Shortly before Yvette Solal was born, the Crémieux Decree granted French citizenship to Jews in French Algeria, including Yvette's family. As an effort at assimilation, it was a massive success. Within a generation, most Algerian Jews spoke French over Judeo-Arabic and Judeo-Spanish. Of course, antisemitism was still rampant. French colonists were not so eager to accept Algerian Jews as fellow citizens. But Yvette's family still believed that becoming French was the key to their future, and so that was the way they were raised.
Growing up, Yvette didn't speak French. They didn't speak any language. But they came to understand it, slowly, and found other ways to communicate - gestures, pictures, and eventually writing. For all their struggle with words, they were good with numbers and patterns. They were quick to point out errors in their family's ledgers, and even quicker to make recommendations for the business. More importantly, they had tremendously good luck. Their market predictions were uncannily accurate. They could always guess if a new customer was a good omen or a bad one. As they got older, their family relied on them more and more to run the business. But they never truly stopped seeing Yvette as a child. She was their baby, their good luck charm, to be protected above all else.
And the time would come for them to be protected. In early 1903, when it seemed like France was on the verge of completing their conquest, the powers suddenly shifted. Revolutions sprung up all over North Africa. Yvette and their family found that many of their Jewish neighbors joined in alongside their Muslim ones. The Solal family did not do so. When France withdrew from Algeria, Yvette's family fled, too. But they did not flee to France.
Fearing that the fighting would follow them to Europe, and following the promise of aid from a certain wealthy Moroccan Jew in London, Yvette's family went down to the Neath, and dragged Yvette down with them.
Yvette had protested. They wrote out their reasoning in hurried script, with their most proper French. They did not want to flee and abandon all they'd worked for. They did not trust the word of this stranger from a world away. Snake eyes. Bad luck. But this time, they were ignored.
And though all the freedoms of Fallen London were a welcome surprise, this was not their choice. Years of built-up resentment spilled over in an instant. They would not be leaving, no. Here, they will come into their power.

Locke and Key-a pair of 'Trapper' Slashers.
Locke was the heavy lifter of the two. From building the elaborate traps and puzzles they'd put people in to kidnapping people and moving their bodies. Locke, though characterized frequently as a giant mute brute, is a rather gentle person. He genuinely believed what Key and he was doing was a good thing. That the people who survived their traps would leave with a new perspective and change their lives. Which was not the case as Key was simply a man who loved control, had an ego and god complex and lorded over Locke with abuse emotional and physical despite the fact Locke was much much stronger.
Eventually, Locke had enough and killed Key publicly and submitted to being arrested. He is ironically a very model prisoner and is often contacted by the FBI to profile other killers. Locke is an alarmingly intelligent man with a strangely deep level of emotional intelligence when it comes to people. The few people who have tried to psychoanalyze Locke believes it's the same level of gaslighting and manipulation found in cults and high control abusive relationships that resulted in his submissive behavior towards Key.
Locke being a calm, pleasant man often puts people at unease because they expect him to be naturally violent. The prison he was sentenced to has become much more peaceful since he is essentially the biggest scariest son of a bitch there and he calls nearly all the shots.

i need to know more about tomo pls i love 'dog with separation anxiety' characters
Ok ok I gotta put this under a cut because hes. rotating inside my head always. Going to put a link to his whole little page i posted bc this gives you Some basic information as to his Vibes.
Tomo is a Corrie medic! He’s got a few different like. personas he puts on depending on context. I talk a lot about his Weird Little Unhingedness persona bc thats when he’s letting is all out without hesitation or shame, which is really fun, but he’s a brother first, then a medic, and then a pathetic little creature.
As a vod and a brother, he is very, very loyal and committed to his siblings. His core guiding motivation is to make things better for them, but because of how he thinks this tends to be an individual focus rather than a group focus; he’ll individually get everyone a blanket before pushing for a new project to get everyone blankets, etc.
When he’s off duty and relaxed, he tends to be a friendly, nice guy. Will bend over backwards to help a vod, even one he doesn’t know, with minimal questions asked. Not a whole lot of respect for rules and authority; if you can’t indicate the practical reasons behind a standard or regulation, he will probably ignore it at his convenience. HOWEVER, he is also Definitely younger sibling coded and can be a bit of a shithead as a treat. Kind of a doormat and seems easy to bully but once he realizes he’s being teased or bullied he’ll go from the NOOOO!!! NOOO!!! younger sibling tears to I’m A Medic And I Can Tolerate And Shut Down So Much Bullshit on a dime. Likes people, likes to be around people in general, will worry and fret and scold if you’re being a bit reckless but also the biggest enabler in all of the med corps tbh. Believes in happiness and autonomy as a primary element of wellbeing and this drives a lot of that enabling; is the most likely corrie medic to go out of the way to let u keep a scar you want even if it makes his job fixing underlying structures more difficult.
He’s actually quite good at being professional when hes Being A Medic, and honestly can be a little ruthless, in terms of not hesitating to make calls (because that’s how you get people killed). His specialization is in orthopedic and reconstructive/plastic surgery, which in practice means he’s NOT out of medical much when on shift; if he’s called onto site, things are really bad. On a good day he has no emergency cases, but most of his emergencies are cases where there needs to be immediate and dramatic surgical intervention to prevent fatality. Amputations, skin grafts, major muscular trauma, broken bones; he sees a lot of really nasty shit, in his emergency capacity. In a non-emergency capacity, he still sees a lot of unpleasant and upsetting things, because he’s, yknow. reconstructing things and overseeing recovery from skeletal trauma, but it’s much much safer and less stressful. As a result of all this, he has a really strong stomach and a skewed sense of when gore, blood, or guts gets upsetting.
Also in his capacity as a medic, but off-regulation, Tomo provides a lot of suppourt to trans vode with gender-affirming care! He’ll do just about anything that’s not hazardous; he refers for tracheal shaves and bottom surgeries that require significant specialization or more advanced/specialized equipment than he has. But fillers, FFS, top surgery, horomone access? He’s gotchu.
Also; he knows he's cute. He knows people see him kind of as a pathetic little creature. He ABSOLUTELY weaponizes the shit out of this as a medic. he can cry on command because he learned the magical efficiency of just BURSTING into tears on someone avoiding the medbay. If you aren't guilted/made uncomfortable enough to comply he'll just get someone to drug you and haul you off lol
He’s a really affectionate, friendly, and easygoing guy overall, but the part of him that i talk about most often is his Little Freak setting. This is a manifestation of extreme seperation anxiety. He’s good at respecting verbal boundaries but is a Stage 5 Clinger. He will follow you into the bathroom if ur having a conversation and not notice until ur like excuse me that its weird. He’s really scared of loosing people, either to death or just to the vast distances of the galaxy, so he really really wants to be like. tangibly tied to people. This is where his cannibalism schtick comes from like he cannot imagine a closer intimacy than the physical substance of one’s self being intergrated into the other through consumption…. carry him with you forever and vice versa….. woah…..
@mamuzzy also pulled a GALAXY BRAIN take putting him w Mereel in that one art. Rotted my brain hard for them as a cringefail couple where their respective toxic traits slide off each other like water off a duck. I have a Lot of meta for that im not going to elaborate on too much beyond tomos tendancy towards clinginess being satisfied by mereel pinging him when he’s away, mereel being unbothered and indulgent of his weirdness, and tomo being game enough to help mereel that mereels habit of social engineering and manipulation to get what he wants doesnt have a chance to get toxic bc tomo is already willing give mereel whatever he wants with the ironclad exception of endangering his patients, which he is too stubborn and protective to be manipulated directly about anyway.
I decided that they met bc mereel needed to change his apperance for smth, hooked up w tomo (convenient emotionally vulnerable mark! yippee!) to gain access to medical supplies, was asking about a kind of filler (intended use for joint injuries but off-label use as a filler) to figure out if he can self-administer it and Tomo was immediately like oh i can administer it if you want to try! It’s easy to dissolve if you don’t like it! Mereel agreed, Tomo put in the temporary fillers, and they both walked away from the encounter satisfied and with each other’s contact information in their pocket.
It is very important to note that while Tomo IMMEDIATELY recognized Mereel was interested in the filler’s capacity to change facial structure and apperance, he did not realize Mereel wanted apperance-altering interventions for a mission until months later when someone pointed out he is a black ops specialist and got together with Tomo to use his skills n specializations.  He had fully been working on the assumption that Mereel had just been interested in gender exploration even after they had an established pattern of Tomo administering temporary cosmetic procedures for Mereel’s missions
ANYWAY thank u I love him he is so deeply strange. just an odd little dude.
Tumblr media
#oc tomo#hes sooooo babygirl#i need to stress: he is so ride or die its literally self destructive#there is a network of squadmates n other medics devised solely to keep assholes from taking advantage#yes they r concerned abt mereel but it seems to be working?? mereel is not Actually asking for anything inappropriate#bc what hes asking tomo to do for him as favors is mostly medical suppourt which is fine#but shinies will beg him for help getting things that r much more dangerous if u dont put a stop to it#he Was accidentally involved in several corrie contraband rings before intervention#i am obsessed w mereel doing his mereel deal of trying to get tomo ingratiated to him only for at every step tomos already there#mereel: *carefully structuring tomos life so he does smth he wants*#tomo as soon as he picks up on it: oh lol here u go [GETTING A GOOD GRADE IN HELPING SOMETHING POSSIBLE TO ACHEIVE AND REASONABLE TO WANT]#mereel: i know i am good at being charming and getting people to give me things but something is definitely wrong with you#dynamic of mereel being like hes kind of like a weird pet and favor machine with absurd kinks i want to study him. i like him tho#and tomo being like yes i fully understand mereel would sell me to satan for 1 corn chip. he is one of my favorite people in the universe#its like 2 people firing dysfunctional relationship grenade launchers at each other n being in a perfect untouched circle after#NOT making each other better or healthier but somehow its working out... failing upwards etc etc#sorry for Massive Dump then Massive Tags i just adore this lil freak

The Tōka Tōka no Mi / Pass Pass Fruit
Tumblr media
At last, the meta post for my fan-made Devil Fruit! Tried to write it like a wiki entry (below the cut!). No spoilers for the anime as the events described below are purely my own lore.
The Tōka Tōka no Mi is a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that allows for anything with a physical presence to pass through the user’s body and vice versa. It was eaten by Bravada Yara prior to her joining the Whitebeard Pirates.
Etymology
Tōka (透過) is Japanese for “transmission”, “transparency” or “permeation”
In English, it is known as the “Pass Pass Fruit”
Appearance
The fruit is round in shape with a blue spherical core. Attached to the core are smaller yellowish-green spheres which are partially submerged into the core, as if passing through it. A twisted green stem extends from the top of the fruit, part of which is curled around itself.
Strengths
The Tōka Tōka no Mi is primarily a defensive fruit, granting the user the ability to negate any regular physical attack by allowing that attack to pass straight through their body. Barring the application of seastone or strong haki, physical weapons of all types are rendered completely ineffective. This includes but is not limited to blades, projectiles, elemental attacks such as lightning or fire, and hand-to-hand combat. Even a simple unwanted touch will not affect the user, as the offender will not be able to make physical contact and will instead pass through the user’s body. While the immunity to physical attacks that this fruit grants shares some similarities with the effects of an elemental Logia fruit, the Tōka Tōka no Mi is unique in that it enables the user to in turn bypass any obstacles in their path simply by walking right through them, whether it be walls, barricades, or even other people.
The user may also choose to deactivate the fruit’s powers at their will, which becomes particularly effective when the user has embedded part of themselves within an object or even an enemy’s body, which will cause breakage around whatever the user has chosen to embed themselves within.
Like other Paramecia fruits, this fruit is capable of being awakened. In its awakened form, the Tōka Tōka no Mi allows its user to transmit the fruit’s powers to any person or object the user touches, which if used effectively can alter the physics of a battlefield itself. The effects last until the user’s haki runs out.
Weaknesses
Unlike the vast powers of a Logia fruit, the Tōka Tōka no Mi grants no combat boons other than possible deactivation at a key moment to do damage to the user’s surroundings or to an opponent’s body. The deactivation is in of itself risky, however, as it can leave the deactivated parts of the user’s own body vulnerable. Furthermore, haki which is sufficient to overpower that of the user’s will negate the fruit’s effects and allow the attacker to land a blow on the user’s physical body regardless.
The user is also not immune to non-physical secondary effects of physical attacks such as a toxic gas released from a poisonous substance or smoke inhalation from a fire. Although the user cannot be crushed by a falling object, they will still take damage if they themselves fall. Otherwise, the user is affected by the standard Devil Fruit weaknesses.
Usages
Since the Tōka Tōka no Mi grants very little in the way of attack powers, it is most effectively utilised in combination with martial arts or weaponry. As a swordswoman, Yara has adapted the fruit’s abilities into her combat style. Known for her vicious slashing attacks, she is able to withstand what would otherwise be reckless close-quarters combat since most opponents she confronts are unable to do her any damage. By effectively utilising the fruit’s immense defensive capabilities with strong, precise swordplay, Yara has become a fearsome fighter well worth her significant bounty.
The fruit is also useful for navigating battlefields since the user can ignore any regular obstacles in their path. At the battle of Marineford, Yara is seen charging directly through rows of Marine soldiers, only stopping when encountering the seastone-infused walls surrounding the bay. Yara also uses the fruit’s powers to essentially create shortcuts for herself. She can quickly pass through solid barriers, preventing opponents from reaching her with their weapon. This also prevents them from pursuing her, making them lose sight of her as soon as she is on the other side of the barrier. With these applications, Yara can use the battlefield’s terrain to her advantage.
Outside of battle, Yara is frequently shown using her powers for trivial purposes. A running gag has her startling her crewmates by walking unannounced through the walls of the Moby Dick rather than using the door. In one scene, Ace finds himself unable to give her a hug when she employs her powers to keep him from touching her until he has taken a shower.
History
The fruit resided for an unknown amount of time at the Sisters of Heavenly Mercy Convent on Phestris Island in the Grand Line, where it was kept locked in a wooden box in the convent’s vault alongside other treasures thought to contain significant holy or unholy powers. It remained there untouched until the Phestris Island Incident, when a cell of Cipher Pol 5 agents led by Commander Thalamo Gustus ransacked the convent in order to locate an item thought to offer insight into the decryption of the Poneglyphs.
The Phestris Island Incident
Though the full details of this event were not made public, a record of it still exists in the classified Cipher Pol archives. It was triggered by intelligence received by a different Cipher Pol cell relating to a mysterious artifact known only as “the codex”, the existence of which has not been definitively proven. According to government theories, the codex is a partial record that survived the Void Century and could be used to potentially decipher some of the symbols displayed on the Poneglyphs. The intelligence suggested that this artifact was being kept at a vault of sacred objects in a small convent on Phestris Island, so a small cell of CP5 agents under the command of Thalamo Gustus were dispatched to quickly recover it.
At first, the relationship between the CP5 agents and the nuns at the convent were cordial, as the Mother Superior Margureta granted them permission to examine the artifacts in the large, sprawling vault to find what they were looking for. However, after three days of searching turned up no results, Gustus began to grow impatient. Suspecting that the nuns were hiding the codex’s true location, he ordered his agents to continue their search; this time much more forcefully. Walls were torn down and anything deemed ‘useless’ was trampled underfoot. When the nuns protested against the harsh treatment CP5 gave to their sacred artifacts, they were met with violence.
After an additional three days of searching turned up no results, Gustus ordered every single person in the convent, both the nuns and the orphaned girls they cared for, to be rounded up. They were held in the vault for twenty-four hours without food, water, or sleep. Guns were kept pointed at every person as CP5 interrogated each of the adults one at a time. A child who made any noise at all was immediately shot at. Gustus continued to demand that the nuns give up the codex, their pleas that they didn’t know what he was talking about falling on deaf ears.
When one of the older nuns passed out from the torture inflicted upon her, thirteen-year-old Yara, then one of the wards at the convent, took the opportunity presented by the ensuing confusion to try to escape. She successfully got through the door and ran down the labyrinthine corridors of the vault with the CP5 agents in hot pursuit, eventually making it to a small room that CP5 had already ransacked. She shut and locked the heavy door behind her and tried to formulate a plan, only then noticing a damaged wooden box. Opening it in hopes of finding a weapon, she instead discovered a strange-looking fruit. Recognizing what it was, and with CP5 about to break down the door, Yara made the split-second gamble to consume the Devil Fruit. Upon eating it, she learned it was called the Tōka Tōka no Mi, and barely had enough time to grasp the concept of its powers before CP5 broke down the door.
With her new abilities, Yara passed through the CP5 agents and headed back into the main room, where she discovered, much to her horror, that Gustus had begun his interrogation of the convent’s beloved old librarian, Sister Martha. Yara demanded that he stop, but Gustus, unaware that she had just consumed a Devil Fruit, merely laughed mockingly in response. He approached her, brandishing his baton, and took a swing at her, only for it to pass straight through her body. However, before Gustus had a chance to register that his attack had no effect, Yara drew back her fist and attempted to punch him. Unable to control her newly-acquired powers, her fist passed through his chest then suddenly deactivated, striking the man’s heart and crushing it instantly.
The CP5 agents who had left the room in pursuit of the girl came back just in time to see their commander slumped over, dead, in front of the escaped teenager, whose arm was now soaked in blood. There was nothing Yara could do except run. With only the clothes on her back, she made it out of the convent and sprinted towards the docks. Using her new powers, she hid in the walls of a departing cargo ship, holding her breath as CP5 searched the area. When they were unable to find her on board, they fanned out to search the rest of the island. The ship sailed away, and Yara was safe-- for now.
Cipher Pol chose to retreat from Phestris Island shortly after in order to lay their commander’s body to rest, leaving behind a partially-destroyed convent and a ton of broken artifacts. The codex was not recovered (it was later begrudgingly admitted that it had probably never been there in the first place and the initial intelligence received had been incorrect) and the mission was ultimately deemed a failure. Within only a few days of the incident, a bounty was issued for a teenage girl-- a ruthless killer who had viciously murdered a brave, innocent government agent in cold blood-- worth 48,000,000 Berry.

i don’t think leaving the crows entirely is in the cards for magpie and lucanis but i can see a post game future where lucanis gives up the first talon seat, probably after caterina dies and he’s been forced to actually Do His Job as first talon for a couple of months and has a breakdown about it lol. i think after that he and magpie just like, operate more or less independently but are still technically crows. because magpie simply will not leave while viago is there. that isn’t an option. but if lucanis giving up on being first talon is what keeps them both sane and allows them to spend more time with neve she could do that. so probably they just live out their days killing blood mages and cultists across tevinter for insane sums of money and in between help neve solve her cases and still host family dinners with viago and teia occasionally :)
#idk who the new first talon would be but i Do have a series of very dramatic scenes in my mind#that take place over a couple of years and culminate in lucanis losing his fucking mind after caterina dies for real#bc i believe his avoidant ass is refusing to actually do anything of substance while she’s alive and running the show#which is a major point of contention between him and caterina. because she wants him to learn what needs to be done and he refuses#and runs off to tevinter at the slightest provocation.#it doesn’t help that before the events of the game magpie’s whole career as a crow was getting viago into the fifth talon seat#and then protecting his status#and so she’s…. kind of on caterina’s side. slightly.#however she’s also happy to run off to tevinter on contracts so it’s mostly her going ‘maybe you should listen to caterina? idk. whatever.’#i do believe there’s an issue with she insists the seat go to viago but lucanis is leaning toward teia because he thinks it’s what caterina#would have wanted. idk how this is decided in the end#basically i’ve devised a series of fights for magpie and lucanis to get into that neve has no idea how to resolve because it’s Crow Business#LMAO#i’ll have more thoughts on her place in this when i’ve finished her romance i think#but 1. i still don’t know if her getting blighted is canon and 2. i want to see how her romance plays out#before i can really decide#so it’s mostly lucanis and magpie drama rn#漫言#oc. magpie#r. birds of a feather#datv spoilers

I’m here for different interpretations of characters, but sometimes I see some art or writing where said character is literally unrecognisable and just think “why don’t you simply make Your Own Guy at this point”. What is stopping them I genuinely don’t understand. Is it so they can stay in a popular character tag and be more visible??
