——— doyun frowns, furrow in his brow and all, at the computer pinging at him from the counter. you'd think as long as he's owned the place, he'd know how to work the POS system, but here he is. with a world-weary sigh, doyun tugs at the ends of his hair as he tries to click around on the screen in a desperate attempt to get it to unfreeze, to no avail. normally he'd pout at nari to fix this sort of thing, that girl was way better than he was at fucking with the computer. but it's her day off and he's reluctant to disturb that peace.

as he's debating giving up and flipping the sign so beat street's closed, the little bell above the door rings and in walks in what doyun considers a literal angel: "danbi!" oh what a sight for sore eyes, he thinks as he hops over the counter (sure, he could walk around but that's not half as cool looking). "boy, am i glad to see you, i need your help," he says conspiratorially as he ushers her towards the demon technology in question. "this thing is frozen and i can't get it unfrozen and, like, how am i supposed to sell anything like this? you know? and also someone told me when they were buying something today that this place is 'fire' what does that even mean?" the last part, a little less important but it just popped in his head and now he just can't stop thinking about it.

while he waits to see if danbi will even help him or not, doyun looks between her and the computer and nervously chews at a hangnail on his thumb. god, he hopes he doesn't have to get a whole new computer or POS system at this rate. like, sure the thing hasn't been upgraded the entire time he's owned the place (oops), but it works, okay? don't fix what's not broken or something. "you don't think we need to hold a funeral for it, do we?"

mika's pulled at the edges of her fairy wings as she neared the front of the ferris wheel line hearing the crunch of leaves underfoot. she enjoyed the feeling of the fall and she'd spent hours making her costume. it was unbelievable how much she'd poked herself with the needle while sewing the flowers onto the corset of her top. still, it had all been worth it for the myriad of compliments that she'd gotten for the night so far. she'd thought about a lot of different options for her costume. an angel, a hot police officer, even a firewomen but she'd settled on being the physical embodiment of jealousy after reading a book full of short stories where jealousy was their downfall. such a powerful emotion maybe only trumped by things like anger and love.

as she was ushered onto her cart of the ferris wheel, the attendant leaned in telling her that she needed another passenger. she was stuck for a moment seeing how everyone else who had been in the line had brought a partner with them except her. "um-" she hesitated looking around to see if anyone she knew was close enough to hop on the ferris wheel with her. it was then that she spotted danbi. "hey! hey, bi! do you want a free ride?" she shouted holding up the two tickets she would had the attendant for her friend.

"welcome to ansong evening news, live at 5! this is seo yumi with an updated, urgent weather report. currently, we are seeing steady snowfall that will be picking up sometime this late evening. we currently predict that the snowfall will increase overnight and project there to be roughly over two feet of snow by 8am tomorrow morning. visibility will also be greatly affected, so we advise all residents to be careful while driving on the roads, as wind gusts could pick up and drop the temperature down at least five degrees. we advise any and all residents who are currently out and about to prepare for this uptick in snowfall and to try to stay indoors before late this evening to avoid the worst of the snowfall. we will keep you updated as it progresses, but for now please stay safe, warm, and keep those shovels on standby!"

the next morning, many residents will notice there is a true winter wonderland outside their building. so much so that they can't seem to leave their apartment building. the doors are blocked by heavy snow, and the heating seems to be a bit spotty which leaves many residents cold and unable to do much but stay put in their apartments.

dabin owned a personal shopping cart that resulted quite useful when loading up on supermarket staples or totting a farmer's market bounty. not only did it carry produce, eggs, and the occasional wine bottle, her wheeled cart could roll heavier cargo, like 5-gallon water jugs or a case of soda. it could also be easily maneuvered, with wheels that turned well, and it even climbed stairs without getting stuck—it wasn't much of an issue for her since she lived on the first floor anyway. despite being one of the best purchases in her (after)life, dabin had forgotten to take it with her to fresh fields the day when she needed it the most.

still, fortune smiled on dabin when paying for her groceries. she spotted one of her favorite people at the customer service desk. danbi was working and she approached to say hello, also to ask if her shift would end soon. they had walked home together on previous occasions that their schedules matched, so she wanted to make good use of the trust that existed between them and ask danbi for help to carry a few bags. the sweet girl had of course said yes and dabin couldn't be more grateful. she promised to wait for her while danbi clocked out; she didn’t want to come across as bothersome after requesting that favor.

“thank you for your help again!” dabin said for the umpteenth time as they got ready to step out. she made sure to distribute the bags for danbi to get the products with lightweight packaging or the transportable vegetables; it only seemed fair. “i swear that i’m not always this forgetful,” she apologized. “anyway, how was work?” the small talk did not feel awkward when it involved danbi. she appreciated their conversations and was genuinely interested in her day. dabin knew that she was a diligent employee, perhaps a too keen on taking extra shifts. it was nice to see her going home a little bit earlier than usual.

spookier than anticipated.

going into the maze, jinsol, admittedly, did not have much expectations. she'd always believed the maze to be no different from any other, with the exception of an occasional halloween decoration or standee to match the season's event. but as she'd never participated in years prior, jinsol decided that this fall carnival would be the year!

however, each corner she took proved to be scarier than the last. though she hadn't intended to, jinsol let out a piercing shriek each time she'd bumped into a familiar face by happenstance. each encounter ended with the same shameful apology. it wasn't until the tenth run in (maybe more. truthfully, she'd lost count.) that jinsol decided that her throat had had enough.

"park danbi, was it?" she'd barely managed to speak through her coughs as she attempted cleared her throat. "how do you feel about finding the exit to this thing together?"
