The best thing you can do is limit your time on twitter, add a daily limit on the app if you need to. And even more importantly block and mute liberally. I literally just block or mute anyone who I see saying negative or stupid stuff, and even people with usernames you can tell are going to be shitty in the future even if they aren't saying something shitty now. Also people who are constantly arguing with antis, they are just bringing attention to the stupid stuff that is said that you probably wouldn't even see normally. My twt is fairly peaceful now and I rarely see neg unless I go looking for it

Twt literally pays people for engagement, so there a literal financial incentive to be shitty to drive engagement. This targeted hate isn't something that is limited to dteam fans, it happens everywhere in every fandom. Protecting your own sanity is key, and the easiest way to do that if you can't just uninstall is to block/mute anything you see that doesn't bring you happiness ❤️

my days of using twitter are basically over bc since march i avoided it like the plague (then a few weeks ago i sort of came back but just to rt from ccs i like, i dont look at my tl anymore). but when i was there i ran so many blocklists that it almost reached 200k 💀 it was getting exhausting bc i'd have to manually search for horrible tweets/people to run blocklists on and looking at all of that over and over just to block ppl was too much.

and yeah when i was there i also hated when ppl would argue with antis bc they'd then blast their shitty posts for dream fans to see as well as rile up other reactionary fans to join in the argument too and it'd turn into one big mess sigh... its essentially not an issue here, but sometimes there ppl would also just post screenshots of stupid posts to be like 'omg look at this how gross' which would still blast it to everyone who likely didn't want to see that shit. i only see that here very very rarely, but when i do it just makes me sad :/

that last point u made about it not being unique to our fandom honestly helps bc when i was first new (both to this fandom and twitter bc until i joined the dteam fandom aka my first ever one i never used social media), i genuinely thought no one else had to deal with stuff like this. even nowadays i feel like that sometimes. but then i slowly learned that this kind of reactionary behaviour is just a wider, chronically-online internet issue as a whole (both with fans and antis, but in our case it's far more common with antis lol bc they are purposefully and obsessively looking for things they hate to gain interactions from it. bc unfortunately negative things get more attention and therefore interactions.)

Do you think you’ll be leaving the fandom for good? 🥺 Sometimes I feel that way because it gets really tiring. All of the fights on stan twitter get pointless and repetitive for me that it ruins being a fan, kind of? It seems to be getting worse, not better 😞

I genuinely have no idea tbh with you,when I joined back when I was 14 I thought by now I'd have other more adult~ish interests like idk golf and real state hahaha, truth is the joy 1d and Harry and Larry brought me is something that I haven't managed to feel with any other artists or media , so I'm still a little trapped here plus i love love loveeee the community we've created on Twitter, even if sometimes I get annoyed, I've met so many cool friends thanks to this Fandom and the easiest way to keep in contact with them is to somehow still be in the fandom? At least a little? So I guess for now the answer is no? I still have a ton of fics I wanna write, and I still enjoy a good dirty joke on Twitter.

Whether you leave the fandom or not is up to you and what you feel is best, I think if you can, I'd advice you to try to find other interests (don't be like me lmao) other artists, or movies, shows, books etc so that you stop being so attached to this very toxic fandom, I also think spending too much time on social media can harm ur mental wellness a lot so go out as much as you can, find other hobbies that don't involve you being online, spend time with people face to face, all of this with precautions and yadda yadda cause covid is still out there etc.

And lastly, try to make Twitter a Safe space for you, this is easier said than done cause I still don't manage to do this, but this means, block the ppl you need to block, the words you need to mute, if you hate seeing always the same fights break out, mute the words that are in those tweets like for example I have "straight" muted cause idgaf about dumb arguments about louis or Harry being straight etc. You're never muting too many words, make it so that you only see content you wanna see.

Again, this is easier said than done cause I'm literally avoiding Twitter rn cause ik my moots will mention you know what pics and that'll make me nauseous so, it's a work in progress
