writing habits tag game
Hi @sixthesnek! thanks for the tag, this is gonna be fun!
gonna tag @thepepinpurple @meteorenn and @me-paina! also anyone who wants to do this can too!
I write: whenever im feeling up for writing. i try not to force myself to write when im not getting any creative juices flowing.
I write most often: on days when im not working or when i get home from work. also on road trips. i will literally burn myself out on roadtrips from all my writing
In one sitting, I tend to write: once i get going, i can literally write thousands of words, but i don't think i've written more than 3k words in one sitting (that sitting being almost 7 hours while on the road)
I tend to write scenes: for oneshots/standalone fics, chronologically usually, but i have written scenes out of order on really long fics. for a series i might skip around and write things out of order
The things that comes easiest to me are: ANGST! angst and lore/worldbuilding. i feel like im getting a bit better at slowburn too
I tend to write: on my laptop or pc. i only write on my phone if im desperate and i haven't written stories in a notebook since 2019 (yet i still hoard notebooks)
When I take a break from writing, it usually lasts: it can last months in bad cases, but it almost never lasts more than a month and a half. that being said i have to post soon if i don't want to break that record...
My favorite thing to do when I'm on a writing break is: sewing, playing guitar, and thinking of stories i know i will never write
In general, I think my writing habits are: pretty good! i've been writing for years now and i've had a long time to hone my skills and habits. sure i have room for improvement but so does everyone.

If anyone is here from my AO3 I'm trying ya'll.
Status updates: When the Rest Walk Out- There's one maybe 2 chapters left and I just have to get my brain around how to get from where I am in my head to the ending. I know all the stops on the way just not the streets that connect them. Melodic Weave- I might post a short update in the next week but I'm torn. I have 3k words written but I'm not quite to a natural stopping point, and nothing has really happened in this chapter that feeds the plot so I would prefer to wait. I have a road map for probably 2-3 chapters including this mostly written one, it's just at a heavier place and I don't have the mental energy.
Verified Rumor- This is chapters ahead, I'm just trying to hold off really updating it until I finish When the Rest. It's currently the easiest thing I have to write. Don't expect regular updates on this but there could be one if I don't have something else ready soon.
Excuses: End of semester kicked my ass. Recitals snuck up on me, and I record/edit/upload them, that was like 8 hour days on top of my regular teaching job. We're two weeks into workterm, I already am in 4 [of 2 required] ensembles. I teach two evenings a week, I am co-leading 2 ensembles and leading a third (2 of these ensembles are 13 and 18 people bands), I have had 4 gigs, another on Sunday and one of my ensembles leaves for Cuba on Wednesday.
I've got two teachers basically gluing my mental health together while a third alternates between antagonizing and praising me. I have other students acting like I'm a teacher and responsible for the plans happening while I'm out of the country while the teacher who IS RESPONSIBLE and I stand confused and stressed out in a corner.
Cuba is not a vacation it's early morning full day rehearsals, or early morning rehearsals and afternoon gigs, I might get one evening on the beach with the band that I love the most (the one I am the student lead of) I thankfully will have Alumni I love with me because hints have been fuckin dropped about responsibilities I have not asked for.
Oh and last week my only day off was on the insistence of my teacher and I coughed until I bruised ribs.
In conclusion I am so tired and I really love these three fics they'll get updates my brain just fully shuts off as soon as I finish with school things. Like I have 4+ banner cards I haven't even done the stories for I am so tired.
#aj does music school#AJ writes LADS#life update speed run#I don't like the heat#I'm not excited for this trip[#but like#international performer on my resume?

Fandom Trumps Hate 2023
I'm participating in Fandom Trumps Hate (@fandomtrumpshate) this year, and like I should probably promote it so y'all are getting a too wordy post on the topic and I apologise for that.
What is FTH?
FTH is a cross-fandom charity auction that has been running since 2016, focused on supporting small-scale non-profits on a series of progressive issues in the US. Why the US? Because the auction began as a direct response to the results of the 2016 elections there. This year's supported organisations cover a variety of issues.
How does it work?
This is not a commission. The FTH tumblr goes into this more in-depth, but in essence: creators such as myself decide which organisations they would like to support, and bidders bid the amount they are willing to donate. The highest bidder at closing donates to one of the chosen causes, then receives a thank you gift for their donation, tailored to their preferences.
Important dates and details?
Auctions are currently open for browsing! This will give you an opportunity to see what fanworks are on offer before bidding opens. The easiest way to do this is by browsing the tagsets for fandoms that interest you.
Bidding opens March 1st (08:00 EST) and closes March 5th (20:00 EST). Proof of donations are due March 12th.
Why are you doing this?
Because I can.
Nah, participating in a fandom auction is one of those things I've said I'd like to do once and never actually managed, and I got sweet talked into it this year.
What are you offering?
Ohhh, this is the fun question, isn't it? I've officially offered a story of up to 5K words in one of three fandoms, but if you are interested in a fandom I've not offered but previously written for that may be negotiable. As for length, I have found that fics will be precisely as long as they want to be--I'd much rather say up to 5K and write 10K than say 5-10K and write 3K.
Examples of my work Game of Thrones and Wheel of Time fic can be found here and my Miss Fisher fic here, but in general my work leans towards character-driven and bittersweet fics, competence kink, and the mortifying ordeal of being known. (Are the cool kids still saying that? Probably not.) My smut leans into soft horny even when kinky, which tends to be either very much someone's tastes or very much not. I love writing so many classic fic tropes and kinks, so if there's something you're interested in but are uncertain, feel free to ask!
Unwilling to address: Scat/watersports, ageplay including usage of daddy/mommy/girl, underage/high school AUs or college AUs where focus is on the college element, casual misogyny or sexual violence (narratively relevant is fine), dubious/non-consensual sex that is not treated as such, revenge porn (literal revenge porn or the "Punish character X" type), power dynamics where there’s a potential abuse of power, humiliation.
Now, onto the fandom specific details:
Game of Thrones: Jaime/Brienne, other pairings with discussion. Prefer to avoid Brienne with major body image issues, ESPECIALLY when phrased about feeling like a “real woman”--insecurities, yes, but not as the driving narrative force. Not interested in Cersei-bashing fics--she's awful, I'm happy to make her awful, but I don't want to make her one dimensional. While happy to incorporate elements of the book canon, this story would be primarily driven by show canon dynamics/characterisation. Happy to write in a canon or AU setting. Into this fandom, but what I offer isn't quite to your taste? Check out other asoiaf/GoT creators here.
Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries: TV/film canon. Any pairing, canon or fanon. I primarily write Phrack, but as my ao3 will tell you there's very little I've not dipped my toe into. If you are interested in Dot/Hugh fluff, I'll do it but it's not a strength. I strongly prefer canon set stories for this fandom. Into this fandom, but what I offer isn't quite to your taste? Check out other MFMM creators here.
Wheel of Time: I am offering anything centred around Lan, Nynaeve, and/or Moiraine, whether it's platonic or romantic or pre-romantic. I have read the books many times, but this offer is for TV canon only due to other commitments. If, however, you want something like a missing scene from the first few books, that can be discussed during the bidding process. I strongly prefer canon set stories for this fandom. Into this fandom, but what I offer isn't quite to your taste? Check out other WoT creators here.
Anything else?
Not really! My offerings page can be found here. When auctions go live on March 1st you will be able to access the bidding page from there. If you have any questions, whether that's about how this works or what I am/am not willing to write or something else entirely, my Tumblr inbox is always open and I'm happy to answer publicly or privately. If you prefer the answer be private, please ensure you have not selected to make it anonymous and mention it in the message!
#Fandom trumps hate 2023#miss fisher's murder mysteries#wheel of time#game of thrones#phryne x jack#jaime x brienne#lan x nynaeve#man this needs like five billion more tags but they'd also be pointless so...

I'm relatively new to fandom and destiel, and I had a question you might know the answer to. I noticed there are these organized fanfic (and fanart?) projects. The ones I've seen are Pinefest and Big Bang. What are these exactly? Do you just sign up and write a fic, and it gets featured as part of this project? Are there any others besides those two? And is there a way to see a list of all the past fics that have been written as part of these projects? So sorry to bother you, I'm just trying to figure it all out. Thank you for any help
Hi there, and welcome to the fandom! We’ve got barrels of fests and challenges, and I’m happy to give a little explainer of a few of the different varieties and how they work. :)
I’m putting this under a cut, because even though I assembled it mostly off the top of my head while being distracted by like nine other things, and it’s in no way a complete and detailed accounting of all challenges and fests in the fandom, it still got kinda long... I know I have other posts on this subject in my writing challenges tag, where I reblog challenge info.
The biggest challenge in the fandom (based on participation, history, etc.) is probably the Dean/Cas Big Bang (known as the dcbb). This is the sort of challenge where writers and authors sign up (traditionally in April for this challenge), authors write stories with a minimum wordcount (in the case of dcbb, it’s 20k words), and then artists “claim” stories to make art for (usually in August for this challenge). Then the resulting author/artist teams work together and post on their scheduled posting date (for dcbb, usually October/November).
There are a number of other challenges that roughly use this model, including the Pinefest (which, disclosure, I’m the assistant mod for, so if you have questions specifically about pinefest, I’m happy to help!). Some others have a more defined theme, such as the horror big bang, etc., or have different minimum wordcounts (some as low as 3k!). But they generally run along a similar format with a definitive time frame with deadlines and participation requirements.
There’s also Reverse Bangs, the biggest of which is probably the sibling challenge to the dcbb, the dcrb. For those, artists make art and it’s the writers who claim pieces to write about, but the rest of the process runs on a similar premise with deadlines for each step of the process that all participants have to meet.
Challenges often have discord servers where participants can chat, work through story ideas, find beta readers, ask questions, etc. It’s a great way to find a community within the fandom!
Speaking of discord servers, there’s a number of destiel creative community groups there, such as the @profoundnet and @writersofdestiel. These are not only great places to find a community of writers/artists, but they both also run various challenges and fests that you can learn about there, in addition to having channels dedicated to the announcement of writing/art challenges. They’re great places to learn more about how all of these work, and to find out which challenges are currently open.
So outside of the bigger challenge format I described above, there’s also fests such as prompt fests where someone will post a prompt list and creators can make things based on those prompts. They usually have looser rules than organized challenges, for authors or artists to participate in as they feel moved to. There’s also bingo challenges where participants will be issued a bingo-style card with various tropes and prompts with the goal of completing a “bingo” by using those elements in a work.
And then there’s some monthly themed challenges with their own sets of rules. Again, the easiest way to find these is just to look out for them either on tumblr or via one of the discord servers i mentioned above. I try to reblog relevant ones when I see them to let folks know they exist.
There’s a few other seasonal challenges, such as @winchester-reload’s suptober/inktober art prompt list, various advent calendar/holiday themed exchanges in december, typically a “sweetheart” exchange in February, etc.
But in general, if you see a challenge you think you might be interested in, the best thing to do is check it out directly. They all have different rules and requirements for participation, but in general most of the larger organized challenges have set deadlines for registration and participation. :)
(and for some reason tumblr isn’t letting me add tags in the inbox today, which is super annoying lol)
#writing challenges#i looked through the tag because i'm sure i had a more detailed post about all of this from a few years back#but i couldn't find it >.>#seriously tho all challenges and fests have different participation rules and your best bet is looking into them individually#and reading the rules and requirements or faq for each one to see if it meets your needs as a creator :)
