As my little love letter to the BG3 community on Tumblr, I decided to draw some of my favorite Durges and Tavs that I follow on here! (This drawing is just Durges! Next drawing [if I don't finish my own Tav, Rowan's, timeline] will be Tavs). I highly suggest you check them out (if you don't know their lovely faces already).
Durges in reading order are as follows:
@immren, @meanbossart, @hellothisisangle, @ejoym, @mlarty, @asphodelles , and @shaykai
The Dark Urge and Lump the Enlightened are getting married, and YOU are invited, gasp! There will be dwarf served. Take that as a warning or a perk depending on your Tav lolol. (Yes I ship this)
okay but I just thought about it, one thing we know is that Durge is able to resists The Urges when it’s someone they love, as seen by not killing Isabel. this can’t be the first time Durge has had that happen
It definitely isn’t! There’s even scattered mentions of it throughout the game. Sceleritas complains that Durge had a tendency to be too kind to orphans and beggars, etc., and had to initially be cajoled etc into killing them.
At some point after that the cult mind/brainwashing really got to them because that “weakness” seemed to steadily appear less and less… but the cult seems to exist entirely of outcasts and orphans, so maybe Durge just found some wiggle room where they could. (They did definitely eat and murder a lot of innocent people, to be clear. They can contain multitudes it’s okay.)
And then there is, of course, the Letter of Forgiveness, Orin’s comments, and Enver Gortash, Chosen of Bane. Who Durge admits to punishing themself for, because they admire and respect him more than they desire to follow the Urge. Who Orin laments over for weakening their slaughter kin, because Durge wouldn’t kill him.
Durge resisted The Urge for Enver fucking Gortash and it has me gnawing at the bars of my enclosure. There’s even a voice line where if Durge attacks Gortash, he mentions that he thought Durge had better control over the Urge than that, which implies they have discussed the possibility before. (And that Gortash can’t fathom a world where it is Durge who chooses to attack him.)
Heartbreaking: The Worst People You Know Just Unlocked the Power of Love Unholy Obsession
The Dark Urge never has to ask Gortash "Would you love me if I was a monster" because they always were one and Gortash knew it and he did not care, he saw what they are and never hesitated.
However if the Dark Urge refuses Bhaal and is free of him they has to ask "Would you still love me if I was not a monster?" Because Gortash fell for powerful creature created and touched by god, so could he still love them even though if they are no longer that being, if they are free of their god and therefore lacking the power?
So I'm romancing Astarion with my most recent Durge character (go figure LMAO) and I have never got this dialogue before. Let me tell you it is amazing and adds that much more to the idea that until Astarion is has actually fallen in love with the player around act 2 he is just using his charming facade as he always has to romance your player. To him it's all an act because he has no real idea what love actually means.
As an Astarion storyline lover I absolutely love the idea that he just does what he's used to because, to him, that's all there is. Because he knows he doesn't love the player yet per say but he knows that's what they likely want to hear. It makes me sob for him omfg I love him and he so deserves the world and to be with someone who he actually loves😭😭😭😭
On a side note the face my character makes at his statement also tears me to shreds because she knows it isn't true as well and just the subtle face drop literally makes me want to scream it's so good.
