I am legitimately awful to interact with.

I have Work mode, where I over utilise my vocabulary to maximum capacity to further the business justification of retaining my services

I have Small Talk mode, which is 'an elevator much like the one we are in now once dropped me four floors then went up seven, dropped another three and dislocated my knee when it stopped. I also like the storm we are currently having and this area is known to lose power, which is required for elevator safety overrides' or 'did you go to that orgy of Paul's on the weekend? I know you enjoy sex' or 'there was a frog outside and it was very small and now I am feeling too large and I don't know why I have arms'

I have Hyperfixation mode in which I will detail the infill parameters of my FDM 3d print I have on my desk as well as the filament, temperature, bed temperature and bed platform, the troubles with replacing the hotend, the x-axis realignment and the fan speeds, and the way I like to print circular things because the noise the servo makes is like popping candy for my ears

I have Story mode in which I will elaborate about one of many book ideas I have that I will never write or finish

I have Useless Lesbian mode (which I engaged today because a lady at work was wearing sneakers and a leather jacket and I had to hide my face) in which a high-pitched noise comes out of me because someone Impossibly Pretty exists in my vicinity (and I wish I didn't)

There's NPC mode where someone has a neural pathway I cannot fathom and I cannot follow their talking points but they seem enthusiastic and it's not like they're waxing poetic about genocide so I nod confusedly

And then there is Eeeeeerft mode in which I don't actually know what to do so I don't engage. Or I leave it to them, and they leave it to me. And I don't have to be friends with everyone but I do enjoy some people sometimes - people come to me with things they're shyly excited about because I thrive on Enthusiasm and I'm like a cockatoo - if there is dancing to be had, I'll dance. But basically this mode where I cosplay as a normal human with no personality that exists quietly and unflamboyantly despite the galaxy hair and waistcoats and steelcaps tucked into flared chinos and 3d printed spaceships

And there is Shame mode where I suddenly remember that I'm not a good person and feel bad for anyone having to interact with me and hide in a cupboard with my laptop until I can leave

I guess I wish things were different and I didn't have to interact with people but I have one more week of this and the coffee isn't bad and my work wives are a strong and abundant force that propel me through the day

I won't say I've missed being around people, but I have missed feeling part of something.

alright here's my idea - an au where jayvik meet as kids, with viktor working for a street magician, rigging all the fake tricks behind the scenes, and jayce as a little magic fanboy 🪄✨

some thoughts on this au:

jayce has been obsessed with magic acts ever since his life was saved by a sorcerer. there's a new performer in town who can do tricks no one else can, and jayce in convinced he must be the real deal. one day he sneaks backstage in the hopes of finding evidence of real magic, but finds viktor instead, who he assumes must be the magician's apprentice!

viktor is torn because he doesn't want to ruin this kid's enthusiasm, or risk losing his job by revealing the truth. but he also... really doesn't want to be a wizard. so he comes clean. (lol)

jayce is a little bummed to find out it's not real, but when viktor shows him how the practical effects work, jayce becomes enchanted once more. they look so convincing!! technology that can replicate magic?? he thinks that's brilliant.

from then on viktor has a little tag-along at all of their shows, and jayce even starts calling himself viktor's apprentice. viktor's embarrassed, obviously, but also undeniably charmed. he and jayce become friends, him teaching jayce about engineering and jayce (trying to) teach him about the arcane.

they are earth shatteringly adorable the entire time 😔
