MCU Timeline: Thor

This timeline is based on the actual data from the movie and other directly connected movies (The Avengers and Thor: The Dark World) and not on Fury's Big Week (see the reason here).

965 AD - The last great war in the Nine Realms. Frost Giants from Jotunheim attack Midgard. Odin's army battles them in Tonsberg, Norway. He loses an eye, but defeats them and takes The Casket of Ancient Winters and Loki, son of Laufey, king of Jotunheim.

~11th century AD - the last time Lady Sif and The Warriors Three visited Midgard.

The main events of the movie take place in November 2011 (see explanation at the end of this post):

Shortly before November 20th - Loki anonymously shows Jotuns a secret passage to Asgard.

~November 20th:

Day-Evening - Thor's coronation ceremony is interrupted by the Jotuns breaking into Odin's Vault. The Destroyer kills them. Thor, Loki, Lady Sif and The Warriors Three go to Jotunheim. Thor starts a fight with Jotuns. Odin takes everyone back to Asgard and banishes Thor, stripping him of his powers.

Night - exiled Thor ends up in Midgard (Puente Antiguo, New Mexico, somewhere near Santa Fe) where Jane Foster, Erik Selvig, and Darcy Lewis accidentally hit him with a car. On top of this, Darcy uses a taser on him and he wakes up in the hospital (though not for long).

In Asgard, Loki learns that he is a Jotun and the son of Laufey. Odin falls into Odinsleep.

~November 21st:

Loki "temporarily" takes the throne of Asgard as the only remaining successor.

Early morning - events of "A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To Thor's Hammer" one-shot. Somewhere near Flagstaff, AZ.

Note: locations were determined by the distances on the sign from the one-shot.

Morning - locals find Mjolnir near Thor's landing site. Thor runs out of the hospital. Jane hits him with her car again.

Around noon - Coulson finds Mjolnir. S.H.I.E.L.D. builds a "fortress" around the hammer. The scientists give Thor clothes and food. S.H.I.E.L.D. takes Foster's, Selvig's and Lewis' equipment and all their data.

Note the warm clothes that all the characters wear (except for the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, but they always wear suits even if it's freezing outside), the bare trees everywhere, the brown grass and bushes, and the tangerines (their season is late fall - early spring).

Evening - Thor and Jane head to Mjolnir's location.

Night - Thor storms the "fortress" around Mjolnir, but is unable to lift the hammer. S.H.I.E.L.D. places him under arrest, and Coulson attempts to interrogate him. Loki visits him and informs that Odin is dead and Frigga does not want Thor to return. Selvig takes Jane back to their base, but then returns to rescue Thor with a fake driver's license.

Why it's late November: Look at the "DOB," "Issued," and "Expires" dates. They all say November 21st. That's a little weird. We also know that this DL is fake and that it was somehow made by Selvig, Jane, and Darcy on the same night. There will be another fake ID in Iron Man 2 with a date tied to the actual date of the events. Based on these little clues and other things that scream "late November", I would take a chance and guess that this day in Thor is November 21st.

Selvig and Thor talk and drink at a bar. Selvig asks Thor to leave town, but gets drunk and Thor carries him to Jane's van. Jane and Thor spend a PG-13 night together.

Loki goes to Laufey with an offer to let him kill Odin and take the Casket.

~November 22:

Despite Selvig's request, Thor stays.

Lady Sif and the Warriors Three arrive in Midgard.

The battle with the Destroyer. Thor sacrifices himself and dies. Odin sees this, and Mjolnir flies to Thor, now worthy, and brings him back to life.

Notice the store with Christmas decorations in the background.

Loki brings Jotuns to Asgard and then kills Laufey. Thor gets there and fights Loki, who is trying to destroy Jotunheim. Thor destroys the Bifrost to save Frost Giants. Loki falls into the remains of the Einstein-Rosen Bridge.

Early 2012 - Dr. Selvig is invited to work on Project Pegasus (S.H.I.E.L.D.-NASA study of the Tesseract).

Fury's Big Week note: as we can see, the movie tells us in every way that the events take place at the end of the year, and not in late May - early June.

Why 2011:

In The Avengers, Fury mentions that the events of Thor happened "last year." He says that on May 4th, 2012, so "last year" is 2011.

All the clues in the NASA location scene in The Avengers tell us that Dr. Selvig and Clint were there for no more than a few months: Selvig did not have enough time to complete his calculations, did not reach the testing phase, and had not enough time to get closer to Barton. This means he started working on the Tesseract in 2012, not earlier.

Before this, a month or two (not too much, not too little) had passed since the main events of Thor, as evidenced by the way Fury and Selvig talk about it in Thor's mid-credits scene.

It's hard to imagine Loki or Thanos going more than a year without action.

In Thor: The Dark World, Darcy says that Thor was last "gone for two years," that is, if we count from the fall of 2013 (events of Thor: The Dark World, where Thor reunites with Jane), we get the fall of 2011, the exact period we've established here.

MCU Timeline: The Infinity Saga

New AU time! For now I'm gunna call it "Sands of Destiny"

In this AU a few different things happen. Diana eventually managed to get into contact with James, probably via the marriage. During James's visit to the Lilith Kingdom, Diana discusses a way to put an end to the Demon Lord as his spiraling has gotten so bad that they aren't certain that marriage and James taking the throne will make things better.

The problem with this plan however is that it does require James to "die" aka, his soul can be put into another body but general control of that body will always remain with the original user of the body. James agrees to this plan and the two kinda scheme how they're going to kill the Demon Lord.

So long story short, James leads the DL to the planned location, both of them get killed, the Eastern Kingdom at large is told that Princess Ezaeur killed them both.

Generally, it's a net positive. Lilith kingdom remains safe, Diana is free to marry whoever she wants, the Eastern kingdom is ruled by a MUCH more competent leader and with Erik as the new ruler, his teachings taught him that war would never end well so there is no attack from the Eastern Kingdom.

Meanwhile witch Mika finds this baby in her lawn with striking golden eyes.

The boys are devastated over the loss of their eldest brother. Each represent a different stage of grief.

Erik is denial. Or more accurately, the denial of emotions that masks as acceptance if you don't let yourself grieve.

Sam is anger; he wants revenge. Revenge for the brother he felt like died too soon.

Matthew is depression. There was so much he wanted to say to his brother but now he'll never get the chance and it's eating him up inside.

Damien is bargaining. He'd do anything to turn back the clock and get James back. Even if it meant giving up the new jump in status he got as a result of the Demon Lord's death.

And technically, James himself is acceptance. He accepted his death long ago and came to terms with it. For a few days there, he even let himself slack off knowing it wouldn't matter.

Well, impatience plus Tumblr's meltdown prompted me to start posting new stuff - whether I can do the art for it or not! I think I can. I'll come back with it. But I'm gonna tell you right now, Erik looks wrong in makeup with David's expression. As well he should, I suppose. David's cute and all, but he's still a hazard and he needs to get lost.

Man, that guy's a hazard to me too. When I write a lot of David-centric stuff, I wind up with his voice in my head, prodding me to be more fabulous. Not the worst thing in the world, but he has no sense of decorum, or self-preservation.

In the most convoluted way possible, I've finally written one of his three backstories, but you'll hafta wait for me to write music for it and put it up on AO3. (That really got out of hand. Heh.) None of the three are true, as suits him, but they contain elements of truth. He's lying to the NDA, too, but this time he's trying to do the right thing, instead of just fucking with them.

This is what it looks like when a bunch of people trying to do the right thing collide!

*Art Edit: There they are! The Twit himself, and the Twit driving Erik around and trying to look less conspicuous. It's... not very effective, David, but that doesn't really matter now.

You can see John did his best to put together David's preferred outfit, but it was easier to get saddle shoes than spats, and it's hard to get a custom coat made in a particular fabric when you're doing terrorism. Erik's gonna be stuck wearing most of this shit until they can get him to a store. He's gonna hate it so much, but he will make some alterations.

I can't get over how creepy and wrong Erik looks this way. He should, but, yuck. Ugh. David, that's not yours! Not matter how much you want it to be!

Glaze is still coughing up artifacts, and worse this time. I'm willing to put up with it, I guess, but I don't like how it looks. I'm going to have to put the HQ art in the store. And, eventually, in ebooks for DL. I've been meaning to make nice ebooks FOREVER, but that's the dream!

He's been with his wife for yearsssss. He saw how bad Gabe's wife got treated when he came out with their relationship and kept her on the DL for a long ass time. I don't think there are even any photos of their wedding online (if they even had one).

There used to be rumors of him cheating, but there was no proof and a couple of the alleged instances were proven false. He's a really nice guy though. (So is Gabe. Both give major himbo vibes)

Pavel - Timeline/Schedule

Hey everyone! Just wanted to drop in and share our schedule and some notes from our meeting yesterday.

Let me know what you guys think and if you feel this works well. Here's a few ideas I have for us to begin with this week during PreProd and going into production. Pavel Thinking I could draw a few pieces of concept art for us to start with, since I'm here to study "MA Concept Art" after all haha. Here's the lineup I've got in mind: - A spaceship interior concept to give Alec a helping hand. - An environment concept showcasing the sci-fi farmland for Neel's vision. - And last but not least, an atmospheric city/skyline concept for Erik to dive into. Erik - Thinking you could gather any free assets to do with sky/atmosphere that may be useful from unreal marketplace as a starting point (if you think it's necessary). - Next up, think it would be wise to explore different methods for creating our dreamy clouds – whether it's through VDB clouds, volumetrics, or using imageplanes with cloud textures. I'm sure there are some handy tutorials on YouTube that could guide us through these techniques. This might be useful to look at as well: 30 Day Free Trial - Award winning weather renderer | Simul trueSKY - Now, here's a puzzle for us: I'm wondering if you could investigate the possibility of having our cloud and sky layer gracefully deform into a circle, mimicking the city's shape. It sounds a bit tricky, but I'm hoping a bit of research will shed some light on the best approach.

- And on a slightly lower priority note, wouldn't it be cool if we could smoothly fly through the clouds without them awkwardly clipping through the interior of our vehicle? If there's a way to tackle that, it would be an awesome bonus. Alec - I'll hustle to get the concept for the interior ready asap, so you can jump right into crafting it. In the mean time, thinking you could explore some interior references for our vehicle to find what vibes with you? Or maybe take a shot at polishing your Modeling skills or give Substance Painter a spin for some creative experimentation for now. Neel - Thinking a good way to kick things off would be by checking out what assets we can find for free on the unreal marketplace that could be useful. If we find any gems, perhaps that would make things easier for us. - Some assets that might be useful could be some small sci-fi buildings in the distance, could have some barns in there too. See what you can think of?

- I was thinking it would be awesome if you could shape the narrative of our animation. Think a good way to do this would be creating a storyboard with a variety of shots that have great flow/pacing? For instance, we could decide on the ideal duration for the launch sequence and then figure out when the spaceship should start emerging from the clouds to reveal a city in the background. From there, we can determine the right timing for a massive building to appear, towering above the clouds and so on. - If you have any cool ideas for key-shots or memorable moments, feel free to include them in the storyboard!

- Once we have the narrative locked in, we can start exploring the sound and AI-voice elements.

- After, think you could dive into Premiere to see what's possible with your post-production magic. Are there any exciting effects you think we could incorporate, maybe during the spaceship's journey into the light or wormhole at the end? I'm open to your thoughts on any cool enhancements that could elevate the animation. Looking forward to working on this together!

I’m thinking of making another post to show off classes from KoG that haven’t been added to Dragalia Lost so far to see the potential add on’s DL can include in the future. Especially the dragon units.

Silly-ish Headcanon

Right after the Demon War. And I mean RIGHT after. Mere hours after the DL has been slain, the boys all find each other, go to a random nearby bench and sleep on it for the rest of the day. But they are all in increasingly weird positions the younger you get.

James is actually sitting normally but sleeping upright and that's weird in of itself.

Erik is sitting on the bench but slumped over the handle.

Sam is sitting on the floor and using the base of the bench as a headrest.

Matthew is draped over the back of the bench like a sack of potatoes.

Damien didn't even make it to the bench. He is sleeping on the floor next to the bench. He tried tho.

They are just too tired and no one has it in them to disturb their sleep/brotherly bonding.

So I really really love the Summer Siren event so far, but the more I think about it the saltier I get about the abscence of Thaniel, even as a side character like Verica.

The characters are good and I love Celli and Julietta’s alts - they’re brilliant, BUT...

Siren befuddles sailors with her singing and Erasmus guides them to safety. Thaniel, a navyman and veteran sailor, MUST have heard or even come across the two of them before. Karina too, and maybe even Erik during the time he was lost at sea.

It would’ve been great to see our ocean man complaining about all the seaside activities and lending a hand trying to find Erasmus. (Think of the drama if he came across Siren with apprehension because she, accidentally, aided in the sinking of one of their ships. Thaniel’s time in the navy was Not Fun, this event right here is one possible reason why).

I love the event as it is but. The missed potential. Thaniel Rights.
