I mean, I wish them well in finding actors who wants to stick around to "cement the Sugdens back in the village" and even be Aaron's "happy ever after". But the track record of this show holding on to new characters or actors from 2014 to now isn't great, is it?

I'm repeating myself a little from a previous post here but...

How many of the new additions from the last 10ish years are likely to want to be "lifers"? (Like I consider Cain, Chas, Charity, Belle, Paddy, Rhona, Laurel, Marlon, Sam Bob, Eric and maybe Victoria and Aaron to be.)

Lydia? Probably. Liam, Charles and Manpreet? Maybe. Caleb and Ruby? I have no idea. Matty? Perhaps.

But Will? Wendy? Vinny? Suzy? Mary? Ella? Ryan? Gail? Bear? Claudette? Rose? Even Billy, Dawn and Mackenzie? Will they stick around? Do people want them to? Do the producers see longterm futures for them?

They lost or got rid of all the new Bartons; James, Finn, Emma, Ross and Pete. Robert, Chrissie, Lachlan and the whole White family, Gerry, Carly, Jessie, Ellis, Al, Nicky, Suni, Ethan, Liv, Leanna, Chloe, Joe, Graham, Jamie, Andrea, Faith, Luke, Ben, Marcus, Naomi, Nate is going soon, definitely Tom as well, the list goes on...

They also killed off Rishi, who actually had great potential to be a "lifer". Other older and/or longterm characters were lost too during these 10ish years, like Debbie (and Jack jr), Andy, Holly, Donna, Adam, Alicia, Harriet, Ashley, Priya, Bernice, Diane, Doug, David etc.

Will John Sugden become a longterm character that will still be here in 10 or even 5 years? I'm not exactly holding my breath.

I miss him. I miss him. I miss him.

Look at my beautiful friend. He's supposed to still be here. Every other time I went a couple of years without seeing him, I got to see him again and catch up. I can't do that anymore so I am just trying to show other people: look at my friend. Look at how beautiful and gifted he was.

Foster had never told anyone what his father said about him, preferring instead to pretend nothing the man did could ever touch him. In the scheme of things, it was far from Doug Foster's greatest crime, but it was the one that stuck with Matty more than anything else. Because unlike everything else his father had ever done, Foster had nothing to argue against that fact. His sister, his mother — they were dead because of him. He'd done that without even trying, and he'd hurt so many people since. Safiye, Joselia, so many others whose names he hadn't even cared enough to remember...

But Phoebe didn't know that. He'd hidden that darkness from her — putting his best foot forward, being the kind of man he thought she needed. He liked who he was with her too, but it felt too close to a lie. That night at the market — that was who he truly was, and he'd hurt her just the same as he hurt everyone else.

There was something about the conviction in her voice that finally broke him. Like the guilt that he'd fooled her and the desperate hope that he hadn't both built up inside him, and there wasn't room for anything else. No room for his choked-back tears. No room to try and fight them. Nothing to hide behind — no charm, or anger, or humor. He was just a sad, scared boy, starving for affection, and here was his favorite person, offering it willingly.

Anything he might've said was cut off by a sob, and he all but collapsed into her arms, clinging to her desperately.

As the silence stretched out amongst them, Phoebe tried her best to focus on the thrumming of her heartbeat, in contrast with the ocassional ring of the emergency alarm. Thump-thump, thump-thump, ding. Thump-thump, thump-thump, ding. She tried to keep her thoughts anchored, to count each beat, to not spiral on what Foster would say to her if he chose to say anything at all.

She could live wih him hating her. To tell her to shove her apology, that the way she acted was unforgivable and she should feel ashamed for it for the rest of her life. It would take a while for the pain to numb, to no longer feel the gaping wound in her chest she ripped out herself in her desperate attempt at self-preservation. But she could live with him hating her, because it was deserved. She'd never hate him, and would still be here if he ever thought she worked hard enough to deserve forgiveness.

But then the words that fell from his lips shocked her. "No." The protest tumbled out quickly, because it wasn't Foster's fault. Her behaviour was completely her own, maybe aided by how she was raised, but that wasn't an excuse. She tried to argue more, stopping when he brought up his dad. Used to, what? Phoebe didn't know much about the man, her stomach churning in eerie discomfort. Whatever he used to do, he was fucking lucky he was dead.

Blinking away the dark thought with the tears, it was only more proof that who she was had nothing to do with Foster, it was just part of her. She shifted, daring to look at him for the first time since his panic attack. "You're not a curse." She affirmed, determination in her eyes as if daring him to challenge her. How could he say that about himself? The man who, the first time she ever met her, he made her feel instantly better about putting her foot in her mouth around him. Who never made her feel stupid or lame about her interests. Who showed up to her apartment because she had developed a fear of rabbits, who made her feel safe and complete and...well, like a curse had lifted, if anything.

She moved, never once letting go of his hand, shuffling until she was once again facing him, reaching over to once again stroke his hair. "You didn't drag me into anything, Foster. And you have nothing to apologize for. I...what happened had nothing to do with you, I promise." She bit her lip in consideration of what to say, or rather, how to say it, because he deserved an explanation. "I was just a bit spooked because of my mom. And I...I lost an entire day. I still don't know how, but it wasn't you. I like you, I like me when I'm with you. You're like, the person I feel closest too in the whole world. You were never dragging me into anything, I was always going willingly." The tears were flowing now, all for him. For what he grew up believing, for how she had inadvertently encouraged such a toxic thought process, how she didn't know how to fix it,no matter how much she wanted to.

Anyway here is, in no particular order, how I think House of Cards (UK) characters would react if they met their US versions

Francis Urquhart and Frank Underwood

CANNNN YOU FEEEEEL THE HATEEEE TONIGHTTTTT

Okay no seriously they would hate each other at first sight

Francis is the epitome of a snobby elitist and Frank is a “no background and no bottom” type of politician. They’d hate each other

Though given that, publicly they’d try to get along while then plotting how the fuck to kill each other

Elizabeth Urquhart and Claire Underwood

They’d get along way better than their husbands

Claire would probably be quite envious of how Elizabeth’s own ambitions are met while hers are unfulfilled

At the same time I think Claire would be anxious of her since she shares her name with her mother

Elizabeth on the other hand would probably tell Claire to cherish her marriage, that she shouldn’t doubt her husband and they’re the most important things each of them had

Tim and Doug Stamper

“Are we distant relatives?”

They’d get along and probably bond over interests. Tim would tell Doug about vintage cars and Doug would talk about Dickens novels. They’d feel kinship

When it comes to their respective Francis they’d start immediately going “Oh you’re very similar to me! My Francis would never do any wrong to me!”

Then Tim would start gushing romantically and Doug would immediately zone out

Mattie Storin and Zoe Barnes

Originally a bit guarded but start opening up and realising how much they have in commons

Talk in depth about their favourite stories, and then later on about their respective Francis

Zoe would be completely weirded out by the Electra complex though

Bonus: “I know a man in my office called John, he’s so sweet but a bit of a goof. He means well though.” “I know someone just like that, his name is Lucas.”

Roger O'Neill and Peter Russo

If they don’t take drugs together, kill me

Roger thinks Peter is goofy, Peter thinks Roger is oblivious. They’re both describing their own faults in saying that

Oh, these two would get along like a house on fire

They’re both pleasant, friendly, truly caring about their country. They would see each other as good allies in the Special Relationship and friends outside of politics

Garrett thinks Henry is a little naive but he appreciates how much he cares for his older brother

Would probably go out for coffee together honestly

David Mycroft and Rachel Posner
