Zephyrini, air genasi wizard, for @eerivee - This time in halfbody format! This one was a lot of work with all the swirl action going on (and the hair's lineart was also quite a lot), but I really wanted to give this character a proper rendition, and the Draw the OC Above we had on our server was the perfect opportunity for it!!

do you think that when rook stumbles out of the fade prison and through the eluvian to safety, there's a moment of everyone standing around in joyous (and probably exhausted) disbelief, where lucanis meets their gaze and recognizes the look of tremulous, hesitant uncertainty in their eyes -- that tentativeness of someone who feels they stand on the threshold of madness and one wrong move can send them over, the terror of something finally breaking apart in your head in a way that can never come back together and be whole again; the helpless is this truly happening? is this real? are you really here? confusion that verges on pleading. (the last time they saw him, he was dead. the last time they lost someone, their mind fractured around it for weeks, months, to spare them the knowledge, and they couldn't tell. until they could, and by then it was all too late. how could you know it's not all happening again? how could you not fear that it might be?)

yeah, lucanis recognizes that look immediately and with an instinctive visceral wave of empathy. because it's how he's felt so many times looking at them. anyway. anyone ever think about isabela's comment that lucanis looks at rook like he's afraid they're a fever dream. me neither

Ngl, some people's "I wasn't allowed to be an irredeemably evil shitbird, ergo Veilguard is not an RPG" argument is extra funny to me, because I don't actually think there is a conceivable narrative in which, if your Rook did something as objectively amoral as selling people into slavery, they wouldn't wake up the next morning floating untethered in the raw Fade with Neve's bootprint on their ass, and the Lighthouse no more than a distant blip on the edge of their vision.

Like there is a lot to get into here that I just don't have the time or the spoons to go through, but I'd argue that one of the biggest strengths of Veilguard's writing is that the main cast are all very well-defined characters with their own sets of morals, ethics, and goals, and they collectively have more than enough of a backbone that if Rook did something that proved them incapable of leading the team to the story's climax and/or proved them to be of no benefit to them, they wouldn't fail their quest: they would just swiftly and efficiently get rid of Rook.

New blorbo time! Say hello to Krusa, they're an air / earth genasi warlock, with an icy theme~ I really wanted a needlessly opalescent character and they were the perfect subject for it. They also happen to be related to Relent, because that family tree is neverending

fdskjfhsa mourn watch rook who's somehow never once run into emmrich in all the time they've both been at the necropolis, but does discover after an offhanded comment in passing that they have performed an autopsy on one of lucanis' previous targets when he was hired to take out some nevarran nobleman or other. 'oh my god that was one of yours??? :D you know I thought the knife work rang a bell when I saw it again back in the ossuary, I should've realized right away. we get a lot of murdered pentaghasts in of course, big family with big ambitions it does become a bit of a blur at times, but few showing off such impressive technique, well done I must say. huh. it's a small thedas after all. he's buried down in the whispering halls just across from the storm age pentaghast family memorial, if you ever want to go by and say hi for old times' sake. how did you get the angle to sever the aorta so cleanly, by the way? I've been scratching my head over that one for a decade now I never thought I might actually get an answer from the crow's own beak as it were'
