Time to end G4’s Official Run with IDW Comics...
Before I begin, as a reminder, I consider the Classic Reimagined Comics to be part of the G5 lineup despite it focusing on the G4 cast. So once I finish with MLP Generations, unless I mistakenly missed a previous G4 Comic, this will be the last of the IDW Comics until I get to review all of Generation 5. But that’s future AkumaTh’s Problem. Today, we’re going back to the past...
We begin this issue with the Daughters of Reeka and Draggle, Grackle and Dyre. Ignoring the questions on how they had kids, they’re stuck in the volcano while they’re... Somewhere. I don’t think this comic ever explains what. But they’re gone for a month and the kids need to do their chores, which includes getting revenge on the Ponies. That’s definitely a “leave it to us” job and not something their kids should do, but they’re stuck there with nothing to do, so might as well.
Luckily for them, they got their pet rat/possum Trench who can magically dig his way into another dimension. During this visit we see G4 at the School of Friendship, and the school is packed. So much so that despite all the teachers they’re being overworked. So after debating on what to do, Dash suggests getting help from outside Ponyville to help teach. And with that news, the Teenagers have an idea.
Make their own ponies out of Smooze, the OG one, to go over there and cause mischief. And after a trip because they can only do magic within the Volcano, they got their three Smooze Ponies and are being considered Teachers from Hayvard Unicornitivisty. And the comic ends with them showing up, and not a single Generation 1 Character appearing once.
That is a big flaw with this miniseries that everyone has pointed out: for a crossover with Generation 1 there isn’t a lot of Generation 1. We have daughters of G1 villains who look more Equestria Girls. We have minor references with nothing major like pictures of their mothers and Grandma. And not a single pony from the movie. You could literally rewrite the dialogue and you would never think of this as a crossover comic.
Another thing I’ve seen others bring up is how the comic HEAVILY references the show. Like you can overlay a screenshot and it looks like it was traced. I don’t mind because I think it is more of a reference thing that someone took way too seriously. Either that or they rushed it to get it out before G5. I only bring this up because one scene in the comic kind of looks and sounds like Evil Starlight, despite explaining why they’re overworked.
And sadly, this problem will continue to exist next issue...

MLP Gen 1: Self-Insert Reeka.
1. This version of Reeka would have been a former chef in her past life. 2. In her past life, she was an elder sister to her brother Nicholas and was raised with loving parents. 3. She prefers to be called Ree but only allows those close to her to call her that. 4. Ree is not very great at magic; while she is able to memorize spells, she isn't as good at casting them; however, through focus and handwork over the years, she is able to do at least five spells. 5. She is very good at making potions and cooking, almost at master level. 6. Ree doesn't consider Hydia as her real mother, and only stays with her in the volcano of gloom for the sake of her sister Draggle. 7. Ree loves her sister deeply and always tries to support her even when their "mother" always enjoys bringing her beloved sister down. 8. She secretly pen pals with other magical beings, including the Moochick and his assistant the Habit. 9. She wasn't a good older sister to her brother, whom she made fun of especially for his love of my little pony...She deeply regrets it.

From left to right: Hydiella (hid-ee-el-uh), Wreekayla (ree-kay-luh), Dragglynn (drag-ul-lin), and Diamond Dawg.
Hydiella, Wreekayla, and Dragglynn are The Infamous Witches of Gloom Mountain, though most layponies shorten that to “The Gloom Witches”. They have a longstanding blood feud with Starwish Dreamer’s ancestry, and that’s why she’s the one who takes them most seriously. Their goal? Destroy the pony population of Everlast Valley, including everyone who lives in Paradise Estates, so as to claim the land they believe should be theirs. Their track record? Stupidly poor. That damn pink horsie and her friends always manage to save the day. Frankly it’s not very hard given none of the three are, like, smart.
As with all witches (that is their species btw, not their occupation), these chicks are equipped with potion magic. Hydiella often says “If we can brew it, we can do it!” which is a good summary of their abilities. Their magic doesn’t have much reach, but so long as they can combine the right ingredients and chant the right spell, they can create a concoction that does just about anything. The caveat is that no potion’s effects are ever permanent, and every recipe has its own antidote. Many a time have they slipped something into a little pony’s drink only for the effects to either wear off or be treated shortly after.
Hydiella (leftmost) is the undisputed leader of the group. This is primarily because she’s Wreekayla and Dragglynn’s mom, but she’s also the most eeevil and determined of the three. She’s a bitter old hag with endless disdain for all things happy, frilly, and cute. Ergo, All Ponies Must Die. She believes the four legged population of the land are wasting their magic’s potential on frivolities like home decorating and making sweets, and it sickens her. Really, she pukes like once a day just for fun. And she’ll keep doing it until all of the ponies - every single one! - are gone.
Wreekayla (middlemost) is truly her mother’s daughter. She’s too much of a bumbling oaf to earn her mother’s approval, but she wants to be the most dutiful daughter she can. She’s probably the dumbest out of all of them, but she makes up for her lack of brains with excess amounts of cruelty which she usually aims at smaller animals. She holds genuine hatred for anything her mother tells her is bad and she’s often insolent when frustrated. The only things she shows a sliver of kindness towards are her ma and her younger sister, and even then she bullies her sis mercilessly.
Dragglynn (rightmost) is the aforementioned younger sister, and she’s the family’s black sheep. Speaking of black, her dark hair is one of the quirks her father gave her, as is her tall stature. Her pop is an unmentionable topic in her home because he was an evil warlock turned heroic knight, and it’s obvious her mom resents Dragglynn both for looking like her dad and also being a big ol’ idiot. True, Bedraggled Draggle (as her sis calls her) isn’t very bright, but she’s different from her family. She wishes she were more evil so as to make her mama proud, but she can’t rid herself of her ever growing empathy for the ponies.
Diamond Dawg is a unique creature created by Hydiella to serve as a walking, talking moodring. Seriously, he was a normal puppy “adopted” by the witches and turned into a sentient, color-changing diamond. Unlike most of their handiwork, this was not achieved through potions but instead via a ceremony that can only take place every 1000 years. Despite being “owned” by the witches, he’s only involved in their evil schemes because 1) they pay him in gemstones and coffee, his two favorite things, and 2) it lets him to take out his frustration on the fluffy, warmhearted creatures of the valley who have friends, families, and cultures, all things he bemoans his lack of. He’s especially jealous of Spike given the goddamn reptile knows more about dog stuff then he does. He’s not “evil”, he’s just employed in a miserable job and is always having an existential crisis.
Dawg is equipped with gem magic, the rarest kind of magic there is. It can only be granted through dark rituals, an almost unheard of concept in this land of whimsy. His magic lets him change colors to reflect his mood, sure, but it also grants him control over organic materials like rocks, minerals, and crystals. He mostly uses this ability to create crystalline tools for the witches to pair with their potions. The major downside to this magic is that it leaves him very weak, so he can only use it sparingly. The Witches understand this limitation and try to utilize his powers only about once a day, but their poor planning often puts all his efforts to waste anyway. Typical.
The Gloom Witches’ size hasn’t changed much from generation 1 to now, but since Diamond Dawg is just a mutt on two legs he’s closer to the ponies’ size. The top of his head almost meets theirs when he walks on all fours, though you’d be hard pressed to see him do that. I can’t tell if this makes Dragglynn, the tallest, taller or shorter then the average person, but I guess it doesn’t matter. There’s (probably) no humans in Everlast Valley to compare them to.

A Witch in Time
Hey there, personality quizzes. So, last week we finally bid farewell to the ongoing My Little Pony series. But just because the ongoing is over doesn't mean we're out of the Everfree yet. I've got a whole 'nother miniseries for you. And by "whole", I mean I have the first three issues of five. But that should buy me enough time to think of what we can cover here next~
Speaking of, here's the cover:

Wait, no, sorry. I mean, here's the cover:
Yeah! This is the first issue of MLP: Generations, following that trend of a very interesting sort of crossover, where characters meet past versions of themselves, or in this case, their own franchise. Fluttershy and Posey appear to have no interest in their own counterparts, unlike everypony else. Also, is Pinkie Pie really still Surprise's counterpart, when Surprise also exists in the FiM universe (she's one of the Wonderbolts, if you forgot)? Also funny is that Applejack seems to have removed her hat, so she can more closely resemble her G1 counterpart~
This one might be a little confusing, because the comic itself jumps between two perspectives a lot. I'll try to keep it together as much as I can, for the benefit of reading it here~
So we open at Gloom Volcano, which is in the G1 universe. I like that, it's been a long time since G1 got a chance to shine in anything, so it feels right to let their universe open the story. Here's some multicoloured ladies that wouldn't look out of place in Equestria Girls. This is Grackle and Dyre, daughters of Draggle and Reeka (and granddaughters of Hydia), the witches who caused such trouble in the 1986 movie. As punishment for all that Smooze business, the ponies banished the witches to their volcano. House arrest sucks~
Reeka and Draggle themselves are out, somehow. So they've left their teenage daughters a list of chores to take care of, one of which is "get revenge on those ponies". This, of course, is the one they take to readily. Still, they also opt to mop and dust on their way to the lab, so maybe they're not all bad. They exposit the backstory I just gave you in the previous paragraph. After making a pretty elaborate pizza with fire magic, the pair get down to business, calling for their minion, a possum named Trench.
Meanwhile, over in the FiM universe... This is clearly taking place post season 9 finale (but not in the epilogue), since Starlight Glimmer is the headmaster of the School of Friendship. Pinkie Pie is distressed, because it's time for lunch and she can't find a place to have it. Outside's too crowded, and she ends up dropping her lunchbox in the crowded hallway when she re-enters. Thankfully, Applejack spots her and uses her lasso to pull her into the teachers' lounge. She retrieves her lunchbox in the same way a moment later.
Rarity and Fluttershy are also already in the lounge, and Starlight soon enters afterwards. Starlight announces they have more than two problems. 138, to be exact (but a bitch ain't one). That's how many students have joined the school in the last six months. That'd be a lot for any school. And naturally, the number of teachers has not grown along with those numbers. Thus, the current ponies are feeling pretty overworked. Especially since some of them have been doubling up to cover for others (e.g. Pinkie's been subbing for AJ while the apple harvests are going on). Something's got to change, and preferably soon~
Back in the volcano, the witches bribe Trench with some of their pizza to go and spy for them. They can't leave the volcano themselves, but Trench has the power to tear open a space-time rift. Possums are remarkably powerful. They send him off to get some info on the closest ponies, to use as part of their revenge. Apparently the spell treats "the closest ponies" in dimensional terms, as Trench returns with a flyer for the School of Friendship. After mocking the school for a bit, they send him over to spy, which is about the only time the stories actually cross in this first issue.
So, while Trench is stumbling about in the crowded school halls, the teachers meet to discuss their problem. The long and short of it is, if they don't get some new teachers soon, they might have to stop taking new students. This is a little antithetical to their message of friendship, so they'd prefer not to have to take that route. Rainbow Dash, in a rare moment of being the smartest in the room, suggests they send letters to ponies in other towns, inviting them to be teachers. I guess a solution's only obvious once someone says it. Starlight leaves Rainbow to do just that.
Trench intercepts these letters, and the witches prepare their plan. They're going to make Smooze again, but this time in the shape of some ponies. They'll send them out to infiltrate the school, and then... revenge happens! It may not be the most thought-out revenge scheme, I guess. They also then send Trench out to fetch ingredients, and this is portrayed as a map with a simple board game overlaid on it. There's not even any "go back three spaces" sections, so it's really just who rolls the highest numbers. A good way to kill 20 minutes if you're five~
And over at the School of Friendship, Starlight receives the letter that Grackle and Dyre have written. They're some quick respondants, since the new professors will be arriving tomorrow. Rainbow Dash is impressed, since she hasn't even sent the letters yet--not that she voices this out loud. Even Twilight Sparkle, as school founder, turns up the next day to greet the new teachers (well, we had to get her into the plot somehow). And when the doors open to display our new professors... Well, we'll introduce them next issue, but let's just say they're pretty obviously sinister~
This first issue is basically all set-up for the event. I don’t mind that so much, but it does kind of make the cover kind of a bad tease. Not only do the G1 ponies not show up in this issue, there’s no pre-existing G1 characters at all. You have established FiM characters or new characters. This can be a bit disappointing, especially if you compare the Transformers crossovers, which jumped into the action immediately. This series, however, I think will be a bit more story-focused, which the Transformers ones were lacking. Up to personal preference which you like, I guess. The only other real gripe I have is that the witch cousins are very... modern millenial in the way they talk, if you know what I mean. “I can’t even with him” is a line uttered in this comic. I’m not saying it’s bad necessarily, just not what I’d expect~
Next week, we’ll get a proper look at these professors, who certainly can’t be here with any nefarious plans or anything~

Let's Fancast JEM: The Movie
I'm not talking about a live action JEM movie, but the animated version we should've gotten when GI Joe, Transformers, and My Little Pony: The Movies all came out.
In talking about the quality drop between GI Joe/Transformers and My Little Pony- I realized no one ever thought of who to cast in the movie.
Hasbro always swung for the fences with their movie casts:
Don Johnson (Lt. Falcon)- star of "Miami Vice"
Judd Nelson (Hot Rod)- Brat Pack member star of "The Breakfast Club"
Orson Wells (Unicron)- legendary director
Madeline Kahn (Draggle)- comedic star
Cloris Leachman (Hydia)- comedic star
Rhea Perlman (Reeka)- comedic star
Leonard Nimoy- star of Star Trek
Tony Randall (Magical Moochik)- Hollywood legend
You get the picture. The point being what stars would have been cast in the movie?
Christy Marx only got far enough into the process to write a treatment. But the supporting cast include:
Alex and Alyx Couto- the rock duo The Mongrels, twin brother and sister
Entropy- male AI (a counterpart to Synergy) whose power is to put people in a trance- a synthesizer invented by Techrat- the villain of this piece
Why, yes, Entropy would've beaten Sharon Apple to the punch by a decade.
Tympani- new female drummer for JEM (would become Raya)
"_____________"- love interest for Jem, an Asian-American California senatorial candidate
All have a lot of potential, but I'm at a loss of who would've been cast. It's too soon for anyone from New Kids On The Block, Debbie Gibson, or Tiffany. Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, and Pat Benatar could've been contenders. Debarge was in the right place at the right time. E.G. Daily could've been cast too, but she's not a big name.
Who has the kind of rock voice Christy Marx envisioned?
However, the way JEM worked was that the actors were cast and recorded in Los Angeles and the singers recorded in New York City and there's no reason to believe the movie would be any different.
Hasbro could've cast a bunch of famous actors and then unknown singers.
Take into consideration, the Transformers: The Movie soundtrack came out on Scotti Brothers Records. The soundtrack is chock full of unknown bands (except for Weird Al Yankovic).
MLP: TM didn't get a soundtrack. GIJ: TM didn't get any new music at all.
Christy Marx imagined an AI fight between Synergy and Entropy full of music, color, and light. Jem and The Holograms and The Misfits would team up to stop Entropy.
Bottom line, WE WERE ALL ROBBED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
#what could've been#jem#jem and the holograms#jem & the holograms#transformers#gi joe a real american hero#hasbro#my little pony#marvel productions#sunbow productions

ok i GOTTA know.. my little pony and ace attorney for that ask game
starting with ace attorney
Send me a fandom and I’ll tell you my:
blorbo (favorite character, character I think about the most): honestly i think it's edgeworth. i just think hes neat
scrunkly (my “baby”, character that gives me cuteness aggression, character that is So Shaped): ok this is gonna sound weird but actually pheonix. i know hes an adult man. but hes my son
scrimblo bimblo (underrated/underappreciated fave): will powers. he's just a big soft guy. also adrian andrews
glup shitto (obscure fave, character that can appear in the background for 0.2 seconds and I won’t shut up about it for a week): idk if she counts as obscure but im kind of obsessed w desiree delite
poor little meow meow (“problematic”/unpopular/controversial/otherwise pathetic fave): gumshoe. and larry. theyre both so pathetic. i want to put them in my pocket
horse plinko (character I would torment for fun, for whatever reason): wendy oldbag. not bc i dislike her but bc i think it would be really funny
eeby deeby (character I would send to superhell): manfred von karma. need i say more
and my little pony. all generations but actually probably going to focus mostly on non-g4 and probably heavily on g1 bc i grew up w the pre-g4 stuff so it's more nostalgic for me gfdjkg and its been a while since i watched g4 tbh i'd have to rewatch it to do this with g4 i think
blorbo (favorite character, character I think about the most): depends what gen tbh. in G1 i'd say maybe melody from mlp tales? in G2 definitely clover. G3 would be either kimono or cherry blossom (or cheerilee as they later renamed her... i prefer her original name) and G4 probably fluttershy
scrunkly (my “baby”, character that gives me cuteness aggression, character that is So Shaped): spike. all versions of him
scrimblo bimblo (underrated/underappreciated fave): G1 tic-tac-toe and baby tic-tac-toe! they were my favorites of the toys as a kid but they hardly ever showed up in the actual animated material so whenever i see their existence acknowledged i'm like ITS THEM!!!
glup shitto (obscure fave, character that can appear in the background for 0.2 seconds and I won’t shut up about it for a week): i would have put the tic-tac-toes in this spot but actually i think the better one for this spot is knightshade from the G1 mlp n' friends episode "bright lights". im p sure he only shows up for that one episode and i dont think they ever made a toy of him. he rules tho
poor little meow meow (“problematic”/unpopular/controversial/otherwise pathetic fave): discord. i dont feel the need to elaborate. ALSO the witch sisters reeka and draggle from the G1 movie
horse plinko (character I would torment for fun, for whatever reason): gusty. why is she so mean all the time
eeby deeby (character I would send to superhell): im sorry i know theyre supposed to be good guys but i hate the bushwoolies. im sending them to super hell

Doing the rewrite before the review anytime soon… (No Pictures this time)
My Little Pony: Generations is a 5 issue miniseries that served as the last time we would see the Gen 4 ponies. That changed with the upcoming MLP: Classic Reimagined with Little Fillies. Now to spoil my review, a big problem with the Generations Mini-Series is for a series about crossing over with Generation 1, there’s barely a crossover. The focus is more on characters inspired by Generation 1 and we don’t even see the Gen 1 ponies until the last page of the third issue. And even then they don’t really do much. So let’s see if I could make a better one.
Issue 1
This issue begins with a retelling of the MLP Movie. Basically how the Smooze were defeated by the Flutterponies. Now Reeka and Draggle have to clean up the mess of the Smooze since Hydia ordered them to, so they sent it into a dimensional void. In that void, the Smooze solidified itself into four S'monies. They split off into different directions, one going to the G4 Universe. In such a quick time, the G4 S’monie causes chaos in Ponyville and slowly spreads to the rest of Equestria. Twilight, visiting at the time, discovers that there’s an infection like in the original comic and its source was in the G1 Universe. Which leads to…
Issue 2
They arrive in Ponyland where they meet the Ponies in it. They explain what happened and a few went to get the Breezies since they think it could be as easy as it was. A small series of interactions before we get back into G4. The Flutterponies try but their wings aren’t as effective. So using the Power of the Elements within the G4 Ponies as well as the Flutterponies winds to remove the effect. They follow the remnants as it returns to their original source, the G4 S’Monie. He escapes into a portal, which the group follows…
To the Pony Tales universe. There they see the spread caused by the G1 Breezie. They try the same thing but it's harder this time since the two are together. Luckily the G1 Ponies had the Rainbow with them, helping the Flutterponies and G4 Ponies. Now with the two S'monies escaping to two different dimensions, the group splits up to follow them and hope that with the new friends they made in this world it can help them defeat the S'monies in the others.
Issue 3
The first half goes into the Gen 2 universe. There was only one game based on this, so this is where the creative juices can flow. With the group dealing with two S'monies, the Gen 1s and 2 Ponies discover the true Magic of Friendship to help defeat the S’monies of this world. Repeat for Gen 3. The two groups get back together since both the S'monies went to this world to escape. Which leads to…
Issue 4
The full Group of Ponies entering the world of Gen 5. To their surprise, nothing seems wrong. So a small group goes into Maretime Bay to investigate (1 per generation, with Twilight taking lead). They all look amazed at the surroundings, though the Pony Tales Pony thinks it's closer to their home. They are amazed to see Earth Ponies use magic. Twilight thinks it would probably be a better idea to ask the people if they noticed anything weird. So they go to a smoothie shack…
Where Sunny Starscout fangirls over Twilight. This confuses Twilight so Sunny invites them to the Lighthouse. The group meet and Sunny explains their deal. Twilight is worried because this means her reign eventually fails. But the other Generations say that it doesn’t have to be that way. The Jokers of each one also bring up Multiverse Theory.
Meanwhile, in the renovating Canterlogic, the S'monies regroup in more ways than one. And using the old Anti-Pegasi and Anti-Unicorn technology, they merge with each other and themselves to create a giant monster. The issue ends with it erupting out of the building.
Issue 5
Big Fight issue where The Party made up of numerous Generations take on the Giant Smooze. The more action oriented ponies do their best to keep their aim off the fleeing civilians while the support ponies help the civilians avoid danger. The Flutterponies are captured but a Pony Tales and G3 Pony manages to get them loose from the net. Sunny wishes the Lighthouse was stronger which leads Twilight to ask what she means. Sunny explains it's the source of all magic for poneis and that gives Twilight an idea. Twilight makes a big speech about Friendship and it inspires everyone. So inspired that the LightHouse glows brighter than ever before. In the other worlds, feeling their friends need help, give their emotional support. So with the Power of six different Pony Worlds, a Rainbow Blast covered all the Worlds, eliminating every single trace of Smooze in them. Not the good Smooze of G4, but the evil one.
They all say their goodbyes as they return home, as Twilight gives the metaphorical torch to Sunny. And it ends with Sunny and her friends knowing that together, there’s nothing they can’t accomplish.
So that would be my take. What did you think?
