Bucket List - jegulus microfic
dream | @into-the-jeggyverse | wc: 406
"What's on everyone's bucket lists?" Marlene asks, taking a sip from the bottle of wine they were all sharing before passing it to Mary who was sprawled on the floor next to her. "I'm going skydiving for sure."
"I aim to break at least one law in every country on God's green earth." Barty comments, matter-of-factly.
"Not exactly aiming very high, is it Crouch?" Sirius replies with a chuckle. "Bet you're banned from a couple as is." Barty fakes a smile, flashing his pointed teeth in Sirius' direction.
The group go around saying their piece, continuing to banter. After Sirius' turn, he passes the bottle to James, who shrugs and takes a swig.
"Nothing?" Remus asks. "Gotta be something you're dying to do, mate."
"Where's your ambition, man?! Your desires, wishes, dreams?" Barty waves a flask at James accusingly. Of course he brought his own, James thinks.
"I've got dreams!" He pouts.
"Like what, Prongs?" Peter asks, all eyes on the man in question.
"I want to be a dad." James replies, instantly shy. Regulus is resting his head on James' lap, and looks up to meet his gaze.
"Oh. James, you know I can't. Right?" Regulus whispers, ashamed. The dysphoria and self-hatred he would suffer if James got him pregnant would be fatal. The pair stare at each other as the room watches.
"Alright everybody, party's over!" Sirius yells and jumps to stand, motioning to Remus to collect the empty bottles sprawled across the floor and usher everyone else out of the room. Barty is slurring as Evan drags him by the shirt out of the room, muttering about "what I say?"
"Reg." James says once the last person, Pandora, leaves the room after giving them both an apologetic smile.
Regulus stares at the wall.
"Regulus, love. I know. I know."
"Then why would you say that in front of everyone?" Regulus spits, defensiveness building up inside him. "I would rather die than have to..."
"I'd never ask you to. I can't even imagine it, to be honest."
"Good. Don't." Regulus gulps, the thought horrifying him.
"I was thinking more adoption or fostering. The amount of kids who are out there scared right now, just like you and Sirius were, we could help them. You and I know better than most that blood doesn't always run thicker than water."
Regulus hums, inching closer to his boyfriend. "Mm. You'd be a really good dad, you know"
"So would you."

Tumblr media
after what felt like an eternity of twisting, turning, and damn near college level research on how to open a glass jar, what are the odds that not a single thing has worked.
“run it under some hot water” they said.
“tap the lid with a heavy object to break the seal” they said.
“slap the bottom with the palm of your hand” they said.
but despite the hundreds of google searches and youtube videos you’ve watched, the tin lid to your jar of organic raspberry jelly hasn’t budged an inch.
“ugh!” you screeched, nearly throwing the damn thing at the wall. but you would much rather go to bed hungry than have to clean up fruit preserves mixed with shards of glass from the ground, or even worse, eat a dry peanut butter sandwich without jelly.
now, was there a quick an easy solution that you have thought of, but didn’t dare to act upon? well, yes! but that would require having to interact with your fine ass, johnny bravo-esque, tank of a neighbor— mingyu. at first, that option was off the table, but soon hunger got the best of you.
so here you are, standing in front of apartment 406 in some skimpy boy shorts that expose wayyy to much ass and a sweater, holding the infamous jar of raspberry jelly.
*knock, knock, knock*
the apartment goes silent, you feel nervous as the sound of foot steps walk up to the door, pause, and a zipper opens moments before hearing the lock turn. your cheeks heat up at the sight of him in a tank top with grey sweats. trying to stop yourself from ogling at his biceps, triceps, and quadriceps on full display, and you peep how his matching grey hoodie is coincidentally hanging from the coat rack.
the smell of sweet and savory spices bless your nose, if there’s one thing about mingyu, that man could cook. sometimes he’ll hand deliver you a bowl of whatever food he’s making, under the pretense of, “i made extra,” as opposed to “i was thinking about you, so i made a larger portion just to share with you.” and you swear he’s ruined your whole perception of food, you can’t help but think about how much better everything would taste if mingyu was the one who made it instead.
“oh hey _____, is everything alright?” he asked, looking up and down your figure, taking notice of the jar of jelly in your hand.
“yup!” you say awkwardly, accidentally look down at his man-cleavage “i just wanted to know if you could open this for me please?” an innocent grin plays on your lips as you shove the jar towards him, trying to ignore the way he was staring at them.
he laughs while gripping the jar and lid, twisting them in opposite directions before hearing a-
*pop*
“there ya go,” he says, handing back the jar. you sigh of relief before thanking him and turning to walk back to into your apartment, all while feeling a pair of eyes burning into your ass.
“y’know,” he blurts out. stopping you in your tracks, turning around to listen to him. mingyu couldn’t help but trip over his words at the sight of your doe eyes looking expectantly at him. “i’m making dinner right now, n’ i was just about to bring some over to you,” the tips of his ears now turning red, “but- i mean, since you’re already here, would you mind joining me?”
“yes!- i mean no- like no as in i wouldn’t mind,” shit, you think to yourself, what the fuck am i saying?
“okay perfect” mingyu says trying to hold back his smile (you know that cute 😗 face he makes), letting you into his apartment, allowing himself a closer look at your ass.
to no surprise, his apartment layout was an exact copy of yours, only furnished to his liking, of course. a dark stained wooden coffee table accompanied by a matching tv console, upholding a flatscreen tv and ps5, and a dark blue ribbed suede couch. hm, interesting.
“almost done, just need to finish sautéing these veggies,” he says now facing the stovetop, and you take the opportunity to get a real good look at his back muscles. you’re so glad you got front row seats to see them, since the view through the peephole of your door every time he came back from the gym wasn’t cutting it.
“could you help set up the table?” mingyu turns off the stove and grabs some plates and glasses from the cabinet above, breaking you out of your trance.
“yea, of course” you squeak, hoping he hadn’t noticed the way you were drooling over him just then. you set down the jar of jelly you, for some reason, still had in your hands on to the counter, and grabbed the placemats, utensils, and glasses from the drawers mingyu directed you to. he brings over the dishes and sets them onto the table before going back to grab a bottle of wine.
“you drink?” he asked raising a brow.
“not really, but i don’t mind having a glass,”
“how old are you?” he questioned.
“twenty one, how ‘bout you?” you wary.
“twenty.” he replied. there’s a brief moment of silence between you two before he’s sporting a stupid grin, like he knows he’s doing something he’s not supposed to, waiting to see your reaction.
“so where the hell did you get that from?” you pressed, raising your voice, baffled by his audacity to ask for your credentials when he, himself, isn’t even qualified.
“a frienddd~” his tone playful as he laughs. “relax, i consider this my early birthday gift, i’ll be twenty one on the sixth of this month.”
you think it must be from one of of his older friends, specifically seungcheol or jeonghan, those dudes from your engineering class who come by often, not that you’re keeping count. you sigh, you can’t blame him. you’ve had your own fair share of alcohol during your birthday party that you celebrated the weekend before your twenty first, especially since you could not afford to get lit on the wednesday night before your exam.
“fine,” you gave a tight lipped smile as mingyu pours you both a glass, starting to loosen up as alcohol soon calms your nerves.
Tumblr media
“wanna watch that new ‘baby reindeer’ series, i heard it’s crazy as shit!” mingyu laughs, as you two are finishing dinner.
“ yeah i’ve been meaning to start! just haven’t gotten around to it,” you finish up the rest of the bottle, while mingyu takes the dishes to load them up into the dishwasher. you grab the remote turning on the television, and plop down on the couch, briefly pausing to remind yourself that this isn’t your place, but he sure does make you feel like it.
after drying off his hands mingyu plopped himself right beside you, leaving only about an inch or two in between, and smoothly snakes his arm around you, being careful not to make contact though. you laugh to yourself at how respectful he’s trying to be, and wonder if he’s truly oblivious to the not so respectful feelings you have towards him.
half way through the first episode, you can’t help but feel warm, almost hot due to his body heat. his scent isn’t helping either, he smells like fresh clean laundry and natural musk. you want to study his face now that you’re up close, but it’d be too obvious, he’d notice right? wrong, frankly, his ass is not paying attention to you, so you take initiative and scoot closer into his touch, resting your head onto his shoulder, smirking at the sudden tension of his body.
“you alright?” mingyu speaks lowly into your hair, subconsciously helping himself to your scent. turning down the volume on the tv, he tilts his head to hold your gaze, dammit, there she goes again with those eyes, he curses. swiftly glancing at your lips, and back up to your eyes, it’s like he can read your mind. cautiously, lowering his hand to your ass, he helps you onto his lap. “whatchu tryna get into?” mingyu teases.
“i dunno know you tell me, you’re the one who’s got me on their lap” you tease back giggling while biting your lip.
mingyu uses his teeth to now bite your lip between his before kissing you deeply. he couldn’t wait for the day he could he could get his lips on your pretty plump ones. not a day goes by where he doesn’t think about getting the chance to mess with his pretty ass little neighbor.
whimpering at the sensation of his sunken fangs into your lip, you quickly match his energy, grinding your dampening cunt against his growing erection. his hands now gripping your ass like a vice, increasing the relentless speed and friction between you two. hand nearly getting crushed in the process, you reach between your bodies to free his now rock hard cock from his sweats, beginning to stroke him while slowing down to a more sensual pace. he breaks the kiss, letting out a loud whine as you spread the bead of precum, focusing right on the tip, and dip the pad of your thumb right into the dimple before rubbing circles around it.
mingyu’s body shudders as he throws his head back in ecstasy, blabbering a whole bunch of nonsense, while you lick and bite the sensitive skin from his collarbone all the way to his jaw. continuing to stroke his aching cock, “ah! ouu~ shit- baaabe- baby oh! fuuuuck~ m’ boutta-” are the only coherent words he’s able to slew before you cease all movement. his head shoots up, wide eyed as he looks at you as if your head’s missing.
you give him a sweet— almost taunting, smile before reaching under his tank to reveal his sculpted torso, chest rising and falling as you scrape your nails against every nook and cranny of his flesh. you lean forward to give a few licks and and sucks to each of his nipples. mind you, the man is still staring at you in disbelief. giving a sinister laugh, he holds you by your hips and and in one swift movement, shifts his body under you, so instead of sitting on his lap, you’re now sitting on his face.
mingyu wastes no time lapping at the mere outline of your pussy, desperately sucking your arousal through the fabric of your shorts. like a rabid dog he rips through the fabric with his teeth, lips immediately latching onto your clit like a vacuum. you let out a loud cry desperately grabbing fistfuls of his hair as a poor attempt to ground yourself before he’s gripping your waist, gliding your cunt alllll over his face.
“gy-gyuuu~” you whine, your legs starting to shake as you the feel pressure building up in your core. your thighs now locked tight around his head, you’re scared you may suffocate him but you’re far to worried about reaching your own orgasm to stop. “mmmph~ shiiit pleaseee~ oh my- no gyu! piece of shit!” you scream, as mingyu removes himself from under you, a shit eating grin playing on his lips, his face covered in your juices.
you squeal as mingyu rips off any and every remnant of clothing you still had on, and throws you over his shoulder— face down ass up, giving it a quick harsh slap before heading into his bedroom. throwing you down on the bed, he immediately attaches his lips to yours as he slips his thick middle and ring fingers inside of you, curling them just enough to make you cum better than any one of your pathetic toys ever could. if he could give you mind blowing orgasms just with his fingers, just imagine what universe he’d take you to on his cock.
mingyu teases your entrance with his fat tip, gliding it along your wet folds. his cock was looong, thick, and heavy, a vein running along the left side of the shaft. it felt like steel wrapped in velvet. he begins pushing his way into you, nothing could prepare you for the stretch he gave, he felt invasive, greedy, selfish. invading any space he could find inside your small tight cunt.
“just hold on to me baby,” he growls in you ear, his breathing ragged as he bottoms out, pelvis right against your ass. the man desperately trying to help himself from releasing right then and there at the feeling of your wet pudgy walls sucking him in, as if your body was trying to create a mold of his cock to remember forever.
your legs wrap tight around his torso, nails digging into his broad shoulders as he’s rutting into you like a dog in heat. he desperately pants, holding another vice-like grip onto your hips, the combination of your pornographic moans and walls beginning to clench and spasm around him making his cock twitch inside you like a bolt of lightning.
not even science can measure the amount of pent up tension that has built up in your core, the feeling painfully delicious. the sharp thrusts of his cock soon becoming sloppy as you feel him starting to shudder once again, his mouth now on your neck, sucking harshly at the flesh. he brings his hand down to your cunt, beginning to rub messy circles onto your clit making you cry out, sending you over the edge.
the knot in your abdomen comes un done, feeling like an explosion as mingyu shoots what felt like the entirety of earth’s population into your poor pussy. your body goes numb, your vision, seemingly no different than looking out of a kaleidoscope, seeing shapes and colors you didn’t even know existed.
mingyu lays on top of you, cock still sunken deep inside as if he’s trying to fertilize each one of your millions of eggs, his heavy breathing sinking you into the mattress even deeper than you were before. looking up he sees your fucked out state, locking eyes with you before giving you the filthiest smile you’ve ever seen.
you smile back, matching his same filth, before pulling him into another heated make out session. “ready for round two?”

The way she runs herself down...life really has beaten her down so much.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But he won't let anyone trash talk her aaaaa - I bet by now he suspects she's 406 (we saw that he found out she can talk from the police dashcam) so I think he knows he's cheering her up - and it's such a neat device because he can open to her as 406 the way he is too terrified to (as too direct) to her face. He feels a certain safety in that she doesn't know he knows so she doesn't know he knows he's talking to her. The phone and anonymity/mask of 406 allows them both to express hurts and feelings and traumas and desires and sides of personality they are too damaged/cautious/terrified to do directly.

It's on MBC so sadly we will NOT get the novel scenes of his jerking off into the shower for her to listen or telling her exactly how to touch herself to orgasm, but we are getting every bit of the emotional openness component.
PS Lady, he's a kdrama hero, that's why!

PPS Loved the glorious confirmation!

Reactions to The Light's Chapter 406
Brief summary: Cale eavesdrops on the enemies' conversation. The twins follow the traces.
==========
If last chapter was the background setting setup, today was the setup for who would be participating. With Hinpa gone, his sacrifices quota was passed on to two of the newest guides. Their conversation confirmed that tonight would be the Night of Pleasure.
Cale found out that the GoC cult were planning to betray the hunters from the beginning, and that GoC themself would descend in Primordial Night, probably to stop the birth of the omnipotent god the hunters wanted.
There was also the fact that New World was becoming a real world, and Cale speculated that this had something to do with the souls of real people being brought into the game. After all, how did GoC's powers work inside the game if the game world was not slowly becoming real?
The twin wanderers were hot on the trail, and they talked about another wanderer coming tomorrow. The three strongest wanderers in the Five-Colored Blood were called the Three Emperors, and it was said that the Third Emperor would be coming to Primordial Night soon. So the twins planned to destroy the place before the Third Emperor arrive.
Lastly, there were two users, a man and a woman, who were also heading to the Primordial Night. The man was a famous streamer with the username "Crazy Attention Seeker", and he planned to uncover the secret behind the disappearance of the Roots of the Beginning every last night of the month by diving into the canyon.
Normally, as a user, he would die and respawn in another area, right? But a flag was raised. 🚩
The laughter of Crazy Attention Seeker spread in all directions along with the desert sandstorm. But it could not reach the jungle beyond the canyon, nor the holy land. Of course, it did not reach Cale either. Cale did not even know who Crazy Attention Seeker was. So what no one expected, not even Clopeh Sekka, was that a great legend would be created today. Cale did not know.
Great legend, you say... So Cale would accidentally make his debut in New World in someone else's livestream? 😂😂😂 And the viewers would witness him fighting the wanderers (he planted that flag several chapters ago) and the GoC cult (FoD and SEW's conversation also planted this flag)? 🤣🤣🤣
Dang, that would be three 🚩flags raised... 🤣🤣🤣 Oh yeah, there was also the chapter title "Night and Light." Cale would definitely be the "light" here. Given that he was already a god of light something in Aipotu, I guess Caleism would soon spread to New World. 🤣🤣🤣
Ending Remarks Cale about to debut in a livestream soon! 😂 Next chapter would be Cale searching for a record of the purification ritual. But frankly, I'm more excited for his livestream debut. 😂😂😂

the sheer immensity and rawness of paik sa-eon's emotions during this episode were staggering. the punishing intensity of his love for heejoo was almost palpable — how even after he confirmed her identity as 406; his primary focus was to ask what she needed from him. what she wanted from their marriage.
compassion and empathy are revolutionary qualities — they can transform relationships from the inside out; and that's exactly what sa-eon has and is trying to do — the ability to understand how lonely and unloved heejoo must have felt to have resorted to blackmailing him. how utterly isolated. you can see how desperate he is to know what heejoo wishes for — without a second thought he promises to give her everything. from the days that they were children, heejoo has always been his — his hope, his peace, his soft place to land in a world full of cruelty. heejoo is his — his to protect. his to take care of.
sa-eon is not a gentle or romantic man, but his gaze belongs to that of every lover attempting to hold on to his beloved: "i give you my heart and everything else you need. i give you the world at your feet for another chance at keeping you." the very fact that he takes the phone and her identity as 406 not as a betrayal, but as a conduit through which he can now get to know her better; see what she requires from him — is ironclad evidence of his love.
heejoo has been his compass; the device which directs his entire world; right from the night he soothed his own nightmares by watching the signage of her fingers. it reminds me of these lines by c.p cavafy: "i created you while i was happy, while I was sad, with so many incidents, so many details. / and, for me, the whole of you has been transformed into feeling."
the final few minutes of the episode were phenomenal writing — the tearing; frantic agony in sa-eon's eyes as he tried to get to heejoo; maintaining till the end the ruse that he didn't know her identity as 406 — because he was willing to go to any lengths; say anything at all – pretend anything at all — just so long as heejoo remained safe.

Antigone
Antigone was the third play in the Oedipus trilogy written by the great Greek playwright Sophocles (c. 496 - c. 406 BCE). Produced around 441 BCE and receiving first prize at the Dionysia festival, the tragedy was actually written long before both Oedipus the King and Oedipus at Colonus. In the play, Antigone returns to Thebes after the death of her father Oedipus. Her brothers Polynices and Eteocles have both been killed in the war between Argos and Thebes. Creon, Antigone's uncle, has assumed the leadership of Thebes and by decree refuses to grant the traitor Polynices a proper burial. Antigone chooses to disobey Creon and bury her brother herself. Having violated Creon's order, she is imprisoned and left to die, eventually hanging herself. Haemon, her fiancé and Creon's son, joins her, taking his own life. Finally persuaded by a prophet to change his mind, Creon is too late to save either his son or Antigone. His wife Eurydice commits suicide, blaming Creon for the death of her son. In the end, Creon is left alone.
Sophocles
Sophocles was born around 496/5 BCE to a wealthy family from Colonus, a deme near the heart of Athens. Unlike many of his fellow playwrights, he was active in Athenian politics, serving as a treasurer and a general in 441-440 BCE with the statesman Pericles. Later, he became a member of a select group of magistrates given the task of reorganizing finances and domestic affairs after the disastrous defeat of Athens at Syracuse (412-411 BCE). He had two sons; Iophon by his wife Nicostrate, and Ariston by his mistress Theoris, whose son Sophocles the Younger also became a minor playwright, like his uncle Iophon. Writing almost to the day he died, his final play of the Theban trilogy, Oedipus at Colonus, was presented in competition by Iophon in 401 BCE. Sophocles received eighteen victories in competition at Dionysia, more than both Aeschylus and Euripides. Although active in Athenian political circles, his plays rarely contain any references to contemporary events or issues, making the dating of his plays difficult. Unfortunately, of his over 120 plays, only seven have survived.
According to Edith Hamilton in her book The Greek Way, by the time of Sophocles, the “stream of life” (196) that had existed a few short years earlier during the time of Aeschylus was long gone. Athens was in decline. Hamilton believed Sophocles viewed life as being hard. The always conservative playwright - even in the matters of religion - still believed in his beloved city and its laws, always upholding the established order. To Hamilton, he embodied everything we know to be Greek. He was “direct, lucid, simple and reasonable” (199).

When I first saw this sequence of panes, I thought, wildly and hopefully, that’s Shigaraki Tomura. That could be Shigaraki Tomura, someone who holds the quirk All For One and who, despite everything, is kind.
It reminds to be seen if Shigaraki Tomura can be stopped. As Deku says himself in Chapter 406, he still haven't come up an answer yet.
Since his first appearances, Shigaraki Tomura is infamous for being childish, talking about fights and battles as if he was playing video games. He's matured since then and his game metaphors have lessen in quantity, but his enjoyment of video games is still significant to his character.
But Shigaraki Tomura is also the one who created the League of Villains, a haven for outcasts and misfits. Twice considers the League the only place he belongs. Toga found life easier to live while with Shigaraki and others. The League is home to it's members, because Shigaraki made it that way.
Part of that is because Shigaraki Tomura is considerate of his teammates feelings and desire. This is core to Shigaraki - even as a child, he went out of his way to befriend those left behind, to include the children no one else wanted to play with. Underneath the layers of bitterness and rage caused by society's rejection, Shigaraki is still someone who cares a lot:
Tumblr media
One thing I really like about the new chapter is that All For One kept Yoichi's severed hand.
Tumblr media
Why? Who knows. All For One isn't allowed any real human emotions by the story. But still - All For One kept a severed hand, a memento of a lost one and whatever significance is embedded in that; it's evidence of what he's done - killed his brother - and a symbol of his new purpose - to hunt down the other remnant of Yoichi.
Years later, he would do the same for Shimura Tenko, when he gives the boy the hands of the slaughtered Shimura family. And he intends for them to have the same meanings and purposes - for Shimura Tenko to remember the massacre, and for that memory to spur him onward.
That AFO repeats this gruesome gesture with Tenko, essentially reproducing the same horror he experienced onto the boy who he intends to be his heir. This recontextualizes The Hands a bit - instead of just what seemed to be a sort of unique psychological torment imposed out of revenge against Shimura Nana's descendant, it's also AFO just raising Tomura after himself. It's still a incredibly fucked up cruelty, don't get me wrong, but now it feels less because specifically Shimura, and more because AFO wanted an successor that mirrors himself, down to the same traumatic trappings.
But of course, Shigaraki Tomura still greatly resembles Yoichi.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Overall, this panel of Yoichi does closely resembles the panel of Shigaraki from Chapter 221. Just— everything from the angle of the face and the direction of their gaze, to the position of the hand.
But based on Yoichi’s expression - the eyes, the slight smile, the whole demeanor - my first thought went to Shigaraki in Chapter 148, when he was telling Toga and Twice that he believes in them.
Tumblr media
This is Shigaraki, revealing his face to Toga and Twice, when in the previous panels, it had seemed like he was insensitively ordering them around, without consideration for their feelings, telling them to work with Overhaul who had just murdered their friend Magne. But once the hand comes off - voluntarily, for the first time, facing them straightforwardly - we see a look that convey a lot of things - Shigaraki's resolve in taking down Overhaul, his trust in Twice and Toga, his sincerity in what he's saying. It's Shigaraki with probably his kindest expression in the entire manga.
It parallels the context somewhat too - in Yoichi panels, it had look at first like he was despondent, sad and weak, lamenting that he dependent and was unable to do anything against the evil that was his brother. But instead, with the face reveal, we're seeing Yoichi's own indomitable will and kindness, so much that he still sees the hopeful possibilities of All For One's power.
Both are victims of All For One, but both have always kept their strong sense of self and core sense and desire for kindness and justice.
If you ask me what AFO and OFA combined would look like, I have to say: Shigaraki Tomura.

This has been on my mind a lot lately, but I couldn't find anything about this. I saw a data that says young people regardless of gender feel more lonely especially after covid. But articles everywhere describe the phenomenon as male loneliness epidemic. Is it true that loneliness affect men more than women?
Yes, I've noticed this as well! (It's definitely frustrating!)
In short, no, women and men experience similar amounts of loneliness. (Therefore, it should simply be a "loneliness epidemic" not a "male loneliness epidemic".)
First:
A pre-covid meta-analysis [1] concluded that "across the lifespan mean levels of loneliness are similar for males and females". This is a robust finding because a meta-analysis synthesizes the results from many different studies; this one covered 39 years, 45 countries, and a wide range of other demographic factors from a total of 575 reports (751 effect sizes).
An interesting longitudinal study [2] used both indirect and direct measures of loneliness and (essentially) found no significant effect of sex. (But there were some interesting interaction effects between sex and age or sex and loneliness measure, if you want to look at the study!)
This literature review [3] states that "sex differences in loneliness are dependent on what type of loneliness is measured and how" and it's possible sex only "correlates with other factors that then impact loneliness directly". The first quote here is referring to similar sex-age/sex-measurement interactions found in [2].
During/after the COVID-19 pandemic however:
The earlier review [3] stated that "most studies found that women were lonelier or experienced higher increases in loneliness than men with both direct and indirect measures", but this may be a result of participant selection bias during the pandemic.
That being said, both a rapid review [4] and a systematic review and meta-analysis [5] found that women were either more or equally likely to report loneliness during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In addition, the Pew Research Center has collected some relevant data:
Prior to the pandemic, 10% of both men and women in the USA reported feeling lonely all or most of the time [6].
And while this doesn't measure loneliness directly, 48% of women and 32% of men in the USA reported high levels of psychological distress at least once during the pandemic [7].

Rich Votive Deposit Discovered in Sicily's Valley of the Temples
At least sixty terracotta figurines, female protomes, and busts, oil lamps, and small vases, a rich votive deposit of bronze fragments were found in the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento, on the southwest coast of Sicily.
The objects were found in House VII b, which forms part of the housing complex north of the temple of Juno. The campaign is fully funded and supported by the Sicilian Region through the Valley of the Temples Archaeological Park, directed by Roberto Sciarratta, and is led by archaeologist Maria Concetta Parello.
In an announcement published by the Sicilian Region Institutional Portal: “The findings allow us to understand the dynamics of the destruction of Agrigentum in 406 BC by the Carthaginians, when the inhabitants had to flee in exodus towards the city of Gela.”
Tumblr media
The votive deposit, which would appear to have been arranged above the destruction levels of the house, may tell the story of the time when its objects were recovered by the Akragantines after the destruction. To define with certainty the function of the interesting deposit will require further research, paying close attention to the stratigraphic connections between the deposit and the living and abandonment levels of the house.
The Valley of the Temples forms part of the ancient city of Agrigentum, situated in the province of Agrigento, Sicily. Since 1997, the Valley of the Temples (covering 3212 acres) has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Tumblr media
According to the Greek historian, Thucydides, Agrigentum was founded around 582-580 BC by Greek colonists from Gela in eastern Sicily, with further colonists from Crete and Rhodes. It was routed by the forces of Carthaginian general Himilko in 406 B.C. Agrigento’s residents fled to nearby Gela when Himilko sacked their city, but then he took Gela too. All of the Greek colonies on Sicily fell to Himilko and were made vassals of Carthage. Punic primacy would not last long, however. Timoleon of Corinth defeated Carthage in Sicily and liberated the Greek cities in 399 B.C.

Ladies, if you don't need it don't buy it. And contact your local politics to demand the end to pink taxes and pink tariffs
By Nathaniel Meyersohn, CNN Wed April 16, 2025
New York CNN — President Donald Trump is using tariffs to disrupt nearly everything about the global trade order. Except for a tariff policy that favors men over women.
For decades, the US tariff system has taxed women’s clothing more heavily than men’s. Tariffs on women’s clothing are currently about three percent higher than men’s, a policy that’s known as “pink tariffs” — similar to the “pink tax” that makes the same products for women more expensive than men’s.
That means women pay an average extra dollar per garment compared to men, costing them more than $2 billion a year, according to research by Edward Gresser, vice president and director for trade and global markets at the Progressive Policy Institute, a left-leaning think tank.
And with Trump imposing 10% tariffs on most trading partners, with even higher levies for Canada, Mexico and China, the cost for women could easily go higher.
“As he is instituting massive new tariffs, President Trump is missing a chance to tackle historically regressive and misogynistic traits” of the global free trade system, said Steve Lamar, the president of the American Apparel & Footwear Association.
Most manufactured apparel and footwear are classified by gender in the US Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS), which sets out the tariff rates for all categories of merchandise imported into the United States. Tariff rates on women’s clothing were, on average, 16.7% in 2022 — 2.9 percentage points higher than the 13.6% average tariff rate for men’s clothing, according to Gresser.
Breaking it down to individual items: Women’s suits in 2017, for example, were subject to a 15.1% tariff rate, while men’s suits were subject to a 13.3% tariff. Women’s underwear was hit with a 12.8% tariff, while men’s underwear had an 8.6% tariff.
There’s no single reason why tariffs on women’s clothing are higher than men’s, but the policy has taken shape over decades.
During the 1930s and 1940s, when America helped design the global free trading system, women’s clothing production was a smaller industry while men’s clothing was a major source of employment and an economic driver. US textile and apparel manufacturers at the time were more focused on lobbying to lower tariffs and end trade barriers on men’s clothing, trade experts say. The current tariff gap is a relic of that old trade regime.

Companies have attempted to end the gender bias in tariff rates. Steve Madden, Asics, Columbia Sportswear and other companies sued the government in 2007 to strike down the tariff policy, but the suit failed because courts ruled that the tariff gaps were not designed to be discriminatory.
There also has been little movement from the federal government to fix the policy. But this year, two Democratic lawmakers, Rep. Lizzie Fletcher of Texas and Rep. Brittany Pettersen of Colorado, introduced legislation known as the “Pink Tariffs Study Act” that would direct the Treasury Department and other agencies to examine the impact of tariffs on women and other consumer groups.
Trump’s tariffs could unintentionally narrow the gender gap by raising the floor of tariffs on men’s clothing, however, said Lori Taylor, a professor in the department of public service and administration at Texas A&M who studies trade policy.
But Trump’s tariffs will ultimately impact women more than men because women spend more money on average on clothing. In 2023, household spending on women’s apparel averaged $655, compared with $406 for men’s apparel, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
“My policy preference would have been to lower tariffs for both men’s and women’s clothing” to reduce the gap, Taylor said.
Hitting low-income families hardest
Trump’s tariffs will have an outsized impact on clothing because nearly all clothing sold in the United States is imported.
Consumers immediately will face 64% higher apparel prices from Trump’s tariffs, according to the Yale Budget Lab.
Tariff disparities aren’t just between women and men. Tariffs will hurt lower-income households and the goods they rely on more than wealthier households.
That’s because lower-income consumers spend a greater share of their income on basic clothing and necessities than higher-income consumers. Tariffs also tax cheap, mass-market goods at higher rates than luxury items.
Socks, underwear, t-shirts, sneakers and other clothing basics have higher tariff rates than luxury items because tariffs vary by fabric content, said Sheng Lu, an associate professor of fashion and apparel studies at the University of Delaware. High-end fabrics such as wool, cashmere and silk have lower tariff rates than the cotton, polyester and nylon used to manufacture inexpensive clothing and sneakers.
Prices for clothing basics will also rise more quickly than luxury items because of Trump’s tariffs, trade experts say, because basics typically have little markup. That leaves companies with less room to absorb higher costs.
“The cost increase will be higher at the low end than at the luxury end,” Edward Gresser said. “Hourly-wage America will be carrying a lot of the tariff burden.”

BLM KILLS CLOUD’S GRANDSON ECHO!
Ginger Kathrens & The Cloud Foundation received shocking news yesterday, April 29th, 2025: the Billings BLM Field Office shot and killed Echo, Cloud’s lookalike grandson and the son of Bolder.
WHY:
BLM’s reasoning for this tragic action was that Echo appeared to be “in rough shape and lethargic”—and he didn’t run away when approached. But Ginger, who has documented the Pryor Mountain wild horses for over 30 years, knows poor body condition and conserving energy is normal for wild horses in early spring.
Yet, under a 2021 BLM policy directive—PIM 2021-007 Euthanasia of Wild Horses and Burros Related to Acts of Mercy, Health or Safety— BLM granted itself the authority to kill wild horses deemed unfit and is now using it unilaterally. In the past, decisions regarding euthanasia in the Pryor herd have been made in consultations between BLM, The Cloud Foundation, and the Pryor Mountain Mustang Center. Not this time. Killing Echo was done without any input from these public groups, without any understanding of how wild horses survive from year to year. Nor was it done with the input of a knowledgeable vet—one experienced in wild equine health and behavior.
With approval from the Billings office, a range specialist new to wild horse management made the call.
His bullet ended Echo’s life.
Killing Echo, the grandson of Cloud—the most famous wild horse in the world—is a desecration of the American West and the 1971 Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act (WFRHBA/The Act).
WHAT CAN YOU DO?
We are calling on you—on all who care about our wild horses—to act.
Call these people—
Billings BLM Office: 406-896-5013, 406-896-5000, 406-896-5223
The White House: 202-456-7041, 202-456-1111
Call Your Local Senator + Representative
USA.gov/electedofficials
When you call, give your name and town. Speak respectfully. Tell them:
Killing America’s wild horses is a betrayal of our heritage and that PIM 2021-007 should NOT be used as a TOOL to secretly wild kill horses to lower herd numbers.
With fierce determination,
Ginger & The Cloud Team
