Yo the story in tears of the kingdom isn't bad because is not deep or some shit. It's bad because it actively contradicts shit that happens in breath of the wild, when it's supposed to be a direct sequel.

The divine beasts and the shrines suddenly disappearing and having people acting like they never existed, NPCs forgetting about Link, "demon king? Secret stones?"(X4), and the confirmation that the zonai ruines and other supposed clues about a bigger lore meant fuck all (retroactively making BoTw worse) are in no way shape or form comparable to 4 swords adventures having a mid story

This might be a bit random but would you say you have any thoughts on Neurodivergent readings of Zhongli (more specifically autistic)? I was thinking about it in the latest chapter of JG amd even before then too. as an autistic person myself i feel he reads very heavily as such, especially when talking about his human mask and feeling like he doesn't need to force it as much with childe, and his issues with human expression in smiling etc. but I think it's then an interesting debate between that and the fact that, well, he's just not human. that all comes from a place of being an entirely different species, unevolved and unrelated to human brains and how they think and read social patterns, and I feel we don't really have any way of telling if ZL has any divergent tendencies among dragons right? and even then he's half, too, so that affects things.

anyway sorry for the ramble I was mainly wondering if you had any opinions on the matter, or if you intended the parallels I definitely see while reading your Zhongli! love your work as always <3333

i think i might've commented on this at some point but never directly, so here – i do have thoughts on the matter!

as you mentioned, it's difficult to tell with characters that aren't human, because you can't call something 'neurodivergent' if the bases for their neurotypical-ity are not the ones by which we measure this stuff. so, to me, ALL non-human characters are neurodivergent-coded. they may not be neurodivergent, technically speaking (like how you mentioned, maybe all dragons are just like zl), but to us, they read as such. so, coded. ultimately i do think there is merit in labeling them as neurodivergent because, even if they, again, technically aren't; we are going to run into problems if we attempt to treat them as neurotypical, so we might as well say yeah, neurodivergent. it is also kinda correct anyway – they do diverge from us. that's a fact. it's like saying dogs are colorblind. if all dogs see in the same range, then you can't say your dog in specific is colorblind (unless it actually is but that's beside the point); but compared to us, from our perspective, for what it matters to us and how that will translate into how we treat them then yes! dogs are colorblind! i think i mentioned it once in conjunction with characters like alhaitham. to me, zhongli is neurodivergent-coded, while alhaitham is neurodivergent straight-up. because (as far as we know) he's human, so his brain should, in theory, be like ours.

as for which flavor of neurodivergency zl is coded to have in specific i would agree with you on autism! but then again, i'm not an expert on these things, i don't know the exact ins and outs and the specific characteristics that constitute an autistic character – i just write them the way i perceive them, with the quirks i perceive them to have. not to get preachy but i think that's the better way to write characters in general, since that's how real people work, after all. people with autism aren't born fitting some parameters that will make them autistic – they're born with specific quirks that we then interpret as autism, and even then you don't necessarily get two people having the exact same experience with this. most of these terms are umbrella terms regardless as to how well-defined or how big or small the umbrella is.

genuinely, it's so funny to me when jon.elias shippers hate j.mart for the specifically stated reason that "martin isnt good for jon". Yes, the guy with realistic flaws and traits that occasionally create conflicts with Jons own flaws and traits is bad for him, so jmart is toxic. Jon deserves someone who treats him right.

In fact, you know who's good for Jon? The person who effectively used him as a puppet, made a plan centered on scarring him for life 13 times and executed it without remorse, then used his body to end the world, an experience so horrifying that Jon would rather literally kill everyone on earth than risk someone else feeling it too. so datv retconned a lot of lore which is. a whole separate issue. but there are two things in the lore that's been established in this game that don't make a lot of sense to me

obviously big spoilers below

firstly, the archdemons are apparently the 'weapons' of the evanuris, rather than the evanuris themselves. they were high dragons that the evanuris bound their life force to, essentially making them immortal. a big part of the plot is that we have to kill the gods' archdemons to make them mortal, and then kill them.

all the other evanuris are dead. but if the archdemons were their weapons/anchor of immortality, why/how are they dead? according to what this game is telling us, when the archdemons were killed to end the blights, that would have made the god it was bound to mortal, but it wouldn't have actually killed them. these gods were still extremely powerful and capable of living for a long time even without their archdemons, so i don't think it was the passage of time. that doesn't make sense either when we look at solas, who like them was 'sleeping', and who was never bound to a dragon to keep him alive.

secondly, apparently the full horror of the blight is contained within the veil. when the magisters pierced the veil, they released part of it into the world, which became the blight. ghilan'nain and elgar'nan want to pierce/destroy the veil to flood the world with the blight.

solas wants to stop them flooding the world with the blight. but he's also planning on destroying the veil to make the world what it used to be. but if the veil is all thats containing the blight, how was his plan any different to what ghilan'nain and elgar'nan are doing? he says he was planning to move them to a different prison, but he says nothing about how he was going to deal with the blight. and even though at a certain stage in the game, where rook knows about the veil being the only thing holding the blight back, we can ask him how his plan is different, it's all in the context of how he's going to unleash demons on the world. nothing about the blight.

like sure we could say its because he's a hypocrite but its a fundamental part of the plot that does not make sense to me

just read the new mutants issue where Charles chose to stay behind in space and my god the juxtaposition between Charles trusting Erik and Erik joining the hellfire club and wondering at his own trust worthiness. I wonder how much of Charles decision was him ultimately trying to avoid the fact that his first class had seemingly betrayed mutant kind and not be willing to face them and how much of it was Dani and Illyana's reaction to him having Karma mind control Illyana. the fact that Illyana was depending on him to ease her mind through limbo and in choosing to stay he forced karma to do it instead, probably fucking up their relationship in the process.

Wrt LRB sometimes I'm so baffled by what people bother to ask me because my charitable assumption will be an image in my mind of the results of a search query using keywords in that question and what failures may have occurred in the transfer of information and I'll start talking like "What did you search for this? When I used [keywords] the results seemed pretty self-explanatory." Or like idk. Baseline I'll assume they've read some Bullshit that comes up when u search something. There are multiple things in this world if you use the most self-evident english search queries for you will just get misinformation. So maybe then I'll start talking as to counter those points instead and they're sooo lost and I'm like ??? and they're like I didn't bother to look it up I didn't search for any texts on this subject. Saw someone with the idea of Metal having Miku's "oh nonononono" on his soundboard and it gave me a cute headcanon I'd like to share:

What if the Wachowskis were to give Metal a Vocaloid/Synthv voicebank as a gift so he can communicate with it? I think it'd be so cute! (Ik TTS and/or sign language are much more viable options but I find the idea of him having a little Miku or Teto voice to be super cute)

Hmmm.... That IS an interesting idea, and I may actually make it into a comic- although it'd be more about consent and self identity.

I always found people giving Metal a voice box... A little cheap? I don't really know how to put it into words well, but I find it way more appealing when Metal, (in canon at least) having their voice from Neo times taken away, and finding alternative ways to be heard. To have some control back.

In the movie universe, in my mind Metal never gets a voice to begin with (but that's just my wishful thinking,) and naturally adapts to communicate anyway.

It's why I make Metal in the Strays au use ASL- it's one of the options available to her, and the one she actively chooses to use. She wants to be heard, on her own terms, wrangling some sense of control back.

Kang Sae byeok x Ji yeong 36 questions au

the lyrics from the musical are going to be highlighted in blue, just so people who never listened to it can know they're lyrics and not spoken.

major changes in the story:

-Ji yeong has won the games;

-Sae byeok was never recruited to play;

-Both of Ji yeong's parents were abusive, to her and to eachother. Her father still stabs her mother, in response Ji yeong kills him, but here her mother survives;

-I've yet to decide what's going on with Sae byeok and her family because idk how to insert the whole thing with her mom being in north korea and all into the plot.

Ji yeong, recruited into her worst nightmare straight from jail after stabbing her own father. She had drenched her hands with the blood of many in those sick games, thrived over her adversaries, and won.

The girl now owned more money than any human could count, sure. But in the process she has lost one of the last things she truly had even after serving her time and jail, her humanity. The belief that she deserved to have a good life after taking so many others was absurd for her. She held so much guilt over her past that it made her ashamed even of her own name, her identity was forever tainted with the blood of those she had sacrificed.

Until she met Sae byeok, Ji yeong hadn't realized how lonely she was, or maybe she did, but had gotten used to it. How alone does one have to be to not have anyone ask for her name? She had used her dirty money to buy a house of her own, so her name was given to a company at some point, but no real person had asked her just what her name was. Nobody had yearned to know just a little more about who she was, and that soothed Ji yeong, not having to use this accursed name. The same name that made her wince when screamed across the house by any of her parents, the name of the winning player, the name of the person she hated the most.

The first name that popped into Ji yeong's head. No special meaning for her, nothing. Its only meaning was the only thing she wanted at the moment, which could be held by any other name, the fact that it was not her own.

What she didn't realize was that this moment was going to dictate the next two years of her life, two years dedicated to, and beside Sae byeok, from "random pretty girl on the park", to "my first friend", to "my girlfriend", to "my wife".

Ji-yeong was only "Jae-eun" for about three months before becoming "Kang Jae-eun", but their life together fell apart as quickly as it came to be, with just a knock on the door that Sae byeok happened to answer, and some confusing questions coming from the cops about a missing woman named "Ji-yeong".

During their very first date, they had decided to test out a well known "experiment", The Experimental Generation of Interpersonal Closeness, aka the 36 questions, a set of questions developed to see if two strangers can develop an intimate connection just from asking each other a series of increasingly personal questions. Ji yeong, now having found herself in quite the situation, used the back and forth questions to "build" Jae-eun, her hopes and dreams, quite similar to her own. But with some major lies here and there to avoid talking about her past at all costs, Sae byeok's presence was magical, it was as if all of her worries were washed away every time she heard the girl's soothing voice answering one of the questions, from the way she pondered her answers carefully even in the first couple of sillier questions, to how she calmly explained her answers to the deeper, more personal ones. Too late to backpedal, too good not to keep going.

As soon as she heard her old name being said by the cops, a cold shiver ran down her body, it reminded her of the dread of hearing one of her parents angrily calling her when she was a child, but far worse, even worse than the panic of going trough those accursed death games all those years ago.

Ji yeong's still alive mother had filed a missing persons report under her government name, the police managed to track her down after the first two happy years of her life, she should've known no happiness lasts long for people like her.

-I just, I need to go Jae-eun, I can't do this right now.

-You can't do this? You can't let me explain myself?

-You lied to my face for two whole years, I don't even know your name–I'll just- I have to go.

Sae byeok took her car keys and left, no goodbyes, nothing. She drove far away to a place she thought Jae-eun Ji yeong wouldn't be able to find her.

Ji yeong is currently drenched from the thundering rain outside, begging an unresponsive Sae byeok to let her into the house. She offhandedly mentions being soaked amidst her pleas for the woman inside to hear her out and talk. Suddenly she hears the sound of keys being ruffled around, followed by the soft click of the door opening, she's faced with one of Sae byeok's unreadable expressions, paired with awfully neutral speech given the situation.

-I'm only letting you in so you don't catch a cold.

She quickly turns her back to Ji yeong and turns her attention to a task she was doing beforehand.

i absolutely love this plot bc there's something so fun and intimate abt having the worst aspects of yourself known by only one person + then that same person has the nerve to still stick around, has the nerve to be the only person who has stuck around & in essence, that's what you and kaiser are to each other.
