To Cipher Family: What do you think of Halloween or Summerween?

Demonique Cipher: The best part of Halloween gotta be trick or threating. I've never done it in years, so when Dipper and Mabel asked me to join them this Summerween I was compelled. Of course, I knew what I would dress up as. A VAMPIRE!! *nervously chuckles* You know, the one that sucks blood. *nervouslu laughs again*

Dipper: You're lucky you're not a boy, Sophie.

Mabel: It's unfortunate that your brother is too young for me. He'd make for a cute boyfriend.

Demonique: What's it with you and boys? Oh, that reminds me, this summerween my brother dressed up as... our father: Bill.

Dipper: Isn't he always dressed up like that?

Mabel: No, he's not. Sometimes he dresses up like Queen of Hearts of Wonderland.

Dipper: Wait, really? I thought he wears the same outfit everyday.

Mabel: Unlike you Devon washes his clothes once in a while.

Demonique: Yeah, that's when he usually dresses up like his mom.

Dipper: Wait, his mom? But Queen of Hearts can't be his mother. She's just a character from fairytales.

Demonique: Fairytales are just as real as Gravity Falls is. I know. I've visited there. I think my brother has a crush on Alice, even thought she's supposedly his mom's arch-nemesis.

Mabel: REALLY?!

Dipper: He is? I thought Devon is too attached to his parents to do anything that would disobey them.

Mabel: Dipper, just because he's inlove with his mother's enemy doesn't means he's disobeying her. Love is something we feel while disobeying is more like an action we do. Sigh... Devon is always after his parents' approval. Let's hope things work out for him. Maybe this Alice girl can change his mind about Bill.

Dipper: Mabel, I'm not too sure about that

Devon: Best part of Halloween? Candy! Althought because I worked with daddy and tried to destroy the town I didn't had the guts to go around asking for candy from the people I tried to destroy.

Dipper: Yeah, it had nothing to do with the fact that your fear of the dark or clowns.

Devon: Be quite or I'll start calling you Pinetree! *turns away* That's okay, thought. My sister shared half of hers. And it was great that Stanley brought out a bag of candy and shared it with everyone... I still don't like Stanley thought. He killed daddy... Sitting at the ceiling, famoly and friends holding hands, eating candy together, isn't this what Halloween is all about?

Bill Cipher: The best part of Halloween? Aside from the screams that's gotta be me! I was there in the first halloween. In that day a hat wearing time traveler kid fell into a pile of mud, and anyone who saw it decided that she was a zombie and that evil spirits came back for vengance. I found the idea amusing and decided it'd be fun too mess with them for a bit. So, I went asking "Trick or Threat". When people respond with trick I gave them a jumscare that made some of them got a heartattack. For the people who said "threat" I threated their lives. All of their screams were amusing. Until some lunatic changed it to "Trick or Treat"! After that, the day of horrors turned to a society's joke!

Best Pokémon Villains Tournament- Individuals Bracket- Round 1: Match 14

....I'm sorry but this is a very funny pair of pictures next to one another.

Well, that aside, Gonzap, head of Team Snagem, has possibly the best facial hair in this competition and the muscles to match! Another big personality from the Orre region, he's the gang of the Pokémon thieves of Team Snagem, a gang that developed the technology to catch Pokémon already caught by other trainers- truly villainous! But that's not all, he was actively working with Cipher in their original Shadow Pokémon scheme, and being one of the final battles against the player in that game- with a team full of beefy beasts! Later on, in XD: Gale of Darkness, he teams up with the player against his former associates after they left him on the wayside. Gonzap's biggest battle strategy is simple- Hyper Beam everything! This includes even using a Skarmory that shouldn't know it- more illegality it seems! Can this man of muscle snag your heart?

Standing in his way is Shelly, admin of Team Aqua! The brains of the organisation, she used to work for the Devon Corporation, and that connection gave Team Aqua access to much of their research. She works closely alongside Archie to fulfill her goals, and gets in the player's way multiple times, proving a proficient battler with a forceful personality. Despite that, her smarts come through in the end, as she tries to convince Archie not to awaken Kyogre after all- but too late. Shelly's presence is felt throughout Sapphire and its remake, though with a drastic redesign in the latter, having originally been a redhead! With brains, beauty, and brawn, she's got it all, and is that enough to win this match?

Design Doc 7: Mesa Verde

I apologise in advance for whatever the hell this is going to turn into. If you hadn't noticed, I am hooked on the Ciphers badly at the moment. However, that does mean I'm already very familiar with the contents of the design doc and so might not end up with much commentary to make.

More for my own use than anything else: They either cut and dry vegetables and 'game meat', or turn it into stew.

Unprompted gushing: I love how freaking stubborn the Ciphers can be when it's warranted. They refuse to host a Daughter of Hecate, even at the cost of being held in a siege by the Vipers. And even then, they adamantly refuse to eat Denom's rad-crops.

Okay, okay, I found more crops! They have soybeans, carrots, cabbages and squash :D.

The first mention of Alexandra has reminded me that she technically has her own mini design doc. I think a few other characters way later on got their own also. Might add those on at the end of the readthrough if I can glean enough info from them to warrant it.

Trig's singing of schematics delights me to no end.

Somehow I genuinely forget on a regular basis that the design doc Ciphers use body paint to cover themselves in schematics and formulas (my edition don't).

when the story ends, and kimberly is dead at his door, he runs away. he ends up going to a town to see a ‘freddy fazbears reopening!’. he curiously goes in. he then follws some kids, a 15 year old girl named ophelia, a 14/15 year old girl named samntha, and someone else. turns out there following a yellow bunny man.

He is now toy bonnie.

Alec:  

he’s secretly inlove with tea. It calms him down

‘alec’:

the main reason lonely freddy’s were made was to get more ‘people’ under aftons contol. though they do have a system. if someone finds out, eliminate them. if it’s multiple, off youself. alecs family found out, 4 years after tff was formed. it was after present 1, but before they face willaim for the first time.

also lonely freddy is like, bill cipher, in dippers body. doesn’t care about harming it. one time he was about to stab his hand with a fork, but then hazel came, so he didn’t. 

hazel:

20 years after tff is formed, she get’s murdered in an allyway. alec finds her and is, UPSET. he ends up finding a rusty bonnet, fixing her up (with help), and somehow, puts her soul into bonnet.

Devon: 

his dad is willaim afton.........

When he was 14, he sometimes hang out with the fnaf 4 tormentors. I mean......they were the same age...

susie:

The susie from fruity maze (I think that’s what the games called) and the susie from coming home are the same susie. the one from fruity maze though is an illusion disk version of susie (she was with the fazbear frights, they each have disguse illusion disks). plus, she first died in 1977, and didn’t die with the rest of everyone (they didn’t die together in the first place anyways....)

samantha:

 ten years late, she goes to a grand re-opening of freddy’s. she then spots something, and decides to follow it. when she’s following it, she mets a girl named ophelia, and a boy named greg.

she’s now mangel 

Toby:

toby actually watched willaim murder susie. before he was caught by willaim. Let’s just say he has a little virus in him now.

that and his mum is mrs afton before she became mrs afton.

julius:

 he secretly had a MASSIVE crush on reed, since, kindergarden. but julius found out the only way to get reeds attention was to be mean. Julius was around reed for so long though, that the meaness kinda, leaked into his personality.

chris:

 is a clone of evan (C.c). his personality was specificaly designed by dave (willaim). even his fears. the reason he had a fear of teeth? dave made that so he wouldn’t be able to figure out he’s a clone, or so there wouldn’t be anymore clones of him (which, backfired.)

‘chris’:

the chris clone isn’t dangerous. a week after ‘he told me everything’ takes place, he goes into his dads workshop, only to find a journal fulled with how he’s a clone of a clone. he then unfortunately, gets stabbed, and locked up in a familular, box. there’s one last thing he hears before he blacks out when he’s being put in the box. “I will put you back together.”

dave, then uses a hidden machine that makes false memories, and can also hide some, on his wife and daughter, making them forget chris even existed.

emma:

she is a clone of elizabeth. when he reaches highschool, she creates an animatronic based off some blueprint in her dads office. she calls the animatronic, elanor. she built her to try and find someone that she can’t remember much, but know’s is important. 

angel:

her story actually took place a month after hide and seek, at the same location. the reason dominic is new boss in training. let’s say it has something to do with toby’s ‘disappearance’. Gumdrop angel attraction? Something new to replace hide and seek. anyways, angel get’s saved by the lights flickering in and off by somesort of unnatural thing (cough, toby, cough). and animatronics like her, or lonely freddy, can move naturally when its dark. 

the place ended up closing, but not actually closing so tff could come in and let angel and toby join.

charlie (puppet):

she was the one who put the dead bodys in the suits. also, when she died, her soul went into the puppet, but her agony went into a rag-doll that henry used to make the animatronic her’s.

charlie rag-doll:

the charlie ragdoll, gained agony, letting it make, a sort of artificial soul, that had no previous memories, but would be able to go on and experence things. henry made the animatronic her’s and put the rag-doll inside. henery made it so when the rag-doll was inside the animatronic, the animatronic it’s self wouldn’t have any memeories, letting charlie live her life as normal as it could be.

TSE charlie:

since each of the charlie stages have an animatronic, her animatronic was funtime foxy. after Tfc, something went of, turning her back into funtime foxy.

carlton:

he posseses molten freddy a month after tfc. yay.... also, willaim tryied dragging him down to hell, and it.... kinda worked? I mean.... Molten freddy down there is the only one with an actual soul.

also since molten freddy is also tecnacaly ennard, he has all of ennards memories. and ennard as all the memories of the funtimes. and the funtimes have the memories of the souls. so like, carlton gained like, 7 extra set of memories. OOF.

jessica: 

sometime after tfc she posses funtime chica.

sometime after tfc, he posses glamrock freddy.

vanny:

she is not security girl. she is tape girl. And maria from step closer

in the past, he duplicated himself. one remained willaim, and the other, dave. 

sped up to his time in hell, the glitchtrap code duplicated himself once again. so there are 3 willaims going around, making havic on the world. jesus.

After seeing the last episode on the YouTube channel GrandLineReview, I wanted to comment about a thing I hate about One Piece, but it was too long (as all my writtings tend to be), so I’m posting it here.

I apologise for all gramatical mistakes that will inevitabely appear.

I hate how female characters either don’t appear as much as males or are left as background characters while the males duke it out.

Marines: I can remember about three female characters from the top of my head (Tashigi, Tsuru and Hina) and even though there are more (Tsuru’s crew) there is nowhere near enough to counter the males. Additionally, we know of two former Fleet Admirals (Sengoku and Kong), one current (Sakazuki), and five Admirals (Akainu [former], Aokiji [former], Kizaru, Fujitora and Ryokugyu). Notice a trend? All males.

Cipher Pol: While writting about the Marines, I thought that maybe the reason for the lack of females was that the society at large expected women to not fight and simply take care of the house. With that being the case, it would make sense for Marines to promote the idea, since it would fit with the world at large. It would also make sense for the lack of female characters in CP1-8, since those are known to public (maybe even CP0, since they work mainly for the World Nobles and need to keep up the appearances). But it would not explain CP9, which is an allegedly assassination organisation unknown to the world. In that case a female would be more inconspicuous and thus better at assassination. So, either my idea is wrong and the Marines and CP0-8 have no real explanation for their lack of females or CP9 has no good explanation for only having Kalifa out of at least 8 known characters.

Pirates: Even if theory of misogyny mentioned above is true, pirates, who rebel against the World Government should have a better track record.

Shichibukai (including former, but not Blackbeard, since he’ll be a bit down with the Yonko): Admitedly, Shichibukai work for the World Government, but they’re more of independant contractors than actual employees. So, from all the know Shichibukai Mihawk, Kuma and Weevil get a pass, since they don’t have a crew. Boa Hancock gets one as well, since she does have an all female crew, but her whole crew (present, past and future, since Kija Pirates just seem to pass from generation to generation) is made of Kuja women only and doesn’t seem inclined to recruit out of her island. Which kind of makes sense, but is also discriminatory of every non-Kuja woman. Now to the rest. Crocodile had a bounty hunter organisation that employed both males and females, most notably current Straw Hat Nico Robin, who, once they got up high enough on the ladder worked in male-female duos. That sounds good, but (while I am not going to go back to manga/anime) I remember that, when explaining the structure of Baroque Works to Straw Hats, Vivi said that the number agents are the strongest men in the organisation, who then get a female partner with complementary skill set. Enough said. Next, Moria. But, there’s not much to say, since he basically had 3 living crew members and with that number it’s either man-man-woman or man-woman-woman, so it’s good enough that he didn’t have three men. Jinbei and honestly Fisher Tiger (who I still love and cry when I see him die) did a terrible job at gender equality, since there are no fishwomen or mermaids on the crew of Sun Pirates (there’s Praline, but she’s Aladins wife and joins during time-skip as a part of alliance with Big Mom, so I’m not really counting her). And we have no evidence that fishwomen or mermaids would be any worse at fighting than mermen or fishmen. Trafalgar Law does a bit better, but with one woman out of 20 crew members it’s still not much. Buggy (a guy I totally forgot was a part of this group, sorry Buggy fans) has a huge crew, but out of the well known ones, I’m pretty sure that only Alvida is female, but I cannot be certain that he doesn’t have more. And lastly, Doflamingo. Here I only count the Donquixote Family, since counting every minion would take too long. Out of his Elite Officers (the guys that stood for heart, club, diamond and spade) there were five (Roscinante and Vergo both standing for heart) and all male. Each of them could have subordinates which were: Giolla, Sugar, Violet, Lao G, Senor Pink, Dellinger, Machvise, Gladius, Buffalo, Baby 5. Then there was Monet, who was part of the family, but neither as an elite officer or an official subordinate of one. In total, out of 16 there are 5 females. Like with Moria, it is roughly one third, but better than some other and Doflamingo could have had more females. My main concern nere were the Elite Officers, but they were in general much harder to defeat than the other. Those that jump out would be Sugar (as being hard to defeat, but we need to take into consideration that she was being actively protected by Trebol), Vergo (being easier to defeat than other Elite Officers [in my oppinion], but that took Laws genuinly OP Devil Fruit] and Roscinante (since he didn’t seem to do much and his Devil Fruit was kind of useless, so he either had hidden skill we didn’t see or nepotism).

Yonko: Since this is much lower on the list, I actually thought through the order of writting (from most women inclusive to least) and am not winging it like the rest. Firstly, Big Mom (Charlotte Linlin). She is a female and her crew is greatly inclusive to both genders and all races (species?), though the higher ups (Sweet Commanders, Ministers) seem to be ONLY her children. That means that unless a blood relative of hers a character has little to no chance of mattering. But that could be due to both her and her children, in general, being stronger than at least humans, as well as most of her crew being made up of Homies (if I remember correctly). Out of her three (formerly four) Sweet Commanders one, Smoothie, is female and, while she is weaker than Katakuri (like most of her family), her bounty is higher than Crackers, so she presents a bigger threat according to the World Government. Taking her and Crackers Devil Fruits into consideration, it is likely that Smoothie is more powerful than Cracker (without Devil Fruit), since Cracker can use his whenever he feels like but Smoothie seems to need to get close up, making her fruit harder to use against many enemies at once and thus needing to rely on other abilities. Like Big Mom, Kaido does employ many females, but not as much where it counts. For me, the characters from the Beast Pirates that I remember are Kaido, the All Stars and the Tobiroppo and from those 9, 2 are female (only Ulti and Black Maria). Not to say that those two aren’t awsome, I love both, especially Ulti, but I don’t think that it’s enough. On top of that, the All Stars (which are basically the Beast Pirates version of the Sweet Comanders) are all male, so not even the one third. Then we get onto Blackbeard, from who’s crew we know only the 10 Titanic Captains, where only one (Catarina Devon) is female. That could certainly be better and I will not comment much further, since the 10 Captains themselves show that Blackbeard has a gigant crew, most of who we don’t know, but having a few more females there would be better, since any Blackbeard female shown from now on will most likely be weaker than any of the captains. Next is Whitebeard, whose crew I genuinely hate. I honestly think that Whitebeard is cool and I support the idea of blood not making a family, but any and all females on his crew are nurses. No fighters, let alone a female being one of the 16 Divison Commanders (I checked and Haruta is male. I also heard some people mention Whity Bay, but she’s an ally and a captain of her own crew, not a Whitebeard pirate). So, while there are females, it showes them as damsels in distres rather than foghters. Nothing more to say. Lastly, the worst offender, Shanks. No females. That’s it. There is not a single female character that would be a known member of the Red Haired pirates, not even as a nurse. Grantes, we still don’t know much about Shanks or the Red Haired pirates, but we’ve seen them at Marinefort and I think that if at least one female from the crew was an important fighter, she would be there. So, there could be some, but either not strong or not a fighter at all.

Straw Hats: Let’s be honest, we all love Straw Hats, but they’ve got problems. There are females, but it’s still only two out of then, neither of the two is part of the three strongest (until the time skip Nami was actually seen as one of the weaker members and before Alabasta she didn’t even fight) and even their fighting styles show a problem. This is something I wanted to also point out (before this rant became longer than some of my essays [and I didn’t even research here, just checked to make sure some of the things I wrote were actually true and to check the names]), but another thing I don’t like is how even when female characters are shown, they are not fighters, not GOOD fighters (or in general tend to be weaker than men) or are long distance fighters. Nami and Robin are a great mple of the last. Both of them attack from a distance, which makes sense with their weapon/Devil Fruit, but all the other Straw Hats (excluding Usopp) fight at close or mid distance. That makes the Straw Hats balances, but it doesn’t make sense that neither of them are close combat (at least statistically), especially since Nami DIDN’T FIGHT until Alabasta (and even there her combat with Miss Doublefinger was pretty close range) so her fighting style could have been thought of for a long time. And Robin DOES have some close ranged attacks (shown in Alabasta and Skypiea arcs) but just doesn’t use them (especially post time-skip). And that’s not even talking about Haki. Logicaly speaking, it would make all sense in the world for Robin to have at least Arnament, since it would give her already OP (if used correctly) Devil Fruit a way to more effectively attack other Devil Fruit users and even normal enemies (since Arnament also seems to make attacks stronger, not only allow Devil Fruit users to be hurt) and, unlike basicaly all the other Straw Hats, who didn’t learn Haki during the time-skip, Robin was surrounded by people who knew Haki and could have taught her.

there are few passengers on this ship beyond the promethean’s crew as well-travelled and seasoned in exploration as lijin. her mind, multidisciplinary and sharper than any aboard, and her polyglot mastery of french, will be most advantageous in the coming days. he's summoned her here under veil of secrecy and recounted the survivors’ reports. already, the strings and threads of conspiracy are beginning to unspool. 

“this is the map of devon island the second in command marked for us.”  hugo gestures at the map laid out before them, the two solitary crosses etched in charcoal across it.  “here, the approximate location of where the agathe sunk. and here, where they made camp for the weeks that followed.”  his gaze flickers upwards, locks on hers as he speaks, the cool equanimity of his voice like steel sheathed in velvet.  “awfully convenient that the captain who was not their captain crossed nearly the entire island to reach them, is it not?”

Plot Summary:

Kate has Abe and Devon hash out their problems. Professor O’Donnell reveals more about the descent of Hyperborean wisdom and the rise of the Ogdru Hem. And we get the flipside of Willis’ confrontation from last issue.

pg. 1 - Abe’s certainly pissed off. So’s Kate. Great expressions from Guy Davis. Also good to see this dealt with head on.

pg. 3 - Doubt of what he is, fear of what the Black Flame told him he could be, and lack of understanding regarding what he became is definitely an interesting plot thread and character arc for Abe. The build for more development of Abe, both in BPRD and in future Abe Sapien stories is nice.

pg. 4 - Did Devon seriously think Abe was going to shake his hand?

pg. 5 - I love that odd UN liaison bureaucrat guy still hasn’t been given a name. He’s just a cipher that serves as a stand-in for the faceless oversight of the broader organization.

pg. 7 - Interesting reaction here to Fenix from the agents.

pg. 8 - I love O’Donnell. He’s crazy as hell, but usually right. Like the madman screaming out prophecies.

pg. 9 - The switch from golden age to ruin for the Hyperboreans is wonderfully depicted here. It underlines nicely what O’Donnell is trying to explain regarding the current situation. That despite knowledge, true or otherwise, the fall is on its way. That hubris ultimately would only bring it about faster.

pg. 11 - The explanation for the Ogdru Hem, or the monsters running wild across the world right now, is creepy. It nicely ties back into the first Hell on Earth arc as to what that baby monster thing was. And just how creepy they are when they possess creatures. I mean, just look at that thing. The fact that it defies the moose’s natural anatomy and places the eyes on the horns... Guy Davis’ creature designs and executions are just phenomenal.

pg. 12-14 - The genesis of the shaman who’s been depicted numerous times and ultimately helped Liz previously is another good development, fleshing out more of the broader world. The lore building is great here.

pg. 15 - There’s a feeling of timelessness here when it comes to whenever this is supposed to happen. Long after the fall of the first civilizations, but before the rise of Mesopotamia and Egypt. It’s own post-apocalyptic world following the fall of Hyperborea helps underline the concept of cycles that we get both in O’Donnell’s initial outburst and in what we get through Ragnarok.

pg. 17 - Another great monster design. Also interesting that they can shift back and forth. And it makes you wonder about the different monsters and beasts that we’ve already seen. This one shows intelligence and an ability to communicate. What about the others?

pg. 18 - The shaman gets a name; Shonchin. Beautiful art from Davis and Stewart. I love that blue glow of the vril energy.

pg. 19 - O’Donnell’s also echoing what Daimio said in New Earth and a bit of what the Black Flame was hinting at during the Scorched Earth trilogy, that the world has changed. And that the method of infiltration and battlefield have both shifted as well.

pg. 20 - And we’re at the flipside to the conclusion from last issue.

pg. 22 - Love the tension here leading in to the final chapter.

Final Thoughts:

I quite like the story structure for this arc, following the kids in the previous chapter, and the Bureau in this one. Then converging at the cliffhanger stage to set up whatever goes on in the final chapter. It’s a nice way of developing the two different threads and adding a greater amount of weight and tension when it comes to the finale, since it has been built up from two sides.

“Without him… well, I wouldn’t be as oh so marvelous as I am now, right?” She giggled unnervingly.

She tugged a pigtail, trying to recall her long term memory. “Back when I was at Devon Corp, there was this total dreamboat who’d come check on us every week or so. Talk to the little people, bring Lava Cookies, that kinda stuff. I think he was, like, supposed to be the heir to the company or something…?”

With a snort, Lovrina shakes her head. “It’s been so long, though… I’d doubt he’d recognize me today!”

Day 4: “Stargazer”

Synopsis: Michael has been traveling on his own throughout the Pokémon world for a couple of years now, sightseeing through multiple regions and experiencing their cultures, talking with their people and seeing the many different customs and practices. He finds himself reminiscing one night in the Hoenn Region, wondering if perhaps the Orre Region isn’t so distant from the rest of the world after all…

Author’s Note: Finally, a simpler prompt! And a bit of a shorter one, because I kind of needed it. I’ll be honest, “Challenger” was the hardest to write so far, mostly because I’m not confident in how I write Pokémon battles. I try to mostly follow the rules of the games but also keep some of the excitement from different mediums like the multiple Pokémon anime series we’ve had as well as Pokémon Adventures. Here, I wanted to illustrate a more mature, reflective Michael who has learned a lot, condensing some of his progression but still showing some of the naiveté that I feel will always be a part of his character—at least my interpretation of his character anyway.

This was a nice, calming one to write, as was the drawing. I drew it one evening while out in a restaurant with my family as I was having a bit of a bad day. This was actually weeks before Orre Week started, but it inspired me to go with these prompts and stories that went along with pictures. So originally, the other sketches were going to be inked like this one, but I ultimately left them as sketches (and did a liiiiittle bit of editing to give them an inked appearance). Here is one of two drawings that are actually inked.

“Gosh, we still have another route to get through before we reach Lilycove City…” Michael sighed as he stared down at his P*DA, viewing a map on its screen. “I suppose even if I’m given a P*DA Map feature, it’s not going to help my poor sense of travel and time, huh Jolteon?”

As Michael looked down at his yellow-furred companion, Jolteon scowled at his trainer with a sense of frustration. Michael laughed anxiously, scratching the back of his head.

“Come on now Jolteon, it’s not so bad. It’s another opportunity for us to camp out. Let’s find a nice spot, shall we?” Michael pushed through some of the tall grass around him, cutting through with Jolteon keeping an eye out for wild Pokémon sneaking around in the night. But the area had generally remained peaceful, with only a few wild Pokémon daring to approach the Orrean duo. Michael occasionally found himself tripping on a stray twig otherwise, never in much danger.

Walking further ahead, Michael then saw a vast lake stretched out before him. It shimmered under the moonlight, with the twinkling of the stars reflecting in its waves. Even Jolteon couldn’t help but stare at the sight, seeing Volbeat and Illumise flying over the lake with their flickering tails that made for a scene one would only dream of seeing in paintings

“Wow, this is gorgeous…” Michael breathed, looking down to Jolteon. “How about we sleep here Jolteon?”

With a bark of agreement and delight, Michael and Jolteon crawled out of the tall grass, with Michael kneeling at the lake’s shore as he pulled out a towel. He laid it on the ground, then sitting on top of it as he took off his fanny pack and set it aside. His camping set-up was a simple one to be sure, and while it had taken time to get used to not having his comfortable bed from his room, he was perfectly fine with it when the weather was normal. Jolteon settled next to Michael’s resting spot, pawing at the ground and preparing his spot before sitting down.

Leaning back on the towel, Michael looked back towards the grassy fields he had just climbed out of as well as the tall trees and flowers surrounding them. He had never seen such tall grass in any of the places he had been to so far—Kanto, Oblivia, Alola, Unova, Fiore, Johto… And he still found he had so much more to see.

“I can’t believe how bountiful the Hoenn Region is… And with so much technology too. Oh, and that the Devon Corporation was willing to show us some of their equipment and even some of their projects in development! I’m glad we got them connected with Makan and Perr, and they were able to all put together the P*DA Map with the PokéNav technology. It really opened some opportunities for us, didn’t it Jolteon?”

Jolteon nodded with a bark of recognition, purring as he enjoyed the soft breeze flowing through his spikey fur. Even he felt a sense of contentment traveling the rest of the world along with his master and fellow Pokémon companions. His ears twitched as he continued to listen to the reflections of his master, his tail wagging steadily.

“I mean, the city we just came from, Fortree City… I know Agate Village was built around nature too, but Fortree followed the concept in a new way. They built them into the trees themselves and are living along with nature itself. It blended in so well…” Michael closed his eyes as he re-envisioned the city, with other locations flashing through his mind. “And then there was the ash falling from Mount Chimney… The snowy, glacial mountains in Oblivia… The tropical islands of Alola… And that massive metropolis in Unova…!”

Opening his green eyes back up, Michael glanced towards Jolteon as he chuckled. “Sorry to go on like that Jolteon. Just… wouldn’t it be great if Orre could be the same?”

Jolteon nodded as he looked towards the stars in the sky, with Michael’s head following the same direction. The sky was colorful with not just a deep navy, but shades of purple and ivory with star clusters. He found himself picking out constellations, his ears taking in the chirps of nocturnal Pokémon around him as he took in the atmosphere.

His eyes then caught a brief white streak across the sky, eyelids widening and letting out a small gasp. But before he could even speak, several more shooting stars followed as the sky began to light with these elements. “Wow! Look at that meteor shower! I didn’t even know there was one tonight! And the sky is so clear…”

Jolteon exhaled with bewilderment as he stared at the collection of meteors burning into the atmosphere, with the reflection of the stars and meteors gleaming in the lake. It were almost as if the lake itself were a window to a parallel world, with even bits of Michael and Jolteon’s reflection in the water. The Pokémon and his trainer kept their eyes locked on the sky together, Michael’s mind then drifting into an old memory.

The night after the Pokémon HQ Lab’s celebration, Michael had walked outside and climbed up to the roof of the lab. This wasn’t an uncommon habit of his, as even in his childhood he had snuck on the roof with his then young Eevee. But that night, he had begun to feel lost in what to do. He had stopped Cipher, returned all of the Shadow Pokémon to their true states and back to their original owners, and had explored Orre to the farthest corners he was aware of. And after all was said and done, he had no goal in mind. And that very night, the same stars shined down on him and Jolteon from his very home, with its own falling stars crossing the skies.

Michael blinked as he heard a distant howl echo throughout the area, snapping him back into reality as he found himself gazing at the same sky. But not once did his mind truly realize the difference between what he was remembering and what he was seeing. Michael then straightened up his stance as he continued to watch the occasional shooting star, a smile suddenly coming across his face.

“You know Jolteon…” Michael began, with his Jolteon looking back over to his trainer. “The stars… are still the same here. They’re no different from Orre, are they?”

Jolteon’s head tilted at Michael’s sudden statement, with a curious whimper coming from his throat.

“Sure, Orre doesn’t have a sort of Pokémon League or wild Pokémon or even a region that’s very lively… But it still has people and Pokémon, doesn’t it? Don’t we all still live part of the same world and live under the same sky?”

Michael then laid back on his towel, with a growing smile on his face as he continued to think aloud with Jolteon soon laying alongside him. “In that case, we deserve to play a part in it. I know we have some complications, but… maybe we can change that somehow.”

Change. It was something people feared. An undertaking that was heavier than a quest around the world for self-discovery. Its results were always a mystery, with no one truly knowing how change would affect the world around them. But it was change that always progressed the world—sometimes for better, yet sometimes for worse. But Pokémon Trainers had not existed without humans and Pokémon making the change to strengthen their bonds. Pokémon Leagues would not exist without humans creating the tradition. So many of the regions throughout the world would not be connected without their communities making the effort to connect with each other. Change dictated and directed the world.

The very word—change—brought a now familiar face to Michael’s mind. A tall and lean young man with tanned skin and brown hair, wearing simply a white cap, green glasses, a lab coat, gray pants and green sandals. The man always wore his huge, enthusiastic grin with his stubble, full with so much energy that he might not have been human.

“Kukui… Professor Kukui strived to put together Alola’s new Pokémon League…” Michael mumbled. “He worked with so many people to put together the Island Challenge, and he never wavered. He was such a cheery guy to talk with, and so understanding of the kind of situation Orre and its people are in…”

Change… Thinking of the word once more, Kukui’s face burned into Michael’s mind with his usual grin and hearty laugh. And with such passion as his, Kukui made change happen. Change that was strong enough to transform an entire region and its customs.

“Maybe… That’s what I need to do,” Michael sat up once more. “If I can bring change to the Orre Region just the same, I can bring it a better future for everyone too. That’s a change that would be for the better, just like with Alola… Don’t you think Jolteon?”

Looking over, Michael then saw Jolteon had now fallen asleep, curled up and gently snoring up against his towel. Seeing his lifelong partner at peace, Michael couldn’t help but smile as he gently pet the yellow canine’s head as he purred in his sleep. Fatigue finally began to settle into Michael’s mind, as he laid back down and turned to his side facing Jolteon. Taking off his hat and setting it down, Michael then continued to pet Jolteon’s soft body as his eyes finally began to shut.

“We’ll… figure it out, I’m sure…” Michael yawned as his mind finally began to settle, with the faint idea of a new Orre forming in his mind. “And when we do… We’ll make a brighter future for the Orre Region.”
