Playing Hacker's Memory made me really want to write about Yu.

Keisuke, the protagonist, was the only person to not mock him or make fun of him. He essentially became Yu's only friend for their entire school life, and Yu was the only person that trusted Keisuke when his account was stolen.

But after Keisuke joined Hudie, Yu felt like he was being left behind as Keisuke kept taking case after case, even having to leave while they talked.

That instilled a sense of envy in Yu, who only wanted to have and keep a friend to the point he became a hacker too, all in order to help Keisuke get his account back WITHOUT Hudie, to prove to Keisuke and even himself that he's not weak, that he won't be forgotten.

And, at least in my eyes, it feels like Yu also loves Keisuke, but is reluctant to admit it. He filed a case to "verify" date spots, and during that case, he says he "almost forgot" Keisuke wasn't a girl and that two boys on a date would be embarrassing. This tells me he has internal homophobia and he's aware of it. But doing this was a step to try to push past it.

And yes, Yu Nogi is a rather feminine guy, but he does voice that he doesn't like being feminine. It makes people view him as weak, when all he wants is to be seen as himself. To be respected as himself.

I'm only on Chapter 11, and Yu doesn't get the most screentime (most of it being the Hudie gang, especially Erika. I love them all too, I'm not saying "oh erika's in the way of the gay ship" or any of that nonsense), but he still feels like a very deep character that deserves to be studied. He's my second favorite throughout the whole game, only behind Chitose and that's just barely. Hell, the two could swap on any given day simply because of Chitose initially dumping shopping on Keisuke for his first "cases" as well as his needless flirtation towards women, meanwhile Yu is immediately shown to be a trusting friend, but we see what could be the start of a villain arc due to him feeling neglected.

And this doesn't go into the question of Why? What is his home like? Is he mistreated? Is he malnourished? Is he neglected? There are so many questions that can be explored, but simply aren't since Yu isn't the main character and it doesn't have a place in the narrative of the story.

Which is genuinely such a shame because Yu is such an interesting character to me. I'm realizing as I'm typing that he's a lot like Kieran from Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and that's probably a reason why.

But a reason why Yu sticks out even more to me is because... It's genuine. It doesn't start from a needless lie. It comes from Keisuke essentially doing his job. Since he's a hacker in Hudie, he has to do jobs with Hudie. But because of how involved in them Keisuke becomes, Yu becomes neglected. Especially when Keisuke gets called by Ryuji or Chitose for an urgent manner.

Yu understands this all perfectly well. But the fact that Keisuke does it alone instead of letting Yu help him makes Yu feel weak. It instills a sense of inferiority, which goes into what I said earlier about him wanting to prove himself to not just Keisuke, but to himself as well.

I genuinely love Yu so much, from his design to his personality to how his character overall is developing. It makes you think he's there just for exposition, but he starts becoming more involved in the story and it makes you wonder... Is there more than what's on the surface with Yu?

“Scrap.” Bulkhead exvented, letting the Earth something fall out of his three digit servos. He was in an old scrap yard several sectors… er, blocks away from the base. Not completely sure why—his processor kept jumping to how the Dinobots wrecked things and got trapped. By not knowing when to stop attacking something. His memory core continued to bring up the memory. Even if the Dinobots were safe, Prowl’s comparing had been positive, but.

The certified space bridge technician just couldn’t get the similarities to him breaking stuff out of his processor. Cybertron was more durable than Earth yet he still ran into places where his frame’s bulk were unsuited to there.

Here?

He never went an mega-cycle (hour) without bumping into something which led to breaking said thing. Bulkhead couldn’t help looking at his servos sometimes, wondering why he hard such abnormal digits. Picking stuff up was a chore unless he was super super careful.

The technician/Autobot dragged the flat of his servo over his face and got back to practicing.

Pick up, move it, set it down,

*Crunch.*

“Scrap it all to the AllSpark.”

“…H’lp…”

Bulkhead paused in his less than satisfactory practice thinking he heard something. He stayed incredibly still, not wanting to make any noise in case it was actually what he thought.

“Pl… elp…”

Oh, scrap.

“I’m here. Where are you???” The Autobot spoke aloud, then immediately shut his trap in order to listen.

“H’r. Ov.”

Bulkhead took a few steps in the direction ever mindful of where exactly he was stepping. A human was possibly trapped, he didn’t want to accidentally squish wherever they were!

“He… re…”

He heard them clearly this time and rushed over—only to find a giant (to a human) colored brick? It had a green eye on it which blinked.

“Please don’t destroy my eye.”

It took hours to find all the little piece of little thing. Bulkhead had to dig through pile after pile as the block creature slowly built itself back together. Once he had his head, he could point the Autobot toward pieces more readily.

“What are you exactly?” Bulkhead couldn’t help asking, though he was preoccupied through another pile. “How’d you get scrambled apart?”

The being made of block bricks huffed a small laugh at the question. “I’m a toy, sorta. Normally, I rearrange myself to my core content depending on how I want to be that day.” His voice was young yet experienced sounding all things considered. “ToyAgumon at your service, but my friends call me Brick.” He grimaced a bit which looked odd as only a head. “I got. Spooked too much when an explosion sounded off over Detroit a few nights ago. Right apart.”

Bulkhead winced at this, recalling how a fuel canister had to be thrown out of the base after the assembly line went crazy. Whoops…

“Don’t worry, I’ll help put you back together.”

Yes. Brick’s Bulk’s partner digimon. Do these two realize right after the ToyAgumon is put back together? Nope. They go back home… only to realize there’s a tangible connection.

A ToyAgumon is a pretty interesting choice for Bulkhead. He's the artist amongst the iterations and ain't really about breaking stuff the most. Meanwhile Brick is the living equivalent of Legos. Can break apart and reshape themselves all they want.
