John Lennon and Mimi Smith meet relatives in New Zealand, 23rd June 1964
Also, of course Paul was amazed that anyone could look like John…
While I was talking to John, the other Beatles walked in. Paul McCartney was amazed at the family resemblance. When it was time to go, John asked me to take care of Aunt Mimi. You could sense the strong bond and love that John felt for Mimi, the woman who raised him. In fact one of the main reasons the Beatles visited New Zealand was because John knew that his aunt had several relatives out here, and he wanted to give something back to her. (x)

star wars au because I've been watching the clone wars with my friends. they aren't representing any particular characters. Remus is a Jedi because I think it fits him, Severus and Lily are two senators that Remus is supposed to be escorting, and Sirius and James are smugglers coming along for the ride.
Severus: Do you have a plan, Master Jedi?
James: Fear not Senators! You're in great hands! Severus: Can't he just use the Force and get us out of this?
Lily: That's not how the force works....
Sirius: Hey when we're done can I have a go with your lightsaber? ;)
Remus:... we're so going to die
please do not repost my art

it is Toby’s birthday <3
using this as a chance to remind people that it doesn’t matter if the things you love seem odd or “weird” to other people. they’re special - you loving them makes them special
I’ve spent the past decade obsessing over this man who many people have many times so kindly reminded me “doesn’t exist” - which I am already aware, but does it matter? does he need to exist to bring joy to my days? does he need to exist to spark creativity and push me out of a rut? does he need to exist for me to connect to his story, and see little bits of myself in him?
I don’t think so. In fact it’s better that he doesn’t. That this little character that was created simply out of fun fostered a community who come together to just simply adore him. isn’t that what being a human is all about? loving and appreciating the things our fellow people create?
I know I get on my blog and act like a lunatic 9/10 times, but at the end of the day this is what it’s all about. this is why I’m up at 8 am, acting as if this is my spouse’s birthday (which it totally is btw)
it’s cool to love things. doesn’t matter if the things you love aren’t “cool”.

@chai-chahiye-yr
This was getting long so I'll just put it here lol. Since no actually, I have not written anything formally about this but here it is now.
Jiang Cheng and Jin Ling's naming conventions for the dogs:
Their names (along with Fairy) are very very common brothel worker names "Love", "Jasmine" "Feifei" localized as Princess. They do mean these as they are the shtick being they're really naive and uptight young masters that find these concepts cute and innocent and circle around to eye popping names because any other young masters would be calling for and talking about a prostitute.
When it comes to feifei, leaving it just as Princess fails to conceptualize 妃. On its own it literally means imperial harem concubine/consort instead of the more innocuous 公主 gong zhu (Princess). "European Princess" 王妃 wang fei does use the same character but in this context it's to denote women that marry the sovereign prince, non-morganatically, in this day and age, still very rich but "untitled commoners" (most well known example is Princess Diana).
Fairy 仙子 is also just as fun because it is supposed to be someone playfully innocent and heavenly beautiful, it's the equivalent of "You can call me Angel" for English.

sub yuta okkotsu agenda 😔
no bc i got THOUGHTS, i got so many thoughts about my babygirl named yuuta okkotsu, you don't even UNDERSTAND how badly i want him
him in the movie-*aggressive eye twitch*, his big sweet innocent puppy eyes-fuck it just *short circuits*
AND THEN afterwards when he's his anxious, tired, emo self (me too fr), like he's still just my cutie patootie and it's a literal CRIME how little sub fics of him there are bc take one look at that baby AND TELL ME that he is a daddy dom in bed-you'd be lying to yourself and me-and we do not tolerate lying in this house
no but fr, he is not domming for his life. a service top-perhaps, he would still cry a lot though and if you were making HIM fuck YOU he would beg for you to just take over, his arms shaking on either side of your head as he tries to make you feel good. because it's not the same like this-he wants you to fuck him, he wants to ride you as your hands grope over his body, he wants to pinned against a wall and fucked hard and rough within an inch of his life.
babyboy just wants to be loved and taken care of by his so

hiii, ✨✨ congrats ✨✨ again!!!
i saw that no-one's asked for arson neil yet, so could i request it? thank youu :D
i hope you have a lovely afternoon <33
WIP Wednesday (6/18) | Arsonist Neil / Firefighter Andrew AU (Part 314)
"Oh, good." Andrew says simply. "I answered you with a text but I suppose you haven't seen it. There is no occasion. I just want to eat something nice and look at your face while I do it."
The confirmation that Andrew has no idea about the significance of this day makes Neil let go of the washing machine. "Just plain ol' dinner then, huh?"
"Yeah. Well... Maybe something else. If it's not too cold by the time we're done." Andrew answers, a hint of a lilt to his voice. All of Neil's ridiculous nerves are forgotten at the sound and he shrugs out from under the panic he had piled on himself.
"Oh yeah?"
"Yeah." Andrew answers, voice still low and syrupy. Something is said on the other end of the line, something not meant for Neil. Andrew huffs. "Give me a fucking second." He says harshly, then to Neil: "Are we on or not?"
"Yeah. We are. Very on."
"Good. Gotta go now." Andrew tells him. "Fire calls."
Neil knows it would be inappropriate to ask for the address to whatever is burning down, but he does consider it. Only for a second. Then he decides he shouldn't be showing up to fires that aren't his, just to watch Andrew in action. "Uh. Text me the name of the restaurant?" He says instead.
"Sure thing. See you later, Abram." Andrew hangs up and Neil drops into one of the hard plastic chairs in the corner, trying to resist the urge to get his lighter out.
What is the matter with him? Well, sure, the arson and all that. But getting bent out of shape over a date in the calendar? Concocting ridiculous scenarios wherein Andrew, his only anything, betrays his trust? All because of something as stupid as a day? Neil shakes his head, he's a fool. He needs a cigarette.
Or rather, the smoke. That will fix him.
He abandons his clothes and goes outside to watch a cigarette burn down to his fingertips. And then, he is perfectly alright.

Pre wwii what would conditions in the orphanage Tom grew up in hsve been like? (Ie in the 1926-37 period)
Honestly, conditions would've been pretty shit. Firstly disease was rife, especially as the East End (where Wool's presumably is) was a slum throughout the Industrial Revolution and into the 20th century (with it only really changing post WWII). Tom would be familiar with stuff like mumps and whooping cough, even if he never got sick himself due to magic protecting him (as we see with Harry). But they'd also be other diseases like tuberculosis, diphtheria, scarlet fever, rickets, polio and even the flu. It's likely multiple children at the orphanage would have physical disabilities due to polio maybe even with callipers (a permanent kind of splint to help people who'd suffered from polio walk). While children would often be isolated with most illnesses, it would be incredibly difficult for an orphanage to do so, and it's probable that children died as bouts of sickness and disease spread through the orphanage. Kids who were one day at dinner are gone the next.
The first legal precedent for adopting children occurs with the Adoption of Children Act in 1926, so legal adoption how we understand it today, was fairly new. Children were lined up on Sundays, washed and in their best clothes (after attending church!) for rich people to adopt, but it tended to be a way for getting free labour rather than out of an actual desire to have children to love and care for.
I'm not sure what JKR was basing her orphanage off (likely something modern), but Tom probably wouldn't have gotten his own room, even if he was considered 'insane'. There simply wasn't enough room. Children shared a dormitory, one that could be overstuffed and cramped, sometimes even with several children to a bed. Food was similar — it was a cramped long hall (almost like a smaller, horrible version of the great hall) with rows of tables and children waiting their turn for a meal. They were probably only given one or two a day; likely gruel in the morning and bread with a stew in the evening. Tom's diet would've been vegetarian because meat was insanely expensive, although he may have had meat on Christmas and potentially Sundays if the orphanage could afford it.
On that note, Tom and the other orphans would've been Christian, most likely CoE. Although Catholic orphanages did exist, Wool's is not named after a Saint and so was more likely Protestant. Tom would've gone to church every Sunday, perhaps in a chapel on Wool's grounds, although if not, it would've been at the local church. He also would've been expected to pray. He'd go to Sunday School alongside normal school (which would've been at the local public school or perhaps, if Wool's was especially large, which I don't think it was, there would've been one of the staff who could teach or they'd bring someone in). For Christmas itself, Tom would likely get an orange which was incredibly special due to his diet likely not including fruit.
Tom would've shared everything, including clothes. He probably didn't even have underwear, and may sometimes have had to wear dresses/frocks, especially when he was younger, due to a lack of clothes. These clothes would've been stiff and itchy, potentially with lice. They would've been washed once a week, as with the orphans themselves (in large buckets!), and been hung out to dry on huge lines. Depending on how many clothes there were to go round, Tom would've spent this time in underwear (although sometimes orphans didn't even have this) or in another pair of clothes that had been worn by other children hundreds of times before. It's no wonder Tom stole — he literally had nothing, not even his own clothes (and perhaps not even underwear either).
Tom would've been expected to care for children younger than him, including babies, from a very young age. Even if he didn't enjoy it, Tom would've been good with young children and it's no wonder he was able to make Head Boy at Hogwarts because of it.
The Great Depression would've made these conditions worse. Although some of the conditions would've improved over the years, the Great Depression meant that everything was more expensive. Meals were probably downsized, if not cut entirely to one a day. The amount of kids at the orphanage probably rose during this time due to parents having to abandon children, which would've been especially prevalent in the East End which, as I've mentioned previously, was just slums and dockyard. Meat probably disappeared completely from Tom's diet, even at Christmas.
All in all, Tom's early life and conditions at the orphanage were grim. Kids died around him, conditions were cramped with diseases, illness and lice, he'd not even have his own clothes, meals would be limited, he'd spend his free time looking after kids younger than him and he'd fear being adopted. The roaring twenties were shit and the thirties shitter still. Hogwarts would've been the best thing that ever happened to Tom — it's no wonder he called it his home.

I am madly in love with the way you described Dumbledore in TNER. It's one of my favorite characters, but I know so few works where he really resembles the book version. You've done it perfectly. And I'm curious, what do you generally think of such a controversial personality?
aw, thank you! :3
dumbledore is super polarizing (or do most people hate him these days? i'm always reading pro-snape stories and Dumbledore is persona non grata in those akgjaj not sure how he shakes down in other parts of fandom).
to me, characters are either boring or interesting. within these designations, you can have different shades: "aggressively uninterested" or "just don't think about them at all," vs. "their psychology intrigues me" to "i must hereafter shape my identity around my new blorbo" (e.g. snape!)
dumbledore is my "his psychology intrigues me" type. he fascinates me. what the heck is his deal. he lets harry run around doing the most insane things with monsters and bodily harm, lets snape run around doing the most insane things to his students egos; lets the marauders do whatever the heck was going on there; hires a dude wearing voldemort as an accessory, and gilderoy lockheart -- the list is endless. but then! he's genuinely kind to house-elves. he's completely free of werewolf prejudice, and other prejudices besides (apart from the Youthful World Domination phase in which he hated muggles and stuff). he does seem to be genuinely kind and caring. he's also idolized by the narrative, talked up pretty much at every turn.
there's a kind of cognitive dissonance to the guy.
the narrative for six books: omg dumbledore is THE most amazing. the kindest, the most enlightened, the most trustworthy, the one harry trusts without reserve, the one who gives everyone strength, the only one voldemort fears, defeater of grindelwald, also he loves candy! proof he's the best.
the Secret Backstory dropped in the last book: uhm ACTUALLY
the narrative again: NO HE'S STILL THE BEST. ignore harry dying. THE BEST. ALBUS SEVERUS POTTER. SEE?
to be clear, none of this bothers or annoys me. i just don't think of it that way. what i do think is that JKR was trying to finagle something she didn't quite have the subtlety to pull off.
once we get his full backstory, we have a guy who 1) went through a world domination phase with the man he loved 2) accidentally murdered his own sister 3) realized the path he was on would lead to widespread destruction 4) isolated himself from the world because he couldn't be trusted, either with power or with love.
this is my favorite thing about dumbledore: he locks himself up in a tower because he believes, or understands, himself to be an incredible danger to life and liberty. he cannot be trusted. he proves this over and over: first with the safety of his siblings; then the safety of the larger world; and finally, tragically, the safety of harry. he doesn't even trust himself, although he continues to act as if his judgments are without fault or flaw. he tells harry that because his intellect is greater than most people's, his errors tend to be correspondingly huger -- a line that leads harry to believe dumbledore made the wrong judgement about snape, of course, but which is actually about dumbledore's own youth. but the fact that dumbledore turned down an official position of power (minster for magic) and sequestered himself in hogwarts from a young age, that's him not trusting himself, and knowing it, and removing himself from the temptation of widespread influence and public control.
his past wrong judgements become more impactful when we understand he was in love with grindelwald and probably still harbors some tangled knot of feelings. HP is a series about love -- voldemort never understood it, was conceived in violation of it; harry was protected by an act of love from lily, who died for him, and an act of love from snape, who lived for her. harry's patronus, the purest expression of joy that magic is capable of manifesting, is borne of his own love for his father. harry's enduring love for the family he never knew protects him not only from voldemort's touch but from his influence -- he declares he'll never Join the Dark Side because voldemort killed his parents. "you are protected," says dumbledore, "by your ability to love." this was not true for dumbledore.
harry's love purifies his intent and gives him courage. snape's love (again, see his vow, his patronus) turns him off a path of evil to one of self-sacrifice. dumbledore's love, by contrast, killed his sister, destroyed his relationship with his brother, allowed a villain to rise to power. i just think, damn. what must dumbledore feel when he looks at it that way?
i love the inherent destructiveness of loving something monstrous; loving something when you don't want to. there's a notion that we are what we love, or that our love is some reflection of ourselves. if we look at it like that, then dumbledore loving someone evil says a lot about him. but he was frightened by it, so he locked himself away.
he also combines what appears to be a great capacity for compassion with an equal capacity to sacrifice anything necessary in order to achieve a goal he's constructed as worthy.
this makes sense, too: in a way, he sacrificed himself all those years ago -- his plans, his future, his love, because the price was too high. dumbledore in his youth thought that he could Save the World by controlling people. then he realized that control has only ever doomed the world, but he never quite let go of saving the world. when voldemort rises, dumbledore takes a different tack of becoming a private general, or perhaps a military advisor: still largely removed from the thick of war but directing others, who are relieved and grateful to have his plans of attack. he also deeply inspires people, harry being one of the most powerful examples. harry places his absolute trust in dumbledore, believing that this person loves him (which he does) and will always protect him (which he can't) -- and dumbledore betrays this trust by openly acknowledging that, for the freedom of the world, harry needs to die.
it hurts dumbledore to realize that harry has to die in order for the world to be saved; it hurts him so badly he (as i see it) pawns off the truth-telling to snape. he can't look snape in the eye when he tells him; he can't look at anything. he shuts his eyes as if blindness will make it easier.
dumbledore could face the truth, the necessity. he doesn't say "we'll find another way," he says "harry must die." but he couldn't face harry. his desire to save the world once again places him in a position where he has to hurt someone he loves. and he does it. in a way, he keeps playing himself.
i LOVE that.
.....i wrote a lot more than i thought i would akgajgkahjh well, he's one of your favorites, so hopefully you didn't mind!
