Chapter 1

Rowan held a pin in her mouth as the sound of a sewing machine filled the room, along with the Elton John vinyl she was listening to. All of a sudden the needle snapped in half, a piece of it flying past her head and causing her to yelp.

"Shit!" She said, getting out of her seat and looking around for it on the floor. The silver glistened, catching the corner of her eye. Rowan reached out, carefully picking it up and attempting to stand, but accidentally hitting her head on the table.

"Ow!" She groaned, quickly grabbing the back of her head and mumbling, "That hurt." She decided to take a break fo a moment from making her dress and walked into the kitchen, still clutching the back of her head.

A few minutes had past of her cursing to herself before the front door of her apartment suddenly opened, making her look up.

"I'm home!" A blonde cheered, making Rowan giggle.

"This is my place, Michelle." She said, rolling her eyes.

"Oh I know, but I basically live here." Michelle replied, immediately walking into the kitchen, past Rowan, to the fridge.

"Hey, hey, hey!" Rowan said, removing her hand from her head and grabbing Michelle. "You already ate all my food and I had to buy more. I'm not letting you eat all of it again."

Michelle groaned, furrowing her eyebrows and making a sad face. "Please, Rowan."

"No."

Michelle huffed. "Fine...Can we at least get food?"

"Sure, but I'm not paying." Rowan replied, sighing. She crossed her arms, staring at her friend.

"Deal. I'll pay." Michelle said. "Well, let's go. I'm starving."

It wasn't long before Michelle and Rowan were stuffing their faces with fresh Olive Garden breadsticks, the best breadsticks in the world.

"After this we should go out." Michelle suggested, making Rowan stop chewing and look up.

"Hm?" Rowan quickly gulped down the bread in her mouth before speaking again, "What do you mean?"

"I mean like let's go out. We can get drinks, maybe meet some guys if you know what I mean."

"Michelle, you know that's not my-"

"Kind of scene. You say that every time." Michelle rolled her eyes, folding her hands on the table.

"It's true!" Rowan argued, grabbing another breadstick.

"Okay well I think you need to get out more."

"I do get out. I just don't like places like bars and parties. They play trashy rap music and everyone is was too energetic."

"Well that's what you do at parties, party." Michelle replied, obviously getting slightly annoyed. "Please, Rowan. Tonight let's go."

Rowan was quiet, staring down at the breadsticks in her hand. "Fine." She said, taking a large bite of the delicious, buttery dough.

Michelle giggled and smiled widely in excitement. Just as she was about to speak again, the waiter arrived with two plates. As soon as he left the girls dug into their food, not saying a word until their plates were clean.

Michelle paid the check and the pair left, Rowan being dragged behind her best friend. Feeling quite anxious, her palms began to sweat. Yes, she going out and meeting new people, but usually in more calm situations.

The sound of loud music surrounded Rowan as she was pulled into a bar by Michelle, immediately making her tighten up. She took a deep breath, trying to let herself relax though it was quite hard for her.

Michelle left Rowan and told her to go find a table for them to sit at while she got drinks. Almost immediately the anxiety of being left all alone set in. Usually, Rowan liked being alone, but never in places like this. She stood there for a moment, thinking about following her friend and stood there frozen before finally going to find a table.

She tried to walk fast, but was also terrified of tripping and decided to slow down. Rowan was swiftly weaving through tables when she heard a voice right next to her.

"I like your shirt."
