How is Daughter of Smoke and Bone not more popular???? like genuinely HOW. Blue-haired art student living in Prague who runs errands for a wish-granting demon father who trades in TEETH. ancient wars. star-crossed lovers. secret magic. flying monsters. entire scenes that feel like dreams.

The worldbuilding?? Insane. It’s layered and rich and somehow feels both ancient and brand new. And the descriptions?? So vivid you can taste the air in Prague, smell the scorched earth of battlefields, feel the ache of magic in your bones.

It’s whimsical. It’s tragic. It’s haunting in the way old fairy tales are. And the writing?? Some of the most beautiful, lyrical prose I've ever read in YA fantasy. And yet?? No one talks about it.

I need people quoting “once upon a time, an angel and a devil fell in love” like their lives depended on it. but it’s like everyone collectively forgot one of the most original and magical stories ever written.

I'm sorry but this book deserves a fandom revival IMMEDIATELY.

This book has been on my tbr for absolute ages and I finally, finally got round to reading it! And I figured Karou deserved a painting, poor girl just going through the most throughout this series 😱

Also leather jackets… sooooo fun to paint! Think I should give all the characters leather jackets from now on🤔

Heart of glass by blondie is so karou and Akiva coded to me, specifically them in the second book

I mean cmon "once I had a love, and it was a gas" and akiva saying "love is an element"

"Once I had a love, and it was divine. Soon found out, I was losing my mind. Seemed like the real thing, but I was so blind" karou falls in love with akiva, and she thinks their love is perfect, but after he betrays her she regrets everything, she tells him she never trusted him, wishes she'd killed him at bullfinch, etc

Im actually quite happy with these designs i did of Brimstone, Ziri and Thiago.

I did EXTENSIVE research into judaism (where most of their names are derived from) and into the lore and culture of Chimera and made an armour that hold the essence of that. In most of the Chimera wear that i designed, it always holds a symbolism of the two moons they worship as their goddesses. So there is always circle motifs.

I paid REALLY close attention to the physical descriptions of the characters throughout the books and this is as accurate as i can imagine them.

oh i don’t know i just need to kiss laini taylor on the mouth because there’s something so magical and warm about daughter of smoke and bone. i could read thousands and thousands of pages of karou just living her life in prague with her friends and akiva, chapters of long conversations held in poison kitchen, cold days in tea shops, wintery nights in karou’s apartment…………..so warm and hopeful
