A virus is a germ-based enemy found in the Dr. Mario series. Viruses most often appear in three colors – Red, Blue, and Yellow – however, in later games in the series including Dr. Luigi and Dr. Mario World, a larger variety of colors and types are present. To defeat a virus, usually Dr. Mario must line up three Capsule pieces of the same color next to the virus of that color. The virus, along with the capsules, will then disappear... According to the Tetris & Dr. Mario instruction manual, the red virus is female, making it the only one until the introduction of the magenta virus

can I talk about how much I hate dr. luigi

i'm gonna do that

ok so there's a lot of small things to hate about it. for one, the new music is pretty middling at best. similar level to rx's cough. the old remixed music is worse than rx's renditions.e

second, the title screen. this does not remotely look like a doctor's office. this is a cafe break room. luigi, get back to work and help the fucking patients live. also, way to spoil the viruses being aliens! it was meant to be a cool secret in dr. marios past, but now they just get tractor beamed down every time you boot up the game.

third, what's with all the rx erasure? it was bad enough with the new music and viruses, and now you take out the awesome virus buster themes?? like I love brain age as much as the next guy but this is not brain age!! your entire engine is built off of rx and yet you spit in its face. disgraceful I says

all that, though, I can accept. there's other minor stuff, like too much green, or luigi not having the head mirror like mario, or the pill on the logo not being red and blue or at least magenta and cyan.

but the most inexcusable, irreparable offense in all of Dr. Luigi.

is the fucking virus designs.

holy SHIT the new viruses look bad. like oh my god how do you fuck these designs up so bad they look horrible. I can't stand looking at them for more than three seconds. even if you use the classic virus design option for the gsme screen, they're still there in the hud. watching.

they look NOTHING like the old cute viruses. they have big, white eyes, oversaturated colors, no inexplicable white gloves and brown shoes, and no consistent shape structure!

as much as I loathe dr. mario world, the one thing it got right was consistent virus design. if they gave any of these new viruses a body and less chibified design, I'd think they've been here since the start of the series!

dr. luigi's viruses look like stereotypical monsters in kids shows. disgraceful.

in conclusion, fuck dr. luigi and play miracle cure.

Top: the prototype version of Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga featured much more exaggerated and stylized designs for the Virus enemies in Woohoo Hooniversity.

Bottom: in the finished game, the quirkiness of the designs has been severely dialed back, so that the enemies are now on-model with the depiction of the Viruses in the Dr. Mario series.

The queen of the viruses, she hates humans, especially Dr Mario with a burning passion because they keep persecuting her people. She was behind the purple mud in Dr Mario World, and is immune to Super Vitamins because she has no colors, and the purple ones doesn’t work on her either.

Name’s obviously inspired by the Coronavirus, as Corona means crown.

Yeah I wanted to give the viruses a leader, but now that I look at her design she looks like King Boo and Mary Wickelle’s daughter-

The spaghetti Mario eats is an allegory for drugs (which are bad for you) and so Mario is on drugs (which is bad).

Bob is just a figment of everyone's imagination he's actually just a pile of cloth that blows around in the wind, everyone thinks this because they are all on drugs.

SMG3 is actually dead and everyone sees him as a ghost, he died from an explosion and he's also in a coma

Extremely good game, I highly recommend it!

Essentially your given these colored pills and your objective is to kill all the viruses on your screen by matching the colors of the pills with the virus to create a line of 4 or more. (I.e. red viruses are killed by red pills, so you need 3 pieces or more of red pills to kill it and same applies for yellow and blue)

This game is very nostalgic for me, and I love it!
