or so later, Maru was born.
By my conservative calculations that puts Maru at 18 and Sebastian at 26 for the events of the game. And it makes sense! A 26 year old could absolutely be working as a freelance software developer, AND still live at home.
A 26 year old man can be emo. What would be stopping him, he works freelance and everything? Maybe you think he’s younger because of the band, but again, can’t someone be in a band at 26? He is a working adult with a hobby.
I guess if you really hated Demetrius you could headcanon that Demetrius refused to see Sebastian as his son, and then that would excuse how he could be younger and still not have a relationship with him. But you'd have to also assume Robin was a pretty lackluster mom to get married to a man who refused to even try to love her baby.
Maybe you'd excuse it as them having had a falling out. Maybe there was a time when they did see each other as family, and the relationship fell apart. Okay, I think you'd still have to do some mental gymnastics to explain how Robin had a baby with one man and then another baby with a different man almost immediately. Maybe if Sebastian was the product of a one-night stand, and Demetrius was fine taking in a woman and her newborn baby. But again that feels like more of a stretch to me.
DISCLAIMER: Im open to everyone having their own headcanons, its just odd to me how prevailing fanon has him at ~22 and Maru 20 when that does not make sense to me considering the family dynamic
Am I missing something? Do you agree? If you have an alternate explanation I will be checking reblogs of this post

Heatless Flame
Stardew Valley- Sebastian x Female!Farmer
Summary: Sebastian coming to the farm asking if you have any herbs to help with the rock crab wound he got in the caves and you help patch him up. He's silly goofy in love with the you. Fluff
notes: I'll typically try to do a gender neutral farmer but I'll specify when that isn't the case like with this fic. I use Y/N in this fic.
Tag: @victorylr
The ticking of the clock was far too loud as Sebastian lay in bed, eyes wide and locked onto the ceiling. His hands were folded on his chest but his fingers twitched with frustration and impatience. His skin was crawling as he tried his best to lay still and fall into sleep but it wouldn't take him and he knew that he'd have to get up and do something before his unsettled bones could rest.
That day had been nothing short of miserable. Work had been tedious, boring, and a general waste of time if it weren't for the paycheck. He'd gone upstairs to grab some lunch and instead had retreated right back down the stairs when he'd heard Demetrius and his mom start to bicker at one another. That had been a can of worms he hadn't felt like opening over a reheated slice of pizza. Everyone knew he'd pick his mom's side for whatever asinine thing they were at odds with and Demetrius would give him the stink eye like he shouldn't have been born. A regular Tuesday, really.
Since then he had remained in his room. Normally he wouldn't regret the reclusive day he had made for himself but as the clock ticked further into the night he was dying to do something fun. If it weren't for the brakes on his bike needing maintenance, he'd already be halfway to Zuzu City. Finally, his eyes locked onto a frozen tear that the farmer had gifted him last week for his birthday.
The frozen tear sparked an idea in his mind and off he went, tugging a beanie over his head and tugging on his favorite boots before he left his bedroom. He did his best to be quiet while he searched the dark garage for a leftover pick axe and a flashlight, courtesy of his mother. Snow crunching underfoot, he made his way to the haphazard wooden plank that pretended to be a bridge to the right of his home and he crossed it. It wobbled slightly, his stomach doing flips, and he wondered how it hadn't broken beneath the weight of the horse you rode across it every couple days.
Flashlight at the ready he walked to the back of the mine to where the elevator was poorly lit, like a beacon saving him from his boredom.
Pressing the button going down, Sebastian took a steadying breath. Immediately the metal doors slid open for him, with a slight groan and a loud creak. The impatience flooding his veins was gone now, replaced with excitement. Before the doors slid shut he wondered if he could find something pretty to gift you in return for your gift to him.
_
About five levels down and a backpack full of odd stones he found pleasant to the eye, Sebastian was wondering how in the hell you spent the entire week running back and forth to the mine. Not that he ever could truly complain about you stopping to say hello while he was out for his nightly smoke. You would wrinkle your nose if the wind blew towards you but never in disgust or judgment at his habit, however negative he knew it to be.
It was a secret he kept locked inside his heart but those were his favorite nights. Standing beside you at the lake while you recounted your day's events to him. The glow ring you had lit up the space around your hands as you waved them in the air happily. You were so full of life that it ran over your edges, seeping into him and filling him with a new vigor to do something. Those dreams of escaping to Zuzu City permanently once he had the means seemed so much smaller after meeting you. Without knowing it, you had given him so much, and he'd be damned if he didn't try and repay the effort.
Resettling his bag on his shoulders he climbed down the next ladder he had found. It had been nestled at the end of a long cave, right beside a line of tracks that led to a mine cart full of coal. He had pocketed some, maybe you could use it or Clint could buy it off him.
Nearly immediately after dropping into the cave he saw a curious looking stone that reflected back the beam from his flashlight in oranges and yellows. The cave seemed to glitter, like a heatless flame and he knew immediately that he needed to get this for you. The grin he was imagining you'd have was so brilliant he nearly stopped breathing. I might actually die if she smiles at me for real... He thought in passing as he took to working the stone. What was it?
Sebastian searched his head for thoughts that didn't scream you, you, you. It was hard when you had come to consume him. With a smile he pocketed the stone, the topaz. That's what it is, Topaz. The way the topaz had lit the room up reminded Sebastian of the way your glow ring sparkled off of your eyes when you shared your late night talks.
You were his heatless flame. Never there to hurt him or leave him burned or scarred, but always there to warm him and fill him with a new life he hadn't had since it was just him and his mom, playing pool every Friday even if he hadn't been quite as tall as the table.
In his reverie, Sebastian had lost some of the caution he had practiced the first few levels of the mines. He had cut through slimes and avoided any bug he came across but now he was tripping over a larger than average rock and that rock was beginning to crawl at him.
"Shit!" Sebastian muttered, scrambling back on his hands with his eyes locked onto what he knew now to be a rock crab. They were quicker than he thought and it got it's pincer around his calf before he could mutter another curse. He jerked away from it in panic but all that accomplished was the rock crab strengthening it's grip. The hard edges pulled at his skin and he winced before grabbing the damn thing and ripping it away from his calf.
His heart pounded forcefully in his chest and his head swam momentarily before the rushing in his ears calmed down. The terrible rip of his skin had filled him with adrenaline and he used it to pat his pockets and reassure himself your topaz was tucked safely away before bolting to the ladder and then to the elevator. Sebastian had gotten what he had come for and maybe a little more than he had bargained for.
_
Once Sebastian was safely out of the mines he sat heavily down onto the snow just outside the entrance. With heaving lungs, he let the chill of the snow seep into his scraped hands and dampen the legs of his pants. The cold was grounding, calming. His calf gave a painful twinge and he snuck a glance at the offending wound. Blood dyed the snow beneath him scarlet but the flow was not fast nor terribly bothersome. There was an ache that wouldn't go away and he knew he should get it tended to but Harvey was long asleep and he wasn't about to face his mother's wrath or invasive questions.
Robin's anger wouldn't be half as frightful if he told the truth but then she'd look at him with searching eyes and say, "The farmer, huh?, like it wasn't obvious that he had fallen for her this last flower dance when she had danced with Alex of all the people in town. She had danced with the man who shared the least in common with him. Did that mean something?
His heart gave a sharp tug almost as painful as the rock crab wound. Sebastian knew damn well Alex had invited you to dance just to catch Haley's eye, but you had said yes. You were more than arm candy and he had spent the next week in the worst mood wondering why. It wasn't until he saw you again that that feeling had eased and then he'd been faced with the knowledge of having fallen in love.
You had just shrugged when he'd asked how the dance had been with Alex. A sly smile played at your lips when you'd then asked, "How was dancing with Abigail?", like you knew something he didn't. Like you knew Abby was a childhood friend he tried to put distance from as often as possible and had since become a placeholder for inconveniences such as the annual dance. Like you knew he was wishing for her to be you.
Shuffling around on the snow when his hands began to sting with the cold, he realized that he needed to get up and care for his wound. He could walk on it well enough so he hobbled even more cautiously this time over the wooden bridge and back into his garage. Eyes peeled and flashlight at the ready he searched for where his mom kept her first aid kit for when she worked. Spotting it on Demetrius' workbench, he opened up only to be filled with disappointment. Sebastian's wonderful, loving, intelligent mother had not restocked the first aid kit in Yoba only knows how long.
Where would he even-?
Sebastian's thought was cut off with your name, as much of his thoughts were. You were always around town with bandaged fingers and poultices to offer to Evelyn for sore hips or to Vincent for scraped knees. You would have something to help.
He supposed it was wishful thinking that you would answer the door, and the walk to the farm wouldn't be delightful this time of night let alone with a bum leg but Sebastian pictured your smile once more and that heatless flame you gave off warmed him just enough to spur him to action.
_
Sebastian's head swam uncomfortably as he took the route to your farm but he used what adrenaline he had left in him to carry him all the way to your porch. Thankfully, torches lit the way and he didn't stumble or otherwise agitate his calf. Knocking on the door one, two, three times he let his fist fall before settling into the rocking chair you had set up for when George came to see you.
You had confided in him once that George enjoyed watching you work and was comfortable with letting you help him into the rocking chair. It reminded him of his childhood and Sebastian thought it was so sweet he could fall apart. He chuckled for a moment, even if Alex wasn't interested, he was sure that George hoped you would take a liking to his grandson just so he could claim you as family.
"Y/N!" He called, not too loud but none too gently either. He'd be thrilled to get something to fix the damn ache in his leg and close up the wound but if you were sleeping there was a part of him that wanted you to keep on dreaming. Your welfare mattered greatly to him, nearly over his own. He let his eyes close for a moment. Maybe it'd be alright if he just rested here for a second and then he could be on his way. He'd see Harvey tomorrow.
"Sebastian! What happened?" You gasped, jolting Sebastian back to reality. You held three jars of mayonnaise in your hands and at the sight of him you dropped all of them.
His throat was suddenly dry at the sight of you.
"Y/N, I-"
"Inside, right now," Your scolded but your voice was still so warm and even as your eyebrows knit together in confusion he could see the concern in those gorgeous eyes while they traced down his figure to the tattered jeans and blood on his leg.
Sebastian pushed himself up from the rocker and nearly giggled when your hand pressed firmly against his back. If he thought hard enough he could imagine your hard-earned callouses against his spine and he suppressed a shiver. Maybe he had bled a bit more than he'd thought.
You pulled a chair out from a table, your farmhouse being much larger than when he had last visited. Rather than the single room your first year, you now boasted a kitchen, three upper level rooms, a cellar and basement. You put his mom to good work and good work she had achieved.
And here he was, getting blood on the hardwood.
"Sit and speak," You demanded and Sebastian fixed his eyes onto yours. You were already shuffling around in one of your cabinets, retrieving an armful of supplies. He knew you'd have just what he needed.
"Got bored. Went to the mines and didn't see a rock crab."
Sebastian nearly rolled his eyes. He didn't mean to sound so....apathetic. He had spent so long playing it cool that he didn't know how to take himself out of it even when internally he was aching to shower you with gifts, affirmations, and if he was lucky enough, affection.
The pinched look of your face didn't exactly disappear but it eased some as you knelt before him, eyes wide and perfect as they took him in. He always felt exposed around you and at first it had made him uncomfortable. He had tried pushing you away because of it, but now he relished the feeling of being seen.
"My, my, Seb," You scolded against, this time warmly and without the nervous energy you'd had before when you hadn't known what was wrong with him. His heart leapt jerkily at the words you spoke. Yes, yours, all yours actually just ask me-
"It was dark," He mumbled, cheeks bright pink from the cold and something more.
"Typically in an unlit mine, things are dark," You agreed playfully, hands carefully but steadily rolling up the torn leg of his jeans. He really had liked him but he couldn't find it in him right now to mind the loss with your fingers prodding gently at his skin.
"Oh shut it," Sebastian laughed but the last thing he wanted was for you to stop speaking. Regrettably, you grew silent for a moment but he knew it was in concentration as you took a wet rag and wiped the blood and dirt away from the edges of his wound. So careful not to hurt him. Always so careful.
"Does it hurt?" You whispered, tilting your chin up at him. Sebastian drank up your appearance, the light from the fireplace casting gentle shadows against the side of your face. You were kneeling before him, hands carefully prodding at his leg and lips stuck out in a pout. He wanted run his fingers through your hair and pull you to him.
"Nothing hurts right now," He said a bit too honestly, not having time to question the words before they were out. You looked alarmed for a second, hand coming to press against his forehead.
"Don't joke so much, you sound like you're dying and meeting Yoba,"
"Oh yeah, because a scrape from a rock crab would-"
"Stop being sassy Seb, let me clean you up."
Sebastian couldn't help the dumbfounded grin that surfaced. There was something about the way you commanded the room, commanded him, that left him weak in the knees with no defenses.
You hummed softly, even when you applied alcohol to sanitize the wound and he hissed, jerking roughly away from you. You had gripped his thigh to keep him from moving too much and he stilled the second you squeezed. He stopped moving, let alone breathing, after that. Soon you were securing his calf with a bandage and looking at him with a satisfied but curious smile.
"You know, you're lucky I forgot to get the mayo from the coop earlier or I would've been in bed and you would've bled out on my porch,"
"I thought you might be awake," Sebastian answered honestly.
"Your mom could've helped,"
"Her first aid kit was empty,"
"Harvey-"
"Sleeping, and I wanted to give you something anyways,"
That look like you knew something he didn't played at your features again and his stomach did a somersault. To get away from the dizzy feeling you were giving him, he stood up and walked almost normally to his bag that had been left by the door.
"You didn't have to get me anything,"
You said it airily, with no real conviction. He knew you liked presents just like everyone else in town except you didn't receive them nearly half as often as you gave them out. For god's sake Pierre gave you seven potato seeds at the feast of the winter star last year. Sebastian was praying Lewis would let him be your secret gifter this year.
He pulled out the Topaz and extended it, eyes darting to the ceiling but then dropping back down to you. No matter how vulnerable he felt right now, in your home in the middle of the night, he wanted to see you light up at the sight of your present.
It was only when you held the topaz in your hands and looked at it oddly he thought you must have gathered plenty for yourself and he felt momentary regret. What could he give you that you didn't already have?
Taking two steps closer, you raised your chin and he noticed with shock that your eyes had grown glossy with tears.
"How did you know I love topaz?"
Sebastian couldn't help but let out an abrupt chuckle. "I honestly didn't, but it reminded me of your glow ring when you leave the mines and we talk and so I couldn't help but-"
You had put an end to his rambling by throwing your arms around his waist, topaz still held protectively in one of your hands as you tightened your arms around him and snuggled your head against his chest.
The air had definitely left him, never to return, and he was in fact going to die on your floor.
"Y/N..." Sebastian had nothing to say but he felt compelled to speak your name. The way it sounded off of his lips felt like finding a missing puzzle piece.
"Sebastian," You whispered in response, not releasing him from the hug.
"Y/N," Sebastian teasing said back. You huffed in amusement and began to pull away, thinking the moment was over but Sebastian kept you in his arms and you stopped trying to move away when he didn't let go. You stilled even further when he brushed a barely-there kiss to the crown of your head as if possessed by the need to feel your hair against his lips.
"Thank you for helping me, I'm sorry it's late,"
"Thank you for giving me a gift, I'm sorry it's late,"
He rolled his eyes at your parroted words but held you closer. He couldn't feel the cool wetness from his snowy pants or the ache in his calf nor the sting in his palms anymore. His heatless flame with her healing touch had removed all of his ailments.
Sometime later, after you had got him a towel and a warm cup of coffee to sip at while you talked on the couch, you let your head fall onto his shoulder and rest there. Even longer after that, the sun had come up and you had begun your work for the day with the promise to take a nap, Sebastian was on his way home with a skip in his step and warmth in his chest (and two new jars of mayonnaise in his pack).
Maybe you did know something he didn't know but maybe he was starting to see that his feelings for you weren't so different from how you felt about him.

Actually, no. I'm not going to defend Demetrius and the tomato scene or the bedpost scene.
The bachelors and bachelorettes are implied to all be old enough to drink. That's 21 years old (since CA is from the US).
This means Maru is at least 21 years old minimal.
Meaning that Demetrius and Robin have been married to each other for at LEAST 21 years.
Demetrius has had 21 years to learn what Robin meant by "pick up some fruit" and to know the artistic merits of some of her works. Neurodivergent or not, he should know by now what she means and why she chose to make things a certain way with her carpentry.
And this point, he's just being an asshole.

I literally can't understand why everyone has at least one character who they hate. I'm on my first playthrough and it's kinda half-blind because I am an impatient adhd kid and have already looked through most of the characters' storylines. They're all cool!
My most negative feelings when this playthrough was completely blind (spring/summer 1) was being wary of Shane and being sad about Haley not liking any of my gifts. Now I love both!
I like how Lewis and Marnie hide their relationship. I like how Harvey still charges you for medical help when you marry him. I like how Sam is somewhat irresponsible child of a man. I like how Robin and Demetrius' family has their unique dynamic. I like Sebastian's daddy issues. I like Elliott's overtly romantic style. I like Shane's whole storyline. I like Abigail's parents being overprotective. I love everyone who I haven't mentioned.
Games can't have perfect characters only. That would be uncanny valley, not stardew.

I've been playing a bunch of Stardew Valley recently (finally!) and learning that a lot of people think Robin and Demetrius have an unhappy marriage kind of...boggles my mind? Because they seem to me to be a happy couple with a normal amount of long-term couple friction. Yes, several of their events show them arguing, but that's not the entirety of their relationship. I guess I can see how people would think there's more negative than positive if you ONLY take into account the stuff that's spelled out for you, but if you look at what Robin and Demetrius do, it paints a very different picture.
Because they do EVERYTHING together.
They dance together. They go to the bar together. They spend festivals together. If you pass by their house after Robin closes up shop but before the sun sets, you'll often find them standing at the southern border of the zone a little ways off from their house, looking out over the town. They are watching the sunset together. And they do this often enough that I noticed it just in passing on the days I walked past their house at just the right time!
Robin and Demetrius don't just love each other, they like each other. And they put in the work to maintain the relationship every day. I think their marriage is rather sweet, to be honest--they're clearly both very happy with the arrangement.

Hi everyone!
So now that Stardew Valley is on mobile, I can finally play! The Mobile version makes it easier to take around.
I was wondering about the green rain event. It looks…like there’s something wrong. The TV won’t work. Everyone is meeting in Gus’s pub, Demetrius is in a hazmat suit taking samples.
I was thinking it could be radioactive. Since you can find radioactive ore, it would make sense that the rain could be green. Maybe from a nuclear reactor? I was thinking about a new area to explore. Maybe the reactor itself?
Imagine it having negative effects on our character like being debuffed (poison, feeling sick, moving at a slower pace, ect.)
It would add so much to the story and the town too! Maybe some dialogue similar to Demetrius telling you he’s taking samples.
What do you all think?
#stardew valley#theories#this would be fascinating!#a new area to explore would be cool#what do you think?#feel free to share/reblog

So something that I find interesting about Chapter 99
and do pardon me if I'm not being very eloquent in my thoughts I woke up out of a dead sleep to say this.

Donavan here is in middle school and he doesn't have the imperial scholar cape yet. Even though Demetrius has one at around the same age.
Now while that might mean that Donavan may get one eventually (and Demetrius is basically a prodigy) I'd like to propose another theory:
Donavan was never an imperial scholar.
Quick edit: I completely missed it, but Donovan was an imperial scholar. Thank you to @peanutjinan for pointing that out
But clearly he wasn't a super genius like Demetrius is. Just your average student with a pessimistic world view (that is admittedly very understandable considering the times he's growing up in, it just goes to show the negative impact of war on children and how it perpetuates a cycle of violence)
End of edit.
It brings to mind a concern I have regarding Demetrius. You know how parents do that thing where they pressure their kids to take up acting or sports because its what the parents wished they could do and they are living vicariously through that child. I think Demetrius is going through that right now.
I think Demetrius genuinely has no thoughts in his head outside of studying and grades (the only thing he can think to bring up to his little brother is a discussion about his grades not... you know, the bus hijacking!!) and that's a little sad to me. We haven't had much but from what we can see, he has no friends, he has no hobbies, he has no meaningful relationship with his family (Yo Endo what does his mom think of him!?)
I just hope it changes for him.

Another attempt at another fic. Demetrius is fun to mess with, this time I tried something longer. 1771 words for this one! And this will be a part 1! When I get to part 2 I'll start a series for the masterpost. I'm having fun doing the writing. Although if theres any errors please tell me!
Demetrius had always been a figure of strength and authority. His presence alone was enough to command respect for most, and he rarely found himself flustered or shaken. A pillar of strength for the Velen, and to a lot of people who relied on him. He was the type of man to hate exposing a vulnerability, like an exposed nerve. And, unfortunately for him, In the Velen Empire spring has arrived and the air became thick with the golden haze of pollen, Demetrius found himself facing an unrelenting battle: allergies.
The people around him were bustling with activity, the floral trees that surrounded as they nestled their camp within a clearing in the Kingswood forest were in full bloom, their pollen swirling in the warm breeze. As Demetrius strode through the narrow paths between tents, his long strides powerful and purposeful, his mind was hardly focused on work. Instead, his thoughts were fixated on:
Don't sneeze. Not here. Not in front of anyone.
He was trying to make his way through the busy crowds to get out of the populated area and find somewhere secluded to deal with this growing ache.
The itch in his nose had started subtly enough this morning—a gentle tickle that was easy to ignore at first. But the more he breathed in the pollen-laden air, the more the tickle grew. His massive nostrils flared slightly, and his brow furrowed in frustration it almost made him pause in his walk. Each step seemed to stir more into the air from the dry grass and humid air around him, making his nose twitch involuntarily. Unlike the noses of mere mortals, the olfactory organs of a storm giant were hyper-sensitive, a unique trait that rendered him particularly vulnerable to the onslaught of allergens swirling in the air.
The gentle breeze carried the sweet, fragrant scent of wildflowers, which should have been soothing but only exacerbated his torment. His nostrils flared wide, making him panic and quickly snap his hand up to crush at them, under his fingers they were fluttering and flickering as if fighting profusely to break free, but every breath igniting a fresh wave of irritation deep within. The droning sensation danced along the delicate membranes of his sinuses as if bouncing around inside the cavernous muscles. The pressure was building like tiny lightning bolts were striking within.
Ahead of him stood Erlo, his commander and a high-ranking general in the Velen Empire’s army who was a centaur, gilded in the ceremonial armor once would expect from a person of such high status, and very intricately made to suit that of the build of a centaur too. Erlo was a stern man, sharp-eyed and direct, his presence a constant reminder of the discipline required in their ranks but he had an annoying habit of negging those who don't do as he says. Demetrius barely could say he respected him he was usually dismissive, and sarcastic in his presence, Erlo feared him, he smelled it often, but today, he was struggling to focus on anything Erlo said at all.
“Demetrius,” Erlo’s voice cut through the air, clear and commanding. “We need your strength for the next operation. The rest of the generals are expecting a report from you tomorrow morning, and—are you even listening?”
Demetrius blinked, trying to force his attention back to the conversation. He could feel the prickling in his nose growing more insistent, teasing at the edges of his control. Don't sneeze. His thoughts were consumed with that single focus, making it almost impossible to process anything Erlo was saying.
“Er…Hh!…” A soft, reflexive hitch escaped him, and he quickly raised a hand to cover his mouth and infuriating nose, hoping to quell it before it escalated. His chest tightened, the throbbing spreading through his nasal passages, it was sharper and more insistent than before almost enough to make his eyes water. Perhaps attempting to talk just triggered the muscles to contract. But the last thing he needed was to unleash one of his thunderous sneezes in the middle of the courtyard, with dozens of soldiers and officials around.
“Demetrius?” Erlo repeated, his eyes narrowing slightly as he noticed something was a little off. “Are you alright?”
“F…Fine,” He spat quickly, a bit desperate not to induce anything else from his quickly inflaming nose but relented and spoke, just to shut him up.
"I'm fidne…" Demetrius rumbled, his deep voice thick with congestion, despite his attempts to keep it steady. He let his hand drop. His eyes were squinted from the burning behind them, and his nose twitched again, the reaction was not giving him a moments peace.
He could feel the sneeze brewing, clawing at him, but he held it back with every ounce of strength he had. Erlo, unaware of the suffering raging inside Demetrius, continued speaking, his words blending into the background as Demetrius’s mind became singularly focused on preventing what felt inevitable. The pollen seemed to cling to the interiors of his flesh, swirling into his wide, dilating and glistening wet nares, making it nearly impossible to focus on anything but the unbearable itching.
Don't sneeze. Don't sneeze.
His nostrils flared again, flickered, wide, strained, shivering with anticipation then eased. He could feel the sneeze hovering right at the edge, waiting to explode, but he clenched his jaw, willing it down. His muscles tensed under his skin.
Erlo raised an eyebrow, stopping a moment in his explanations of unwanted zombies showing up west near Lowestoft, clearly noticing Demetrius’s increasing discomfort.
“Demetrius?” he asked, his tone less commanding and more curious now.
Demetrius nodded quickly, not trusting his voice. His massive chest shuddered as he gulped, throat dry, trying to hold back the sneeze that threatened to erupt at any moment. But Erlo wasn't finished…
“… Right. As I was saying—” Erlo continued, though now his words were little more than a distant hum in Demetrius's ears. Wait, he wasn't done?? Demetrius could almost roll his eyes in exasperation.
Don't sneeze. Don't sneeze.
The words echoed in Demetrius's mind, his entire focus consumed by the effort to suppress. Yet he could feel the pollen tickling every part of him, now buzzing through the uniquely large organ, each short breath drawing in more despite his attempts not to.
His world was getting blurry, but he tried not to dip out of the focus he was forcing. The giant clenched his fists, gritting his teeth so tightly his jaw ached. Each time his chest alarmed him by a sudden jolt and expanded he tried to swallow it down, and for a moment, he thought he might lose the battle. But somehow, he managed to hold it in. He had to cover his face once more during all this as his nose was twitching so violently beneath a hand he thought he looked ridiculous and he refused to put down. His nostrils flared, his muscles tensed and then it passed, the sneeze didn’t come and this scourge cycled.
When Erlo finally finished speaking, Demetrius could only manage a curt nod, praying the conversation wouldn’t continue.
He knew he hadn’t heard a single word his commander had said.
He moved on quickly soon as Erlo uttered "I will see you later" not even bothering saying goodbye to him or courtesy's and perhaps missing that detail... -----------------------------------------------
Demetrius had moved his way out of the camp and stood at the edge of the forest, away from the bustle of soldiers and strategists, desperate for a moment of solitude. The sun filtered through the trees, casting dappled shadows on the ground, but the beauty of the forest did little to distract him from the relentless irritation in his nose. His large nasal passages swelled angrily beneath his skin, a painful protest against the pollen that filled the air, leaving him in a constant state of discomfort.
He couldn't hold out, he just wanted to get out one, one and then done, just for some relief. The persistent titillation of the one thing that was a giant's most delicate feature was like a prickling fire that danced along the flesh inside like it was teasing him.
He sat, closing his eyes and taking a deep breath in an effort to induce the relief he so desperately craved. He needed to let it out. It wasn't long after that his massive nostrils flared tremendously, as if yearning for mercy and craving stimulation, fluttering agape in response to the overwhelming urge that ripped through him.
“Hheh… hheh—!” His broad, large nose crumbled at the bridge, excited for the expulsion of the damn irritations.
But just before he could give in to the sensation, he heard the hurried footsteps of a soldier approaching from the camp. Demetrius’s frustration grew as he turned slightly, trying to mask his struggle and choked it down, coughing and gagging a moment before snarling. The last thing he wanted was to be seen in such a vulnerable state.
“Sir!” the soldier called, urgency lacing his voice. “They need you in the war tent! Commander Erlo is waiting for your presence!”
The intrusion shattered his concentration, the tickling spiraling out of his control, ebbing and pulsing like a rubber band snapping. Demetrius could feel his annoyance boiling beneath the surface.
“I’ll be there in a moment,” he said dryly, trying to sound authoritative even as his voice came out thick with congestion.
The soldier hesitated for a moment, clearly unsure of how to proceed.
“But they really need you—”
“I said, I’ll be there!” Demetrius snapped, trying to keep his voice steady and a growl escaping him, shaking the trees and the air itself. The soldier fled, frightened by the loud venom laced spit from the giant and stumbled clumsily back to the camp.
He turned away, hoping to gather himself enough to endure this.
“Hh… Hehd!…”
It's as if his face was melting, he tried to hold it back, to regain some semblance of command over it, but the more he fought against it, the stronger the muscles tightened and argued. His face contorted with the effort and his nose wriggled profusely as if complaining it couldn't get its release. He pinched his nostrils shut, in an attempt to quell this chaos, but all that did was send shockwaves coursing through him. He shuddered, static buzzing around him making his hair float upward.
There was a brief and pregnant pause, but it held long enough for Demetrius to let go of the held breath, exhaling slowly through his mouth. He could feel the pulsing, demanding attention and fruition, but he couldn’t afford to linger.
With a heavy sigh, Demetrius straightened up, knowing he had to return. He couldn’t afford to appear weak or distracted, even if the pollen continued to mock him from every corner of the camp. He took a second, steeling himself, and set off toward the war tent.
