Destin Mattias and Change

Lieutenant Destin Mattias was the newest introduction to the Frozen family and fits right in alongside Queen Anna (and future King Kristoff, don't @ me) in Arendelle as her General.

In my Honeymaren analysis, I mentioned how she acted as a mentor character to Elsa, and guided to towards her true destiny. Destin has this same role, except for Anna instead - even more interesting, however, Anna actually acts as his mentor in return. He and Anna actually mirror each other and follow a very similar development through Frozen 2, revealing to us that Destin is actually a very deep character, even with his short time in the sequel.

Fun fact - Destin means 'destiny' in French, which falls in line with the overall themes in Frozen 2 and his role in the film.

Destin and Anna share a lot of similarities - their unwavering loyalty to those they care about, their love for Arendelle, and their sheer determination to do the right thing, even if it means sacrificing their own well-being.

However, the similarities do not stop there.

When we first meet Destin, he is wary of the Northuldra and the spirits due to what he had witnessed before being locked away in the woods. He was under the impression that the Northuldra attacked them, and somehow caused the death of the King he was loyal to.

Anna starts Frozen 2 with a similar mindset. She witnessed the spirits destroy Arendelle, and Elsa act secretive about the voice. Anna wasn't ready to trust the spirits, and she also wasn't readily willing to put the lives of the people she cared about, and the life she clinged onto, on the line. When Elsa proclaims she will help everyone in the woods, Anna is concerned "That's a pretty big promise, Elsa." then Anna remarks to Honeymaren with a more realistic promise "We'll do all we can."

Later on, Anna and Destin spend a moment together during the camp scene. They talk about a couple things, first about Hamila.

Anna remarks that Halima is still single, but Destin is conflicted about this. This is an interesting scene because it actually showcases something that Anna is trying to avoid. Change. Destin is saddened by the fact that someone he cares about is single, even though it benefits him because if he gets out of the woods, he can try to be with her. He cares more about Halima's happiness than if she is available to him, even though that would mean that something in his life was changed and he can't do anything about it.

Anna has to also face a similar issue. Anna doesn't want her life to change. She wants it to remain the same because she doesn't want to lose her happiness again. However, this comes into conflict when Elsa has a calling that could change the fabric of Anna's world - whether through Elsa leaving her behind or Elsa getting hurt. Thus, Anna is faced with this issue where she wants Elsa to be true to herself and be happy but is also struggling with the idea of Elsa's calling leading her away from Anna - either by choice or by death.

Thus, both Destin and Anna are faced with a similar issue - should they be happy that the person they care about is finding a life outside of them, or should they dread it? The good thing is that Destin gets to have his second chance with Hamila, and Anna can have Elsa in her life even while Elsa chases her calling.

The second thing they talk about is a prelude to The Next Right Thing.

Anna: What else do you miss? Lt. Mattias: My father. He passed long before all this. He was a great man, Built us a good life in Arendelle, But taught me to never take the good for granted. He'd say, "Be prepared! Just when you think you found your way, life will throw you on a new path". Anna: What do you do when it does? Lt. Mattias: Don't give up. Take it one step at a time and... Anna: Just do the next right thing. Lt. Mattias: Yeah, you got it.

Here, we see Destin unknowingly give Anna the best advice that she needs. Anna, as said, is struggling with change. Destin tells her how being prepared for change is important because life will always throw you something unexpected. The voice suddenly calling Elsa created a shift in Anna's life that she was not prepared for, or even wanted to acknowledge.

However, Anna has an inkling that things will change, no matter what she does, and she asks Destin how to deal with it. How does she deal with her life being different without her consent? And thus, he replies to her that she just needs to take everything one step at a time and do the next right thing. And when Anna is faced with the hardest moment of her life, she does just that and more.

We circle straight back to this during the Dam scene. Anna tries to convince Destin to let her destroy the dam. She tells him things that would ultimately change his perception and his very purpose. Destin swore to protect Arendelle and was loyal to his King, only for Anna to shatter the reality that he was living with for 34 years. Was he going to accept it and do the next right thing, or fight it for his own comfort?

Destin chooses to follow his father's advice and do the next right thing, even if it meant going against everything he stood for. Just as he helped Anna emotionally prepare for change, Anna helped him do the same. Thus, toward the end of the film, both Anna and Destin learn to trust the spirits and fight against injustice, even if it meant turning their backs on everything they knew.

Destin Mattias is an interesting and deep character that fully envelopes the themes and messages of Frozen 2, while also helping Anna and mirroring her own development. I hope he continues to play a significant role in the future of the franchise, and hopefully, he'll finally get to sing.

PART 4 THE RIPPED PHOTO

All the campers marched like soldiers along the long forest path. Matheo and Mattia, the two boys facing “punishment,” trudged behind, clearly over it. At least the sun wasn��t blazing through the pine trees.

“Alright, everyone else can get back to your activities!” Mr. Hamilton yelled into his megaphone.

The campers cheered and bolted down the road. Mattia and Matheo stayed behind, exchanging annoyed looks as Mr. Hamilton pointed to their destination: a creaky old cabin that looked one strong wind away from collapse.

“Isolation cabin,” Mr. Hamilton declared.

“This place better not have ghosts,” Mattia muttered, adjusting his sunglasses.

Matheo rolled his eyes. “If there are ghosts, they’ll probably be more fun than you.”

The cabin creaked ominously as the boys settled in. Matheo unpacked with exaggerated flair, sticking Real Madrid posters on the walls. Mattia ignored him, focused on his card game.

“What are you even playing?” Matheo asked, squinting at the cards.

“Uno. Against myself. I’m winning,” Mattia replied without looking up.

Matheo rolled his eyes, then moved to open the window. A strong wind blew in, scattering his posters everywhere.

“Ugh, help me close this!” Matheo groaned.

Mattia stood, reluctantly helping. Together, they managed to shut the window.

“Thanks,” Matheo mumbled.

“No problem,” Mattia replied, sitting back down.

As they gathered Matheo’s scattered posters, Mattia raised an eyebrow at a particular one.

“What is that?”

“It’s Real Madrid merch,” Matheo said, clutching the poster protectively. “And this guy is Kylian Mbappe. He is my favorite player. Don’t judge.”

Mattia smirked. “Whatever makes you happy, buddy.”

Later, Matheo rummaged through his bag and pulled out a snack.

“Want some chips?”

Mattia shook his head. “I only eat chips with Nutella. You wouldn’t understand.”

Matheo froze. “Excuse me? I eat everything with Nutella. Even fries.”

“No way,” Mattia said, his jaw dropping.

Matheo grabbed a jar from his drawer triumphantly. “Believe it.”

Mattia stared. “Okay, now I trust you a little more. Just a little.”

The two laughed, dunking chips into Nutella like it was the most normal thing in the world.

"Whats your dad like? I mean, is he the kind of father you can talk to or is he one of those workaholic types, who says I'll talk to you later, honey. But you know never really does. Well i hate that" Matheo asked casually with his expressive face and eating his chip.

Mattia chuckle a bit seeing Matheo face,

"I don't have a father, actually." he said with a bit bitter face.

"I mean, I had one once, I suppose. But my parents divorce since I was baby. My mom never even mentioned it. It's like he evaporated into thin air or something." Mattia said it with his voice getting quieter.

Matheo face shocked, his eyes widen, and his posture straightening, "Scary the way nobody stays together anymore."

"Tell me about it."

"How old are you?" Matheo asked.

“I'll be 10 on December 15th,” Mattia replied. “Why?”

Matheo froze. “That’s my birthday.”

Mattia raised an eyebrow. “Weird.”

The rain finally stopped, leaving behind that fresh, post-storm vibe. Matheo leaned against the cabin door, his hair slightly damp from the drizzle earlier. “Oh, hey, it stopped raining. Want to get a popsicle or something?” he asked casually, glancing at Mattia, who was sitting cross-legged on the floor, lost in thought.

“What’s the matter?” Matheo pressed, noticing the faraway look in Mattia’s eyes.

Mattia sighed, tilting her head back. “What’s your mother like?” he asked suddenly.

Matheo blinked, caught off guard. “I never met her. She and my dad split up when I was a baby. Maybe even before—I’m not sure. He doesn’t like to talk about her.” He paused, fidgeting with his hands. “But I know she was really, really beautiful.”

Mattia squinted at him. “How do you know that?”

“Well,” Matheo said with a sheepish smile, “my dad had old picture of her hidden on his room. I’d always look at it, like, all the time. He finally caught me and just gave it to me.”

"Look, I’m thirsty. Sure you don’t want to hit the mess hall and grab something to drink?”

Mattia frowned, folding his arms. “Will you stop thinking about your stomach at a time like this?”

Matheo scoffed, hands on his hips. “A time like what?”

Matheo’s eyes widened. “Don’t you realize what’s happening?”

Matheo rolled his eyes dramatically. “No, Mattia, please tell me.”

Matheo hesitated, then shook his head, changing the subject. "Listen, I only have a mother, and you only have a father. You've never seen your mom, and I've never seen my dad. You have one old picture of your mom, and I have one old picture of my dad. But at least yours is probably a whole picture. Mine's a pathetic little thing, all crinkled and ripped right down the middle, and...

Matheo stood in stunned silence, the coincidence weighing heavily in the air.

“What are you doing in your trunk for?” Mattia asked, voice curious but edged with disbelief.

Wordlessly, the other pulled out a crinkled photograph, holding it up with trembling hands. “This... it’s a picture of my mum. And it’s ripped, too. Right down the middle.”

The first stared at the photo, their breath catching in their throat. Their voice was a whisper now. “Right down the middle.”

“Okay, this is freaky,” they said, their tone shaky. “On the count of three, we’ll hold them together. Deal?”

The other nodded, their hands still trembling. “Deal.”

“One... two... three.”

As the halves of the photos came together, the ripped edges fit perfectly. The faded image revealed a couple smiling brightly—Matheo’s father and Mattia’s mother. The realization hit them like a thunderbolt.

“That’s... my mom,” Mattia said, his voice barely audible.

“And thats my old man,” Mattia replied, unable to look away.

Their eyes locked, the truth settling in like a jigsaw finally completed.

But his eyes aren’t on Jordan. Or the game of bocce.

They’re on you. 

But he looks away the very second your eyes meet. Like he wasn’t staring. Like he wasn’t very pointedly watching Mattia refill your drink.

Emily sips her fresh drink, “Subtle.”

You roll your eyes and turn back to the girls. “We’re being civil.”

Frozen 2 medley — VoicePlay music video

The Frozen phenomenon was pretty inescapable for several years, and these lifelong Disney kids were not immune to the hype. So when they were considering how best to feature their newest (and youngest) collaborator, the sequel film's soundtrack quickly became an obvious choice. Its combination of whimsy, musicality, and earnest coming-of-age stories was a perfect fit for these performers.

○ Adriana was just 15 years old when they recorded this. VoicePlay included their invitation for her to collaborate with them in a birthday message delivered via her mother, Michelle, who the guys knew from the theme park performance community.

○ The haunting North Wind vocals were provided by Elizabeth Garozzo, another theme park buddy, who later appeared on screen in their videos for "Just Sing" and "In the Hall of the Mountain King".

○ Everyone's outfits are reflective of characters in the film, though they don't strictly adhere to the same vocal parts. Eli is Olaf the snowman, Earl is Princess Anna, J.None is Destin Mattias, Layne is Sven the reindeer, Adriana is Queen Elsa, and Geoff is Kristoff Bjorgman.

○ Adriana and Michelle created a behind the scenes video of the filming day that includes footage of some perilous carrot chopping percussion, an impromptu bit of their Moana medley, and the intentionally bad singthrough.

○ The Facebook upload of this video racked up 2 million views in less than a week. Never underestimate the combined power of Disney fans, children's desire for repetition, and the extra leisure time that comes with the December holidays.

○ The arrangement and video got the seal of approval from the original songwriters on Twitter.

○ That interaction led to a mention on Broadway World.

○ The audio version was uploaded to streaming sites as individual tracks in an album entitled "Slushy", and includes a bonus remix of "Lost in the Woods".

○ Their artist friend Leon King was inspired to draw a joyful little Laynedeer.

○ The guys had previously performed and recorded some songs from the first movie, as well.

"Let It Go" was the finale of their "Wow! Hits" medley on the 2015 Sing-Off tour. It was also one of the alternate interruptions Layne occasionally used in their "Road Trip" skit.

"In Summer" was included in their "Aca Top 10 – Disney Sidekicks" countdown the year before.

J.None was part of the ensemble for the album version of DCappella's "Let It Go / Do You Want to Build a Snowman?" mashup a few months after that.

○ Although this was their first recorded collaboration, it wasn't actually the first time VoicePlay and Adriana had performed together. They had been part of the entertainment at an event in early June 2018, along with Paradigm Party Band, J's nephew, and Layne's nieces.

Frozen Canon Talk Fifth Edition

Next, as you can imagine, my infamous, Arendelle Archives-approved creation, Frozen Canon Talk, will be getting its Fifth Edition. However, I am simply waiting for the releases of these next two books (listed below) so that I can have all of 2023 covered. I believe (if Forces of Nature's advertising is anything to go by) that this year should be the last year of major side-story releases before F3 (or any shorts they could throw at us at some point), so it's a good time to freshen up the post for its fifth edition.

The post will now include the newest editions in the Frozen Franchise, as well as a new section called "The Novel Extended Universe" that includes all novels/comics/podcasts that reference one another and try to build coherent lore between them. This phenomenon started happening during the F2 Era of books, and typically have the same authors penning the projects.

Thus, again, I'm waiting for the release of these novels before I get started.

For the WIP ask game: And If I Changed my Mind

I'm so glad you asked about that one! It's probably what I'm most excited to work on.

Fandom: Frozen, BATB Ships: Kristanna, Ryder/Belle, Anna/Mattias, background Elsamaren, Adam/Gaston, maybe some others Rating: M/E (this snippet is rated T)

It's a long fic (maybe 15-20 chapters or so, at least for now). And it's set in my Bandana AU (Future's So Bright, Rain Check, Here Comes the Sun). Basically, Anna has just divorced Hans and is starting over, living with her sister Elsa, her wife Mare, and their (mostly grown) kids Ryder and Olaf, and also grieving for her daughter Samantha, who passed away as a baby. KB and Anna previously hooked up right after the divorce without really knowing each other, but Anna decides she needs to be on her own for a while before she jumps into any kind of relationship. So this is the story that picks up after their hook-ups until they finally get together. Oh, also, KB hires Anna to be his office manager. It's a slow-burn friends-to-lovers fic.

Along the way, Anna will date Destin Mattias. And there's a side plot where Ryder has a huge crush (does Ryder have any other kind????) on fellow mechanic/Anna's best friend Belle. So it's a bit of a BATB crossover, too. And yes, I'm finally writing Rydelle! You might be skeptical now, but if you read my fic you will walk away a Rydelle believer.

Here's a little snippet (a little more than a snippet) if you want a taste:

Anna would have changed out of her hot pink dress before going in to work, but she got lost on her way from the graveyard, as she always did. She thought about calling KB to ask for directions, but she knew she could figure it out on her own. But once she meandered her way onto the highway - after about an hour of trying to figure out where her GPS was taking her - she spent the rest of the drive wondering why she didn’t even think of calling anyone else.

By the time she got back into town she was already an hour late for work, which meant she was going to have to call KB anyway.

She always thought he was going to be upset with her whenever she was late, but he never was. Not once. He wasn’t ever anything but nice to her.

Once she got to KB’s Auto Shop, she flipped down her visor to make sure she looked decent. It was sprinkling earlier, and she was sure her hair, which Elsa had tediously styled that morning, was nothing less than a frightful mess. And then some, she realized.

Then she saw wearing KB’s bandana tied around her wrist. She would have been mortified if he found out she used it as a security blanket. So she stuffed it into her purse, reapplied her lipstick - the tube was hot pink to match her dress, but the color was a lot less subtle - and headed into work.

Her dress kept riding up, so she pulled at the hem of the A-line skater skirt that hit mid-thigh when she got to the door, then picked at the form-fitting lycra waist, though neither helped. She meant to buy a new one for the occasion, but she was still trying to build up her savings and couldn’t justify spending the money. She didn’t think Samantha would mind that it was a little tighter now, but her dress was a little less forgiving. She didn’t expect to be wearing it to work, though.

KB was talking to a customer when she walked it, and didn’t even seem to notice her slip in, which is what she was hoping for, but then he looked up from the clipboard he was tapping his pen against and stopped talking.

The customer looked behind them, but Anna looked away and pretended not to notice.

But she pulled down her skirt again, then she smoothed her hair back even though she knew it wouldn’t help.

“Hey,” KB said, completely ignoring his customer. “How did it go?”

“It was nice,” she said with a smile she couldn’t help. “The butterflies were out.”

He smiled at her again, and she got the feeling he was trying not to look below her neck. “That’s nice. I’m glad it went well. But I’m also glad you’re back.”

She tucked her hair behind her ear again, though it didn’t stay. Then she scooted past him, and he had to back away to give her enough room to pass.

She felt his eyes follow her as she rounded the counter, and she didn’t look up until she flipped her hair from underneath the sweater that was fortunately draped around the back of her chair, and the thought KB’s head turned away.

“I’m sorry. What was I saying?” he asked the customer.

Anna looked in his direction again as she piled her hair into a bun at the top of her head, and KB looked away again.

The customer laughed and said, “Thanks, Kris. ‘Preciate you.”

KB walked back to the register, still smiling, to show Anna the new inventory he needed her to catalogue when she blurted it out, “I didn’t have time to change.”

“Wait, what?”

“I know this dress isn’t exactly appropriate for work, and it’s too tight, but I got lost and I was already late and I would have been at least another 30 minutes late if I went home to change.”

KB shrugged, “I already told you it’s not a big deal. But maybe a phone call with a heads up next time?”

Anna’s shoulders shrank and she said, “I’m sorry.”

He put his hands on his hips and squinted at her like he does when he’s stumped with a car problem, and she was sure he was wondering the same thing she was: why she couldn’t just call him?

“It’s fine, Anna. Really. No harm done.”

She didn't have an answer for him, though. “I guess it's just one of those days.”

His smile was sweet, but he was silent.

“And my hair is… Elsa actually styled it this morning and it looked so nice!”

KB’s smile widened, and his eyes crinkled. 

“She’s going to be so disappointed.”

“Probably,” KB said with a slight smile.

Anna snorted and KB laughed with her.

“If it helps, I kind of like it.” He moved some some stray hairs out of her face and tried to push it back but it fell forward again.

She piled it onto the top of her head in a messy bun and batted her eyelids in an obviously playful way. “There!”

“Looks great!” he teased and she swatted at his shoulder.

He caught her hand and held it while they stared at each other for a long moment. She knew he was feeling her ring finger to see how much the skin had flattened there. It had been several months since he’d last checked, but the evidence she’d been married before still hadn’t disappeared. And no matter how much she wanted him, she still wasn’t ready.

“Sorry, I should-”

He snapped his hand away and rubbed the back of his neck. “Right, um, no, sorry, I-”

His hands weren’t nearly as greasy as they would be by the end of the day, but Anna always had tissues nearby in case she needed them. She didn’t want to give him any false hope, but she also didn’t want him to feel awkward. He had become one of her closest friends and a knot tightened in her stomach at the thought of losing him.

“Are you still coming tonight?”

“Yup!” he said quickly, and Anna thought she detected relief in his exhale. “Come on, I wouldn’t miss your daughter’s birthday dinner. Is there anything I can bring?”

Just your handsome self, she almost said.

 “Maybe you can bring some beer? Elsa and Mare don’t have good taste like us.”

“Done!” he said on his way to check on the outside bays. 

Just because they were friends now, didn’t mean she couldn’t watch his ass walk away. But he turned when he got to the door and Anna pretended she was typing something. 

She took one more glance because she couldn’t get enough of his ass in jeans - she couldn’t get enough of it without jeans, either! He stopped so she looked up and he was smiling.

So much for not leading him on!

The EA FC 25 UEFA Dreamchasers promo is now live in Ultimate Team, with some players receiving three PlayStyle Plus' for the first time since TOTY.

A fantastic FUT Birthday promo that featured FUT Birthday Team 1 and FUT Birthday Team 2 squads has come to an end in EA FC 25, with a new promo, UEFA Dreamchasers, now available in-game. We already knew about the EA FC 25 UEFA Dreamchasers promo with EA Sports confirming the promo in Title Update 10: Legends Return, but now it's here, it looks set to be one of the best promos released by EA so far.

Similar to the RTTK and RTTF promos, the EA FC 25 UEFA Dreamchasers squad features themed Champions League, Women's Champions League, Europa League and Conference League player items, but EA has also included Icons and Heroes in the promo, with some of these items possessing three PlayStyle Plus'.

Elsewhere, players from Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Arsenal, Tottenham and more are also included in the EA FC 25 UEFA Dreamchasers squad, with the promo now available in Ultimate Team packs until Friday, March 28 at 6 pm GMT / 2 pm EDT / 11am PDT, when a new promo will take its place.
