made a kind of friend/acquaintance type thing at school... his names shea (pretty sure that's how you spell it). he's in my communications class, hes looking to be an illustrator. we kind of just clicked pretty much immediately n have had a few nice conversations... I got his discord too n we talk here and there. he's very funny and animated and he thinks my art is cool n sees me as like an actual author n stuff. trying to be normal....
#he's also very cute unfortunately but im burying that so deep down inside myself#he's this biracial black guy with a loose afro and he wears glasses and has freckles n dresses in hoodies and converse#(even though it's 90 degrees out)#he's from Ohio he came out here to study animation at dupaul (he's transferring after he graduates from prairie state)#he knows im trans and he's super chill about it like he treats me like a normal guy#also trying not to have a complex about that. im so normal I swear.#ive already had thoughts about having sex with him but im not dwelling on them and I push them away when I have them#bc I know it's just bc ive never had any kind of intimate relationship with someone that didn't involve sex#I Am So Normal. I Am The Most Normal Guy On Planet Earth. Prommy.#pretty sure he's straight but if he asked to hit I would hesitate to say no. not thinking about that though.

The local St. Vincent DuPaul thrift store had some treasures this week.
Today I found my partner a perfectly lovely (and well-fitting) men's suit jacket, and these for myself:

Hey, @dollblr
What kind of treasure did I stumble into?
They were each in a plastic bag, with a Chancery-font label identifying them as Evening Gown, Tea Dress, and Day Dress. They're all on hangers. They each have a packet with hat/hair ornaments, jewelry, spats, and handbags.
It's clearly a wardrobe set for a collector doll, likely porcelain. It's not the Josephine doll from Franklin Mint (the Gibson Girl) but it is exquisitely detailed.
I paid less than $4 for the set. They were stapled together at the top.
I can't wait to put these on my 1/escape BJDs.

Online Counselling for Postpartum Depression: A Lifeline for New Mothers
Many view motherhood as a euphoric, fulfilling phase of life; however, for many new mothers, it comes with unexpected challenges including postpartum depression. Affecting around 10-20% of new mothers worldwide, postpartum depression can destroy the fragile balance between emotional and physical health during one of the most critical moments in a woman's life. With online counseling on the rise, however, support is now just a click away, offering an accessible and effective solution for mothers trying to navigate this difficult condition.
Understanding Postpartum Depression Postpartum depression is something more serious than the "baby blues." While everyone experiences mood swings and minor feelings of sadness in the days after giving birth, PPD is a major mental illness which can last weeks or months. The symptoms may range from extreme mood swings and severe levels of exhaustion, to feeling of worthlessness, being unable to bond with the baby, and in extreme cases, thoughts of suicide or infanticide. Left untreated, PPD can have long-lasting effects on the mother, the baby, and the entire family unit.
In the past, help for PPD involved receiving psychotherapy or counseling. However, many stigma-related issues exist, and mothers experience a lack of time and the physical demands of caring for a newborn; these make it impossible for them to receive professional help. Online counseling now fills the gap.
The Appeal of Online Counseling for PPD
Convenience and Accessibility New mothers often never have enough time. Between feeding schedules, diaper changes, and desperately seeking sleep, it's tough to find the time to get out of the house for therapy. Online counseling allows a woman to avoid travel and to secure help from the comfort of her own home. Therapy sessions can be scheduled around nap times or can be done during quiet moments, making therapy more accessible.
Anonymity and Less Stigma Even with ever-growing awareness, stigma continues to define postpartum depression. "Many mothers feel shame or guilt over their despair and fear judgment from others," according to DuPaul and Eckert. The anonymity of the Internet can give mothers a certain degree of comfort in opening up their hearts. As anonymously as possible, they can share their thoughts by means of the virtual platform, without being seen on the street or judged by their community.
Cost-Effectiveness Online therapy is usually cheaper. Many online therapy platforms operate with sliding scale fees, subscription models, or packages designed for individuals to fit any budget. All this makes it affordable for families that already suffer from the pangs of having a family budget.
Specialized Support Many online counseling platforms have specialists with the training to treat PPD. These people are aware of the unique set of issues new mothers deal with and can tailor their approach to the individual. Whether it's CBT, mindfulness-based techniques, or any other evidence-based intervention, online counseling provides drastically better outcomes than traditional forms of therapy.
How Online Counseling Helps New Mothers
Early Intervention and Assessment One of the advantages of online therapy is early intervention. Women who are showing early indicators of PPD can readily access professional services before their symptoms will exacerbate. Quite a number offer assessments online so that mothers better understand their condition and know what to do next.
Versatile Therapy Options Online counseling comes in a myriad of formats designed to fit a particular preference. Mothers can prefer video calls, live chats, or even text-based therapies. The flexibility enables mothers to interact in any manner that makes them feel most comfortable at any given moment and especially when they are under much stress and fatigue.
Building a Support System Other than individual therapy, online platforms also contain forums or support groups where mothers can interact with others who face similar challenges. These groups ensure a sense of belonging and reassurance to the mothers, reminding them that nobody is alone in this battle.
Continuous Monitoring and Support Online counseling ensures constant support, even between sessions. Most websites allow the clients to send messages to their therapists, thus allowing for continuous communication. This is particularly effective for mothers who may experience sudden emotional lows or crises.
Success Stories: Real Impact of Online Counseling Meet Sarah, a 32-year-old new mom, who started experiencing symptoms of PPD two weeks into motherhood. She felt guilty, worthless and anxious about not being a good mom. She could not possibly go in person to therapy sessions because of the unpredictable scheduling of her baby. Sarah was able to find a licensed therapist specializing in PPD online. With video sessions and messaging support, she gradually regained her confidence and learned how to control her emotions.
Stories like that of Sarah highlight how online counseling can be the lifeline for new mothers, offering more than just convenience but a real chance for recovery.
Challenges in Overcoming Problems with Online Counseling While online counseling is highly effective, it is not without challenges. Some potential mothers might be deterred by limited access to the internet, lack of familiarity with technology, or skepticism about virtual therapy. More efforts are required to raise awareness about the effectiveness of online counseling and ensure access to technology for all.
Further, mothers with severe symptoms of PPD-for example, suicidal ideas or psychosis-will need an urgent in-person or emergency visit. There should be a clear protocol for online counseling platforms guiding such clients to the appropriate resources.
Conclusion: A New Dawn for Maternal Mental Health Indeed, online counseling has revolutionized the manner in which we approach postpartum depression. It continues to provide a lifeline for new mothers so that no one suffers in silence and that no one takes on this journey alone. Because of its accessibility, affordability, and specialty support, online counseling is changing the landscape of maternal mental health. As awareness increases and technology advances, the lifeline will only grow stronger, aiming to provide hope and healing to the world's mothers.
For women who have just gained motherhood and are suffering from PPD, seeking help never signifies weakness but rather braveness toward the recovery of fun, balance, and health. Online counseling proof that help is always close at hand, even for the busiest and most challenging moments of motherhood.

My Treasured Catholic Prayers - August 3rd, 2023 A.D.
I was recently gifted with a wonderful new book of Catholic prayers. Today I had a chance to read some of them. Thank you to my friend, Joyce, from the St. Vincent DuPaul charity (who brings me pantry items and religion every month to help me survive) for all of the wonderful things you found in the pantry for me and for all the prayer books! The book is called My Treasured Catholic Prayers and…

That's from page 272.
I agree with you, it's a garbage statistic to try and use to prove anything about ADHD experiences in US-based bachelors programs in the 2000s.
However, the figure you've pulled up is not in any way related to the Montreal study in chapter two. It's for the New York study in chapter six. (Also mentioned in the second sentence of the first paragraph of the selection above from the Summary.) It's also probably off by a lot, because it's also old, male, and only looking at young-diagnosed hyperactive folks.
Anyway, DuPaul shouldn't have cited this source in this manner when trying to draw conclusions about modern US bachelors programs and ADHD folks' experiences in them, because it's misled a hell of a lot of people into thinking this is an accurate statistic.
For more information, I recommend the reblogs above mine in these three reblog chains:
Re: adhd study, the 5% stat is from a 1980 study in Montreal.
Do you have a link, perchance?

❞❆⊰ ❛❛ ꜱᴛᴀʀᴛᴇʀ ꜰᴏʀ ⟹ ᴊᴏʜɴɴʏ. ( @theworldnextdoor )
THIS WASN’T THE FIRST TIME sabrina was new in town. she bounced from city to city frequently, rarely ever renewing a lease - but it made her good at making new friends ( well, hopefully it did ). she headed to a bar a few blocks over - the best reviews in the area as far as dives were concerned - and sat next to the only other person at the bar. annoying.
❝ hey, i’m sab, ❞ she said with a sly smile, back facing the bar. ❝ and i believe you were about to buy me a drink. ❞

i’m a trust fund baby; you can trust me
Sometimes, like every other red-blooded human on the planet, alcohol made Link do stupid things.
Sometimes those stupid things got him beat up by girls’ boyfriends.
Knowing Al’s place was closer than his own, Link had directed the Uber over that way, accepting the driver’s pity because, damn it, he deserved it. He had had a long night, yes, thank you.
Upon arrival, Link had knocked at Hakim’s window for a good five minutes before moving on, slightly disappointed that he was missing out on his chance to serenade him with a little Elton John. “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart”, specifically, since that was the only Elton John song he knew. He was about 75% sure the other man would have joined in a little - and now the world would never know.
He was maybe still a little drunk.
That was not the biggest issue, though. The biggest issue was currently throbbing on his face, growing blacker by the moment where a man twice his size had put his fist in Link’s eye. “Farah.” He yell-whispered at the next window on the fire escape. “Farah, wake up.”
