Summary:

Food was getting scarce, their home was falling apart. Everyone had mentioned moving on, like the other colonies, but this was their home! Dream couldn't just abandon their whole life behind. Then one day, a human appeared in their home for the first time since the old woman passed away. Could this young man be the answer to Dream's wishes, where they don't have to leave? Hope was back in their lives until the words "renovation" echos through the halls. Now Dream has to protect his colony from any intruders while trying to get to know about the pretty new owner with a strange accent.

Currently in the middle of writing the most self indulgent fic I've ever written. Idk how to describe it but it's essentially a slice of life with dteam plus techno and each of them are weird in their own right (Dreams a cult leader, George is a ballerina, Techno is part of the mafia, and Sapnap competes in skateboarding competitions) and it's all of them trying to live in a shared space without driving eachother away (modern day rent prices am I right) but it's honestly so fun to write. I was wondering if anyone knows how it should be tagged on here either dreblr or dreamblr cause it is an au and I took some characteristics from the dsmp but idk if there enough to be tagged dreblr

Mer breathing anatomy

When underwater the mers breathe through gills like normal fish (except for the mammals who don't have gills). When surfacing the mers 'sneeze' to remove water from their airways so they don't choke when switching to modified lungs to breathe. Their lungs are much smaller proportionally to humans to make room for their gills and associated organs.

This makes it possible to breathe out of water for a certain period of time - usually two to three hours before having to submerge themselves. Their gills and lungs share the same airway, an epiglottis like muscle can close off the lungs completely when submerged to make sure no water gets into the lungs and drowns the mer. Baby and young juvenile mers do not have the ability to surface since they do not have control of the muscle to open the lungs, they begin to gain control of it on the older end of Juveniles and young adults.

Many mers, especially ones who live in the twilight and midnight zones may never be able to gain control of their lungs. Its not an essential organ for fish mers its kinda like the appendix in humans.

This also means for handlers that getting sneezed on is part of the job.

Withering Heights

When he’s falsely accused of necromancy, George is forced to flee Manberg in an attempt to avoid his execution. His goal? Stay alive long enough to reach Kinoko Kingdom, where he will be granted asylum. On the way, he meets Sapnap, a fugitive who’s wanted on accounts of arson, and later Dream, a mysterious masked stranger who calls himself a traveler. The trio embark on the journey together, but things go sideways when they learn that Manberg’s ruler, Emperor Schlatt, has blasphemous plans that threaten to shake the very balance of the realm.

Here it is! My fic for @dreblr-gen-big-bang <3 it's been such a labor of love, and I'm so excited to share it with the world!! It's multiple chapters long, so I'll be posting chapters weekly (the word count on this post is just for the first chapter... it's a long one lol)

Fire drills

During fire drills the mers are warned beforehand so they don't get startled by the loud alarms so when a customer accidentally sets it off and the mers aren't expecting it it gets very chaotic for a while even after the alarms are turned off.

The medium and large mers are in their connected outside tanks talking and signing frantically between themselves until the workers are back inside and able to reassure them that there's no fire and it was an accident.

George, Sam and Larray commandeered one of the concrete platforms and lightly worry bout if the building actually is on fire even though they can't currently see any fire.

The small mers are a little more difficult as they hid in their burrows and didn't come out for hours even with food as encouragement. They're still very skittish after the alarm and scatter at every bump against the glass, a few signs were posted around saying to be careful of any sudden noises or movements for the next few days.

Sapnap bolted straight into the burrow the second the alarm sounded, Dream following when his colony mates also hid in their burrows. Sap was panicking badly so Dream tried his best to keep him calm, he didn't start calming until a handler dropped food infront of each burrow to encourage them out.

ok this might come across as kinda parasocial but i'm a writer and overthinker so bear with me here. also spoilers for dream's video

Something I was thinking about after watching Dream's video yesterday is I feel like George from 2 or 3 years ago would not have sacrificed himself for dreamnap.

Like i feel like if this was a manhunt from a few years ago, he would have told Sapnap his plan and convinced Sapnap do it or maybe he just wouldn't have done it at all. He'd wanna be there until the end, and i love george dont get me wrong, but i feel he was a bit more selfish a few years ago.

I'm probably wrong and just over-analyzing like some biologist thats disecting a frog, but either way it started making me think about how George moving in with them didn't just make him physically closer to Dream and Sapnap, but emotionally too.

Of course they were best friends before, but ever since he moved in its like their bond got even stronger. and that makes me so emotional to think about.

Idk it's just kind of funny and cute to see “character development” in all three of them ever since George got to the US. Apart they're strong and they're their own people, obviously, but together they're much stronger and more confident.

One thing Sapnap learned early on is that he often hears the same story twice. From different perspectives, obviously, but the exact same things happen. However, George prefers to keep the stories short and concise, with only enough details to get the point across. Dream shares everything. He shares so much that Sapnap once had to nearly smother him for him to finally take the hint.
